Blur's 1st TV apparence - There's No Other Way (Eggs And Baker, 1991)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 вер 2024
- From Cheryl Baker's early 90s pre-Going Live cookery/baggy showcase (Candyflip appeared once too), Eggs And Baker. Repeated on the rarely-missed UK Play channel's 'Dream Performance' filler.
I saw them on this first tour of Leisure. Damon refused to autograph my shirt cause it was of The Charlatans. He said he liked them too much to write on it. Class act.
lol lucky
Omg
Graham Coxon, one of the very best guitarists of his generation 👌🏼👍🏼
Absolutely he was! Very original approach!
Damon now says about "Leisure" that he wasn't quite ready to be a songwriter, so when the record company told him "make a song like 'Fools gold' because that's what's selling and will get you guys airplay." He basically went "Okay"
But the title is very sarcastic, if you consider the song's genesis.
It's a good song though.
Graham's riffs + bands intense groove made the alright Damon's forced baggy baby a great song.
@@T4TipsGuides 🤣
And Graham hasn't aged or changed a bit since, even now in 2014 he still looks the same
2018 and still looks adorable
Like the baterist
like Eric Clapton?
2022 and still looks adorable
2023 and looks like Gravel Coxon
4 VERY attractive men who make awesome music and look younger than they really are....Love these people.
Wow, they were absolute babies here. Look at Albarn in all his floppy haired glory.
Damon looks really cute with that hair cut😙
They're. so. fucking. pretty.
Damon's hair
Blur 1st TV appearance.
Cameraman: Graham playing guitar, Damon being cool at the mic stand, a red-shirted guy with face covered by a hi-hat.
Drummer’s lot in life. I know from experience. 🤷🏻♂️🥲🥁
Brian Jones hair. Very 1960's.
i remember watching this, very unaware of what i was witnessing, around the age of 9 not knowing what an impacted this band would have on my early teens. funny the things you remember the most.
Looks like Liam modeled himself on this early performance, even down to the way Damon looks into the camera from head-tilted angles.
More like both of them modelled their early careers on the stone roses and the madchester scene
Ian Brown
Both Oasis and Blur were influenced by the Stone Roses a lot.
@@daniel79tj it is our cultures styles since childhood
Naaa. They both liked punk / post punk and Stone Roses
Such a great bass line, on top of the phenomenal guitar part.
wow!! sounds just like the studio version!!! damon totally sounds like this live!!
The vocal sounds off, probably they were singing live to the backing track.
It is the studio version! They are miming! There’s no live drums on the original recording, they used a drum loop Stephen Street created.
is playback duh
Well yeah most UK tv studios weren’t set up to mix live music, so NO bands performed live on most tv shows. TOTP is nearly all mimed.
@@pyenapple skill issue on their part
they all look so young here gosh 💛 i miss the 1991 vibes
aw they're so cute here!
I used to love Eggs and Baker and I remember this. I was a heavy metal fan (still am) but Blur blew me away. Thank you.
saw them live in 91 at Food records christmas party, they were brilliant.
the way i absolutely adore his bowlcut!!!! such a cutie :c
0:17 don't ever designate Blur as a boyband ever again for fuck's sake!
I. Was in the audience watching that being filmed I was next door filming 8:15 from Manchester with mi.mam I was about 13. I said to r kid watch out for these their goin to be big
then you started Bush?
This is the song that got me listening to Blur :)
best band
It is about time Liam Gallagher recently grants a bit of credit to Blur. However, what is with Gorillaz? Ride, Slowdive are making great comebacks. Your turn Blur.
Blur already released their comeback album, the Magic Whip.
No need for a come back, they work well together so 'm sure they'll be another album at some point, they did the magic whip and released a couple of other songs including Under the Westway. Damon has lots of musical projects so it'll depends on what he feels like doing I guess.
They look so cute! Great song!
Leisure is still my favourite album from them
I was here in the studio of eggs and baker with my school and remember it so clear ❤
This is just Gold ❤ The best era of Blur.
the 3 dislikes were from oasis
wow, is really sad to read comments as this : "Hey its that dude from Gorillaz! "
I was in the audience for this.
They were playing real Madchester back then
Ohh yeaaahh
no hay otra manera
OMG...the look so young here! I miss the 90s.
Yeh. I remember them seeing doing Bang on TOTP but never saw this. Love the visual 'effect' going on at the end,
That doesn't sound 'live' to me.. sounds exactly like the album version with layer harmonies etc..??
That's because they mimed. It was a kids TV show.
TMATMATMA I don’t get why they mime tho, they have the mics and instruments and everything, why not use them?
@@leomullaney1035 "Why rehearse for a show kids only watch? If we lip-sync they won't notice" it was probably their thought.
@@leomullaney1035 it was a very common thing in the 80s to mime for TV? It was strange
You guys see when nirvana messed up their song on purpose because MTV only let the vocals live.
unfortunately, damon looks better with short hair
hahahaha i love damon´s haircut
he was so young
Cheers. I've not seen this one. Nice guitar neck-cam' work :)
still babies AW
almost 20 years wow. compare this to them performing it live at glastonbury 2009.
