  • Hi all,
    Here's my take on Simplicity 8447: a very cute pair of 1940s reproduction utility overalls. I'm tickled pink with how these came out, and I hope you all enjoy the mockup process!

    This is sooooo helpful! Thank you for making a step by step video, I find reading the instructions so tricky but seeing it visually with your clear instructions is fabulous!! It also looks lovely on you, my fingers are crossed that mine will turn out nearly as good! X

    I think you did great job on mock-up of these cute overalls. You kept saying you’re lazy for not doing finishing, buttonholes etc. but it is a mockup right? Just to run through and get idea of fit. Good for you! I just purchased purchased this pattern, but I’m doing pants. Happy sewing

    I always cut the leg lengths so that it matches what I need for my crazy short inseam. It saves A LOT of material.

    I have the Same problem of a long torso in regular overalls! Very uncomfortable. Have the same trouble with leotards and one piece swimsuits. Hopefully I can figure this pattern out to adjust to my size!

    You have taken a large chunk of your pocket opening away. I was always taught 5 stitches across, 5 stitches down, 5 stitches on the diagonal to make the triangle. This strengthens a weak point without taking away much of the opening.

    I still don't understand why it wants you to cut two waistbands.

    Hi, I can't choose the size. the table shows that I should sew pants in size 20, and when I check the size of the finished clothes, it turns out to be a tent. Are these pants that wide? 😢
    would you like to help me ?

      They're patterned to be a little bit more roomy, which makes them more comfortable and practical to wear with thicker, more utility type fabrics. For pants, I find it easiest to take them in at the side seams, but it might be tricky with the side placket on these. I'd recommend making a mock up in the size the table recommends, and then if it's too big, start taking the seams in by about 1/4 inch or so at a time. Leave your original line of stitching, so in case you play around and figure out that for you, maybe taking in more at the center front or center back is going to fit better than taking in more at the side seams. And then once you're pretty happy with your assorted nips and tucks, you can reevaluate the size you need to cut the fabric out on. Just make sure to triple check your math; I know I have definitely made some mistakes when trying to outsmart the pattern haha.

      @@threadandneedlefish if you had such dimensions, what size would you choose? hips 114, waist 86, bust 98

    • @threadandneedlefish
      @threadandneedlefish  Рік тому

      @Lady_Karen I think a size 18 would still fit, but it would be a tighter fit, so if your fabric has a little bit of a stretch, or if you want a little more of a sexier, pin-up look, that might be the way to go. Personally, I would still recommend the size 20 since I always find it much easier to make a too big pattern smaller than to try to make a too small pattern bigger. That extra 10cm seems like it's going to be super huge, but once it's on and you're sitting down, moving around, and going about your daily life, it's probably going to be a lot more comfortable.

      @@threadandneedlefish material is thin denim without elastane, so I think I'll stay with a size 20
