Thicc Boss I see what you're saying. It's Meta Ridley though. It might be hard to compare to Metroid Prime one, since the colors kind of blend together with the game's pallet. It's better to look at the Brawl version of Meta Ridley.
I think he actually looks most like Omega Ridely from the beginning of Prime 3 who has more flesh (albiet blueish instead of purple, likely due to phazon). Also Proteus Ridley has alot more flesh than Sma5h Meta Ridley.
Indeed Proteus has way more skin than this Smash skin , but to me it's the closest it'll ever be to Proteus either way. btw Prime 3's two Omega Ridleys are also a valid interpretation
Thicc Boss I could see the argument somewhat being made if you're considering Proteus Ridley's concept art. Proteus Ridley wings have a more natural/fleshy looking webbing.

She has always been considered female, both within her origins in the Prime games, and within Smash Bros. She has Samus' DNA within her, and even the space pirates she brainwashed and was ordering around were referring to her as 'she'.
@@vipeurmiste512 Great, thak you for your answer. I'm playing the Prime Trilogy right now but I still have to finish the first game, so I didn't know these details
Yes. Look up her logbook entries in Prime 2 and Prime 3, and you will see that they will refer Dark Samus as a she. This is due to Metroid Prime being an "it", but the moment it stole Samus' DNA, it became a clone of her, which is why Dark Samus is referred to as a female.
You could argue that even metroid prime was a female to begin with since there is a chance for it to have the genes to be a queen metroid, hence female.
Dark Samus' purple with hues of pink alt imo is a reference to the evil Samus clones you fight in Brawl's Subspace Emissary. They had the gravity suit with a pink highlight for the visor IIRC.
I'm always amazed at the number of musics from Megaman.exe and Starforce you are using in your videos Orpheon. And you always make it so they are barely noticeable, so I only recognize them because I know them so well.
IMO a better classic mode for Zero Suit Samus would have been one where she fights other characters whose games have stealth as a major element, or least certain sections involving stealth. So obviously Snake, but also Young Link, Pit (staying out of the Reaper's line of sight), maybe Inkling, etc.

I like how Dark Samus moves, she's in stark contrast with Samus who has stiff and ridged pasture in her movements like a soldier, but dark Samus never moves limbs that aren't necessary for the attack, almost like it's in pain or possessed
The K. Rool fight in Samus's classic mode seems to be going a step further in that it's referencing FAKE Kraid, since the next level after that takes place on the normal Brinstar Depths, where you can find Kraid messing with the stage.
I'm happy Dark Samus and Ridley are in Smash, but I am surprised they never put Dark Samus's Blue translucent, Phazon Supercharged, Final Boss of MP2 skin in the game, the 3 eyes and metroid tentacles inside the armor look terrifying and menacing. Also I recognized the Custom Robo game music in the middle of the Video, nice.
As amazing as being able to play as Ridley and Dark Samus in Smash is, there was a serious missed opportunity with Dark Samus, to give her a unique moveset based on her attacks in Echoes and Corruption.
Wait, I have a theory. Dark Samus started off as the Metroid Prime and was then combined with the Phazon Suit. Therefore, I hypothesize that Dark Samus is actually a Metroid. This works, because bird magic.
@6:50 - this move, Skewer, is a reference to the third time you encounter Ridley directly in Metroid: Other M when he's no longer in his infant state. He pins down Samus and repeatedly tries to skewer her while you frantically fire missiles at his tail to get him off of you. Anthony finally hits him with a plasma cannon blast, which causes him to get off of Samus and smash through the wall into sector 3.
Another reference in the Dark Samus face zoom win animation: There's a pair of glowing, orange eyes over her visor during the full zoom in, possibly as a call back to Metroid Prime's Essence that is essentially proto-Dark Samus.
Samus and Dark Samus's black alt might just be the Phazon Suit. the gray armor looks like Aurora 313 imo And I think Meta Ridley in smash is actually inspired by both Prime AND Samus Returns (the armor of Proteus Ridley and the wings of Meta Ridley)

