The way he explained the biases is soooo true and damn near all mma fans don't realize it.. You can't judge a fight unless you mute the crowd and commentators.. Once you do that Ull see a totally different fight

Craig was right that damage trumps control I agree but those little punches to Islams face didn’t do that much damage. Say they did do damage islam was throwing them at alexes face as well
I just believe that the judging should be intellectual enough to understand when a person is stalling, when they're working for a better position and when they're looking for finishes... Randy couture's entire career consisted of holding people up against a cage and lightly popping them. I appreciate that. No one could stop him from doing it for a long time, but it was still boring.
If it did damage Islam would have not stayed in that position. So people who are saying volk is doing damage are stupid.
@@rhumandlove393 body triangle is still a dominant position who was really stalling Islam trying to stay in that dominant position or Alex who was not really trying to get out of the body triangle. if there was no rounds, you don't want to get stuck in the body triangle. so my question is if you say Islam was stalling so was Volk
@@rhumandlove393 Sure but Islam was winning on the feet in the 1st 2 mins of that 4th round. Ignoring the control time, u have to appreciate the striking, takedown and then body lock triangle. Those lil punches will not equal all that.

i understand why people think volk won, islam didn't smash volk like islam does all of this other opponents. but if you watch the fight objectively, sound off, islam won the fight. i do think volk should keep his #1 p4p spot and i really hope theres a rematch in the future, but i see islam winning the rematch decisively this time. he knows what to expect next time.
Every time Alex got a significant hit on Islam, the crowd went wild but every time Islam got a significant hit on Alex the crowd was fairly quiet. I think this contributed to the bias in favor of Alex if you're watching at home.
I'll tell you why I think Islam lost and not why Volk "won". I think he lost because he spent a round hold back which is a "dominant position" but he didn't do anything but get hit from that position. Effective grappling is not getting back and sitting for 5 minutes. Effective grappling is getting in a position where you are attempting a submission and are actively contributing to attempting to end the fight with a finish. For example getting a kimura arm lock and trying to finish. Holding back position is not effective grappling. That is stalling. Even worse is getting hit while you're just holding position which is almost an unthinkable outcome. Under the unified rules of mma all things being equal is the only time control becomes relevant. Volk was for sure striking from his back. This gives him priority over just holding back control for that round.
But we all agree on one thing if in the last round volk had another minute he would ko islam
@@brandon.mart00 Dominant positions such as a back take or mount are scored highly inherently. Volk's small punches don't rack up significant strikes and thus only contribute to cumulative damage, which is basically the same thing as arguing control time would win a round. Fact is there's a big difference between a back take and holding someone against a fence, and judges have to recognize this, it's not simple control time.
In the end the cards look like this:
Volk has cumulative striking advantage
Islam has effective grappling advantage
Islam has control time advantage
Barely any action on the feet so no real advantage there.

@@phosphenexx3288 but those who do have a Rugby League background (a little-known sport globally) all seem to race up the rankings in the UFC. Volkanovski, Whittaker, Tuivasa, Della-Maddalena, is just the beginning of what is coming. K1 kickboxing champion and Pride legend Mark Hunt was also rugby league.

There's certainly the crowd factor. Since the match was in australia, it was mostly volk fans, and so every time volk hit Islam the crowd went wild meanwhile when Islam landed some good shots the crowd didn't react that much. That's why a lot of people initially watching the fight thought volk had won because the crowd noise whenever he did something good made it seem like he was on fire. I think Islam won because of more significant strikes and damage and the takedowns contributing to more overall pressure.
Volk out struck him and landed more damage. Islam had 7 minutes of control time with zero submission attempts. Just clinging on and clock watching.
Davi Ramos and the other Brazil guy were like adcc and bjj worlds guys.

The first 2 mins had Islam winning on the feet, then the takedown, then the body lock triangle, the most dominant position, a position Volk didn't dare try escaping from incase it leads to a sub. A few piddy paddy punches from Volk won't equal all that.

the thing is, he cut 12 pounds in last 24 hours before weigh in... that's quite a lot compared to the norm... on top of that in Australia he got 12 hour shorter rehydration time...
yes islam looked sharp still, due to his conditioning... but he did gas and looked physically a bit weaker, he seemed much stronger in the oliveira fight... (even in the context of early rounds)

After rewatching the fight, several times. I came to the conclusion that none of the two did enough to win. In my opinion, it should've been a draw. I think the rematch will be won by Islam, tho. I think he had a really bad "night" that day.

@@sstech5410 you guys need to read in the unified rules of MMA how this stuff works. Nowhere in the ruleset does it stipulate that you have to do extra to win a 10-9 round for example against the champion.
That’s not how draws are determined. There needs to be a 10-8 round for a draw to be possible

I think there's a legit argument that it could have been a draw.
Islam really showcased he is a true lightweight champion and he will never get the respect he deserves. Islam is like a tank he can’t be beat. Volk is his nemesis but he still fell short at his home with Aussie judges. That’s impressive. Volk is a dog too he gave islam a fight but couldn’t land any clean strikes. Not really anything for volk stunned islam that bad.
I dont know man. How is it possible that someone who submitted charles oliverea, a bjj blackbelt, lightweight champion, in a few rounds, could not do so to volk despite multiple takedowns. A featherweight. A featherweight he outweighed by 10 lbs or more. A featherweight who has never fought at 155. A featherweight who isn't even a grappler really. Im sorry but volk seems far more impressive considering the amount of disadvantages he had. Islam is a champion. But i feel like volk is on another level.
