Of course opinions are subjective. I respect this list for what it is. I personally would have to say the majority of cover songs are not "better" than the originals. Covers are done because they are loved by band members (a notable exception being Quiet Riot not caring for Slade, but it gave them great success at the time) The greatest way to pay tribute to your influences is to cover what they composed. Flea would not be the player he is today, but for Jim (James) Jamerson's magnificent bass lines for so so many Motown hits. Whiskey in the Jar was a folk song cover when Thin Lizzy recorded it. Many cover songs do not have the same cultural nor societal impact as the original versions, nor can they reach the same sales numbers as we continue to move through this age of shared information. I see many people disagreeing with this list, but these same people have opinions of what they like better also...they just have never put them forth on UA-cam

The Mighty Led Zep is my ALL-TIME favourite band...I *never* knew that "Dazed and Confused" was a cover!!! Mind-blown!!!
A cover that Jimmy Paige tried to pass off as a song he'd written, despite the fact Jake Holmes wrote & copyrighted the song in 1967 & the copyright was renewed in 1995
If that's a shock to you then maybe don't look too closely at who wrote whole lotta love or stairway... those guys were straight up thieves. Good drummer though.
@@ILoveDawko yawn
@@marykazhimo5921 Sorry you're tired - maybe listen to less Led Zepp and more Enya?
@@ILoveDawko Nah thanks buddy
Where did you sleep last night - Nirvana
HaliniSnow great song but not better than the original
HaliniSnow I agree 100%, leadbelly wrote the song when you pretty much only used major chords and that sound doesn't fit with the song at all, nirvana played it the way it always should have been.
Shit, that's really good, but better? I'm not saying it's not, but I'm still debating with myself.
I love the peppers and they did a great rendition but hard to say they hit it tighter than the Wonder Man
Where's Blinded By The Light by Manfred Mann and Knocking On Heaven's Door by Guns N Roses?
Cold day in hell when Manfred Man's retched version is ever considered better than Bruce's, get serious.................
@@cosmickid1794 thank fuck, someone commented that this man was out of pocket
How could you leave out Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt? Or Led Zepplin's cover of when the levy breaks?
Both are better than the Type O Negetive or RHCP covers.
nine inch nails’ version is still better
cait 666 I respectfully disagree as they are equal. They have different meanings, emotion and represent different parts of life
What about Diamonds and Rust? Always thought Judas Priest version killed.
Other than Flea's bass, Higher Ground is Not Better by RHCP.
3to5andglassy I disagree. I love RHCP's cover. Really don't like the original much, personally.
Metallica and Thin Lizzy is an evan split. But Stevie wonder and Seals and Croft are better than the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Typo-O-Negative.
Type O negative. Not typo.....
@@JackTheripper911 typing too fast on my phone
@@stuartwilson6939 They used a terrible sample for Type-O. The album version, and the two concerts I was at were damn good.
In regards to thin lizzy and metallica I agree, both are equally good in their own way.
Those in Loudwire who did this compilation need to have their head's examined... Type O Negatives' version of Summer Breeze is no way better than Seals and Crofts version... You guys hear music, you don't listen...
I guess that lists like these should be called "xx songs played in a genre I prefer more"
sorry but Obi-WAn Kenobi is still the best when it's about higher ground
HAHAHAHA Good one bro
may the whiskey be with you
sethsalahadin that is probably the worse line in a movie ever, but that's a great reference
Ha! I get it
I’m a massive RHCP fan but no way is their version better than Steve Wonder.
As for whiskey in the jar, that was a cover already.
Judas Priest - Diamonds & Rust
‘Whiskey In The Jar’ is actually a very old Celtic song that was the Irish drinking anthem and The Dubliners covered it first, the Thin Lizzy did a cover of it, then Metallica did a cover of it, so basically Metallica did a cover of a cover
Of a cover of a cover.
Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder is a lot better than Chili Peppers.
have to agree sorry rhcp
I think Anthony has said as much, himself. Testament to how cool the guy is.
It had to be Flea's bass
Honestly there both pretty damn good.
I like Red Hot Chili Peppers version more, but Stevie wrote a damn good song!
