There was a visual bug at 10:37. Sorry about that. We had loads of issues with this video (first time learning new software) And after over a dozen re-renders trying to fix other issues, I guess we got tired and didn't double check this render besides the other issues we knew about. Sometimes bugs slip through the cracks. Sorry again.
Mini-theory for you about Samus losing her abilities. Her suit has a default mode, so all of these various power ups are a kind of add-on, or program added in, or even a piece of hardware not intended for the suit forcibly patched in (in the case of many visors and weapons in the Prime series). At the start of each (most) game, something happens that damages the suit pretty heavily and forces it to the 'factory default' in a way. Smashing against a wall, infected with an unknown energy or... well, having them literally stripped out of her by a dark entity (again, in the Prime series) and in Fusion, her suit is literally taken apart and fused to her being in many ways (which raises SO MANY more questions). So that's how she's always losing powers. Some massive system crash that forces a factory reset.
Samus already had the phase drift ability, only in a different form that let her do something that the phase drift doesn't: Speed Booster. Yes, you can Powerbomb Jump, but it's just not the same as shinesparking, IMO.
I'd say there are some key differences between Speed Boost and Phase Drift, even without taking the Shinespark into account. Speed Boost requires Samus to be in motion to work, and relies on momentum. Also, a Speed Boosting Samus can defeat most enemies by running into them. Phase Drift works regardless of how Samus is moving, but she still takes damage while it's in effect.
The second explanation of phase shift seems more in line with how the other abilities seem to work. Boosting her and her suit with energy rather than sending her between dimensions would be more practical anyway
Going off of the Chozo Memories, I believe that Aeion is the Life Energy that the Metroids absorb. The Space Pirates studied Metroids extensively going off of a scan from Prime 3 on the Pirate Homeworld and they had no idea what the Metroids take from its victims. The Space Pirates aren't stupid, and only a race as technologically and mystically advanced as the Chozo would know about Aeion, how to measure it and use it in technology like Samus' Power Suit. Samus' suit absorbs Aeion as well as Energy and Missile pick ups, Aeion even appears from enemies before Samus gets her first Aeion ability so Samus can at least see Aeion. Whether or not she knows what it is, how it works and so on is a debate in and of itself. I do like what you said about Aeion though as well as the Electro Armor and Phase Drift. I thought that the Phase Drift was just a cool name that Nintendo picked, but you made it make sense.
I'd like to make a counterpoint. Metroid do indeed absorb Aeion Energy, as they're capable of absorbing all forms of energy - they're shown capable of draining electrical energy from the Mechs in Federation Force, and I recall it being established somewhere that the purple Energy is actually Life energy, aka a 4D expression of life force. The Aeion Energy, however, is a pseudo-life energy exclusive to SR-388, which would explain why the Metroids only evolve the way they do on SR-388. I also find it fair to assume that X-Parasites are made of Aeion, likely fossilized aeion from prehistoric creatures on SR-388, hence the aggressive mutations they cause and the drastic evolutions their sole predator undergoes
For future reference: 4th dimension /= time. This is a very common misconception, but just because something is 4D does *not* mean that that "extra dimension" is time. Dimension itself in the most general sense is a purely spacial property. In essence, it's a property of some space that describes the number of "independent" directions you can travel in within that space. In 2D, you can reach every point only by moving in combinations of left/right and up/down, but in 3D, you need an extra direction (like forward/backward) to be able to get everywhere, and though in our day to day experience we don't encounter anything like it, we can imagine some space in which you can travel along yet some other independent direction. Of course, this is really over simplifying the math, but the point I really want to get across is that you can imagine instances of 4D things that have *nothing* to do with time, in fact, there's a fair bit of math diving into it (and even spaces much much higher dimensional, still without conflating them with time) However, there _is_ still some link between them, but it's in the sort of opposite direction as most people view it to be. In particular, the whole "4D is time" thing, comes from the fact that you can take our universe and instead of describing it as a 3D universe with time, represent time as some extra "special" 4th dimension, and describe it all as just one big 4D space. tl;dr 4D does not imply time, but time can be described as a 4th dimension
blackcorvo And now, after a brief Google search, I know what vore is and wish I didn’t. I could have happily gone my whole life without knowing what that was.
