Make sure your landlord knows you’ll be having pets! I would recommend a house with a large yard that’s fenced! Another thing I would look out for are porches without a lot of steps. If you don’t care of senior dogs, then you can ignore that part lol Once you start scaling, getting a new place for this business is 100% worth it
You did not mention "how" as the title had in it. Hearing you talk about the ups and downs of different months and your trips was of no use at all. I am happy for you but this video was useless.
Maybe it’s because they board? Supposedly you make a TON more if you board because you can have multiple dogs at one time. If it’s just drop ins, like I do, I don’t see how you could reach those numbers unless people were paying you sky high rates, like $75/visit 😳
Cats and dogs definitely! I wish I could do cats because with cats, I can definitely scale more in terms of being able to do other things with my time, such as more walking or do house check ins. However, you might need to also think about the possibility of not getting as many dog clients in case their cats or dogs don’t get along and owners are concerned about it. From my experience, I have only had a handful of owners with cats AND dogs, and they ask if I can take their cat as well and I always have to turn them down due to my allergies. I’m sure there are a lot of owners with cats and dogs, but I don’t see any of the cat clients due to my filters. :)

Everything I have done was all organic word of mouth. people love talking to friends about their pets and also meeting clients at the dog park is a good idea too! :)
Absolutely! you can always turn down clients based on the location if it’s not something you can commute to. But another way is for people to board with you. If you’re in a house or apartment that is off-campus and your landlord is OK with pets maybe you can take in a cat since they are a little bit more low maintenance. From my experience, college cities and towns have a lot of public transit that is convenient for a lot of students so if you’re willing to commute and can work that into your schedule, that is totally possible! It’s honestly as far as you’re willing to travel. And that’s something you and the owner can discuss prior to booking. Make sure you find out which location they are at before you book because you can go down on the algorithm and have a negative impact if you end up canceling a booking after confirming them!!!
Would you ever consider going a little deeper cause I’m curious on what you’re charging to get that because I’m making about 4000 to 8000 a month I’m just curious on how you scale that that way
thats amazing! A great income! We upped our rate about 20% but still stayed within a healthy range of our competitors. We also advertise as full time as a husband and wife duo so we are able to physically care for more than when it was just myself doing Rover full time. We also didn't have weekends so we worked about 70-90 days straight before we go on a small or large trip depending on the month of the year that the trip falls on. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions :)
Jan and feb are the weakest months of the year for pretty much almost all businesses. People spend so much of their money and savings for the holidays a lot of them decide to tighten the belts and cut a lot of expenses all the way to near spring time. This is why first financial earnings reports for almost every publicly traded company is usually the weakest one.
Did you dog proof your house before you started? Have you had damage to the house or do you keep dogs only in certain areas? Do you select clients or Do you accept most?
In the beginning we accepted most. Not because we were greedy but we didn’t know how to vet them yet. Now we’re much better at turning down yellow and red flag clients. And as for doggy proofing, we did! We blocked off areas of the garden that we wanted them to stay out and we had pens to create a safe perimeter so them can roam. We did have damage to a room with carpet. We ended up ripping out the whole entire carpet and replaced with hardwood floor
Hi Gigi! I wanted to ask or see if you could do a video of your earnings of boarding vs daycare. I have been on rover for about a year just on the side along with my normal job and pulled in 30k this year just as a side hustle, I have never offered doggy day care but considering offering that and maybe going more full time, do you have a lot of dogs on repeat scheduling for daycare?
Can you show us screen shots of your app with the bookings so it’s clearer and what area do you live in is it a very high income area cause if your making over 200k a year I can’t even imagine it and it’s getting me hyped up
Aw man I tried!! But rover does direct deposit now instead of the PayPal transfer. They stopped doing PayPal transfers last November / December :( I had to download all my bank statements and add every single deposit with an excel sheet lol It was a lot of work not gonna lie and tuning and honing systems to work better. We were fortunate to live in an area that had high demand, near an airport, and we were in a house as opposed to a lot of our neighbors which were in apartments so we would attract a lot of people who wanted to drop their dogs off to us because we had other dogs to play with! Just to clarify, I started slow in the beginning!
Just curios.... What city, state are you in??? I live in 1 of the most popular tourists destinations... So i wanted to know if this big city could have the potential to the numbers you are making. Thanks
How much are you paying in taxes estimated . Like how much of a percentage do you save each payout for taxes . I have made 7,000 so far from January to now .
Hi, I would love any videos on how you keep track of your schedules, dog rooms in your home, yard/outside time. If I could get my income up to your level, quitting my day job would be a dream.