Thin lizzy is better than metalica's version
It's Metallica, you illiterate dipshit.
No.
I’ll agree with you on that, I like Metallica but Thin Lizzy’s style is pretty unique. Just my opinion though
jerry garcia's is better than thin lizzy's... ;) metallica sux
Metallica's version is good. Thin Lizzy's is better.
Why is The Fairy Godmother's version of I Need a Hero not on here
Land of Confusion by Disturbed,Careless Whisper by Seether,No Quarter by Tool,Planet Caravan by Pantera,Team by Local H,She Bop by Gwar
Painkiller by Brides of Lucifer 🤘👌

Were the hell is "If you Have Ghosts?
EDsavant ding ding ding! Found the comment I was looking for so I wouldn't have to comment this myself.
Ghosts cover is good, but the two songs are so vastly different in every way that its pretty hard to compare. I still like Roky Eriksons version the most. Legendary.
Branch Brothers definitely true that they are hard to compare.
EDsavant. Don't give me that shit, nothing and I mean nothing will ever beat Roky Erickson's original version.
Or Bible.
I'm missing Hurt performed by Johnny Cash and one of the best and funniest cover Raining Blood by J.B.O.
Trent Reznor himself has admitted that "Hurt" is now a Johnny Cash song.
@@chiefs300 "Hurt" was originally performed by Roy Hamilton, whose version peaked at number eight on the R&B Best Seller chart and spent a total of seven weeks on the chart 1970s the
@@peterpikefisher Same song title but Roy Hamilton's was a completely different song. The "Hurt" which Johnny Cash sang was a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song off of "The Downward Spiral".
@@chiefs300 He didn't actually. What he said was that the Johnny Cash version was so different it should be considered a different song from his that just shares lyrics.
At least he didn't do "Closer".
White Lions version of Golden Earrings “Radar Love” tends to go under the radar (pun intended). It’s a phenomenal cover imo
No, the original remains superior :D
I would agree just because Vito tore it up, just a supremely sick guitar player in a shitty band.
@@WonHakWoon I'll agree Golden Earrings version is better.
Hurt? The Man Who Sold The World?
Sophia Kurt Shitty Cobain can't even carry Bowie's guitar as a stage hand.
That and as much as I hate Hurt no matter who it's by, Trent's version is better. Especially live. Nails is awesome.
Sophia plateau lake of fire
Roger Flop yeaaaah, Lake of Fire is excellent!
ComaAlpha are you gonna write that on every persons comment about the man who sold the world? Youre just repeating yourself.
Only one I agree with is Jimi Hendrix cover, even Dylan said it was better and that speaks volumes
I have to admit I love Bob Dylan but I actually didnt know All Along The Watchtower was originally from Dylan.
And Led Zeppelin too better
I Fought The Law is originally done by The Crickets.. NOT the Bobby Fuller Four
and the crickets version is better
The Clash's recorded version is better than the original. The live version Loudwire showed was vastly inferior to one that's in the 1980 film "Rude Boy
Scrolled way too far ...
I would agree with most of those but fuck no you cant say Type o Negatives version is better than Seals and Crofts lol
Oh please, quiet riot practically copied everything from the lyrics to how it was sung by Noddy Holder
I liked Slade's version better, anyway.
I first heard the originals of the songs that QR covered, and they didn't just cover them, they pretty much copied the musical singing style too.
The Oasis version is great too
So... Firstly i heared QR version in GTA Vice city. And I was totally in love... Since that it's the best from the best versions of this song for me
Lol, as I said. Slade's version was pretty much plagiarized by QR.
No way chilling peppers better than STEVIE WONDER.!!
Agreed that and summer breeze are the only ones I disagreed with.
Agree...
Right, both versions are great.
I won't say either is better, just different. Both versions are bad and have that funk soul d to it.
wildcatter63 flea is not that good. Over rated
RHCP version of "higher ground" has nothing on the original
totally....Stevie hands down always!
I do not think Quiet Riot improved over Slade. Type O Negative is just laughable.
I would say that one should fall under preformed it just as well as the original. Quiet Riot and Slade feels like a old Memorex commercial