"Some American supercrusiers state that they have an electric armor defense grid that disrupts missiles' ion jets and controls them slightly to force them to miss." No part of that statement is correct; there isn't even such a thing as an American supercruiser, the closest a real ship comes to this is degaussing equipment to make it harder to detect the ship via magnetic sensors, and I'm assuming you're attempting to describe Dynamic Armor which is a distant (20+ years away) possible upgrade to the Ford-class that would theoretically protect it from shaped-charge warheads (an almost inconsequential threat to a supercarrier, which has relatively light armor and is much more vulnerable to a warhead that dedicates its mass to high explosive yield instead of focusing the blast) but is still dependent on physical armoring materials bearing the brunt of the blast (all the "electric" part does is break up the destructive jet and make it spread inside the electrical insulation part of the armor instead of punching straight through to the ship's interior, and the jet has to punch through the outer energized armor, through the electrical insulator, and start to penetrate the final, grounded layer of armor before the Dynamic Armor begins to take effect).
The goal was to correct one sentence with another; too bad the former was so wrong that the latter was so long. (Also I tried doing that once and YT dropped the edit and deleted all work and CBA to do it again)
Hey Gnoggin, good theory. One thing you ought to consider with this theory is the fact that Phantoon is called a "multidimensional creature whose entire body cannot exist in a single dimension" by some official background concepts from Other M, and as unpopular as that game is, its still canon that there IS dimensional travel in the Metroid games!
11:15 attosecond sounds like attomic second. There are micro seconds. An attonic second would be a second dimensional second since attoms are 2nd dimension. Look up the kalooza-kline theory. The next physical dimension is 5th dimension anyway. Which includes the electromagnetism in the gravity as well as time.
What if, instead of making Samus 'speed up', what Phase Drift _actually_ does is emit some sort of "pulse" that "slows down" the world around her? Something that, somehow, is able to decrease the speed of all surrounding atoms, while binding them together so that everything the atoms make up don't just fall apart? I guess an example could be, imagine how fast atoms move when creating a campfire. Now, imagine if you could somehow decrease the speed at which the atoms in the fire move, as well as the surrounding atmosphere, decreasing the *required speed* for atoms to move at to create a fire. "To the fire" it may seem like nothing has changed, but if there were someone unaffected by this shift, the fire may appear to move in slow motion... or not, or something like that. I'm not a scientist.
Something interesting I noted on my playthrough of the game: when you use the teleport stations, the load screen is Samus floating in a strange purple void. When you use Phase Drift, the screen turns purple. One is warping across space, and the other is slowing down time. So I guess... The fourth dimension is just purple everywhere?
I don't think Samus' arm cannon is a laser cannon, my guess is that it's more like a plasma weapon except that it fires different gasses instead of actual plasma until you get the plasma cannon upgrade which would, obviously, make it fire actual plasma. But over-charging it would probably make it fire faster anyways because it uses electricity as a main part of the firing mechanism.
grimmik345 If that were the case what sort of gas would the "Ice Beam" be? I believe if appears as shards of ice in Samus Returns. So wouldn't it have to be some sort of liquid cold enough that as soon as it touches something it hardens? Henceforth freezing the area affected by the liquid? Because I'm not sure if plasma could have the property of freezing. Unless a gas can go straight to being a solid with capabilities of freezing something. I'm sorry if this is hard to read. I tried to get my thoughts out quickly.
The fact that Samus in Zero Suit can dodge lasers makes her LS since lasers are usually light, but you can probably low ball it down to hypersonic, + Speed boosters adding a drop of a few mach's + Phase Drift would make her extremely fast, since she would be going faster than Hypersonic if she's slowing down time. It does make sense the Chozo would have a Phase drift ability because in the Metroid prime 1 Lore they transcended beyond space-time via Omnilock and the universe, and the Chozo ghosts you fight phase in and out of existence.. But her Simple X-ray visor can pierce into the Chozo Omnilock state.