I am on rover with my brother and we have great reviews. I still have a slight learning disability and I am on disability for my arthritis but rover helped me get credit cards paid. I learned about dogs. It is a very easy job. My brother works at Amazon fresh. It was a great job that I could do from home so I was looking for a job that I could do at home and this job seem to be the best thing watching dogs was something that my brother started doing and then I said I’d like to make an account so him and I are on this account together and we have a lot of reviews, and a lot of the dogs that most of them wanna come back and the dogs don’t wanna leave because they like me. This experience has taught me things about dogs that I never knew about. I’m learning about dogs and how they are. I also watch cats on Rover too. I do have to change the price we charge for the dogs because my brother said we need to up the prices, but I was afraid to do that because somebody commented and said that another sitter had it for less than what I had it for.
It varied every day as dogs were coming and going since we did daycare AND boarding. But we also did dog drop ins as well. So I don’t have a number sorry! I just remember it was a very busy 3 days with lots of driving and logistics juggling 😖
I think location is key. Not only the city but who your neighbors are. Before my move, I was in a house with a great backyard amongst a sea of apartments so my place was very attractive to many parents and was able to justify a higher rate than my competitors. And those who are willing to pay more were my customers :) know your worth!
Hi Gigi, and everyone in the comment section. Quick question, can foreigner move to the US and make $10,000 in one year on rover, and how exactly would one go about it. I wanna raise atleast $10,000 dollars for my tuition.
If you don’t mind sharing your zip code and name I can try to find your profile and see if there are any pointers I can provide! Def check out your competition and see what others are saying and use them as a jumping off point :)
If you were working 5 days a week with one income, how much do you think you could make just starting out part time and then full time? And if you needed to study while working, are most people okay with that if you’re just pet sitting and not doing the walking? If that makes sense. And do you have your own pets? Who takes care of them when you travel? I’ve heard some horror stories of people not getting paid at all for walking a dog on Wag when they completed the whole walk because of false customer complaints where the customer lied. Has that ever happened to you? I’ve also seen some articles on Wag and Rover of multiple owners’ pets going missing or actually dying on their watch. If I sign up for River as a sitter and I want to travel at some point and take a break, I don’t know who I would leave my pets with if there are literal murderers on the app not being punished and Rover and Wag had the owners just sign NDA’s and not even apologize.
Such a great question! I have 1 dog of my own. You have full control over your schedules and my best advice is to be transparent with your clients. They’ll appreciate it :) for example, if you are a student, and you only have three days out of the week to sit, you can definitely let them know, and then if you have a test that day, just tell them you need to step out. Most likely, owners are OK if you have to be out of the house for 2 to 3 hours. There are dogs on the app that have the option to say that they are OK being left for four hours alone or even eight hours alone. Some dogs are puppies and they can only be left alone for less than an hour. It’s all in their bio. I recommend not taking in those clients right now, especially if you are a student. Same for the walking just tell them you can’t walk for x day or say you can check in but only let out/ walk for 5 minutes. As for not getting paid.. I haven’t had that issue yet, so I can’t speak for that. I’m sorry.
I scaled it pretty fast. But the first 5 months were slow. I recommend starting at a low price point, and build your reviews for the long game. Check out my tips video if you haven’t seen it already!
How much do you charge per walk? How long? Drop in sitting? Do you board? It’s mind boggling to me to think one person could make that. Congratulations! I’m a mom of 6 and my daughter and I started this as a side hustle. Dog walking and drop in sitting. We just do something that we can fit into our schedule.
Ohh I do it with my husband! Haha I can no way do this alone! The rates fluctuate depending on puppy / non puppy and holiday versus regular but it ranges from 30 for our cheapest walks to 75 for holiday puppy boarding. And we charge a good amount for drives. If my husband is caring for doggos at home, it frees me up to dog walk or do house drop ins
As a Christian I understand that Christmas is important, but as a young couple I would do it to build a huge savings account. You just never know what can happen...so for a couple of years bank girl bank! lol
Lol you’re so funny! After doing this for three Christmases now, we definitely have learned to make boundaries. For example, if it is a daycare on Christmas day, we don’t except them, but if we have overnights throughout the Christmas week, we tell them that we will be stepping out for family events, but we limit ourselves to a few hours for that activity so we can make it home in time before a doggie has their accident. 100% of the time, a lot of clients appreciate the transparency and they will let us know if that is something they are comfortable with. if not, we will decline them. The understand we have a family life too! Do whatever works for you girl! I’m so glad you understand the Christian business Woman struggles on Christmas Day! Haha
being in school is awesome! Some people love knowing that youre in school but that also means you will come back home periodically for the pups . Just be sure to let them know up front so they're very clear on the expectations. better to be over communicative than not. and laso I'm in Souther California, Los Angeles
I charge 48-95 per day. It depends if they are paying for a drop off and pick up and if the dog is a puppy or if it is a holiday rate. In my range i gave, i included the minimum price for daycare and our price if they did the round-trip drop off on a holiday :) I know it is a large range, so definitely take to advantage of holidays!
Hi! Do you have a CPA? Grab the tax form from your profile. And send it over to your cpa or fill out your own taxes using that form as an independent contractor. Would it help if I create a Short?

