Hello my friend! Thank the the fabulous content . I watching your channel here in Los Angeles California! I finally purchased the car of my dreams. A 2006 997.1 Cab. Some say don’t let it idle no more than 1-2 minutes. Others say start it and drive . Then I heard you can idle it until it meet its temperature. What do recommend? It s kind of confusing. Thank you and keep up the great work !
Hey Dave, very pleased to hear you took the plunge and bought the car. Thank you for watching the channel. Re warm up; just drive the car and not more than 4K rpm until temperatures are optimum. They certainly don’t need to stand around during idle for warm up. Hope it helps.
I have owned a 997 C2S Cabrio manual for 16 years now. It has only 28k km on the clock. My brother bought now a 992 targa GTS brand new. The new one is truly gorgeous and insane fast, but the old one still has incredible charm. I love driving both around :)))

Otherwise the car is an absolute gem to drive for all the reasons listed. After the 997, the 911 platform really does start to get too big. My Lisboa, Portugal, friend allowed me to test drive his 2006 997 Carrera 4S. I could not get over how quickly we reached 90mph (144kph) from a standstill. I just stepped on the gas and didn't "floor it." I have a greater appreciation for people who desire to purchase this vehicle. Just my 1967 Mustang, no room in the back seat for adults, only kids
I had a couple of 997s years ago and liked them both. I did prefer the 3.6 as it did not have PASM, which to me was either too soft in high speed bends, or too stiff in sport. I like the power in the 3.8 but the IMSB (non-replaceable for all but the very early 997s) and the bore scoring issue now make these cars a non starter for me. I would get a 996, do the IMSB and enjoy it.
Really well done video. It gives someone, who hasn't driven one, a glimpse into what you can experience if you're aware and using all your senses. Truly a magnificent work of art.
I honestly need to do a video chat on the 997.1 bore scoring issue. It’s a common theme now that they are getting even older and people not maintaining particularly not replacing the coolant pipes and keeping up with with the maintenance which puts strain on the engine even more

Very well said! I have driven every 911 generation and most trim levels (I work for a Porsche specialist), and still think my 997.1 C2S is special! 100% agree sound is more soulful than the 997.2. My favorite pure driving 911 driving experiences still are the 964 RS for air cooled cars and 997 GT3 RS 4.0 for water cooled, but you can’t live in those every day like a 997 C2S!

Plus the pdk is meant to be good on the .2 but triptonic not so good on .1 so most will probably go for the manual. Are these ever going to go below the price they are now or will they all just rise ?
I totally agree. There is just something about the 997.1 The engine sounds great. Nothing like it. For me though the suspension is so firm-maybe I am just getting on a bit.
Although the GT3 is my dream car, starting to look at this as an entry point as it's somewhat affordable compared to the GT3, what do you think of the 997.2 with the PDK, I am a fan of dct gearboxes, so .2 makes sense to me as am entry point

@@arbenbizati3013 they should be allowed as it does not cause issues regarding emissions. Most good welders can do the modification for you. Google Gundo Hack, it is basically welding a 1.5"-2" pipe connecting the 2 pipes of the muffler. It creates a beautiful sound

