Bennie Briscoe - Was the quintessential Philadelphia boxer. "Bad" Bennie fought from 1962 to 1982, and retired with a career record of 66 wins (53 by KO) 24 losses and 5 draws. Briscoe was a top-rated Middleweight contender during the 1970s, unsuccessfully challenging for the World Title on three different occasions. This defensive movement, bobbing and weaving, etc.. was a Philly special back in the day. Back then, some news guy said if you saw two Philly drunks fighting in an alley behind the bar, they were bobbing and weaving.
Frazier and Briscoe
Dont forget dwight muhammad qawi, he was a beast with that head movement
@@raz_nick4048 Yeah, I saw Qawi ( then Braxton) fight Michael Spinks in AC, and watched him train at Joe Frazier's gym a couple times in North Philly..He was a tough guy, and used the Frazier bob and weave.
He actually did some work with Frazier in Philly
😭😭😭😭
One of the best boxers to never win a world title (in my opinion.) Even though he was known for his toughness and relentless style, Briscoe was adept at slipping punches... If only he could have countered more after the slips he'd have been an even greater fighter.
Ive seen a couple articles comparing him to mark hunt, but i was too lazy to watch all his footage, so thanks again hanza, finally a aggresive low guard philly shell.
Hoora it came. Thanks hanza
Also trained by two legends, George Benton and the legendary, Yank Duhram..
That was his problem right there
haNZAgod no doubt about it’
He was a hard man..he hit hard and could take whatever you could dish out. One of the greatest contenders in history.
He had Monzon literally out on his feet , which is saying something .
It is an absolute nonsense
@@combatesdeboxeo that’s not nonsense 😅; I literally watched the fight. Monzon was indeed troubled.
I remember Brisco and Hagler being called "Battle of the Baldies".
No way loll
@@dma1176 It's at jeff jackson youtube channel
You are correct
& Hagler was the boxer in that fight
Oh sh*t !. I almost forgot about him. Eventhough his record didn't show it. He was one of the few fighters that when he fought,, you got your money's worth. One such fight was with Marvin Hagler. Dubbed: " Battle of da Baldies". It's recognizable he utilizes the " Philly Shell". Same as Joe Frazier .
I think you meant a cross arm guard..
@@crazykocounters4741this is the real philly shell, the shoulder roll/crab stuff mayweather does only got referred like that because of the fight night games. The crab was used by Jim Jeffries too, shoulder roll aint really a particular style but it was used a lot by fighters in the pre 50s
Fwiw- I sparred with him a couple times st regular fellows under George James. He wasn’t allowed to punch back.. sometimes he’d forget. Trained in same gym for 3 years. Gentle man and role model in and out of the ring for me
"sometimes he'd forgot" did he hit back?
He was unlucky not to have been a world champion. These days with the four major belts on offer I couldn't imagine him not winning one.
No way, George's son Vernon was my boxing coach. Had a lot of stories about briscoe and jeff chandler
That's the Philly style, you learn that from the gym wars
legend from the tough mean 70's Philly circuit!!
It's beautiful to watch, a master of the art of Boxing!
R.I.P Bennie Briscoe
He style looks just like Joe Frazier's. He fought great fighters like Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler in their prime, great video.
Philly fighters
And stood his ground against those two monsters of boxing. Enough said!
Fought Monzon to a draw.
@@DerricktheWhite Not really. He had a great fight against Monzon; he held in there, but lost on unanimous decision.
@@edwardmurdoch5070 Mechanical is talking about Bennie's first fight against Monzon, the one that happened in Argetina which was declared a draw. A lot of people assume that Briscoe won that fight, since generally when a hometown fighter is given a draw it points toward hometown cooking in the judging department.
When you fought Bennie Briscoe even if you won he took a lot out of you
such a magical style
Baaaaaaaad Bennie Briscoe. A great contender. Tough as nails, and could box and punch. In another era he might have well been the champ, or at least a title holder.
Tough, skilled and tough again, Briscoe was a MW nightmare in his day. That said he was never busy enough against the best of his era. A joy to watch him slip and slide around the incoming in this video.
Great work as always mate.
🥊💯Badaaaaaaad Mr. Bennie Briscoe!!! One of the Great Philadelphia Middleweight fighters of all times. Rest in Power Mr. Briscoe💯🖤✊🏿🖤
Had the pleasure of seeing him fight. My dad use to take us to the fights as kids.
Nice dad.
Thank you, I miss him everyday. He was a huge fight fan.
Supreme Dad
If Benny Briscoe would of went to Catskill with Cus! I could only imagine a world title!
quality and quantity as usual thanks for all the work you put in HANZAGOD all day !!!
Without Monzon and Valdez, he would've ruled the division in the 70's. Perhaps the ageing Griffith who gave Prime Monzon his most toughest fight would have threaten Briscoe chance of achieving the undisputed crown. Problem with Briscoe is he doesn't throw punches enough after evading shots
I enjoy watch these classic!!! Thank you.
