I wish more Manufacturers did more purple guitars, this is super sick.
I know this comment is old, but I recently saw a Lilac G&L online somewhere. Its a nice purple look.
Also late to the party but got a nice purple epiphone les paul

hi Guitar MAX
Thanks Max!
max!!!
Do I see a new Vid for Max be Kool to see what you come up with
you need to play this guitar, Max!
the guitar in the intro song had the most high school sounding tone ive ever heard.
Wilson Crèvecœur it’s funny cause the before and after comparisons sound exactly the same
has a real half cocked wah tone
You’re an idiot then
Ridiculously bad lmao :D Yeah, nice wood job, but what was that...

Yeah best year to learn new things
When you did the splatter it broke my hearts
Haha. How many hearts do you have?

I thought it made it perfect.
I was very impressed, it looked like an ESP I thought, then boom. Value plummeted for me

Wow, that’s a great price, that thing has some sweet tone

It looks like a guitar matthew bellamy would play

That was funny
Haha a week ago I did exactly that to one of my builds. Much better to play and I can keep my beer belly!
Working out takes away from practice time.

looks fairly straight forward and looks like a lot of fun. But I fear that all that wiring will just make me want to jump out my window.
Yeah, you gotta love the wiring side of it too or else you will hate your life trying to figure out what you did wrong
if it takes more that 1 or 2 parts to fix, i take it to pat at pats' music, he's very cool ,and dosen't rape you ,he's in philadelphia, the only good thing about living in philly , unfortunatly
the wiring will make you want to jump out of the window, the first guitar you make will never be as good as any after it so your first guitar you'll pay less attention to detail in areas you should pay more in because it's the small things that make a guitar my bridge pickup is crooked which is the most frustrating thing ever because im the only one who notices but its the one thing i see but it is straightforward and alot of fun just know you will make mistakes and your first one will not be perfect so don't go for a dream guitar on your first do something simple. have fun
EMG James Hetfield set is what I'm running on my guitar and there was absolutely 0 soldering, just a plug and play, extremely rock solid. Pricey but you for sure get what you pay for
you could spend that time on improving instead haha
Looks like a high end esp
With a chapman finish
I was thinking Charvel DS series
Or a Jackson monarkh the body at least
Grayson Adams Well... for sure it’s not a Les Paul!! Nothing wrong with a bolt on neck but immediately that just makes it a guitar vaguely shaped like a Les Paul with a bolt on neck. 🤷🏼♂️
Oh... and on your “dream guitar” for $300 quality control issues like those on the binding (which were pretty obvious and significant really) are fine but smaller and easier to solve issues on the low priced $800 Gibsons are a huge issue for people?
David Burke actually Gibson and epiphone have bolt on neck les Paul’s
The les Paul shape has always been my favorite guitar shape.
Ryan Lacy Same here!
No stratocaster
When I was a teen I'd have gotten close to throwing fists over Strat vs Les Paul. These days, I'm really starting to find myself wanting a Les Paul.
Giovanni Di Marco yeah I used to find them ugly, this video changed my mind great tone and great looks, great for 400 dollars including dye and stuff
Dean ML
Recently I have just been buying bad second hand guitars on gumtree and pulling them apart instead of the diy kits because usually it costs less and usually I pay around $50-$70 (Aud) for them second hand and sometimes they have a nice finish I want to keep, but otherwise I just sand it off. Also, if they are a bit older, they are a cheep and easy way to make a guitar with a rosewood fretboard. Your vids are great thx
I wish everyone had your descriptions, thanks for the extra time you put into them, they're very helpful.
Splattering that burst was mildly infuriating.

I built a LP Jr and it is awesome. I’ve also built a 2-P90 Jazzmaster and it’s also fantastic. I would recommend to everyone - build a guitar instead of spending a $1000 at the big name guitar stores. Take your time - both my builds took about a month, but just be patient. UA-cam has everything you need to know to custom make your dream guitar.
What about getting all the tools ?
Volume Eleven this channel is your best friend for custom tools or budget tools! I followed a lot of Dan’s advice on my kit build and I couldn’t be happier with the result
That was more inspirational than my tea bag.
He makes it look easy in a 15 minute video. I've built these sort of kits for people, and I seem to always forget the amount of time it takes. The last one took me 6 weeks. I don't mind so much if I'm building it for myself however.
Where did you find a Les Paul junior kit I've been looking for one for months
You make your builds look so easy. Thanks for the inspiration.

