I knew the second I saw it that I needed it in my life.. guitar is a bit on the heavy side, but that's ok.. I couldn't bear to make the design any smaller and lose ant more wood than absolutely required. Thanks for watching. B
I slice my bookmatched tops the same way as you do. Whenever I post a video of me doing this, viewers scream about how I don't use a fence. I just smile.
Yeah, a fence is so restricting unless you have a perfectly set up saw, and who can guarantee that when there are a dozen other people about the place.. or well, just life conspiring to help you ruin a perfectly good top with a bit of blade drift! B
It’s so therapeutic watching you create art, and it’s cyclical and perpetual because that very same piece of art becomes an instrument in the hands of another artist creating yet another form of art. I’m a little late to comment here, but bro, I’m in love with this masterpiece, you made a awesome job. My challenge for you it’s making a guitar using only Brazilian woods. Keep doing the nice work bro. 🤘🏼
Holm Oak! That makes much more sense. I've been thinking this whole build that it didn't look like any Silky Oak I've ever seen. Now you need to make an actual Silky Oak build. Just be aware that there are Southern and Northern varieties and one is much heavier than the other.
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars I'd really like to see some sustainable tone wood builds. Blackwood, Camphor Laurel, Myrtle, Cedar... lots of nice woods coming out of sustainably managed forests and plantations.
If the Aussie silky oak it is grevillia robusta. Used to be grown in people's yards commonly, but as suggested by robust they outgrow house yards. Many people have severe allergic reaction to grevillias. Grain is similar.
Thank you Glenn, I am very very happy. The issues are mostly sorted and it will be coming home soon.. and off to guitar shows and the like eventually too. But that is all next year! B

Great looking guitar !! One thing I would have done differently is the grain orientation of the fretboard inlay so that more of it's grain would show and it would flow with the grain of the headstock and body . Your work is truly amazing .

So...a question (not specifically related to the silky oak build): Why do you need a neck break-angle? I watched a couple of your older vids about how to achieve the perfect break-angle without using protractors and calculations, etc, but why bother? Why can't you just have the neck parallel with the top of the body?
Good question, most guitar bridges are of two basic designs, strat type or tunematic, a strat type term or fixed bridge has saddles that are about 11mm above the body and a straight neck, or very slightly angled one using a shim is fine.. a tunematic however sits about 14mm high and needs a few more at least for adjustment, therefore you need to angle the neck back to fit the bridge of choice. B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars Hmm, I'm still not quite getting it. Even if you had a tunematic with loads of extra for adjustment, why not just cut out less of a pocket for the neck and keep it parallel to the body? I'm not suggesting it would be better, I'm just trying to figure out why you need to add an angle.
Is that Australian silky oak? Looks similar as I have about 10 150mm x 1400mm x 400mm slabs drying in my shed that I was thinking of using for a guitar.
We are not really sure.. maybe or maybe Holm Oak.. either way what you have will surely make a lively guitar is it is anything like this! Have fun with it! B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars thanks Ben, figuring is much the same though smaller with more pinks and reds. Mine is Australian Southern Silky Oak or Grevillea Robusta.
What do you have to charge for these guitars? $5,000? Don’t get me wrong, that’s a nice guitar and I’m sure it’s well worth the money. But damn bro, I’d be afraid of running out customers with the Resourses to buy one. I understand why you have a hard time making a living just building guitars. It’s obvious why you’ve had to come up with additional products to sell. You’re fortunate for the UA-cam era. I built about ten Electric guitars from scratch and a couple of kits and I came to the conclusion real quick that if I planned on making any profit, that I was going to have to buy a CNC router set up at the very least, and still I would be leery of rushing too much on the necks. I think I’d have to start a year earlier just building necks and letting the milled next sit in the desert air and by the time I started milling the bodies, the necks will have twisted all the we’re gonna twist. I would still have to take a price hit on the first 30-50 though and give them as gifts to people that I felt would further the brand. All it takes is one in the right hands and it could snowball from there.
this is without a doubt the most beautiful wood patterns grains etc i've ever seen