I do have a question: a friend of mine installed a cold air intake in his, is it really worth it? Any pros and cons? Thank you!
Thank you for the advice! I may indeed just let it be and keep the original intake. Also, I had a new stereo put-in, which didn't fix the problem I have always had with the fiber optic loop: when starting the car, I get a very loud noice going all around, from one speaker to the next. It can be fixed temporarily by turning off and on the ignition several times until the stereo starts playing music. After that original start, the stereo works properly all day, even if I make several stops during the day. Have you ever experienced such problem? Any idea how to fix it? The people who installed the radio said they could perhaps bi-pass the loop...? I'm concerned they may create more problems. Any thoughts? @@invictusporsche
@@invictusporsche thank you. I have this infamous bore scoring. Two clear and clean lines. Mechanic said it’s ok but every 10k KM now I need To do the oil change and monitor now each time with the camera the progression of the bore score.
great cars and I love them. An american such as myself would love them even more with a v8 or v10 or v12 twin-turbo option I understand they know what they are doing but I LOVE THE V8 POWER SOUND ETC.
Love my guards red with aerokit 997.1 C2S. Even think I might have a couple short clips of it on my channel. People ask me all the time if it is new, lol.
The aero kit is so beautiful, hope you don’t get any major issues with the car. It must be in stunning condition if people ask that. How long have you had it?
I've got the exactly same spec'd out one but Porsche Cayman S 987.1 version (manual of course). The finishing and everything is identical to your specs which include those sports seats plus, Sports Cronos pkg, PASM and Sports wheel. I consider these options to almost mandatory but sadly, it's not the case when ordered. You can find these specs more on 911 but not Caymans cause they're considered the poor man's version. However, for some unknown reason, my previous original owner spec'd it out to $88k Canadian in 2006. Which is like 911 pricing. The only complaint I have is mine has 59,000kms and if I keep driving it daily, it'll accelerate the depreciation. So I've put it into storage but I miss my drive like an old girlfriend. I do insure the car when I have something to do on the Porsche and start up the engine regularly. You are so right when you step on the throttle, even at neutral, I could feel the back of the car press down with it. No other car like it.
That’s a pretty unique cayman you have. The balance on the cayman is ready good, honestly do not worry about depreciation as you’re going to see much more value from driving your car rather than sitting like a queen in a garage. How long have you owned your car?
@@invictusporsche I picked it up in Sept 2022. Used it as my daily for a year, it’s in storage mode now. There’s a huge price gap between a low milage S (59,000 kms) like mine @ $40k CDN and a high milage (over 100,000 kms) @ $30k CDN. My suspicion is when it gets to over 100k kms, it tends to suffer from bore scoring. So I’ve put the brakes on the depreciation and danger of bore scoring. As time goes on, there will be less 987.1 cause most owners won’t rebuild the engine. It’s estimated to be about $30,000 CDN.
@@mrenigma6274 As I’ve said, I used it as my daily for a year already. Enjoyed all 10,000kms. I closely manage the car, start it up and idle until optimal temp. If I have something to do with the car, I’ll insure it for the day.
Don’t forget the sticky buttons you get with 997.1 it’s always objective but 997.2 is more comfortable, better built, higher quality interior finishes and more reliable without the overhyped bearing issues ... just my personal opinion having owned both
Your option is not far from the truth but a lot of people prefer the engine noise from the 997.1. Also they are considerably cheaper compared to Gen 2. What do you drive?
@@invictusporsche I’ve been driving the Boxster S 987.1 for the last 3 years in the US - a dream. It has the sports chrono and I find it totally not useful as it doesn’t even tell the time. Further, the fact that the design is very “rounded” / curvy around the gauge itself dates the car quite a bit compared to a clean dashboard without Sports Chrono. Further, I really enjoy driving but I’m not a pilot so I can’t really benefit from it. I can see how it makes sense for PDK cars for instance, where it changes the behavior ofthe ‘box (I think?), but for manual cars, a clean dashboard is definitely my preference.
@@kazzz6666 Sports Chrono is not just the useless clock. It changes the response of the accelerator and sharpens up the suspension in both Manual and Tip.

I know this 997.1 carrera s could match the bmw m3 v8 in a sprint because I was in it and the experienced driver that driven it challenged the 911 and could not beat it.
Hi non direct infection is a closer relative to carburettor smoother and progressive power delivery less complicated easier to service six injectors is over complicated along with two gearboxes and two clutches which will devalue quicker
@@invictusporsche Evening! I own the last model with two 9’s and a 6 in its name. 😜 I’d urge anyone looking at a 997 to buy a DFi post ‘09 car. It just takes all the guesswork and worry out of the equation, compared to the cars with the chocolate M97s. 👍🏻
Because of the insufficient oil system, the engine will explode if tracked sooner or later. Regardless, bore scoring is imminent. Although significantly more expensive, dot 2 is a way more sensible choice if you like to drive on a track.

