Can you imagine pitching a show like Solid Gold today? "You want how many dancers? And choreographers? And costume designers? To dance to one hit wonders?"
"Gold" was always my favorite hit by Spandau Ballet, though I wouldn't have considered it a "lost hit." I had forgotten all about "Stranger in my House" and "I Only Wanna be with You." Thanks for the memories!
If a song couldn't get into the Billboard Hot 100 charts , like some of the songs in this video, it means that it had very limited sales and airplay. It's hard to be forgotten when no one was aware you ever exsisted!
Awesome list, these are actual lost n forgotten hits... Hate it wen they title "forgotten or lost" hits and they're all the stupid ones we already hear all the time on the radio..! Awesome list!
Ever notice blind people sing about sight a lot? This song, Terry Gibbs' "Somebody's knockin'" (...and would you look at him) , Jeff Healey, "Angel Eyes" , etc.....
Anne Murray was played to death in Canada as we have the CANCON rule and have to have a certain percentage of songs on the radio be Canadian and back in the 70's/early 80's we didn't have much in the way of artists or bands. Bryan Adams was over played.
mspixiedust100 Still do, but we have tons more artists that even get American play like, The Weeknd, Drake, Alessia Cara, Carly-Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber (*shutter*), Fiest, Nelly Furtado, Shawn Mendes... So it's easier to find a song to play every 4th or 5th in rotation and not get burned out. Barenaked Ladies is big enough to be the singers/writers of the theme song for The Big Bang Theory and Chantal Kreviazuk's cover became theme for Providence show and What I Like About You's theme was sung by Lillix.
The rule is to give Canadian artists a fighting chance to make a living in a mostly American and British market. It's why we had Much Music in response to MTV. We do have MTV now.
Ok, I was in high school early 80s - and by the time I get to vol5, there is nothing I remember. Many on one and 2, a few on three, a couple on 4. There's a reason why some of these are "lost." :)
We are from the same era and I was thinking the same thing. Many of these I don't remember at all, others are familiar but were not considered hits. Brutal watching some of the backup dancers in these, it's so bad. Fun to watch anyway.
(John 14:6 > Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.) + Jesus is the ONLY way! + (1 Corinthians 15:51-57 > [51]Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed, [52]-In a moment in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. [53]-For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. [54]-So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. [55]-O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? [56]-The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [57]-But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.) + (John 3:3 > Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.) + (John 3:5 > Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.) + These are non-negotiable statements by the Lord Jesus Christ, you have to believe on Him or there will be no "eternal life" for you! + (Romans 10:9-10 > [9]-That if thou shalt confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him form the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10]-For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.) + Romans 10:13 > For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.) + Have you been born again? Have you assurance of eternal life? Because the alternative is eternal damnation which is the part that the false preachers, teachers, and prophets always leave out, sin unto death! + Trust God for your salvation, Jesus is God. Amen! + All glory and honour and power and praise be to the Lord our God, Jesus Christ. Amen!
It was A time of relatives making it big, and style cross overs. Sylvia And Crystal Gayle are sisters, And So are Juice(What A name! Juice. I guess it's still better than Fig.) Newton and Olivia. the major style crosser's was Ronnie Millsap who had the same song hitting on pop charts and country charts at the same time, with songs like Smokey mountain rain. Eddie Rabbit was on both charts with "I love A rainy night" and Step by step".
The fact that it hit #5 but hasn’t been played on the radio in New York City in 35 years shows you how quickly country music fell out of favor when new wave arrived. Also songs like that were never played again after music disappeared from AM radio.
I don't remember the last time I've heard the song on the radio, but that was one of those country crossovers that I always loved. I think Brandon has done a great job with this series - for someone who's been obsessed with music since the late '70s, there were still songs I had actually forgotten. But there are songs like Step by Step that - while they might not get airplay now - were never forgotten by those who remember when it played all the time. :-) Although I think it's cool that he includes them for people who weren't around at that time and would never hear them otherwise.
Don't Forget to Dance by The Kinks is a beautiful song. The 80's was my era but to be honest it was pretty crappy musically. Not saying there were no good songs but not very many.
Robin Nelson well, there were a lot of good songs written in this pop style of the early 80s. The market was just oversaturated so a lot of it was subpar
*Stranger in my house has always made me think of a stalker who was hired by the wife to take out her husband, so her lover and her can be together. Love the song, but it has its dark side.*
Rest in peace Marty Balin. Thank you for your music, your poetry, the memories.
