When Kevin plays his cello and beatboxes at the same time, it’s called celloboxing. This unique ability, that Kevin displayed in a UA-cam video, is how he was found by Scott when forming Pentatonix.

@@grandparentsreactA great example of Kevin’s celloboxing is shown in Pentatonix’s live video, Kiss From A Rose.

Papaoutai means father where are you. In this case the Pentatonix version is about a father who’s too busy for his son. In the original Stromae version it’s about a father who’s missing because he was killed in the war in Rwanda.

Yes, the song is entirely in French. Stromae, the original artist is French and it was a song about how he misses his dad, who was killed in a war in Africa ( I think), but it's certainly about a boy needing his father. None of PTX actually speaks French, so had to learn the correct pronunciation with tutors.
    Greetings from BC, Canada.

So glad you reacted to this. PTX truly are amazing. Kevin is beyond with his ability to sing, beatbox, and play Cello at the same time! Their version of the song is a bit less sad than the original, but still gets across the message that the boy just wants more attention from his father.

The song was written by Stromae (stroh-MY) and was very personal to him, as his father (who was a Rwandan doctor) was often absent from his family who were raised in Belgium. The father was murdered during the Rwandan ethnic cleansing war, and their Belgian mother hid that from the children for years. The artist has daddy issues about his father's absence from his life, not realizing that his father wasn't there for him because he was dead. It's rather tragic. His version of the song is similar to the PTX cover, but is much more ironic and bitter, because it is his story.