Although the GT3 is my dream car, starting to look at this as an entry point as it's somewhat affordable compared to the GT3, what do you think of the 997.2 with the PDK, I am a fan of dct gearboxes, so .2 makes sense to me as am entry point
Congrats Basheer. Hi everyone. I just bought one 997.1 GEN1. The car has no exhaust with flap control and i am thinking about changing the exhaust system. what are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks and have a good time.
Hi mate, congrats on your car. Have you considered doing a gundo hack?
@@invictusporsche Hi mate, I dont now if they are allowed in Switzerland. Where can I by them? How much thay cost? Warm regard
@@arbenbizati3013 they should be allowed as it does not cause issues regarding emissions. Most good welders can do the modification for you. Google Gundo Hack, it is basically welding a 1.5"-2" pipe connecting the 2 pipes of the muffler. It creates a beautiful sound
Great video, actually I can see the emotions from your face whole time. Love it haha !
Thank you mate
I couldn't agree more! I feel that you and I are in love with the same car. I own a 2006 CS, 6 speed manual. Most fun car I've ever owned. Mine is red guard and has 110 K miles, and you'd never guess it. A real head turner and a car with a soul! I think when the motor dies, I'll just put a new one in.
I do have a question: a friend of mine installed a cold air intake in his, is it really worth it? Any pros and cons? Thank you!
The more you drive it the better. The cold air intake will make a tiny difference and I would keep it stock if I was you.
I have a 997.1 manual. 130K KM, any advice what to watch out for? Still haven’t changed the clutch.
Just change the oil regularly, don’t worry about the clutch unless issues engaging etc
@@invictusporsche thank you. I have this infamous bore scoring. Two clear and clean lines. Mechanic said it’s ok but every 10k KM now I need
To do the oil change and monitor now each time with the camera the progression of the bore score.
997, is so beautiful to drive.
It is indeed :)
great cars and I love them. An american such as myself would love them even more with a v8 or v10 or v12 twin-turbo option I understand they know what they are doing but I LOVE THE V8 POWER SOUND ETC.
People hardly ever do a conversion but a v8 would be amazing
Love my guards red with aerokit 997.1 C2S. Even think I might have a couple short clips of it on my channel. People ask me all the time if it is new, lol.
The aero kit is so beautiful, hope you don’t get any major issues with the car. It must be in stunning condition if people ask that. How long have you had it?
Does it have aftermarket exhaust ?
The car is sold now but I’m sure it was stock from factory
@@josephlim8941yours is relatively low miles for the year. Do some trips in it and you will have great memories with it
@@mrenigma6274 As I’ve said, I used it as my daily for a year already. Enjoyed all 10,000kms. I closely manage the car, start it up and idle until optimal temp. If I have something to do with the car, I’ll insure it for the day.
what year was the porsche in this video?
Hi, it is a 2007 model
Great Video , thanks.
Thank you. Appreciate the comment ❤️
What a beautiful spec…. Especially without the sport chrono
Thank you, Glad to hear you like it. How comes you prefer it without Chrono?
Interesting, Sport Chrono is a brilliant option in my opinion.
I’m currently trying to sell my 997 Carrera s . Anyone know any good forums etc she’s on autotrader but no luck as yet. Had it valued and definitely advertising 1/2k less that I was told. 05, 30,000miles.
Stunning car. Again any advice?
How much?
For me the 997.2 is the one:).
I know this 997.1 carrera s could match the bmw m3 v8 in a sprint because I was in it and the experienced driver that driven it challenged the 911 and could not beat it.
What do u think if a 997.1 that has 158k miles for $17k
Buy it
Or lead it to me lol
You can’t go wrong, if you do and end up rebuilding the engine you still got a cracking value
Was waiting the whole video to hear that M97 sing, didn't happen 😢
We can hopefully make it sing on the next video
So why don't people keep there porsche long I'm look at 2020 carrera s most with 3 owners
That’s a good question. Maybe they jump to other generation of 911.
So you prefer indirect injection… right.
Man-you-al transmission
Man-wel transmission ...
Haha love it
4 tailpipes on a 911 look asinine. Other than that the 997 is brilliant. Would go 3.6 instead of 3.8 though, much smaller risk of engine failure.
I like the look of the exhaust but the base will suit you more
"Sports exhaust"? Sounds like a Corolla. Porsche. Operating on the "it's a sin to let a sucker keep his money" principle for decades.
It's 3.8l. I think I hear you say 2.8. Not sure how non direct injection could make the throttle feel better
No he did say 3.8, just rewind
Hi non direct infection is a closer relative to carburettor smoother and progressive power delivery less complicated easier to service six injectors is over complicated along with two gearboxes and two clutches which will devalue quicker
The centre console is so ugly that it is a deal breaker for me.
It can be repainted or changed. Not a difficult job
NICE
Thank you Gee. What do you drive?
@@invictusporsche not a Porsche unfortunately. I have a black Mazda 6 touring. It's lovely tbh
Lost me at your specification is a sunroof 🤣

I know all 911s are the last of something, but “the last of the non-DFi engines” is very, very weak “last of” argument. 🤔
Thanks for the feedback. Which 911 do you have?

Evening!

Yes but nothing like the scale of m97/m97s. Nowhere near.

Ticka Ticka Time bomb tra la la. Couldnt agree with you any less. Gen 2 car is simply superior in every respect. For one you get a nights sleep!!
Because of the insufficient oil system, the engine will explode if tracked sooner or later. Regardless, bore scoring is imminent. Although significantly more expensive, dot 2 is a way more sensible choice if you like to drive on a track.
It's great, but my 997.2 Carerra S is better lol
Have you made any mods to it?
@@invictusporsche just tinted the windows and that's it
You have a more reliable motor for sure. Some argue the DFI mutes the sweet song of the flat six to some degree.
@@coreyegan6751 That is certainly true regarding the DFI engine being more muted compared to the gen 1.
@@invictusporsche Nobody really talks about the carbon build up on DFI engines! was only ever done for emissions spec, not good long term, great vid btw!.