Crowd handclaps out of sync is something gorgeous!!!
Pure class haha
I was a quiz show contestant on this when James did 'Sit Down' - and I got prize video of 'Dub Be Good To Me' by Beats International... also, Mark Curry was the warm up man, he was a bit of a tool if memory serves.
Hang on....Is that "Lauren Laverne" from Kenickie / Radio DJ etc at the very beginning for a split second?
6 dislikes is from Oasis Lol
Damon's hair like Brian Jones and Kevin Ayers in 1991!!!
WoWWW
Epic!
@meiray On early 90s kids TV, you didn't expect anything more.
MUSHROOM DAMON
That guitar cam is quite good. But Blur are even better...
Aww so cute
There absolutely is another way-they could have really played instead of lip syncing.
And the rest is history
babieS
*-CUE THE FLAMES-*
Graham Blur.
Could have come from 1967.
damon's hair omg
I am an Oasis fan, but that doesn´t mean I dislike Blur music
Are they doing playback?
yeah
Biting Inspiral Carpets' style
more like our generation and culture and how we grew up as children get a fucking clue
Suenan como de the stone roses .!!
Exacto, y Damon se mueve igual que Ian Brown. Para que luego digan quienes son los padres del brit pop.
does anyone know what gear grahams using to get the headstock shot of his guitar?, i really wanna get this shot but all the stuff i’ve seen on amazon has been massive attachments and i don’t really want a big bulky thing hanging off the end of my guitar, whatever grahams using looks quite discreet for that kind of thing
Happy Mondays
UKplay was a great channel. Sham it had to end.
@Raisin2girl On early 90s kids TV, you didn't expect anything more.
@UglyPratFace7 bands didn't play live on these kinds of shows and I doubt they'd even care to. It was aimed at kiddiewinkles.
Seymour, clearly.
(see more clearly)
@BlurryBlueOcean me too! i never found him better looking than with this hair. he should have kept it!
History)
Damon’s hair in this just makes me laugh
Hey its that dude from Gorillaz!
@Otium83
they look so ian brown.
just like oasis.
@racheeXD Thanks but I ended up finding that out thanks to wiki.
I love Damon’s ugly bowlcut
damon's hair lmaaaaoo
0:05 dave :-(
and kurt cobain copying graham coxon guitar beat "smell like teen spirit"
Wow this is very Stone Roses vibish. Back then they were just like any other britpop group.
Totally riding on baggy's coat tails.
It's either lip synced or there is music being played over it , or maybe its just me . . . Blur are great anyway, so I shouldn't complain. :D
they look so oasis!
stone roses XD
2018
Does anyone else find it ironic that they're singing There's No Other Way on a kids show?
No...?
I have too comment
This is playback right ?
Brian Jones style haircut
why are they using the studio version over a live performance?
because it's Saturday Morning kids TV in 1991. You don't bother playing live in that setting as nobody cares.
TMATMATMA yeuch!
Do you actually realistically expect band to bother playing live on kids TV? Jesus christ. UA-cam is so full of boring bastards who don't have a clue about how things used to be.
TMATMATMA double yeuch.
I'm a blur fan, that being said, the TV show producers decided this, and the bands were likely signed up by their respective record companies. Why waste people's time when there are videos that could be played instead?
As well this is a region thing. In North America getting caught doing a "live performance" with a recording playing would see you losing your career (ie Milli Vanilli, Ashley Simpson)....
there is a cultural barrier here, that is boggling my mind!
Yes, it is obvious that Americans traditionally have a forest up their collective anuses about the very idea of lip-syncing.
The difference here is that Milli never sang their own vocals AT ALL and Ashlee Simpson was caught out on a show where performers would actually perform live. You know that Blur here were on Eggs & Baker, which was kids' cookery show which went out at 8am on a Saturday morning? The average age of people watching was about 8. I'm sure the band themselves were delighted to go through the motions of miming on this occasion. It really wasn't a serious showcase for live performances. Same for Top Of The Pops (when it was good). If a band was to mime/lip-synch on The Tube, Later With Jools Holland, The White Room etc. it would be a different story. But if it's 20+ years ago and you're doing some kids TV show, really a quick mime was no scandal. Sadly UA-cam has opened up the floodgates of born-yesterday Americans who feel the need to make some kind of protest about this in comment-box form. When will it ever end?
They were slackers before Beck

QUOTE: "Cheryl Baker's early 90s pre-Going Live cookery/baggy showcase (Candyflip appeared once too), Eggs And Baker"
That is one of the funniest descriptions of anything I've ever read! Cheryl Baker (her from the cheesy pop combo Bucks Fizz) hosted a cookery show on the TV. But here it is called a 'cookery/baggy showcase'. lol.
Its seems like playback :(
Shame it's not actually live
r Cheryl
Just listen to the chords
suite
i just took in they’re literally lip syncing lmao
They're so cute... But it's playback, isn't it?
oasis fathers
Historic, but lip-synched?
