I am patiently waiting for the case build. Now I do play and I have twelve guitars after I sold off six pre 1963 Fenders and four pre 1965 Gibson guitars to help my retirement fund. I still have a few Gibson 335's and a Fender Mustang but I am looking forward to building my own Guitar. I moved to Israel eight years ago after being a building contractor for thirty plus years in the USA.. I still do build and sell boats from wood so I have a lot of experience in wood working. I have tuned up a few guitars but your videos have been very informative. Thank you for the time and effort in helping the enthusiasts, young and old, like myself in knowledge of one of my most favorite hobbies, guitars and all things to do with them!
One of my favourite things about watching Ben is that he looks straight up like a 1% biker, but then he opens his mouth and he sounds like an Oxford scholar. It's such a surreal experience.
Despite being a hack guitar player for multiple decades, I know next to nothing about the actual art, science and sheer craft that goes into the creation of my chosen instrument. These series from Crimson simply blow my mind - the level of detail and precision is truly impressive. And such a small thing, but I am really amazed at how strong quality, professional wood glue actually bonds so permanently. Incredible to think about just some glue holding things together. BRILLIANT WORK BEN....! Cheers, thank you and stay safe!
That was one hell of an epic build. I just love the way your slender finger moves on the wood (no pun intended). It's really awesome to see such work of beauty all thanks to you and UA-cam.
The inside of this guitar reminds me of the ports inside a loudspeaker. If you want a challenge, I invite you to dive into the rabbit hole of speaker design to see if there is a way to place the baffles to create a particular sound
Dude it took me a very short moment to adore your thespian manner, perfectly compliments your technical repertoire sir. Thank you for making the effort to deliver such quality - I feel safe in the warm, leathery, whiskey hinted , wood smoke tinted sphere of goodness.
How the hell have I never heard of you guys? Yay for youtube recs. I love the narrator, he's explaining stuff well, and everything in the video is gorgeous. I'm 11 minutes in, and now I have to watch the rest of your stuff. Thanks, lol. Also, suscribed to keep up on it.
I've been geeking out on guitar builds lately (after a very healthy stretch engrossed in the precision world of timepieces at Watchfinder, et al. I can tell you're a fan, Ben.). Many builds in the UA-cam landscape are fascinating but perhaps in some cases, a little hastily thought out and ultimately, only 6~7.5 on the lust scale, while this guitar had me absolutely drooling (9.55!). I just love that it is padauk throughout (aside from that sweet bog oak fretboard binding). The tiered and slotted top is brilliant, as is the idea to leave the chambers open at the ends. One could hear in the final demo that this instrument has amazing resonance and killer tone. Classic and so sexy.
Dude that guitar sounded better than solid body guitars ive heard trying to start learning now hopefully i can grasp it to have a reason to collect them
I'm crying because it wasn't me but happy it went o a fellow Canadian. Ben you and your whole staff are truly AMAZING. Stay safe looking forward to the next series.. I can only wish I had your talent and artistic vision.. Take care from Grand Manan Canada
I just watched all the videos of this absolutely gorgeous piece of art. Simplicity is NOT simple at all! Thank you so much for sharing whith us all those priceless tips and tricks, and those incredibly communicative good vibes. You made my day, Ben. Literally! Hope you get well soon
Can't work with machinery for 24 hrs straight? That's ok, the machines are doing the work I'm just supervising. What you came up with was just so incredible.
I missed the entirety of the design and build process of this, and yet out of all the guitars you've made and shown off on this channel (that I've seen), this one is by far my favorite. If I ever find myself in the position of commissioning an instrument, this would be it.
Man that guy didn't seem all that excited. I would have been going bonkers if I won that guitar. Yet another masterpiece from Ben who in my opinion is one of the best builders out there.
I've been subscribed for some time now ( like many others) I work crazy hours and binge the crap out of your videos when I have the time. I do this so much my wife even knows your first name. I do this because you are the most skilled Luther I subscribe to and there are many. I watched your videos for some time before I subscribed, and subscribed after watching you break the head stock off a perfectly good acoustic to test a new wood glue that was sent to you for testing purposes. Kudo to your skill, and great personality!