Have you ever had a problem with your account? That's the only thing setting me back!! It makes me anxious to think about something bad happening to my bank account..
My husband was watching them in the doggy yard. Based on the lighting of this video it was probably right after breakfast so some were most likely still eating and others were playing in the doggy yard. I watched some of your rover videos, good luck! I can’t do big dogs like you, unfortunately im not strong enough for multiple large size dogs. you’re awesome!
oh no no, not every week. i wish! nov and dec was above average so it brought the average up. but we had slow months too! the reality of being a business owner is that income changes every week =/
Only way this is possible is if she is drop ins for an entire large suburban neighborhood where all the occupants are gone the whole day and they all happen to want the drop ins at all different times AND they all want her and no other dog sitter or Walker. Not likely.
Hello! This is our full time job :) and we actually don’t do many drop ins. We do a lot of boarding and take advantage of holiday rates. We work 7 days a week 3 months at a time. So basically work 90 days straight and we make sure we overlap all major holidays without vacationing on those months. Hope that made sense! :)
@@Life-so3wx It depends! Sometimes we do two smaller trips or one longer trip. The next one we’re going to take is about 12 days ☺️ right after thanksgiving And then we will be back in time for Christmas!

You can't make 200k a year dog walking...unless you are lucky enough to have very rich clients. It's basically a child's weekend job or some single mum or housewife's job who has nothing else to do with their time while their husband is working his ass off all day in a real job.

Everything I have done was all organic word of mouth. people love talking to friends about their pets and also meeting clients at the dog park is a good idea too! :)
Is it possible to become a dog sitter as a college student who doesn’t have a car?
Absolutely! you can always turn down clients based on the location if it’s not something you can commute to.
Thank you
You’re welcome!
Youre killing it!
I wonder why Feb was so low! even though it was a shorter month the difference is huge!
Oops, how did I miss this! I can try to go more in depth next time! How’s your Business going so far ? :)
They stopped doing PayPal transfers last November / December :(
I had to download all my bank statements and add every single deposit with an excel sheet lol
It was a lot of work not gonna lie and tuning and honing systems to work better.
@@Gigichew thanks for the info and good job keep up the content
@@Frostybitts Aw thank you! At the end of the video, I talked about what can affect the pricing but maybe I should make a separate video on that too!
@@Gigichew but where do you live?

Just curios.... What city, state are you in??? I live in 1 of the most popular tourists destinations... So i wanted to know if this big city could have the potential to the numbers you are making.

