I love that the entirety of the joke here is just that Hader does a really good impression of Daniel Plainview
I'm not really into SNL (not saying it's bad, just not my subjective sense of humor), but I am a fan of Bill Hader and his impressions.
So it totally worked for me.
I thought it was Daniel Day-Lewis at first
There's a Patton Oswalt routine where he does several hilarious Daniel Plainview impressions, including Plainview as a pizza parlor owner, a phone sex operator, and talk-singing "Milkshake."
@@jonsrecordcollection7172 "I'll be the only one taking cooked crust out of an oven." (Sorry, that's probably inaccurate.)
It’s really spot on
Bill Hader's impersonation of Daniel Day Lewis is perfect.
Its actually Daniel Day Lewis impersonating Bill Hader impersonating himself...
Shut up you complete idiot!
Olin Scharm LOL he really is that good i wouldnt be surprised
He's gotta be one of the best impersonators of this generation, along with Kevin Spacey. Hader's Alan Alda is so on point it's creepy.
Solarstar10 the voice is spot on
The way Hader says “I’m an oil man” has me rolling on the floor.
It’s incredibly accurate
He crushed his enemies.
Spot on impression by bill
@@lcollie85 oil is the earths currency and only the strong can suckle at mothers teet, after all.
Wondering if he knows Abraham H. Parnassus
It's literally so close
Bill's impression was so well done down to the facial expressions and his walk, audience didn't deserve that great performance
relax
They never do.
I'm so glad he made it out,he's getting better every time
This skit has more substance than TWBB. And waaay more milkshake.
Yeah this is especially hilarious if you've seen There will be Blood and No Country for Old Men, if so this was amazing.
i have NOT heard SUCH a spot on impression of a voice. EVER.
Hubert Shitmeyer
Lady Gaga as Mona Lisa Vito from My Cousin Vinny. Also Kate McKinnon as Carmela from The Sopranos. (both from SNL skits)
You should hear Steven Crowder's impression of Trump.
His Alan Alda is his best impression IMO
Hader's got that golden throat, man.
@@Stormer_88 it's almost as good as his impression of a straight man
Bill screaming "I ABANDONED MY CHILD!" killed me
Abby Hayes and when he shouted “ I DRINK IT UP “
It was 2 months after it came out in wide release, probably right around the time it was going into dvd. This aired in Feb 2008, the movie came out Christmas 2007 wide release
There were a lot of men screaming about their boys in tv and film in the 2000s.
This and "WAAAAALT! MY BOY!" from Lost.
Okay, maybe just two, but both examples really stand out in my memory.
It’s when he stops screaming and then says “oh. There he is…”. The switch in tone in just so funny.
Literally.
the writers: do you wanna play a silent boy who follows his oil baron father around while saying and doing nothing and watching his old man steal people’s milkshakes
amy, putting her wig on: let’s go
It’s a parody of “their will be blood...”
It's probably the hardest job.
It is a parody of a movie
I didn't really enjoy this sketch but her parody was pretty funny.
fuckin hell i just realised that's poehler lmao
How is no one talking about Amy’s impression of H.W. It’s spot on.
Amy is richer than Bill, so I think her talents are very well recognized.
I think that's literally all people talk about with this.
Oh cuz he doesn't talk!
@@callmeshaggy5166 Wasn't there one scene when (as a child) he and Plainview talked a little bit about what they would pay for some oil-producing land?
Huh? He didn't even do shit
NO!! NO!!!! I ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!! I ABANDONED MY BOY!!!!! I ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!!!!
kizzy salahuddin best part of the whole sketch!
I don't know how he didn't get a standing O for that part alone.
Oh here he is he is right here.
@Shane Green Jesus, Shane. Chill.
😃😃😃😃
What an underrated sketch. Although, it sounds like only 15% of the audience had seen There Will Be Blood
The Anthropologist _Forensic you’re so wrong it hurts. This sketch was made six years after the release of the movie, long after the period of its relevancy. Furthermore, box office sales for There Will Be Blood was just over $76 million. Which is a pretty small sales number and means few people actually saw the movie much less remembered this exact reference from that exact scene. And regardless of how good or bad a sketch is SNL audiences almost always laugh louder than this, the dead silence indicates ignorance not a poor quality sketch. Think before commenting next time
@@carrotcake6572 The sketch aired in 2008, and the milkshake scene was widely viewed (online), even if the movie wasn't.