Stumbled across your channel and I’m really impressed. Guitars and guns, two of my favorite things. Keep it up man.
I like the scratches, dings, and wear to be real, not manufactured. That way they actually tell a story. You remember that ding and where you were, how it happened. Those scratches were earned like scars in battle.
the government took our bump stocks but they'll never get my killswitch
Haha yes!!!
From my cold dead hands!👍😎🎸🎶
What bump stocks???
The ole' thumb in a belt loop is far more reliable anyhow
You see they can take a bump stock but they can not take a pole attached to a tree
Youll cycle off the gut in no time!
I say this every time, but Dan stay doin' god's work with these builds. You're the best! Purple's my favorite color so that burst is nuts.
7:40 HOW COULD YOU!!!
😱😱😱😱
RIGHT! it was looking good. even for purple.
I love watching and HEARING guitar kit builds
This guitar is right up my alley. It looks and sounds gorgeous. I want it. Favorite build I've seen you do.
In all honesty, that black splatter thingy you did made it more "custom" looking than worn out imo. Makes it unique. I like it. :) (I'm not the type of person to take risks)
Never be afraid to take risks my friend.
I thought it looked kinda like crows/ravens on dead branches
Love the splatter effect seriously considering that on a guitar that I am building now.
Thanks for the theory course link been really seriously thinking about a theory course for a while to improve my playing cheers bro
Love that color on the Flame Maple, I'm gonna have to try this on a future project. I'm currently working on a Spalted Maple top LP with my son on my channel, using Tru-oil as the finish.
The guitar looks and sounds 150% better! Love the Kill switch as well!
The tone still sucking
Cause he use a amp simulation
So every guitar will sound the same way
If it's any encouragement, I did the Gibson factory tour in Memphis and all of the guys and gals that scrape binding all day use weird personally homemade tools to scrape!
Extremely informative, I've always wanted a les paul, but I've never wanted to build my own more than this one! Yours turned out great, phenomenal video
I must say of all your modded kits guitars, this is the one I love the most
Just signed up for guitareo! I’ve wanted to learn some theory for a long time, and I really appreciate you bringing this to my attention!
Thanks for checking it out Thomas!
Absolutely gorgeous. i like to fix up guitars a bit my self. I've never used rit dye before Im pretty excited to try this.. I have a 2013 Epiphone lP Goth im going to try this on like rite now. so dope man thanks
I've got an unfinished Les Paul and have been trying to figure out what to put in it, this gave me some new ideas. Thanks!
This finish is awesome. I needed this kind of tutorial for the burst look.
scraping binding.. turn a burr on a razor blade. As cheap as it gets and simple. Dan Erlewine has a video on using razor blades. I have a binding scraper, but typically use a razor blade.
Rickenbacker also uses razors in their factory
Has anyone ever thought of running a ribbon cable instead of the back and forth? Love this guitar it looks awesome
Excellent build - the kill switch and mid boost were a great custom addons. The tips for the stain burst finish really good as well. Many Thanks
wow. I've been looking to find a good music theory course! thank you so much!
Can you do a dream SG build? In my opinion I would rather build a guitar myself and make it my own then buy one.
Honestly loved watched this video.. I’m currently working on the same les Paul style project except I bough mine without the bridge and stop tail piece holes pre drilled. I’m actually creating mine with a string thru body style, with a roller bridge, 81/85 ivory active pickups & Wilmington headstock tuners. It’s gonna be red and black based from the black widow lea Paul from Gibson. I love the videos, and keep making more! Subscribing now.
That was just about the coolest video I have seen in a long time! That thing came out awesome!! Love that color, and the original wiring job. And yeah, he had all kinds of fun with that kill switch. I admit I would have too!
great job! Very useful additions such as the mid boost, kill switch and coil tap
really nice end product, and sound! I just signed up and I hope to make 2019 one well played year.
Thanks man! I hope you learn a lot!
That guitar looks phenomenal!! Also are you still doing the headless guitar kit build?😃
Best build yet! Looks amazing, sounds amazing. You are getting very good at this stuff.
This is one of the most beautiful guitars that I have ever seen! You're a master! Excellent job! It's really a masterpiece!!!

