There's a great scene in one of the TV episodes where he's in the bathtub eating pickled onions out of a jar and spills them into the water. He then takes them out and puts them back into the jar. The show could also be very dark when it wanted to be and that's what made it stand out.
Doesn't the woman living opposite see him and scream causing him to stand up and hold the packet over his bits? As i recall he's also still wearing his socks!
@trevorbrown6654 That was one of my favourite scenes too. I remember he's eating some of the onions as he's picking them out of that old tin bath when Harold walks in. Needless to say upon finding out what's happened Harold called him " You Dirty Old Man". One of my all time favourite comedy shows.
@@ginnybloomer5132 You don't see rag and bone men anymore. I remember they still existed when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s , although they drove vans by that point and rang a bell ringing a bell shouting "old iron and lead" by that point. I haven't seen them since then though even though they were the original recyclers.
I met Wilfrid Bramble in a restaurant in London in the early 70s. Was with my mum and dad having lunch and he was sitting alone on the next table. My dad being a Steptoe fan recognised him and we asked if we could have his autograph. I remember when he spoke being very surprised that he was very well spoken and nothing like Steptoe. I still have his autograph written on the back of the restaurant card! He was a true gentleman.
The 1970's was a golden age for us with comedies.Steptoe & Son, Rising Damp,Porridge, On The Buses and many more.Steptoev& Son was top of the pile for me.Wilfred Brambell and Harry H Corbett were brilliant. Thanks for video, it must of been very cold I would of wrapped up with heavier clothes,I really feel the cold! 😀
There is just nothing as good as Steptoe and Son on TV these days, and we definitely don't have the actors, they really aren't of the same quality, neither are the script writers !
Wilfrid's funeral apparently was very sad, only a handful of people attended including Harry H Corbett's wife, the writers of Steptoe and Son, his supposed partner and a BBC rep - so sad for a face whom was a mainstay of comedy on TV through the 60's and 70's. RIP Mr. Brambell
Loved Steptoe and Son. I believe, though can't confirm that it was filmed opposite the BBC studios at White City, London. Always called a dirty old man. In A Hard Days Night in the The train carriege they used to say " who's that little old man, oh its Paul's grandfather, he's very clean isn't he, oh yes, he's very clean ". I was 12 in 64, great memories. Thanks Paul.
One of my favourite comedies of all time. Timeless humour that I still enjoy to this day. Both Wilfred & Harry will remain fondly remembered by a whole generation for more years to come.
Many episodes of Steptoe and Son featured just the two of them; no supporting cast at all. I think that was unusual for situation comedies then, and now. I think the show was one of those rare occasions where everyone and everything "clicked". Two very talented actors and a fantastic writing team.
How sad there’s no plaque. A man who brought so much laughter to so many should be commemorated some how. I loved Albert as a kid, always felt sorry for him, especially when he spoke in that little pathetic old man voice. Pickled onions!
The plaques are usually removed if there is nobody to carry on paying for them, they get stored in the caretakers hut. We found this out when I went to the where my mum's ashes were buried and we couldn't find her. The ashes remain but the plaques are removed and the spot is reused. (I now live in Australia and so the cemetery caretakers could not contact me when the money was due). It did not bother me too much as you don't need plaques and headstones etc to remember someone. We scattered my dad's ashes so we would not have the same problem.
@@janetpendlebury6808 we have to pay every 12 years for our in laws plaque to stay in place. Once we’re gone, there will be no one to pay, so that will be removed. Everyone is different, but I personally think it is sad when it happens. Doesn’t bother me for myself in the future though!

Steptoe abd son was such an interesting snapshot of a particular time in England. It spoke to the hardships endured by people in the first half of the 20th century. An extraordinary show.
When I was a little kid, I remember my Mum nearly fell off her chair in laughter when old man Steptoe frightened the Vicar, when he climbed out the coffin. Comedy at it's best 💯. This was a great video Paul 👍

I love steptoe and son, it's pure comedy genius. I loved the episode when he was using a set of false teeth to make the pattern on the side of the pie he was making lol.
Well made, - I believe from my dad that Bramble was a cultured man , I think he’d met him, it was one of my dad’s very favourite shows, - nothing like his TV character while Corbett was something of a rough diamond, up for a scrap, their show added a unique perspective into London life, how tough it really was, I did find the show funny but a bit grating, - the hawking and spitting niggled a bit, but that’s just me. - The call “Harold” is one of the calls I’ll never forget and still use it now.

I laughed so hard watching that scene when Steptoe opened the coffin and everyone screamed and fainted, that I couldn't catch my breath. Another of my favourites is Rising Damp. Leonard Rossiter was just brilliant as the rest of the cast. Classic. They are just classic. May they all RIP. Thank you, Paul, for sharing this one. Great start for the New Year. Well done. I enjoy watching your videos and especially like to see the different cemeteries around the country. Such a shame his resting place didn't have a headstone or plaque with some nice words on it after all the the wonderful joy he had brought to the world one of my favourite actors from the 70's along side harry h Corbett and will be be forever missed as one of the greatest sitcoms of their time and in my view such a joy to watch and they don't make them to that high standard any more watch them all the time on dvd even though know the lines off by heart but still one of my favourites and will never be beaten and are sorely missed such great talent, the like we'll never see again ❤❤😂😂

Fascinating to watch. That is the very cemetery that the majority of my family are buried in, so I have been going there to visit various family graves all my life!
Back in the day, we had 3 channels, full of quality programmes. Now you have 200 channels, full of repeats & garbage. Oh, happy days.
I’m still mentally scarred by the vision of the old man Steptoe having a bath in the kitchen sink scrubbing himself with Vim. In one of his films.🤣😂
There's a great scene in one of the TV episodes where he's in the bathtub eating pickled onions out of a jar and spills them into the water. He then takes them out and puts them back into the jar. The show could also be very dark when it wanted to be and that's what made it stand out.

Another great comedy legend Paul.. I loved steptoe and son used to watch it with my dad..you couldn't believe at the time that he and harry h Corbett never really got on..😮.he was funny in holiday on the buses..Another classic..nice tribute again mate hammergazz
Great Actor ...Lovey tribute Paul
Step toe was great part of my growing up , I’m sad that he didn’t have something like a plaque to register his involvement to comedy , just show how cold life can be , ide like to be remembered when gone , and I’m nothing to this guy But he made many laugh , he deserves more , thank for sharing this ,😔
I am glad to see you back I!just love your videos thank you for shareing
Best comedy era,i laughed when everyone is looking at him in the ⚰️. 😊
Aww brilliant can’t wait to see this
I loved Steptoe and Son
What a fab video Paul
Thanks for sharing
