lightning armor give your melee counter extended reach and less ending lag so you can use it to clear out the swarms of insects pretty fast without using the beam barrage
If there was one tip I would give, it'd be that LIGHTNING ARMOR IS YOUR BEST FRIEND, especially if you're going through hard or fusion mode.(I've beaten fusion mode twice and had it on all the time) However, the drawback is that it can make certain sections way too easy and you can easily defeat bosses without taking actual damage.
I have some tips from a post I made: 1. When you encounter the Metroid species, they'd usually try to ram into you. If they collide into a wall, they're stunned for a moment allowing you to counter attack. 2. Samus is agile as she is powerful, as shown with her new move, the Melee Counter; an attack so good, it should be in Smash. XD Pressing X will allow to backhand creatures with her arm cannon and leave you vulnerable for a second, but that's not the point of this tip. She's quick on her feet that she could counterattack in *mid-air, on a ledge, even out of Morph-Ball form!* It could be possible to retaliate while Samus' back is turned.
tip# 14 Power Bombing while clinging to a wall launches you in a straight path....The game doesn't tell you that, and I found that out while trying to get the last items, that REQUIRES the new technique... tip# 15 clinging to the ground while the Diggernaught is using his suction ability, will NOT swallow you toward it's mouth. I personally jumped over it, and sometimes got sucked in...and i raged. tip# 16 using the beam burst aeon againt Omega Metroids is vital if you want to expose their chest faster than usual. Also, when the metroid uses it's beam upwards going down, you can ball your way between it's legs, to not get hurt.
I think the reason why this game is so hard is because enemies (especially later on with... certain bosses) do ridiculous amounts of damage. Samus feels like she's super weak here. However, I'd say about 95% of the time, it feels like it's your fault when you die, like you didn't time that jump right or react to that attack in time.
Just wanna say that I feel you on that "forgetting about Aeion abilities" thing. Also, I forgot about the Spider Ball by the time I got to the final fight against Diggernaught
Spoiler: Snape kills Ridley with the Hyper Beam which he time traveled to take, and then you have to enlist the Doctor's help to stop Snape from getting it. Also Crocomire is the super secret final boss that you can only fight by getting every item on Fusion Mode
Even though I already beat it once in 13+ hours (which is enough for me, but I may try the hard mode), these tips were very well explained and some I didn't even know, like how you can bash enemies with your arm cannon when frozen to instakill. On top of that the video was very fluid, with enough jokes and momentum to keep me watching. Keep it up Orpheon, your videos are getting better every upload.
I remember using the sudo screw attack to my advantage and was going to bring it up if you didn't but the secondary one is so much more useful: Space jump+Lightning armor=Go wherever you want damaging enemies as you go... keep in mind it's not a LOT of damage, and that it'll eat up your aeion gauge
14. You can easily kill these "swarms" of enemies with the counter if you don't have Wave- and Spazerbeam yet. 15. Spiderball, Grapple Beam + Aeion Shield and Aeion Beam Burst - each of them will be very useful in one particular bossfight. 16. Only Metroids are weak against the Icebeam, don't try to use it in other bossfights. 17. Some golden enemies will require the Aeion Beam Burst to destroy them without getting hit.
Another tip for expert players: you can clip through those eagle gate things. I found this out by accident by simply jumping on top of them and walking forward. I got a little stuck in the wall, and I realized I might be able to clip through. I held left, and I did. But, it isn't as simple as I thought it was. It's so hard to replicate the glitch and I don't really know how it happens.
Ah, the spoilers... I haven't played the game, I haven't looked up any spoilers, I'VE ACTIVELY AVOIDED SPOILERS, but I still know most of them just because dorks put them in the youtube thumbnails! AAAAAUUUGGH.
Yeah, I've been getting so many videos recommended to me starting with Sonic Mania like "All Bosses" while showing the final battle in the thumbnail or "Knuckles vs *Spoiler*" and such, leading me to select "not interested in this video" because "I didn't like this video" since there was no spoiler option. Eventually I had to see if the channel had anything different besides 100% game walkthrough stuff or showing cutscenes or "evolution of *character/enemy*", sometimes someone who barely ever changed at all in character design, and then go back to my current tab and select the dislike channel option. I HATE those videos and the spoiler thumbnails in the other videos.
and they always try to justify with stuff like "then why did you watch it?" "why don't you leave the internet if you're so worried?" i would like to power bomb'em to oblivion, *_they did the same with Splatoon2 ;_;_*
I find the ice beam + melee the best way to deal with small enemies. There's also the auto-grapple beam "tip" where you aim at something and the pointer would change to blue and automatically switch to the grapple beam. I was switching to beams manually until I learned about it halfway through the game. It makes your life as a bounty hunter a little bit easier.