I think the second theory about the phaze drift makes abit more sense. Since Samus does have the reflexes to catch bullets (I believe this is done in the manga) and the power suit enhances her natural abilities further. It wouldn't be far stretch to guess that the Phaze drift further increases her already insane perception and reaction time. Or it could be what the speed boost tech is based off.
Can you do a video explaining pokemon evolution? For example talking about how pokemon evolve, what it means, the energy it uses, why when you breed to fully evolved pokemon you hatch a pre-evolved pokemon (even though they are different species technically), how a pokemon becomes a legendary, or the contrast of primal reversion. I thought it was an interesting topic and I would like to get your thoughts and ideas on the subject.
The lightning armor doesn't necessarily have to be traditional electricity. Considering the fact that electricity and magnetism are fundamentally the exact same thing just in different forms, it's perfectly possible that the lightning armor is actually using electromagnetic waves vibrating at a frequency that allows them to function as a repulsive force, the fact that there's not a constant drain on her aeion reserves means it's likely her suit is activating it only in proximity to danger. The acid being able to reach through it could easily be explained by the inclusion of some form of metallic substance in the acid allowing it to disrupt to the electromagnetic waves more easily. The crystals piercing through it can be explained by the fact that most crystals can screw with electromagnetic energy.
9:00 Just saying, it's possible that Phase Drift is simply just speeding up the movements of Samus's power suit, with Samus being skillful enough to handle the increase in speed and the 'time slowing down' simply being for us players. However, how Samus manages to operate on faster time than everything else without experiencing a ton of air resistance is beyond me.
If you look at all the Chozo Memories, Aeon energy is found to be a unique life energy to SR388 and the Chozo had just started applying it to science and technology before things went awry. It shouldn't really be expected to see Aeon abilities outside of this game.
Looking at the Chozo memories though, it seems to suggest that Aeion is life energy. The Chozo seem to be able to extract it from dead creatures and then reanimate them with it.
Phase Drift can't be Samus just processing information faster and moving faster, since she still falls at normal speed while everything else falls slower.
How can phazon grow and spread? Does it speed up the radioactive decay of nearby matter so it actually transforms into more phazon and crystalyze? I really like the idea of a sentient mineral, becouse life only means being able to reproduce really, and phazon does that, and helps itself by modifying corrupted organism and making a simbiosis so they can spread it further, including samus in metroid prime 3 since she goes around shooting in hypermode
If my idea of their being three sets of physics (physics, metaphysics, and paraphysics) is correct and each one having a periodic table (the periodic, philosophic and ethereal tables) for a base material (matter, perception, and energy) this aeon energy may be what I refer simply to as thaumatic energy or 'mana', ie the carbon of energy elements and what makes psychic and magical phenomena work in less physics dominated universes If you wondered how I came up with something so loony >multi verse theory: for every possibility there is a reality\timeline\universe for it and two questions people have forgotten to ask in regards to it 1 if it is true then what is separating the realities? 2 how do some of these realities work since some of them clearly do not operate on our physics? I've come up with answers for both but you can guess where I pulled out this little idea from and what do you think of it?
E- tan are you? Read the rest of the sentence. how do (proper noun)’s (proper noun)s work? The : is a part of the first proper noun, in case it was confusing you. It’s fine dude, I don’t blame you for a simple grammatical error like this. c:
"Metroid: Samus Returns" is the name of the game, so that's the proper noun in this case. It's like saying "How do Mario And Luigi: Partners in Time Abilities work?" etc.
So Aeon literally means "life force" or "vital force" Thanks Gnoggin, you basically just proved my observations about Aeion being the life force that Metroids drain since when the Chozo drain it from hornoads they become husks identical to the poor Hornoad at the start of the game
Don't forget: Bird people who can almost effortlessly create things like teleporters, holograms, laser weapons and bio-engineer lifeforms like Metroids + "Crystals" that are actually live animals and can walk around and a massive yellow snail with rocks on its back.