Shane Rothery even then exposure was small. And viewed widely where? Because it wasn’t on UA-cam
The Anthropologist _Forensic dude you don’t know anything about Josh; he could be special for any number of reasons. Your gross overestimation of your knowledge of Josh undermines your credibility. Stick to the text next time when analyzing a comment, yeesh!
Hell no I ain't gonna call it. That damn coin wasn't flipped.
not only were "no country for old men" and "there will be blood" released the same year, they were filmed pretty close to each other in west texas.
the funniest part about it was No Country For Old Men had to stop filming for a day because of smoke from the There Will Be Blood set
and both were great, and disturbing
Juno was released in 2007 too haha
they have always been sister movies to me xxx
Who is the second milkshake dude playing? I'm stumped
"I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD! I'VE ABANDONED MY BOY! I'VE - Oh, there he is." lmaoooo
by far my favorite sketch, too bad the audience never saw that movie...
This has to be Bill Hader’s idea, he’s so big a cinephile that the audience doesn’t get it 100% haha
@Laroyam I was also thinking the same thing! Considering that for me the funniest part of the skit was, "I HAVE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!! I HAVE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!"
Only someone who really likes that movie would find that funny.
Yea it seems only one woman in the audience watched the movies
I don't get it either and I love all those movies. They literally just used lines out of the movies in a different context and expected it it to be funny....like the joke didn't deserve any nuance and would be funny on its own merit. I'm not a child who laughs at anything just because it has funny faces attached to it. I assume most of the audience isn't either.
Dustin Krause you must be fun in bed lol
This skit did also come out like right when the movie hit theaters so they probably didn’t see it yet
best part was Amy's meek, silent face.. the way she just stood there sheepishly.. cracked me up for some reason :D
And when bill panicked when she got missing and then she sheepishly appears again 🤣
Shit is fucking hilarious
That's basically exactly what his kid did in the movie, so she didn't have a hard job to do.
And she didn't crack up every 45 seconds like Jimmy Fallon did. Seriously. Amy's such a pro.
Her best performance ever.
Bill Hader is a genius. His impression of Daniel Plainview is spot-on just like all his impressions. He can do all the voices and he's a tremendous actor. I can't wait for the new season of Barry.
As soon as he said "I'M AN OIL MAN" in that spot on voice, i was rolling on the floor.
fuck the impression was incredible
Shadi Bellamy the accent thoo
this impression is just fucking flawless...
Grimble Grumble I love it! I DRINK IT UP!
he should've bashed him over the head with a bowling pin after he drank it LOL
and straight after said "DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINNNNAGE!"
Farting Is The Closest Ill Get To Giving A Shit no shit!!! Such potential, unfulfilled.
“There Will Be Blood” is one of my all time favorites! His Daniel Plainview is spot on!
The final line of the film makes me laugh with grateful appreciation. I'm delighted to see Bill Hader likes it too. 💕
@@S.Pociecha the final line was so haunting I’m finished to his own butler like he planned the murder he was finished with Eli finished toying with him finished getting his revenge on when Eli embarrassed him in the church he didn’t need him anymore so he kills him fucking brilliant
This sketch is just foreshadowing for how good of an actor Bill Hader actually turned out to be.
Amy poehler was perfect she didn’t even have to do anything. I like how they literally took the line of one movie and made it funny.
yeah amy poehler is highly underappreciated in this her keeping a straight face is essential, and the make up department did a great job with the wig, just her standing there makes me laugh
Bill even got the jaw movements down. This impersonation is FLAWLESS
SNL’s audience doesn’t understand it. Brilliant stuff by Hader
As a HUGE TWBB fan, I cannot believe I did not know about this skit until 2022. This impression is PERFECTION.
Duuuuude... This impression... is really commendable... This is so flawless.. exquisitely done..... This is really smooth.. Like when I... DRINK.. YOUUUUR.. MILKSHAKE..
This comment is better than the sketch
TheLumpyHeavy I drink it up
This was inspired. Hader's Daniel Day-Lewis was uncanny. And Fred Armisen's Javier Bardem was damn good, too. Terrific.
I love Fred but that Anton Chigurh was pretty bad...
Yeah Hader's impression way outshined Fred's
@@matgougeon3087 like did he even watch the film or did he just see a picture of Anton and guess how he sounded?
@@TheAlps36 My guess is that he probably hasn't seen the film before the sketch. Please keep in mind that the cast members of SNL only have one week to memorize these skits, with rehearsals only beginning a couple days before the show airs on live television. He did the best he could. We all know he's an incredible actor with a wide range of skills and impressions; it just so happens that this is not one of those impressions...