Maybe i build my own guitar, i've been looking for a cheap one but maybe it's a better option. Loved the video.
Don Palanqueto I’d recommend it. Built an explorer guitar instead of buying used. Saved money and got a product that’s all my own! And learned a ton about my instrument in the process
@@codyschrecengost197 That sounds promising, i think that it is something to kinda be proud for. And learning some things in the proces is also a plus.
Don Palanqueto it’s worth it. You get out what you put in. Put in the energy, research and time into making a quality instrument and that’s what you’ll get.
@@codyschrecengost197 I think it's a great idea, i will do some research and check my budget before ordering the kit, but there is a pretty good chance i do and building the guitar with my dad sounds incredible.
But the pickups worry me, do you think they are good?
Don Palanqueto that’s another thing I would recommend. Get new electronics for sure. I upgraded the pots and switches on mine as well as put Seymour Duncan pickups in. I never actually used the kit pickups so I’m not sure what quality they are. I went into my build with a plan in my head of how I wanted it to look and what I wanted in it. And white Seymour Duncan’s were always on my shopping list. That’s what I mean when I say take your time and do your research. You’re basically making your own signature model guitar. You can make it look and sound literally however you want it to. So figure out what you love as far as sound goes and find the best deals to find that sound. That’s what I would recommend
From all the build u've done (watch a lot of your guitar build) this one is the best and beast !
Love it man, since i'm looking for a LP shape guitar
Wow, nice work! I love my Epi LP Pro in vintage sunburst, which I've been making some upgrades to. But I could definitely see myself doing a project like this someday, using this video as a guide. Well done.
You should try building replicas from famous guitarists. For example:The frankenstrat.
I think you would be really good at it!
Hi Dan, just finished my first guitar and it turned out amazing (the guys at my local guitarshop couldn‘t believe I made it on my own...). The whole colouring and fretwork I did the Dan Thomson Way that you showed here and it worked absolutely perfekt. Thank you so much for the inspiration your videos gave me! The lord bless you and your family!
Thanks for sharing that story Emanuel! That means the world to me. Glad I could inspire you! God bless
That finish is awesome especially with the splatter, i was thinking of buying a guitar now I might just build one
Thanks. Excellent quick build tutorial and nice link to the theory tips. Take care.
Dan,
Awesome video as always. I was curious on how you sealed the stain. I don't beleive yout mentioned it in your video. Thanks.
Could you try doing an sg build sometime? I've always wanted to do one but I want to see someone do it first... to get some pointers.
Would love to see a take on the zappa sg..
It turned out great! Love your channel. Guns and Guitars are two of my favorite things!
this is one of the best looking and sounding build kit guitars iv seen well done great job
When you did the splatter over that beautiful burst I just about hunted u down lol. Love the videos tho keep it up👍🏻
Question for you. The Rickenbacker 325 guitar was what John Lennon used in the early Beatles music. Trying to get one either requires a lot of money or getting what’s been called a Chinese Rickenbacker or Chickenbacker. The Chinese version I have heard on UA-cam seems to have a various attempts of quality.
So my evil thought for you is this. Have you ever thought about doing a clone of a 325 by using a Stratocaster body, Rickenbacker pickups, and a short scale neck using Pyramid Strings. Plus also doing the same wiring as the original one had. That would give those who would like to have similar to a Rickenbacker scale wise and possibly similar tone due to the Toaster pickups. It would be very unique guitar too. :)
Love your videos and would love to see you do a gun video using an m1 carbine to test.
Just stumbled on your channel and I'm glad I did! Enjoyed the build. Guns and guitars for life 🤘🤘
This video inspired me to build a Les Paul with the exact finish (minus the splatter) I have my build on my channel, thanks Dan! I always come back and rewatch this, Great video.
So Bad Asszzz!!! Looks great, sounds Terrific...
An LP for $300? Count me in!
Basically you might as well buy an epiphone LP and put Seymour Duncan’s in.
Get schecter solo
$300 if you have $10,000 worth of equipment to work with it.
@@iored He didn't use that amount worth of tools in the video...