How much are you paying in taxes estimated . Like how much of a percentage do you save each payout for taxes . I have made 7,000 so far from January to now .
there are seasons but we try to put away 25-30% per booking to taxes, totally feels bad how much we pay in fees AND in taxes! :(
Hi, I would love any videos on how you keep track of your schedules, dog rooms in your home, yard/outside time. If I could get my income up to your level, quitting my day job would be a dream.
Great idea! Not sure if this comment is still relevant but I’ll add that to my list
What area are u guys in? I’m in CT/NYC area
Are these the totals after rovers 20%
oo no before rover's 20% and before taxes so our gross :) i shouldve clarified!
Loved your video, it was very informative!
How do you take cash or Venmo payments?
How many dogs did you board at Christmas?
It varied every day as dogs were coming and going since we did daycare AND boarding. But we also did dog drop ins as well. So I don’t have a number sorry! I just remember it was a very busy 3 days with lots of driving and logistics juggling 😖
Does location have anything to do with your success?
I think location is key. Not only the city but who your neighbors are. Before my move, I was in a house with a great backyard amongst a sea of apartments so my place was very attractive to many parents and was able to justify a higher rate than my competitors. And those who are willing to pay more were my customers :) know your worth!
I like how she says we dident make that much only 8k lol wow must be rough
ah sorry. i guess relative to the other months! We have a very high mortgage so that month was rough >_
I have not got a single booking on rover
Lol
Hi Gigi, and everyone in the comment section. Quick question, can foreigner move to the US and make $10,000 in one year on rover, and how exactly would one go about it.
I wanna raise atleast $10,000 dollars for my tuition.
How long does it take to get booked I’m on week 1 nothing yet unfortunately???? Any advice
If you don’t mind sharing your zip code and name I can try to find your profile and see if there are any pointers I can provide!
Def check out your competition and see what others are saying and use them as a jumping off point :)
Lol
@@Gigichew 77477 yeah it’s been over a month now I even went down on the prices still nothing
I’m sorry.
I have my own dog sitter on rover than I trust. It came to a point where we would recommend one another to our clients when one of us are out of town!
How many dogs do you board a night?
Do you still do this? Would you be willing to connect ?
WOW!
How do u make so much? I only made $1000 last year.
@@GigichewI keep seeing you say drives. What is that? What does it mean?
Hello, Thanks for the video!. Can you share your rover profile link please?
Dayum Gweeerl!! Make that cheddar!!
What are your rates to be making that much?
My day to day will fluctuate but my holidays are currently at $65!
How much does Rover pay for dog walking?
Haha
Where are you located I’m in south Florida trying to make it full time to work with my school schedule
being in school is awesome! Some people love knowing that youre in school but that also means you will come back home periodically for the pups . Just be sure to let them know up front so they're very clear on the expectations. better to be over communicative than not. and laso I'm in Souther California, Los Angeles
so how much are u charging per day for 1 dog for dog sitting?
I charge 48-95 per day. It depends if they are paying for a drop off and pick up and if the dog is a puppy or if it is a holiday rate. In my range i gave, i included the minimum price for daycare and our price if they did the round-trip drop off on a holiday :)
I know it is a large range, so definitely take to advantage of holidays!
How many dogs at time 😮?
How to get your first clients? Please help!!!
Are asking “people who are clients for the first time”? Or getting them as your first client?
What are your rates a night
Can y’all help me , how do I file my taxes this year on Rover thanks
Hi! Do you have a CPA? Grab the tax form from your profile. And send it over to your cpa or fill out your own taxes using that form as an independent contractor. Would it help if I create a Short?
Hey there I was wondering the same thing, I think it would be great if you created a video or short on how to file taxes as I’ve never filed taxes before?

Yes, most is from boarding. another service we get a lot of request for is transportation and I upsell by doing exit baths a lot of the time as well

About 2 weeks!
Where are the dogs while you're doing this video?. I don't even hear any noises from dogs.
200k in a year, 20,000$ a minimum a month, 5+grand a week, okayyyyy i cane to say thats a joke 😂😂😂
oh no no, not every week. i wish! nov and dec was above average so it brought the average up. but we had slow months too! the reality of being a business owner is that income changes every week =/
@@Gigichew how much time do you take off between the 3months?
@@Life-so3wx It depends! Sometimes we do two smaller trips or one longer trip. The next one we’re going to take is about 12 days ☺️ right after thanksgiving
And then we will be back in time for Christmas!
If you live in a city, did you have to get a boarding kennel license? I live in a residential neighborhood and it wouldn’t be allowed. Plus I’m a renter so my landlord…🙄

You can't make 200k a year dog walking...unless you are lucky enough to have very rich clients. It's basically a child's weekend job or some single mum or housewife's job who has nothing else to do with their time while their husband is working his ass off all day in a real job.
@@Marc-dj5fk we don’t just dog walk! :) we have a whole entire business full time both husband and I. It started as just dog walking for me on rover and it evolved about a year later
I don’t know about rich clientele :), but we do live in California and comparing other locations, it does seem like the market is higher than other states since californias cost of living is higher. I made another video comparing rover profiles, you can get a good idea of what other states might charge for the same service