Can you imagine pitching a show like Solid Gold today? "You want how many dancers? And choreographers? And costume designers? To dance to one hit wonders?"
I'd forgotten about the song that Eddie Rabbit released, Step By Step. Great tune with a great message.
"Gold" was always my favorite hit by Spandau Ballet, though I wouldn't have considered it a "lost hit." I had forgotten all about "Stranger in my House" and "I Only Wanna be with You." Thanks for the memories!
Yes
Thank you for posting Juice Newton's "Heart of the Night!" What a beautiful song, and it never got its props.
Eye To Eye. Damn good tune.
Not sure about the "hit" of these selections, but boy are these videos awesome. Nice flashback without recycling all the well-known hits.
Crystal Gayle and her hair. My mom was in awe.
Love love love Eddie Rabbit!
Is he dead??
@@David_Theisen yes
wish I could go back to those years as a kid.they were so fun
I'm digging that "Bicoastal" song.
And a song about the Santa Monica Freeway!! Wow, what a time to be alive then.
The mental disconnect of seeing Robert John and trying to understand that that voice is coming from him is giving me seizures.
8:00 Solid Gold. Theres a TV show that we need to come back
hahaha, The First Song Gold,GTA Vice City WAVE Radio Station,Great Collections,Thank You Very Much
Always loved "Nice Girls" by Eye to Eye!! Too bad it only reached #37 on the charts!!
I was delighted to hear "Gold" resurface a few years ago when it was played during a reception for Michael Phelps.
If a song couldn't get into the Billboard Hot 100 charts , like some of the songs in this video, it means that it had very limited sales and airplay. It's hard to be forgotten when no one was aware you ever exsisted!
Great stuff!
i love heart of the night by juice netwon
I have a great Back 2 Back cd with Kim Carnes & Juice Newton!!
I had her albums / records when I was a kid, she once one of my fav singers when I was a little kid.
dianne gomez t
@@robinnelson1248 I miss Juice Newton myself....
God what memories, how quickly time flys
Anyone remember "You Don't Want Me Anymore" by Steel Breeze?
"You Don't Want me Anymore"? Yes, it's AWESOME!
I do. It was a hit in 1982.
switch2kryptonite It was the first song I ever bought on iTunes! I was amazed that they had it and immediately knew I could find almost anything.
switch2kryptonite I remember it. Remember the silly video they did?
Awesome list, these are actual lost n forgotten hits... Hate it wen they title "forgotten or lost" hits and they're all the stupid ones we already hear all the time on the radio..! Awesome list!
Juice Newton-Heart Of The Night should have been a bigger hit.
I think these songs are in my BMG/Columbia House tape collection.
heart of the night is a great great song!!
Some of these songs I've never seen on video
1:59-Crystal Gayle, with long hair down to her ankles
Quarterflash kicked butt. As for the rest, the Kinks was okay. Not sure I recall any of the others.
LOVED THE KINKS 'DON'T FORGET TO DANCE" AND "HEY THERE LONELY GIRL " BY ROBERT JOHN
The Kinks song was/is beautiful. It's weird how so many people don't recall it at all.
Seems like the Kinks music wasn't that good in the 80s!! Come Dancin' was maybe the only really good song
"Stranger in my House", haven't heard this tune for quite sometime. It is a underrated and lost classic hit.
Relatives? Juice and Olivia aren't related. Crystal's sister IS a famous singer - but it's Loretta Lynn, not Sylvia
You're welcome :) The audio version is on youtube and it sounds good.
So many songs shown on the Solid Gold show..... that show was a jinx, hahahahaha.
Stranger In My House is a classic. A more appropriate lost hit for Ronnie Milsap would be She Loves My Car
Why does Ronnie Milsap have a car?
I think There Ain't No Getting Over Me is perfect piece of songwriting.
“There’s a stranger in my house, somebody here that I can’t see.”
Of course you can’t see her Ronnie, YOU’RE BLIND!!!!!!
LOL, Ron!!!
Ever notice blind people sing about sight a lot? This song, Terry Gibbs' "Somebody's knockin'" (...and would you look at him) , Jeff Healey, "Angel Eyes" , etc.....