Bill Hader is so talented that he could deliver an Oscar-winning performance if he wanted. His impression of Daniel Plainview is perfect.
Andranik Avetisyan The Academy should have been allowed to vote for Television performances - Bill would have taken home two Oscars. :)
Bill Hader took a metaphorical line in a movie and made it literal. Truly brilliant and absolutely silly at the same time. Love it.
this incredible impression went over the audiences head, clearly. completely dead and unresponsive
sometimes i wonder if the audience is quiet because they're trying to hear the lines. my guess though is no one saw the movies and couldnt zero in on the jokes as easily as ppl would have today thanks to memes giving ppl who have never even heard of the movie a good idea of the most popular lines and gags from it
I don’t get the bitching, just because they aren’t going hysterical nonstop doesn’t mean they are tone deaf. I can count over ten times a good chunk of the audience laughed
It wasn't that funny
Lucy Sometimes the response is due to the stage they’re on. Eric Idle told me that Lorne Michaels loves to have Monty Python members on, and then ruin their sketches by putting them on a certain stage, which most of the audience can’t see.
Well, it’s not that comical. He’s just rifling off lines from the movie. Meh.
Hader is SPOT ON. What an absolute genius.
Hader is amazing....He's arguably the most talented actor to have ever graced SNL for he can do anything to make the scene work and can play anyone...Very gifted individual no doubt about it.
Crowd had absolutely no idea how good this impersonation was.
Wow bill hader is really amazing.
lopfi lottfi he deserves to do drama too
@@constancekreese4921 he's pretty damn good in his show Barry. Give that a watch if you haven't.
Bil hader is the real deal ..
When you can impersonate daniel day lewis in a character of daniel plainview u are good so good.
He’s a hell of an actor. Even though It: Chapter Two was dull his performance as the adult Richie was one of the few redeeming qualities of the film
He sounds exactly like Daniel Plainview. He’s insanely talented.
This is out of fucking control. Such an underrated impression and skit that deserved a much better audience
Bill Hader is a legend.
Jesus, it must be tough having to drive on through a skit that's clearly not working with the crowd. It could've been great had the audience actually seen these movies.
that's why knowing your audience is important. however, at least by putting these skits online, ppl who do get the reference can enjoy it in the coming years
The timbre and cadence of his voice is remarkable, a really good take on Daniel Day Lewis's character. He even got the limp in there.
Amy Poehler doing her best Chris Kattan impression the whole bit.
Lol
The absurdity of it all (and hader's talent) really cracked me up.
Wow, he even limped! Great skit!
This is amazing, Bill's a major movie guy so I imagine this was his sketch. Brilliant Day-Lewis impression, and the nods to No Country for Old Men and Juno (two of the other best movies of 2007) are priceless.
Brilliant! This will always be one of my favorite sketches, primarily because of There Will Be Blood, but also how it combines basically all of the best films that year in such a random, goofy, but successful way
Movies:
1. There will be blood
2. No country for old man
3. Juno
I've never seen any of these movies. I started no country for old men but never finished it.
*men
Actors:
Bill Hader
Amy Pohler
Keenan Thompson
Juno was ass
What juno
no one in the damn audience knew what film this was from ffs.
DOT DOT what film is it?
Ellie fuckin there will be blood!!!!
DOT DOT ooh lol.
I thought the same thing. The impression is brilliant and no-one seemed to care.
The script wasn't great though.
Actually it's there will be blood and No country for old men
Hader doing Daniel Day Lewis as Daniel Plainview is easily one of the best impressions I've ever seen. Holy cow, that was excellent, what a talent, hader is.
This is one of the most hilarious and clever sketch on SNL. Every time I rewatch it I still crack up 🤣
Dunno why but Will Forte really makes this one for me. A truly underappreciated sketch.
ame, miss his presence in this show so much
His impersonation was awful lol
Go get your own milkshake
Erin, have you ever watched the tv show with Will Forte in it...it's called The Last Man On Earth. It was on Fox and after 3 or 4 seasons they canceled it but it was very funny if you like W.F's humor.
Sounds like he sang the intro, too. I agree! He’s got a lot of talent.
I laughed so much harder than the audience when this aired originally, having seen There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. ...It was hysterical.
This skit is majorly underrated. Absolutely brilliant!
Been watching Bill Hader impressions on youtube for YEARS... NEVER have I seen this incredible impression. The voice work is uncanny!
Hader really should have won an Emmy for his work on the show. He has so much range. From Daniel Day Lewis and Greg the alien to Prince Philip and Anthony Peter Colman the puppeteer.