This is truly a gem highlight ☺️ watching it on the regular
Simply masterful, a pleasure to watch.
Great video and track 👌 thank you for it!
Thank you 🙂
This is amazing man
And to think that this guy almost got rid of monson.
One of Philly's greatest!
Thank u for this ;)
Great video.... love the music ... thanking you :)
Man I love the bob and wave style rip bad man bresscoe❤️❤️
Great head movement and defense. Was a top contender for years, but, for whatever reason never won a title. Still among the best mw's ever. Had 53 ko's in 66 wins. A bad dude.
One among my heroes ❤️❤️❤️
I've never heard of this guy I like learning new things
Thank just discover another legend
Legend 👍
Excelente Bennie ,era de hierro y con muy buenos movimientos los hacía errar mucho a sus rivales
I love soundtrack what you choose on his moves.
Baaaad briscoe one of my favs shame he dont get his reconginition that he deserves
Wow nice... good technique, good angles.
Rip to bennie he was a great fighter of that weight class
Used the good ol cross guard here and there too.
One of the best things in boxing
Please do a video of his best knockouts
good music should always be played and honored music list to ur videos
Was an ultimate Philly boxer.
He got pretty nice high guard defence too
the only man who made marvin hagler get on his bike and circle
Great video. He reminds me of a Joe Frazier or heavyweight james toney? Bending at the hip is exhausting and very unorthodox not to mention dangerous when facing a boxer who throws accurate uppercuts. Nevertheless some guys make it work nicely.
J.E M its not exhausting what you on about?
Well it’s philly style 101, Joe just was uncharacteristically aggressive
thats why he uses the cross guard to block uppercuts and punches alike.
Master of disaster, one of the best fighters never to become a champion. Love the music.🧠🤯
Kool channel bro
Benefits of using a squared stance, allows for greater range of upper-body movement.
he would chew up any middleweight today including ggg
Born in MY STATE AND CITY!!
AUGUSTA STAND THE FUCK UP!!!
A real tough guy, the only one who kept Hagler back the entire match
El mas duro rival de monzon y griffith uno de mis favoritos
Briscoe was like a smaller version of Joe Frazier, but without the emphasis on the left hook.
перчатки одно название) красавцы!)
Briscoe may well have been the only fighter who ever made Hagler back up. If that's true that's saying something.
Yeahhh Tyson watched a lot of Brisco
No Joke
When I die I’m going to find Bennie Briscoe and have a cup of tea with him.
The quintessential philly fighter
got any vids on Gil Turner or Ralph Jones?
I've got a highlight of Turner that will be uploaded within the next week or so. Nothing on Jones.
haNZAgod nice thanks man
Thumbnail made him look like he's from the underworld lol
52 blocks tecnique
Song?
" The Bad Bennie "
Rodrigo Valdez should be your next highlight video.
+haNZAgod love your channel brother. can you please tell me the song name for this video and the Kingpech video. thanks
+Sean O'keeffe *kingpetch. who is your favorite fighter brother?
Boogie Belgique - Need Somebody. The Kingpetch song is: Doctor FLAKE - Not This Time
My favorite fighter of all time is Sonny Liston. I have many others I enjoy watching though like Wilfredo Gomez and Yuri Arbachakov.
+haNZAgod really appreciate that brother. Liston is my all time favorite also. There are Sooooooo many I study and admire for different reasons though.
Philadelphia Style
Hey man what is the name of this song?
Boogie Belgique - Need Somebody
@@hanzagod
What of the one you played for the Frazier video
I love that one
Can't remember bud, made that video a long time ago
@@hanzagod
😣
@@hanzagod Where do you get your music?Compile a disc please!Great sounds!
He looks scary in the thumbnail.
That thumbnail is Jersey Joe Walcott, wrong dude
Looks like you need to look again bud it's Bennie Briscoe. Don't correct something if you don't know what you're talking about.
regis box just like him
He's the living testimony to Dwight Muhammad's success
Elaborate y u say tht
Kind of looks like bernard Hopkins In that thumbnail.
I thought it was bhop for a second
He fought monzon and hagler?
Yes
Reminds me of Joe Frazier
Just the style i like , looks effortless even a fat man could do it with ease
Joe Frazier 🤔
Is this how Joe frazier learned to bob and weave from?
No there were fighters before Briscoe's time that effectively bobbed and weaved, even someone like Jack Dempsey was good at it. Frazier was always an aggressive swarming fighter.
Sure resembles Frazier a lot. Both from Philadelphia. Coincidence?
That's the Philly style. You learn it pretty fast sparring in Philly gyms. You gotta remember that Philladelphia breeds some of the toughest fighters out there. Even sparring over there isn't really sparring... It's fighting.
@@sammyboy2987 I heard it's war in the gyms there and a lot of fighters burn out from the constant challenges.
I wonder if he’s looking at when he ducks like that?
やっぱり昔のボクシング怖い
reminds me of james toney, bennie wearing jewish star also
Song?
