Ezzard Charles - Was an American professional boxer and former World Heavyweight Champion. Charles defeated numerous Hall of Fame fighters in three different weight classes. He retired with a record of 95 wins, 25 losses and 1 draw. Charles won the vacant National Boxing Association Heavyweight title when he outpointed Jersey Joe Walcott over 15 rounds on June 22, 1949. The following year, he outpointed his idol and former World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis to become the recognized Lineal Champion. Successful defenses against Walcott, Lee Oma and Joey Maxim would follow.

Ezzard Charles would have been even greater had his health not deteriorated from late 54/early ‘55, not long after his KO defeat by Marciano. He was already suffering from clear symptoms of ALS, a motor neurone disease that was to cripple him horribly and kill him 20 years later. It’s surprising how the state athletics commission did not know this and allowed him to box on for 10 more fights over 5 more years, they should have known as much as he did that his health was in serious decline.

Ezzard Charles fought about 34 fights at light heavyweight (see below). At light heavyweight, Charles beat the two greatest light heavyweight champions of his era. He beat Archie Moore every time he fought him (3 times) and Joey Maxim every time he fought him (two times). At light heavyweight, Charles also beat another hall of famer Jimmy Bivins twice. Charles got revenge by knocking out two great boxers who beat him earlier, Lloyd Marshall and Jimy Bivins. Charles was beaten at light heavyweight by a controversial split decision to the very experienced Elmer Ray and then Charles knocked Ray out a year later at light heavyweight the next time they fought each other.
Charles was never given a chance at the light heavyweight title and he moved up to heavyweight to get larger pay days. At light heavyweight, Charles knocked out all 3 boxers (as mentioned, two of them hall of famers) who had beaten him earlier in his career. Nobody ever got the better of Ezzard Charles at light heavyweight including the 2 best lt heavyweight champs during the years when Ezzard boxed, legendary, Archie Moore and the dude who beat Sugar Ray Robinson, Joey Maxim.
Charles is P4P one of the best ever. The greatest light heavyweight that ever lived, absolutely, Ezzard Charles.

The real Goat. 3 division champion when there were only 8 weight classes. Never allowed to fight for the middleweight title which was his most natural weight.
His name belongs in any discussion as to who is the greatest. Boxrec has him P4P in all weight classes based on their points system, while Ali is at 15.
I don't think anyone fought and beat more all time greats than Ezzard Charles.