It really sounds stupid to me when someone says "Nintendo should make more Metroidvania games like this" It is Metroid. It's not a knock off. It doesn't need a type-genre as it is it's own genre! Just say "Nintendo needs to make more Metroid games like this" Castlevania shouldn't have anything to do with Metroid and it's genre as it came much later than Metroid's backtracking style.
-Catalyst Mints ad comes up I'll buy it when they ship to Canada, alright? "Now with worldwide shipping" ...Alright gimme some time to scrounge up money it's kinda all being blown on Pokemon and Christmas shopping this month...
Im sick of complaining about everything in Samus Returns. But I think considering the Phase Shift replaces the Speed Booster so baby newcomers dont have to increase their skill to move faster, I think the non-spiritual explanation makes more sense, an increase in perception rather than actually slowing time
Honestly there is not much difference between an increase in perception and slowing down time when seeing someone do it. Then again time also does not apply to you when you are near a event horizon of a Black hole the same can apply when you are in one, to the person that is experiencing it time is no longer a factor as they drift in the infinite nothingness to their demise that is the singularity as it is the last peace that the black hole grants them before they get erased and turn into antimatter particles that shoot out of the jets. Then they touch matter and get annihilated and turn into neutrons thus the vicious cycle repeats and the universe can continue to exist. I will see my 5th dimensional self out
Aeion Abilities: Because a character with a history of waiping out entire species and destroying planets would totally benefit from the power to slow time. Anywho, Samus Returns is great. Probably my 4th favorite Metroid.
Aeion abilities are spiritual upgrades, not scientific ones. The Chozo interwove spirituality into their technology, prim example is the suite that Samas wares. These aeion abilities are abilities that are spiritual in nature.
Yeah she was infused with Chozo DNA, but that is only path of it. People have done all the math on it and she would hit like a tank. XD forums.spacebattles.com/threads/samuss-strength-and-zebess-gravity.166365/
Some of the enemies in the game can be killed in one shot. But many of the monsters could also be super strong. But a normal human she would be able to kill with 1 punch easily.
well, its kinda obvious that Samus loses all of the aeon abilities, just look at Super Metroid. She literally starts the game with power beam and and varia suit only, so the question is what caused her to lose the abilities in between Samus Returns and Super?
There was a visual bug at 10:37. Sorry about that. Hopefully Aeon doesn't house similarities with Phazon.
do you mean the big yellow thing
Lockstin & Gnoggin Lava still hurts you through Lightning Armor too. I found this one out the hard way.

The Phaze Drift could be what the Speed booster is based upon now that you mention it.
also note she has shadows of herself split off, it might be a incomplete phase shift
Mmm more Metroid...👍
ProtoMario mmm...but Proto!
Yo shoutout to Protomario. Take a peek at some of his Pokémon theory videos they are really interesting.
Sean Seiter but proto what about pokemon
but PROOOTOOOO if he did more metroid then how will he post more pokemon alchemy
0:29 kinky oh my god I did not expect that at all

How about you break up that paragraph you're forcing to be a single sentence into manageable chunks?
The goal was to correct one sentence with another; too bad the former was so wrong that the latter was so long. (Also I tried doing that once and YT dropped the edit and deleted all work and CBA to do it again)
Thanks for this although he could know about what the ships are called and just assumed they were called super cruisers
Hey Gnoggin, good theory. One thing you ought to consider with this theory is the fact that Phantoon is called a "multidimensional creature whose entire body cannot exist in a single dimension" by some official background concepts from Other M, and as unpopular as that game is, its still canon that there IS dimensional travel in the Metroid games!
txcrnr To be fair Other M has some great boss fights. The fact that the giant Phantoon is just his head is pretty freaky yet awesome at the same time.
Wait what would happen if it's entire body was in a single dimension at the same time?
johnny elkins Maybe it couldn't fit in? Like you, a 3-dimensional being, can't possibly fit on one flat plane.
question how could you possibly kill it for good then?
