Great analysis and spot on. I was blessed enough to have been one of the other performers on the program with Ms. Graff that day. Hands down she slayed the audience and all of us with a close second by Laurie Beechman. An honor and dream come true for me to have shared the stage with her on that Tribute To Broadway. ALL of the buzz in the biz at that time was about Ms. Graff, she owned the piece. All of your mention of her spellbinding gaze and use of the 4th wall is exactly right. Watching from the wings was a sheer catharsis. I’ll NEVER forget that special day.

Oh my goodness, you’re giving me chills! Thank you for your beautiful words and your incredible story! I’d love to hear you sing! I was so thrilled when Randy Graff wrote me about my reaction - she was delighted and of course it made my day! Thanks again for sharing your special personal day in the room where it happened! Please send me a link of you singing! 🙏🏽🎶♥️

Amazing episode!! Especially for the insight on how to do that "shame" part. Really mindblowing hahah and thanks for sharing a little bit of your story with us as well!! Also, it would be wonderful to see you analyzing male Les Mis performances as well, like the song Stars! Keep it up!

I learned what belting means. I thought it was about singing as loudly as possible but it’s more than that. I’m here because of Sierra and Phantom.

Huge Les Mis fan here. I've seen the Marius tour numerous times. Wish I could've seen you perform the role of Fantine. Loved this analysis of Randy Graff's stunning performance. She has always been a favorite of mine. Nuances are the life of theatrical performance; it's the small things, the inflection, a gesture that create magical moments on stage.
This video was thoroughly entertaining and informative. I look forward to checking out some of your other videos on this channel.

What a wonderful analysis, and what a beautiful voice you have, Miss Setrakian! I am simply a music lover myself, but enjoyed learning about the techniques employed in Miss Graff’s performance, and also hearing some of your story! What fun you have had! I would love to see you analyze some of the Les Mis 10th Anniversary Concert performances such as Michael Ball’s Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, and Judy Kuhn in In My Life. Also would love to see your analysis of Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman performing Time to Say Goodbye. Just when you get time to! Thank you!

Thank you! This was one of my favorite songs from my most favorite musical. Great technical analysis and advice for how to sing it.
Now if you really want to react to the most iconic singers, you simply must react to Dimash Kudaibergen (Qudaibergen) , the best singer of all time, a legend in the making. I know I sound silly when I say that, but you need to listen to him for yourself. He is 25 right now, from Kazakhstan, originally trained in classical singing but after turning down a position with the Astana Opera, went on to earn a bachelor’s in contemporary music and jazz. Currently studying for a master’s in composition. Both parents were singers too. Exploded onto the international scene on January 21, 2017 when he sang SOS d’un Terrien en Détresse (a song from the 1978 French Canadian rock opera Starmania) . Since then, reaped dozens of music awards, put out his first album, several music videos, launched his Dynasty then his Arnau international tours. Conquered China, then Russia, and was in the middle of a European tour when the coronavirus pandemic stopped him. He held his first American concert on December 10, 2019 at the Barclays Center in NYC. He has millions of fans around the globe and dozens of fan clubs. His vocal register is 6 octaves and 1.5 tone (based on his performances; could be more). His genre: everything from opera to rap, passing through musicals, pop, cultural and ethnic, jazz and rock. And often mixing genres within one song or even one phrase.... very successfully.
Please please react to his SOS from Singer 2017, or his Sinful Passion from Sochi 2018. These two are great sample portfolios.
Then you can pick any of his other songs... I’m waiting eagerly to hear your opinion! (You can tell I’m a Dimash Dear- name he gave his fans).

I’m sorry, I didn’t catch how you said you learned how to chest belt. You said you started to belt B5 on chest, But I thought that story was coming with a tip on how you learned how to use your chest instead of mixed voice that high. I want to hear your method on Chest belting . Was it by thinking of it as a yell?

Marie Faustina I am! On Facebook I now have three Facebook live voice lesson videos that you can take a look at on my own page @MarySetrakian. This week, probably Tuesday, I’m going to do a class for women only belt/legit so you can know how to navigate both voices. Hope you can join me! I do it both on Instagram live and Facebook live. On Instagram it stays up for 24 hours and Facebook if you miss it live it stays there as you can see now I have three lessons. I’m sorry I’m not sure of the exact time right now! If you follow me on both I should give a heads up before I start probably the day before. Wishing you the best in this crazy time!

Marie Faustina I have a Masters in classical voice performance, so I know your journey. Look for the class on Tuesday. I’m pretty sure I’ll do it then. In the meantime if you have time take a look at the other three lessons on FB to make sure your breath and support are in the right place.