Hey Ben. I definitely want to buy a 2020 mug . Would love to get the original but that’s likely pushing it ;-). Keep up the great content. Pumped about winning this beast. Looking forward to case build vid(s).
Really love this build! I just watched it for the 3rd time. Your guitars are amazing looking and sounding. This design REALLY speaks to me. I have looked at many closer to home, but the flying V with the through neck design is just amazing. The wood choice is perfect.
I was not supposed to enjoy this Ben but I did, knew you would piss mending it but never thought he'd be able to play it at the end!! I have also been repairing guitars most of my life and from time to time jobs like this crop up, weirdest one I had to repair was a sitar returning to the UK with it's hippy owner during the late sixties, upon arrival back to UK customs figured long haired bearded hippy with sitar = drugs, they then proceeded to strip search him and smash open the pumpkin of his sitar, I did manage to repair his sitar but close inspection of the pumpkin revealed it was full of not drugs but full of small worm holes, probably dead long ago but treated it anyway just in case.
Cool Beans - Congrats to Arthur, a fellow Canuck, Ben, hope this virus hasn't interrupted your school schedule to much, looking forward to the case build and other future videos, Cheers
i love the unique string tone from it, the thinner wood causes a strange resonance, would be great for a clean blues tone, or a more psychedelic rock light tone
Greetings...I was watching one of your videos.. maybe on necks or fretboards? I can't recall... actually, I think it was neck angle and your suggestion of full scale drawings to figure out neck angle... at one point you grabbed a book and I think it was taking about scale length... you didn't mention the name of the book but the page looked like it contained a graph or image with different numbers... in assuming that's a handy reference and was hoping you might share the name of that book?
This guitar is so freaking amazing. I hope to come learn how to build them whenever im able to afford it. In the meantime im just messing with some pre-made kits. Just utherly destroy them and build something awesome.
Even before i saw this video i decided im making my own custom Explorer thats gonna be covered in brass and polished to a mirror finish similar to a brass instrument like trombone or trumpet I really hope it comes out good in the end
There are a number of aspects (location and number of entries) where I could’ve conceivably been the winner - aside from never having received a phone call from Ben, nor having the name Arthur. Ah well... Congratulations! And thanks again, to Ben, for building an amazing instrument and offering it to fans.
I absolutely want/need so bad to build guitars myself. It’s the biggest passion of my life other than playing them. Great work btw I’ve been watching every video you put out, love it!
Love that guitar watched the episodes when they first aired, great job Ben. I would love to try and build one just like it. Of course, getting my hands on a piece of Padauk big enough for the neck would be hard. Additionally, if I can get my hands on the Padauk I would probably be too scared I would mess it up to actually build it.
Loved the design of this one, the way it is constructed, the simplicity of the colour palette. I'd really like to hear a demo of how it sounds acoustically and maybe for future builds, put a piezo in as well as the magnetic pickups? Looking forward to watching the case build. I hope Crimson and everyone there is doing well in these difficult times.
Awesome build and very unique, would be great to see what you did with this concept and no time crunch. Always liked the sound of a hollow body especially 355s.
This honestly looks likes a piece of modern architecture, I've never been a fan of the explorer shape, but damn this thin is magnificent. Edit: This thing is actually so beautiful I can't even .
I have been going back over previous videos to bolster my opinion that Ben is an absolute Genius and talented craftsman....With this wood selection, I keep thinking "How can he create such pieces of art out of what looks to be petrified Carrot or Sweet Potato wood??!" Astonishing. Maybe the shavings could be boiled down by Mrs. Bun as one of Ben's Lunch Soups? Bwahahahha...
I had my gear stolen. I worked hard for it and can't afford to replace it. I could b so lucky to win something. Love your videos. So wish I could visit and build my own axe. Cheers
"There is no reason.
Or excuse.
Except that I was left unsupervised."
Possibly my favorite "because I can" quote of all time.
thats the excuse i'm using from now on
Same here!
Pyromaniacs Unite!
I'm actually waiting for the case.