12:29 or you know, not being allowed to use the upgrades until she's ordered to use them
11:15 attosecond sounds like attomic second. There are micro seconds. An attonic second would be a second dimensional second since attoms are 2nd dimension. Look up the kalooza-kline theory. The next physical dimension is 5th dimension anyway. Which includes the electromagnetism in the gravity as well as time.
6:48 no my arm is a sentient being, it lives on it’s own.

Mr. Pokirby that's waaay more complicated than just freezing everything or just increasing the gravity
You overcomplicated everything, Seamus is not Dio, you know?
Well, I for one like the idea!
This is good
Batman I'd like to see Samus running around with The World.
I feel like this could easily be edited to a become vsauce video/ytp

thanks god, I was already honestly starting to miss the Catalyst mints ads
You misspelled Aeion Lockstin!!!!!!!!!
Ness you misspelled ÆON
Fam, in the game it’s spelled Aeion, he even shows it on the screen
He did it as a joke he used the danish letter Æ A E put togetter and it can sound like AEI that's why he spelled it likw that
Okay. So The 4th Dimensional Being Isn't Completely Out The Window. But Look At The Chozo History. They Just Kind Of Found Aeon Energy On SR-388.

It wouldn't be far stretch to guess that the Phaze drift further increases her already insane perception and reaction time. Or it could be what the speed boost tech is based off.
I always thought of the scan pulse like the scan visor from the prime games, put into the 2-D games.
Scan pulse replaces map rooms.
Can you do a video explaining pokemon evolution? Where did you get that Kirby figure? During the catalyst mints advert
Nicely thought out.
8:34 Wait... that says Phase DRIFT, but you've been saying Phase SHIFT.
Burst Flare right?
the description of the sound pulse makes me think of bats echo location.
Huh, I'm glad UA-cam recommended this to me, I never recall seeing this in my sub box.
That... Or Phase Drift means' she's dipping into the Speed Force. Wonder if Samus will ever meet the flash ^.^
If you look at all the Chozo Memories, Aeon energy is found to be a unique life energy to SR388 and the Chozo had just started applying it to science and technology before things went awry. It shouldn't really be expected to see Aeon abilities outside of this game.
Samus’ beam burst is really just a mini gun upgrade to her arm cannon.
Phase drift replaces speed boost.
Can you do the Science of the Phantom Ruby in recent Sonic Games pls?

do a video on how OP samus with all her gear would be
If my idea of their being three sets of physics (physics, metaphysics, and paraphysics) is correct and each one having a periodic table (the periodic, philosophic and ethereal tables) for a base material (matter, perception, and energy) this aeon energy may be what I refer simply to as thaumatic energy or 'mana', ie the carbon of energy elements and what makes psychic and magical phenomena work in less physics dominated universes
If you wondered how I came up with something so loony
>multi verse theory: for every possibility there is a reality\timeline\universe for it and two questions people have forgotten to ask in regards to it
1 if it is true then what is separating the realities?
2 how do some of these realities work since some of them clearly do not operate on our physics?
I've come up with answers for both but you can guess where I pulled out this little idea from and what do you think of it?
I wonder if the Chozo developed the lightning armor with the electric shock produced by the alpha metroid in mind?
So is the Phase Drift just an Aeion powered purple speed booster? I like that much more than time manipulation.
What I want to know, is what is in Samus's shoulder pauldrons?+
Their fairly bulky, so I wonder what purpose they serve.
They are thrusters, as seen during the *Spoilers* battle with Ridley *Spoilers end* and while using the Speed Booster in Metroid: Other M.
OMG THE MINTS ARE BACK!!!
i would order those mints but my mom told me to never give into peer pressure
changing your relative speed effects time
The fourth dimension being isn't Phantoon ?
Anyone know where he got his shirt?
You frogot to mention that the rays pass through walls, so it is likely gamma rays or stronger with a good power souce,
Space is not Time, 4d spatial movement doesn't manipulate the flow or experience of time.
super random but were did your cloud strife figureine come from?