@iacubs I think it's "Say What?" by Jesse Winchester.
Crystal...SEXY
Peter...gay SEXY
Sylvia...SEXY
Nicollet..SEXY
i havent heard of any of these songs.
I knew Eddie Rabbit and Ronnie Milsap's songs, and that's about it!
Bi-coastal is one of the most double standard songs ever
Shelly West. What a voice.
From this list, Gold by Spandau Ballet, Nice girls by Eye to Eye, Robert John hey there lonely girl
Given that lounge lizard outfit Marty Balin's wearing, it'a hard to believe he was ever in Jefferson Airplane.
Sound has been muted :(
Back 9n now!

You guys have a rule about what music was allowed to be played?
mspixiedust100
Still do, but we have tons more artists that even get American play like, The Weeknd, Drake, Alessia Cara, Carly-Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber (*shutter*), Fiest, Nelly Furtado, Shawn Mendes... What about Rush??
Crystal Gayle- my first celebrity crush.
Now all I can think of are the terrifying logistics of trying to have sex with someone with hair that long.
actually much of this list is the crossover country, classic period ( 79' to 82')....the last two songs were especially good
Ok, I was in high school early 80s - and by the time I get to vol5, there is nothing I remember. Many on one and 2, a few on three, a couple on 4. There's a reason why some of these are "lost." :)

Don't Forget to Dance by the Kinks? Really?
Oh thank god I'm not the only one that doesn't remember any of these "hits"
+G Nelson I think these are from the 70's.
And now you know why they were lost.
Beat me to it.
Davey Givens - Yeah, these seem to be follow up songs to bigger hits or just also-rans.
(John 14:6 > Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.)

I almost threw up three times. Thank God that's over.
These weren't hits... They were just songs out in the early 80's
How about billboard 1986?
anne murrays song was #44 in the us, the #97 was the uk charting
These are lost songs however Gold is very known.
Also "Invisible" by Alison Moyet.
Deborah Berg looks like Julia Louis-Dreyfus in that video. Nice (not so) Compact!
gold!!!!???? Are you kidding me?
Are you sure these aren't late 70's?
Does this aspect ratio make me look fat?
Step By Step was a hit in 1981, not 1982.
Valerie didn't hit any chart in the US.
It was A time of relatives making it big, and style cross overs. Sylvia And Crystal Gayle are sisters, And So are Juice(What A name! Juice. What? I guess that means Reba McEntire is Joey McIntyre's mom.
A couple of those are forgotten for a reason. Ray Davies is brilliant, but Don't Forget to Dance was weak.
Step by Step is not a lost hit and still a great song :)
Agreed!

Should have been the TV show's theme
Marty balin really bad
phildirt3 Agreed! For such a talented guy with a successful rock career he looks and sounds like a lounge singer with a ruffled shirt.
And now he’s gone a week later. Now I feel bad.
never heard #2
step by step is not a lost hit
Boy there are some real dogpiles in this list.
I'm confused about that Lonely Girl song; is that dude with the beard really singing that high? That sounds like a girl singing
kicksex it's falsetto singing. Robert John sang all of his songs in that style.
123xconnieb yeah like the bee gees
lol Country stars breaking into pop music lol
Yeah it's not possible!!!
Wow, some of these songs are AWFUL. I grew up in the 80s and forgot how awful they were. That bicoastal song was hilariously awful.
how did those 2 lame second and third songs become top 40 hits wow
Don't Forget to Dance by The Kinks is a beautiful song. The 80's was my era but to be honest it was pretty crappy musically. Not saying there were no good songs but not very many.
Tenenkrommende drab.
I wouldnt exactly call these hits
50s 60s 70s...best decades for music some 80s was good ..music REALLY SUCKED from the 90s and beyond...
Most of these songs really are boring. they sound like the Lite/Soft/Adult Rock radio stations that I hated when my parents turned on.
Robin Nelson well, there were a lot of good songs written in this pop style of the early 80s. The market was just oversaturated so a lot of it was subpar
The worst thing about the 80s was the music.
None of these songs were hits.
most of these song were never hits not in st.louis we dont play shit
*Stranger in my house has always made me think of a stalker who was hired by the wife to take out her husband, so her lover and her can be together. Love the song, but it has its dark side.*