@The Orpheon I think the yellow and blue dark samus alternate costume is a reference to trace’s yellow alternate costume from metroid prime hunters. Its actually surprisingly similar!
Regarding Dark Samus' alts: I think the green alt is based on the holographic Samus fight in the Prime Hunters demo i.ytimg.com/vi/_Tig3h2K8yM/hqdefault.jpg And I think that the black/gold one is a reference to Gorea, the final boss of Prime Hunters (the full game) cdn.wikimg.net/en/metroidwiki/images/9/9a/Gorea.jpg Finally, the blue/purple one might be a reference to this boss fight in Prime 2 cdn.wikimg.net/en/metroidwiki/images/a/a6/Dark_Samus_3_mp2_Logbook.png Just my thoughts. Agreed on the other ones though. I actually found the red one the hardest to pin down because neither Trace nor red phazon have that colour exactly or the yellow highlights, but eh. It's close enough. Also the weirdest part about the pink alt is that even though the pink one is so very clearly referencing Gandrayda, the Gandrayda spirit fight uses the blue alt. Perhaps they added the pink one later and didn't bother changing the colour palette for that spirit battle.
oh and i think it would've been nice if they replaced the pink and purple skin for dark samus with her prime 2 zero suit from with the showing bones and veins
YES YES YEEES! You REALLY know what this game needs! Elma needs to be a DLC, badass character from arguably my favorite RPG game, which was ironically released in a failure of a console... hopefully they port it or release a sequel.
The fight against Charizard, Bowser, and Mewtwo feels like a call back to the original N.E.S Metroid bosses for a few reasons, firstly there is the fact Bowser and Charizard are much Smaller than the previously fought Giant Ridley, and Giant King K Rool, who was standing in for Kraid. Kraid also seemed to resemble Bowser a lot appearance-wise in his first sprite & even official artwork. Charizard has been a stand-in for Ridley for years, and he even shares some similar moves to Ridley, so it would make sense for Charizard to be a stand-in for N.E.S Ridley, plus the fact that Charizard doesn't use tail attacks nearly as often as Ridley does, which could be a reference to how Ridley didn't use his tail at all in Metroid N.E.S. Mewtwo's connection to mother brain may be a bit harder to see on the surface, but the fact Mewtwo is a Psychic-type able to control minds, runs parallel to Mother brain's ability to mentally control the Metroids, also the simple fact Psychic powers are associated with high intellectual abilities.
When I got my Samus amiibo when they came out, I named it "SA-X". I never expected to have Dark Samus in Super Smash Bros someday, and it's exciting to see SA-X and Dark Samus face-to-face xD
when you're wanting Sylux for Smash DLC for a multitude of reasons that also include adding more Metroid music from Prime games not named Federation Force.
A few things I want to say: 1. As much as I love Samus and was happy that Ridley is here, I think Dark Samus is now my main. 2. I like to play the Dark Samus with both the Dark with yellow outline suit and her silver suit, and I like to play Ridley as his original version (purple with green wings and claws) and the silver Meta Ridley (Due to the silver, I named him, “Gramps”)!
This is what I think all of Dark Samus' alternates refer to, personally -Green: Weavel Purple: I would say Noxus (and still do) but the spirit battle for Gandrayda uses this alternate, so it was likely intended as such Red: Samus' colored sprite in Metroid II (with the Gameboy being limited to using red and yellow) Gold: Torizo Silver: Prime 2 Concept Art Black: Prime Exo (Power Beam) Pink: I would say Gandrayda (and still do) but as the game used the purple alternate for Gandrayda's spirit battle, it is likely that this one is a Smash original *cough*stillsupersaltytheydidn'tgiveSamusthephazonsuitasanalt*cough*
I have never played Metroid Prime but I was excited to see Dark Samus get in. Also Dark Samus’ second victory then that you covered is just to be anime. XD
Something I always wondered about was why wasn't Dark Samus attacks from when she was an assist trophy repurposed and tweaked for Ultimate? The programming for the attacks and animations to function properly were already there and they could've updated the model to reflect the design she was given for Ultimate.
in my opinion, the purple blue skin that dark samus has is more of a reference to the final battle with dark samus in echoes. the one when she had her skeleton and such exposed

@The Orpheon the red and orange dark samus alternate costume could also be a reference to Weavel’s red alternate costume in hunters as well!
Ridley introduced me to my favorite game and franchise when he made it in
I hope to see the E.M.M.I. or Raven Beak or Both playable in the next game :)
Regarding Dark Samus' alts: I think the green alt is based on the holographic Samus fight in the Prime Hunters demo