How do metroid... Lockstin... are you drunk? If you are, pass me the beer
Ik, it’s worded odd. It means How do abilities from this game work, just phrased in a weird order
The title is to be read as "How do {{Metroid: Samus Returns} {Aeion Abilities}} Work?
YES CATALYST SPONSORSHIPS ARE BACK
People are talking about Lockstin saying Kinky and all i'm wondering is how to get that shirt!
So Aeon literally means "life force" or "vital force"
Thanks Gnoggin, you basically just proved my observations about Aeion being the life force that Metroids drain since when the Chozo drain it from hornoads they become husks identical to the poor Hornoad at the start of the game
After all these years I thought Samus's new abilities, wouldn't be so dull.
My question is, why is Aeon not usable as regular (health) energy?
Where did you get that shirt?? I want it!
Wait what, first metroidss, then the x virus, now a powerful 4th dimensional being, ALL ON THE SAME PLANET, holy bleep
Don't forget: Bird people who can almost effortlessly create things like teleporters, holograms, laser weapons and bio-engineer lifeforms like Metroids + "Crystals" that are actually live animals and can walk around and a massive yellow snail with rocks on its back.
Every time I use the phase shift I think of dio's za warudo move
Scan pulse equals sonar from subs and ground mapping????
Canonically the chozo made the suit, yes, but it was designed by mother brain before she became bad momma
Metroid isn't sci-fi, it's science fantasy. That connects to your morph ball theory actually
Maybe sr388's aeon is the same energy that Prime 2 is all about
Where did you get that shirt? I want to buy one!
Hair looks like ludicrous speed
These takes are so long! How many takes did you need?
It really sounds stupid to me when someone says "Nintendo should make more Metroidvania games like this"
It is Metroid. It's not a knock off. It doesn't need a type-genre as it is it's own genre! Just say "Nintendo needs to make more Metroid games like this"
Castlevania shouldn't have anything to do with Metroid and it's genre as it came much later than Metroid's backtracking style.
-Catalyst Mints ad comes up
I'll buy it when they ship to Canada, alright?
"Now with worldwide shipping"
...Alright gimme some time to scrounge up money it's kinda all being blown on Pokemon and Christmas shopping this month...
WHERE DID YOU GOT THAT SHIRT OMG
I will see my 5th dimensional self out
Good'ol metroid, giving you cool powers and abilities just to make sure lose them at the start of the next entry in the series.
Where be the shirt from? :)
How much does catalyst mint cost in the Swedish crown/kr
Anyone have a link to the image on the left of the thumbnail?
Ahem, “Phase Drift” Ahem...
Aeion Abilities: Because a character with a history of waiping out entire species and destroying planets would totally benefit from the power to slow time.
Anywho, Samus Returns is great. Probably my 4th favorite Metroid.
Catalyst mints woo
Did Nintendo change the pronunciation of æon (is it used in Samus Returns as a word or as an acronym) or is that one on you?
Aeion abilities are spiritual upgrades, not scientific ones. The Chozo interwove spirituality into their technology, prim example is the suite that Samas wares. These aeion abilities are abilities that are spiritual in nature.
An attosecond is 1×10−18 of a second (one quintillionth of a second)
Samus grew up on the planet Zebes. A planet that has about 865 times earth's gravity. She was always OP. XD
Yeah it does. She would be insanely strong. She could kill most of her enemies just by punching them. XD
Did you read the post I linked?
well, its kinda obvious that Samus loses all of the aeon abilities, just look at Super Metroid. She literally starts the game with power beam and and varia suit only, so the question is what caused her to lose the abilities in between Samus Returns and Super?
Watch Vsauce’s where is down video for some cool time science perspectives.
Dude... for the last one is a better idea that improves samus movility a lot more faster, soo she will percive tamme a little slower....
Time travel is possible it's like a ant on a bush you can't change the Leafs and the way they grow but you can change the branch that you go on
Oh and you're going to need a lot of energy to change the pathway the 🐜 go on
Looking a bit green there Lockstin...
Except they found aeon from the creatures on the planet, as said by the pictures as you complete the game.
I want that shirt.