Heres a tip every metroid and boss has a trick to them learn them and you can clear them out easy. free tip beta metroids almost always charge at you when you freeze them which gives you a chance to use melee counter remember that NJ out
Hello Orpheon! I love your channel, and it really helped to drive my desire to play more Metroid games ^.^ Samus Returns was my first Metroid. It's probably my favorite game ever right now, and I'm so happy that I took the chance and played it in November. I was wondering if you were going to post a thoughts wrap up about the game. Perhaps how it compares to the other 2D Metroid games in the series, or compared to the original Metroid 2. I would love to see more Samus Returns videos in general because I love this game so much. I watched your fusion speed run guide, and I'd love a speed run guide for Samus Returns. I decided to start my 2nd play thru now, and on my 1st play thru I checked in at a lot of hours, because I kept backtracking every time that I got a new power up xD Can't wait for your next video!
I'm glad the video was of use to you, and that you enjoyed Samus Returns! Yes, I am planning a 'wrap up thoughts' video atm, I just wanted to give this game some time to zimmer so I can give my full impressions after multiple playthroughs. I will probably also do a best ending guide after getting more cemented idea of routes to take, so you can look forward to those some time in the future. I have been trying to balance videos on the channel, so its not one topic all the time, but I can assure you a new video on Samus Returns will be uploaded much sooner than you think Thanks for watching, and I hope my videos can help you enjoy Metroid all the more and continue to entertain you
If anyone still plays this game, you can do an infinite bomb jump if you place down to bombs, one 2 seconds after the first one, and keeping placing down bombs like crazy, you can get to higher places that have red spikes or that goo. This only worked for me twice though
One tip that can really speed up Metroid fights but can be difficult to pull off is shooting the Alpha or Gamma Metroid with your beam through the bombs they drop down. If your shot passes through the bombs it appears to do more damage to the Metroid
I've been playing this game non-stop for the last week and finally finished it. 9/10 would play in hard mode. (And hopefully I can get at least the second ending...)
If you need any help/advice for hard mode or speed-running for good endings, let me know on Twitter and I would be glad to help. Might do a video sometime this year, if I can find a capture card to record better footage (in a more comfortable way)
Tip #14 When fighting that digger robot, MISSILES have no effect on it when it sucks up air, BUT SMALL MORPH BALL BOMBS CAN STUN ITOHMYGODIFUCKINGHATETHATGODDAMNROBOT!!!!!
Yeah I used one of the videos on your channel, and thought it was only fitting to put your name on the credits. Hope you don't mind me using it (I know I should have asked first, but did not want to slow down the editing)
The Orpheon Oh! I didn't even notice. It was just a cutscene from the game, not some kind of original content, so there was really no need to ask nor to thank me for it. Anyway, I'm glad it helped you.
Some puzzles in the game require to use the tech morphspark (is that the name?) to do this you have to be stuck to a wall in spider ball and then use a power bomb while still on the wall. When the bomb explodes Samus will fly across the screen to until she hits a solid object. This one took me a while to figure out. :)
Absolutely, its one of those many little handy tricks in Metroid games that the game doesn't explicitly tell you, something I really love about Metroid. Nothing is really spoon fed to you, especially in this game.
Bomberman Hero music? Good taste in music my friend. Also, nice tips. Didn't know the Melee Counter as just an offensive approach, actually dealt damage. I thought it only stunned.
+BrandDude24 huge fan of Bomberman games (especially Hero/second attack/Generations) The melee counter does small amount of damage, but combined with the ice beam makes it a powerful tool
The Orpheon where do you get your chibi samus and friends i been looking for these cute art for ever and i cant seen to find any trace of the artst or the page
The reason for that being that the chibis are done by my close friend exclusively for the channel. You can find more of his work over on Twitter (@Momo_Kishi) but the chibis are done for the channel only, so this is the only way to view them atm
You forgot the “shine spark” spider ball technique necessary for solving red crystal puzzles and dealing good damage to bosses. Hold your spider ball onto any surface and drop a power bomb to propel yourself linearly in the direction opposite the wall you are on.