Strangely, Bill had an Emmy from South Park around this time. And later, 2 more for Barry..
Vincent Price
Al pacino
soon as he said "IM AN OIL MAN" i lost it, this is reallly good lmao
That little tic thing bill did with his mouth at 0:57 paired with the absolutely spot-on voice impression and cadence is the reason he’s one of the GOATS
Bill Hader was born for sketches like this. Especially since most had probably not seen these movies he's satirizing.
How in the hell is he so perfect at this impersonation, if I close my eyes I would think the movie was playing
Was thinking the same thing! For a moment I thought he was lip-syncing, but then, that's Bill Hader in the sketch.
I.. DRINK.. YOUR.. MILKSHAKE!! *slurp noise* I DRINK IT UP!!!
The genius of this skit is sublime! The perfect impersonation of Lewi's acting, the writing, incorporating other tragic characters. I don't think that audience was grasping what they were seeing.
Bill being the master impressionist that he is and the fact that he capable of crafting such a perfect impression of Mr. Plainview also speaks to how fully fleshed out and real the character was that Daniel Day-Lewis created.
DRAAAIIINNNNAGE!!!!
Medina Sidonia that should’ve been worked in for sures😂
“Drainage, you BOY.”
This is such a niche sketch but I love it so much!
These milkshake skits are damn funny, but if you take all of the comedy away, Bill Hader's impression of Daniel Plainview's voice is 100% spot on, as well as his mannerisms! Incredibly talented!
Absolute gold.
I miss these guys.
will forte singing the theme song. love it!!
One of the most underrated sketches ever
This is absolutely hysterical!
Bill and Amy were excellent in this!
IMO easily one of the funniest SNL skits. At the time it was so culturally relevant as 2007 was one of the best years for films ever.
omg the impression is great
Madame Reine i
Bill Hader=greatness
I think this is arguably the best impersonation I've ever seen. Flawless.
Working on a project on There Will Be Blood for film class and this was the perfect study break. The impression was so spot-on I thought Daniel Day-Lewis actually made a guest appearance for a sec lmao. Also I have to shout out how Poehler nailed H.W.'s lost child at a museum/"I'm sorry my Dad is a menace I swear I am nothing like him" vibe.
His milkshake brings all the straws to the yard
and damn right its better than yours!
actually there is a song with similar lyrics.. by the name "milkshake"
@@marcallencastro7789 he could teach you but- HE ABANDONED HIS BOY!!!
and damn right.
it's longer than yours.
I'll steal your oil, you can't even charge.
my straw
is longer than yours...
2:19 the best Part JAJAJAJAJA
I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!
The impression is perfect 😄
One of the best movies and impressions ever... I'm so very happy right now.
This is great. Two iconic characters from two iconic "Anti-Western" films.
"You're watching food network, Porn for the fat people" omg I hate myself 😂
The cane he had was the straw the whole time and it was amazing to see, I just don’t know what the hell is going on in life anymore but this is great
Bill Hader is dead on as usual. Perfect impression. Lol
god damn this is actually a 10/10 impression
Holy shit this may be the best impression of anyone I’ve ever heard. That was SPOT ON.
Just watched both these movies for the first time recently and this is hilarious 😂
Me too! This is what introduced me to them
That is by far the best voice impression ive ever heard! If I didnt know it was bill hader ive would have thought it was Daniel Plainview for real 😂😂
2:16 always kills me
Strange idea, but executed perfectly!!
Man, Bill Hader is the greatest, perfect impression. The "I ABANDONED MY CHILD!" part was so f*cking hilarious.
As a country we must protect Bill Hader at all costs threw these times...absolutely fantastic
That HBO show Barry that he's been doing is AMAZING. One of the greatest show's I've ever seen.
Plainview spot on...
Perfect imitation of Daniel Day Lewis. Haders brilliant.
I saw both There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Man in my American Film class in college a year after both films were released.
This entire sketch including the theme song had me in stitches
That's an amazing impression, Mr Hader.
This impression is so spot on it hurts
This is amazing. I have nonidea how I missed this gem of a sketch!
This skit is just a great introduction to a great movie. I just checked it out and it is absolutely phenomenal.
Why are neither of these two the biggest actors in Hollywood? More bill and more fred immediately.
Great impression of Daniel Day Lewis 👍👍👍
Bill Hader is AMAZING as always ❗
Bill Hader is one of the very few comedians who actually does make me LOL
Bill Hader is awesome!! So talented. I also love this movie and Daniel - Day Lewis in all his movies.