And I think that the black/gold one is a reference to Gorea, the final boss of Prime Hunters (the full game)

Finally, the blue/purple one might be a reference to this boss fight in Prime 2

Just my thoughts.
Every time I watch one of your videos and hear the Custom Robo music it makes me so happy.
Great video! Also didn't expect any Custom Robo music to play!
Love me some Custom Robo
oh and i think it would've been nice if they replaced the pink and purple skin for dark samus with her prime 2 zero suit from with the showing bones and veins
06:49 his down special could also be that one Scene from Aliens where the Xeno Queen killed that cyborg in the final fight
Samus' black & yellow alt color could also be from the demolition troopers from the escort mission in the pirate homeworld from Metroid Prime 3
YES YES YEEES! You REALLY know what this game needs! Elma needs to be a DLC, badass character from arguably my favorite RPG game, which was ironically released in a failure of a console... hopefully they port it or release a sequel.
Entirely random and unrelated, but...
I like the Custom Robo music in the background. That game was my childhood lol
A few things I want to say:
The irony of an echo fighter having so much depth to her is amazing
This is what I think all of Dark Samus' alternates refer to, personally
-Green: Weavel
Purple: I would say Noxus (and still do) but the spirit battle for Gandrayda uses this alternate, so it was likely intended as such
Red: Samus' colored sprite in Metroid II (with the Gameboy being limited to using red and yellow)
Gold: Torizo
Silver: Prime 2 Concept Art
Black: Prime Exo (Power Beam)
Pink: I would say Gandrayda (and still do) but as the game used the purple alternate for Gandrayda's spirit battle, it is likely that this one is a Smash original
*cough*stillsupersaltytheydidn'tgiveSamusthephazonsuitasanalt*cough*
apparently too they added the theme “Hunters” From Metroid Prime 2’s multiplayer mode
I have never played Metroid Prime but I was excited to see Dark Samus get in. Also Dark Samus’ second victory then that you covered is just to be anime. XD
Ridley up taunt symbolizes him standing up like in super metroid
Ridley's side B is a pretty neat tool.
I really love that Ridley art on the thumbnail
One line I just made up was "Welcome to the Boston Streets MotherFucker" when seeing the Captain America.
Something I always wondered about was why wasn't Dark Samus attacks from when she was an assist trophy repurposed and tweaked for Ultimate? The programming for the attacks and animations to function properly were already there and they could've updated the model to reflect the design she was given for Ultimate.
I wish Dark Samus had a costume with the metroid prime 2 design of her, with the holes in the shoulder parts and the different arm canon and such
The colors are the colors of regular Samus beam cannons through the 3 games.
3:04 Dark Samus: why are you so creepy, SA-X
Dark Samus is the first character that was an alternate color and also an assist trophy.
All the art of Zero Suit Samus in this video is really cute.
I love those drawings of SSBU Ridley. He’s just... cute.
in my opinion, the purple blue skin that dark samus has is more of a reference to the final battle with dark samus in echoes. the one when she had her skeleton and such exposed
me: *is doing a blind playthrough of metroid fusion, but doesn't mind a few spoilers*
*learns Ridley's coming up*
me: well fuck ima die
I appreciate the Mega Man and Custom Robo BGM tracks.
Yay an sax character finnaly
And no the one that's just samus with tape on it DOSENT count
This gentleman can't make a smash video without praying to sakurai to put Elma in the game
I do that every night too
Sakurai pls
Glad I'm not the only one who realized that Dark Samus is technically a metroid.
Sakurai said in an interview that ridley’s down taunt was one of his favorites in the game
It’s the taunt where he stands up
Or as I like to say, he *E X T E N D S*
If you want to do another Metroid Smash video, you could do one on the Spirits and their battles, summon methods, and abilities to see how they're referenced.
I was planning on doing a episode on the subject, but recording the fights is so difficult due to their random nature on spirit board. I will probably do it once I start my new game plus (havent finishing WOL yet)
custom robo music in the background, nice.
I wonder if we'll ever get a new Custom Robo game.
I would honestly love Rundas as a unique fighter. The hunters from Prime 3 deserve some love!
I knew you'd make a video like this one. Great job!
It would have been cool to have the Space Pirates as a playable character, with Beam Troopers.
Thanks for another great video! Dank Samus is awesome and I also agree they should have had her theme instead of federation force...