While enemies hit a lot harder than other games in the series, there aren't any attacks that are difficult to avoid. Take the time to learn their telegraphs and attacks. Use the lightning shield as it doubles or triples your health. Use bombs when the robot boss in area 6 sucks up with the spider ball. It can't suck you up if you are using the spider ball. You can use a power bomb in combination with the spider ball to launch yourself. This will be needed to avoid an attack on the next boss you will face.
Idk if this is a spoiler But Tip There are some items you can't really reach because there's red spikes all over the place Well, remember you can jump in morph ball with bombs? Do the same with a super bomb but while using the spider morph ball And you'll get shoot to the other side
You sir, have earned another sub! been watching your vids all day and I just love your content. Hoping to save up enough money to by a new 2ds and a few games for it soon, one of them will definitely be samus returns.
Thank you, I appreciate your support and I am very happy to hear you enjoying my content. I hope you get to experience this game later and that my video can be of some use to you. If you enjoyed my content, could I please ask you to consider sharing my channel/videos? the additional exposure would be of much help. Thanks for watching
I definitely agree Orpheon, Metroid: Samus Returns is the hardest 2D Metroid game that I have played in a long while (and this is coming from a Metroid veteran that has played every single Metroid game). Metroid Fusion kinda kicked my ass years ago, but no Metroid game has made me die a lot, until now with Metroid: Samus Returns. I just finished the game and, holy HELL! Even on Normal, the game is harder than any other 2D Metroid game. The Power Suit is nowhere near as resilient as in Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission (Easy and Normal), Metroid Prime (Normal and Hard), or even AM2R (Easy and Normal). Right when you get to Area 2 or 3, the difficulty amps up, requiring some good reflexes and tons of items (especially Energy Tanks) in order to better stand a chance against the Metroids and the other enemies. My god, Metroid: Samus Returns is harder than Metroid Fusion, and it sure as hell makes Metroid Prime 2: Echoes look like a cake walk. It definitely is a hard Metroid game (a very hard game for newcomers that don't know how to properly play 2D Metroid). P.S.: And you thought AM2R was very hard on Easy mode (or even on Normal mode); well, compare that to Metroid: Samus Returns on Normal mode, and see which one is the hardest.
I kept on shooting the little electro balls the second Metroid kept dropping needing health (I was using the ice beam) and I kept shooting then seeing nothing in them will the ice beam withhold pick ups (it doesn't with weaker enemies but it's so weak it goes back into normal view and I get less any way)
I've played both Zero Mission and Fusion several times on normal. Samus Returns is brutal compared to those. Enemies are stronger, less ammo for every missile or super missile upgrade, also feels like your shots do less damage to force you to use the Aeons abilities and the melee counter. I'm like 9 hours in, still have 6 Metroids to get, still don't have the power bomb, no idea how to destroy those light blue crystals in some places. This game is hard.
I beat the game 2 years ago why am i watching this Great video though, a lot of these types of videos just feel like they’re regurgitating tutorial info from the game, but this was some genuinely helpful stuff
Pro Tip: Wall Jump It's the ultimate essence of Sequence Breaking. I'm not completely sure it's in Samus Returns but it better be. It made Super Metroid even more entertaining.
I know you said no spoilers but the game is fun, especially after you get the gravity suit and screw attack. Also, those zeta metroids are a pain in the arse.
After beating it in every difficulty, I can easily say this as become one of my favorite Metroid experiences. For me the more annoying Metroids were the Gammas and some of their unpredictable AI
I have a great two parter video Albert gets kidnapped by Crocomire and forced to listen to his music. While that is happening, Ridley and Kraid talk about 2D Metroid bosses
All in all i really enjoyed the game. It was a great return to form for Metroid despite it's linearity, which i can't really blame the remake for. It's based off Metroid 2 which is very linear. It was surprisingly challenging which isn't really a bad thing as long as it's not so hard it takes away from my enjoyment of the game. I also liked the new Aeion abilities specifically the scan pulse. For someone like me who has 100% run'd most of the metroid games it was extremely useful for backtracking. Speaking of backtracking, the game has a teleport system to easily go back to other areas making backtracking much less of a pain. There are a few things I don't like however. For one the wall jump works like it did in metroid fusion though this isn't that big of a deal since the spider ball is still a thing. The way they changed the ice beam i really didn't like. It makes sense that enemies would stay frozen longer with a charge shot but it can be inconvenient at times when the enemy i want to freeze has a free shot at you when charging. Also why doesn't the ice beam stack with the other beams? The exclusion of the speed booster is something i didn't like but you can still get a pseudo shinespark effect using the power bombs and spider ball. But this is just my opinion on the game. What do you think of it?
