What did you buy to replace it? And in your opinion, is the 997 the best driver's car you've ever driven? You know many people out there say that a 997 carrera is more fun than a 997 or 991 gt3 in the real world. Great flat six wailing sound btw.
Nice. I have a 997.2 3.6 and am looking for affordable exhaust but would like a bit of power. In your opinion do you feel the center bypass on the butt dyno? Also, which pipe did you go with? (sharkwerks, AWE, etc) Thanks!
I can't say that there is a noticeble increase of power. Maybe some in the higher revs. I did it just to get a more maskulin sound and i was very satisfyed:) I bought a used original system and had it modified. It's "home made" but you need the proper equipment to weld stainless steel. If you wan't more power i think it's better to put some extra money in an S or even a turbo. I sold mine and bought a car with less power;-) Regards Jonas
Robert Smith Hi,IMS was not replaced on this car.My plan was to replace it at the same time as replacing the clutch. However I sold the car before that.
Gabriel LLaurado The only modification I did was a so called ”bypass” with the exhaustsystem to get a nicer sound! My gearbox was very smoth and exact but sensitive if i didn’t push the clutchpedal all the way down to the floor! I sold the car a couple of years ago and went back to a classic Mercedes SL but I miss the Porsche when I want to have some action ;-)
Oh! Missing the 997! :) . The sound of your gear shifting is just so smooth... On mine I really have to push the clutch pedal all the way. What year was yours? Can you provide a bit more info on the bypass method for the exhaust? Is it good/bad for the car overall in terms of messing up anything?
@@GabrielLLaurado It was a 2005 3.6lit. I bought a used system that I had modified at a mechanical workshop. It´s a bit hard to weld because it´s some kind of stainless steel. However it works similar to the sport system but you don´t have the valves to put it in silent mode.In other words it does not affect more than the sound! I will see if i can load up a picture of the bypass or I could send it directly to you if I had your Email!

What about the IMS bearing for this mode (m97 engine), have you replaced it or not

997.1 after 2006 its a non issue with the larger bearing. The failure rate is less than 2%
2% isn't a non-issue - where did you get that 2% statistic from?