I see you employ people of sophisticated taste who play Monuments songs for demos.
I see you are a person of sophisticated taste who recognises said people! B
What a great design, I love the explorer reimagined as a hollow body. The word choice was stunning, such a beautiful colour
I have never really been much of a fan of that shape but make it natural and it's a whole different story! That thing is a beauty.
the amount of tlc that went into that guitar is incredible
i could watch this all day
Yes I'm impressed that is beautiful
that is probably the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen
One of the most beautiful guitars I have encountered on videos, keep up the good work.
One of my favourite things about watching Ben is that he looks straight up like a 1% biker, but then he opens his mouth and he sounds like an Oxford scholar. It's such a surreal experience.

Standing ovation for you Sir. Watched the whole thing. Hats off!

Hey ich hab mir ein paar Videos angesehen und ich muss sagen ich habe noch nie schönere Gitarren gesehen großes Kompliment 😁
This was really cool and so beautiful!!!!
I have never seen such a beautiful guitar before. Oh my dear.

Thank you.. we have many many different builds for you to check out.. I hope you enjoy the as much as I enjoyed making them. B
Im in the states and wish i could have one of those models..you did a fantastic job.

I admire the skill of people who can make something so beautiful with their own hands. I wish I could do this.
"This week on Skurge Builds" Truly epic work- can't get enough!
lol.. thank you. B
BEHOLD! MY GUITAR!
That guys is so lucky. Fellow Canadian here. Love this channel.
Absolutely beautiful guitar... And I'm not a guitarist - I'm a drummer/vocalist and now I've started my journey with bass guitar :).
Happy birthday Arthur, enjoy the guitar.
"I don't really want to send a guitar to Canada."
... noted.
I thought u make up that words....but, he says that!....haha
you need to build this guitar more and sell ! this shape is awesome!
Can't work with machinery for 24 hrs straight? That's ok, the machines are doing the work I'm just supervising. What you came up with was just so incredible.
Beautiful art piece. What a privilege it would be to play any of your guitar creations. 🤘
I missed the entirety of the design and build process of this, and yet out of all the guitars you've made and shown off on this channel (that I've seen), this one is by far my favorite. If I ever find myself in the position of commissioning an instrument, this would be it.
It makes me happy to see a guitar with a volute,
Man that guy didn't seem all that excited. I would have been going bonkers if I won that guitar. Yet another masterpiece from Ben who in my opinion is one of the best builders out there.
That's absolutely art

No words to describe this, Ben is from another world when it comes to building. Absolutely AMAZING as always!
Wow, thank you! B

Hey Ben. I definitely want to buy a 2020 mug . Would love to get the original but that’s likely pushing it ;-). Keep up the great content. Pumped about winning this beast. Looking forward to case build vid(s).
I'm pleased for you and you sound like someone who'll give this beautiful guitar a good home. I hope you enjoy playing it.
I very much love that design. AWESOME
The riff at the end is sic af
Congrats to you Arthur!

Oh bugger I didn’t win, but at least I got to hold it and have a quick strum at the Birmingham Guitar show! Bring on the next build!!

Great playing at the end that guitar looks absolutely class and sounds absolutely class

Well Arthur, congratulations you’re the proud owner of an amazing, one of a kind explorer. I’m envious😁
This guitar is so freaking amazing.
I hope to come learn how to build them whenever im able to afford it.

Awesome design and build. Color is wow!
Glad you like it, thank you. over time it will fade back to a more natural wood colour, which is sad.. but still, I do love this guitar very much
Looking forward to the case build. Congrats Arthur.

Thank you very much! We're going to be putting something similar into production soon. B
Sounds very spanky...lots of kick in the low mids...love it...the highs are rounded to, it’s has great sound 🤟🏽
Loved the design of this one, the way it is constructed, the simplicity of the colour palette. Awesome build and very unique, would be great to see what you did with this concept and no time crunch. Always liked the sound of a hollow body especially 355s.
I have been thinking of little else since I built her.. I will do another guitar in still style one day for sure. Thanks for watching! B
This was an amazing process to watch, the guitar is insane!

what a joy to watch this video ... thanks ben (and crew)
this guitar looks like the beauty and the beast, togheter!
That has put a terrifying image in my mind and I cannot forgive you for it. I'm sorry.
Dude at the end obviously a Monuments fan, I dig that.
You noticed? Lol.. he is the biggest fan! B
im not sure if having a passion for fire working in a wood shop is such a great idea :D
I like to live dangerous! Amusingly the very last thing I did in my home workshop this evening was burn something! B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars that's the spirit
Beautiful guitar.
Your build videos are so addictive. Love it! Gorgeous guitar, my friend. Fantastic work as usual!