I am really happy with the game honestly anything 'bad' i can think of are minor nitpicks. I like the exclusion of the speed booster for one, since it gives the game more of a 'search and destroy' feel rather than 'speed run me' the same applies for linearity since you have to make sure to hunt down all the Metroids (one left alive could multiply rapidly) The stacking for ice beam was done so its more of a 'defensive' tool. Effective against Metroids, freezing incoming attacks and creating platforms, compared to the others which are you bread-n-butter destroy beams. I love the Aeion abilities, the scan pulse is something I love so much more than a map room since it made me feel like scouting an uncharted planned with probes.
Actually I'm finding that only a couple of the enemies take one missile to kill, your missiles compared to previous games are half as fast in both fire rate and air speed velocity.
I know there is much info on him, but how about a video on everyone's underrated character Crocomire? If only as a April fools joke, and if you hadn't already done one.
Samus Returns doesnt have a shinespark. If you are wondering for Metroid Dread, its by pressing the “Y+B” at the same time after charging the speedboost. I made a video a few months ago about tips for that game in the ending guide video if you want more information.
imo zero mission had the best wall jump as you could use one wall to scale up, with super metroid coming second as you could do it in that one too, but it was a little more difficult to pull off than ZM... this game doesnt let you do it on single walls, you have to use both.....
For me it has to be Super Metroid since you can use it to gain considerably momentum and the most amount of sequence breaks out of it. It might be trickier to pull of, but still the best once you do
SPOILER: Samus Returns is a remake of Metroid 2
No it's a shitty remaster of AM2R

You can instantly destroy Omega Metroid's armor with a Power Bomb
Also, I like how the Power Bombs in this game look like smoke bombs :p
lightning armor give your melee counter extended reach and less ending lag so you can use it to clear out the swarms of insects pretty fast without using the beam barrage
Did you know you can tap the touch screen to go into morph ball quickly? It will save you the precious seconds of pressing down twice.

17. Some golden enemies will require the Aeion Beam Burst to destroy them without getting hit.
Some enemies can ONLY be damaged by the Beam Burst, or else have increadably high resistance to all weapon types.
Yeah, I'm a bit unprecise because I'm still unshure if it is even possible to kill them without the Beam Burst. xD
Spider Ball + Power Bomb = WHEEEE!

Also save your Aeion for lightning armor and be patient in the third phase. Don't try to bomb it too quickly or it will cost you a crapton of energy.
Also heard spider ball is useful for it, god I hope this is true I'm stuck on it's bossfight
That trick with the Ice Beam is really helpful, considering how relentless the enemies are in this game
sometimes its best to stop them and move on than fighting

_That's not a spoiler_
Kanothis What's a chozo memory?
Images of their first landfall on SR388. Telling a story of how and what happened.
Did not know it until after making the video. Also wanted to keep the tips to the things/equipment you have early game to avoid potential spoilers
Idk if this is a spoiler
But
Tip
There are some items you can't really reach because there's red spikes all over the place
Well, remember you can jump in morph ball with bombs?
Do the same with a super bomb but while using the spider morph ball
And you'll get shoot to the other side
*SPOILER:* samus kills things
Found your channel, watched this video and subscribed instantly.

Thanks for no spoilers appreciate it
I definitely agree Orpheon, Metroid: Samus Returns is the hardest 2D Metroid game that I have played in a long while (and this is coming from a Metroid veteran that has played every single Metroid game).
Could you do a review or at least a "my thought's" video on Metorid Samus returns?
Sure thing, I still have not finished the game, but once I do, I might do a short video on it
@@TheOrpheon Just try AM2R, it's worth it.
So my uncle wants to buy the Collector's Edition, while I have to buy Splatoon 2 for playing it on his Switch
Bomberman Hero music, very very nice.
love the game
I beat the game 2 years ago why am i watching this
Great video though, a lot of these types of videos just feel like they’re regurgitating tutorial info from the game, but this was some genuinely helpful stuff
I cannot wait to get this game on the switch, if they port it, its so nostalgic for me
At some point I stopped watching the video to listen to the Megaman Battle Network music in the background
5k subs. congrats dood.
Thanks, could have not done it without you
Don't mention it ^^
1:36 Squishy squishy 😊
Pro Tip:
Wall Jump
It's the ultimate essence of Sequence Breaking.