Charlie Foster that absolutely will not turn an epi into a LP. Change all Chinese electronics and put good pickups in it not necessarily Duncan’s. They are over priced. GFS makes a bunch of pups as good. Check out GFS ON UA-cam. Lots of comparisons between the two brands and it shows that you can get a terrific set of humbuckers for $75.
That was fun.... thanks for your great energy and cool axes.... Bravo!
Beautiful build! That thing looks gorgeous!
tbh those pickups sound actually pretty good clean. They totally killing it with some destortion tho
FynnFTW I think I’m gonna build one with a more blue burst finish
Couldn’t you just tape off the binding? Sure, it’d be tedious to apply, but at least you would have to worry about chip out.
I was just asking myself this question and was hoping someone else had asked it, and had been answered... No luck.
the stain/dye typically gets under the tape Gibson actually tapes off their binding but they still have to scrape it on each and every guitar.
@@derickweller5715 stain is kinda more liquidy than paint so it gores into the tape
@@alexfletcher8465 that's basically what I said and Gibson uses nitrocellulose lacquer not paint and I was saying it helps but you need to still scrape it.
Derick Weller aha
This thing is insane! Watching again for all the tonal options. You are a wiring fiend!
TBH I just loved everything in this vid from DIY to Guitar playing and that belly spacing for the guitar. so much fun.
I just got my kit from the fretwire, I’m doing a similar build, but I’m just doing basic les Paul wiring with the kill switch, no coil split or anything, in the future i might change things tho, I also got the kit that has a set neck and splayed maple, but the body has seemingly multiple grain directions? I was wondering if I should sand along the tigerstriping or the main dark spalted grain
You are so amezing this guitar looks and sund so good, im biling a guitar and i becuse of you.
Your vidios are great and you all ways find ways to give as discaunts on staf.
Thanks for the lesson, I really like your use of the Rit dye and Tung oil.
Awesome! I love the purple an black theme. I never would have thought to use Rit dye on a guitar. The shotgun shell knobs are a a neat idea too.
Please do an explorer build!!
make a brian may red special (aka, the fireplace or the old lady) as a future video project
Awesome review, dan😎🤘🏻🎸 I’ve purchased a bass kit from Amazon a few months ago and your tutorial on using rit dye paint on the body has been really helpful. Especially since my brother recommended rit dye paint for that.
I just started watching your UA-cam channel. Awesome build, I'm binge watching all your builds.
I can’t tell if I like the splatter or not, my brain is fighting itself
I've never built a guitar before, but I've been wood working for a number of years...I am much better st woodworking than I am at playing guitar. Anyway, as someone who knows woodworking well, you did one HELL of a job on that guitar!
the finish on this thing is absolutely beautiful!!
Use a retractable utility knife for the binding, make sure the knife has a thumbwheel for adjustments and not the regular notch based system, i work beautifully for scraping the binding
Could you do a Custom 24 style build?
Looks like an ESP eclipse and sounds almost like (or even better than) one. One of your best works without a dobut.
I thought the same thing about the eclipse! Except I heard the tone he demonstrated in high gain setting as flat. missing bottom end and clarity, almost too round. That's me though, I'm.a.snob so take my opinion w/ a heavy grain of salt lol
It sounds whack
Robert harling I’m pretty sure that was the amp
Are you serious? I guess it's the plugin he used that sounds like shit. His di signal sounds great
Cool build. Reminds me of the Epi Les Paul Black Beauty I modded somewhat like this. I put a Pearly Gates in the neck and a JB in the bridge. It had the four knobs on the bottom and I changed out the two tone knobs for push-pull pots to split each of the humbuckers to single coil. Man, I wish I still had that guitar. It had to be one of the nicest I ever had.
This is probably your best work yet. Good Job
When I clicked on this video I didn't know you literally meant BUILD a Les Paul lmfao
How much would u charge to do this for someone who doesn’t have that much experience. Could u do a cherry burst on it and would $150 be good

Why would you put the killswitch next to the thing that already does the same effect? I would’ve put it in a more accessible spot
Creme Jockey he wired in the killswitch because the pickups didn't have separate volume controls, the guitar had only master volume and tone dials, and he used those other routed holes to put in coil tapping switches
@@JahMeanXBeezy why not use a push pull pot