I'm not completely sure it's in Samus Returns but it better be.
It made Super Metroid even more entertaining.
+Venatrox # i dont think its as useful compared to Super or Zero Mission perhaps to make the Spider Ball not feel useless. Not a negative in my book
I love you cause you used bomber man hero music. I miss that game so much
Its one of my favorite games
I have a great two parter video
Albert gets kidnapped by Crocomire and forced to listen to his music.
While that is happening, Ridley and Kraid talk about 2D Metroid bosses
+Cactus Thing 4690 Crocomire forces me to listen to his music regardless of the situation
The Orpheon Crocomire Yay!
I'm curious, do you happen to be a fan of Megaman games? Mainly the network games lol. I notice a lot of MMBN music in your videos.
Yeah I ama huge fan of both Battle Network and Star force.
The Orpheon nice, always neat to meet another Megaman fan. Never got around to playing the Star Force games. Enjoyed battle network a lot as a kid tho
Can you make a guide on what order to play these games? Like any remakes to play first or instead
Early game, the best combo is ice beam + missiles
scan pulse makes a different noise if it detects breakable blocks
Thanks bro...great chibi samus I insist jejeje
Hope the tips are of some use
Excellent video, hope you get a capture card soon! :)
I've been trying to find one to no avail. If you know of where I could buy one, I would highly appreciate it. Also im happy you enjoyed the video
The Orpheon sure, I’ll tell if I see one somewhere!
Much appreciated, if it weren't to much to ask, could you please let me know if you find one on Twitter? That way I can see it as quickly as possible
Did you know if you free aim at grappling points you can use it without selecting the grapple on the bottom screen.
Yeah I was aware of it, just forgot to add it to the video (it was late into production once I remembered)
Good video it is helping
I didn't know the fact of no. 6 thanks man!! And those animations are so kawaii ^^
Hope it can be of some use to you
All in all i really enjoyed the game.
I like the exclusion of the speed booster for one, since it gives the game more of a 'search and destroy' feel rather than 'speed run me' the same applies for linearity since you have to make sure to hunt down all the Metroids (one left alive could multiply rapidly)
The stacking for ice beam was done so its more of a 'defensive' tool. Effective against Metroids, freezing incoming attacks and creating platforms, compared to the others which are you bread-n-butter destroy beams.
I love the Aeion abilities, the scan pulse is something I love so much more than a map room since it made me feel like scouting an uncharted planned with probes.
SPOILER:
JK, I respect ur request to keep spoiler free 😀
Actually I'm finding that only a couple of the enemies take one missile to kill, your missiles compared to previous games are half as fast in both fire rate and air speed velocity.
I know there is much info on him, but how about a video on everyone's underrated character Crocomire? If only as a April fools joke, and if you hadn't already done one.
+Patrick Dees I have planned making a video on Crocomire at some point. Just waiting for the opportunity to present itself
What buttons do u press to do the speed boost and the shinespark ? Just need them tips I'm just a beginner at this .
Samus Returns doesnt have a shinespark. If you are wondering for Metroid Dread, its by pressing the “Y+B” at the same time after charging the speedboost.
I made a video a few months ago about tips for that game in the ending guide video if you want more information.
You actually don't even have to hold the circle pad into the wall when wall jumping.
how do you beat Diggernaught? You spam super missiles and hope it works.
Mr. Orpheon, can you please tell me what's the name of this classic melody that is been played at 00:53 ?
It is called 'Redial' from Bomberman Hero
Hey, what's this music from?
Deep Weeb for the first 7 tips I know they're from Bomberman Hero.
I love these super obscure StarForce osts c:
Love the series
can you post links/ names of the background music you used?
Sounds like megaman Battle Network, and Bomberman Hero to me
There are plenty of tracks used from Megaman Battle Network 5 DS, Megaman Starforce 3 and Bomberman Hero
Thx this video help me alot
imo zero mission had the best wall jump as you could use one wall to scale up, with super metroid coming second as you could do it in that one too, but it was a little more difficult to pull off than ZM... this game doesnt let you do it on single walls, you have to use both.....
For me it has to be Super Metroid since you can use it to gain considerably momentum and the most amount of sequence breaks out of it. It might be trickier to pull of, but still the best once you do
I havea question is 4:12:31 and 55% a good time for metroid zero mission (first time I played a metroid game :D)
I guess depends on how much exploration you want to do and wether or not you were going for the best endings?
i am so stuck in this that even the guide i got is not enaught
