The zips worked fine in their own individual direction but I had to step out of the jacket. Somehow at some point, I misaligned the zips to close the jacket. I used the principles in this video to take the zips off to reset the bottom and now, it works again!! Yay!

I bought some replacement sliders and I couldn't remember both zippers slide onto the same side. What a pain in the butt. Good thing I bought a kit with different sizes. I just figured out how to fix a zipper with NO TOOLS! If you have a zipper that has two sliders and the zipper has become misaligned: In a stretch of about 2" wipe both sides of the zipper with candle wax. Really fill the gap between the teeth. Now you can pull the one side that is too long against one of the sliders until it is even again. Then do the same for the other slider. Takes about 5 minutes. Then RIGOROUSLY shake and cleane thos teeth with dawn dish soap and water to clean the teeth out of all wax. Good as new!
Hey Hyrum, I had to create a folder zipper that hinges at the top. It open 16th of an inch allowing from the foreword or top both sides ti be inserted. It then ratchets to the width of the zippers. The back side is about three timed the length of the front or pull side. .From necessity the mother of creation, comes solution. Too bad it only solves broken zippers, and not world peace or even hunger. I can’t patent it, as only the original device commonly referred to as ,’pulled closure using two opposite sides of equal length offering immediate marriage of toothed sides offering closure of garment or as a bag or pocket closure.’ I call mine, ‘The easy Zipper Repair..’. Repairs broken closures in minutes. I think my original intent was World Peace, and in a sense, I am bringing two opposites together, for a cohesive closure.
This is great. But what if it's a nylon zipper? If the stops at the top are nylon, not brass, they aren't going to bend like metal, are they? Aren't they going to crack and break when I try to take them off and put them back on? I want to try out this technique on my wife's expensive Gore-tex raincoat, but I don't want to ruin the top stops. I know this video is over four years old, but I'd appreciate an answer.

So I removed the top stops, but the zipper slider won't slide off! I'm not sure what's causing the issue. The actual problem is that the chain is misaligned (one tooth is being higher than the other!)-would this misalignment prevent the zip from sliding off?

I'm having trouble at the bottom of the double zipper. The plastic and fabric is fraying. When I try to put the second side into the double zipper, it sticks or doesn't pull on right. It takes a long time to get it on completely and aligned so that I can pull up the zipper pull. any ideas??

Was about to pull the top stops out (which were plastic, would have to be replaced by something else since I can't crimp them back on), but then realized I could get both zippers mouth to mouth at bottom and take one side out, then feed it back in aligned. Might not work on all zipper types but still worth mentioning that it might be possible to fix without altering anything. This was on a Marmot sleeping bag.

Yes, the same idea applies. If you can move the bottom slider up, then you'll want to remove the top stops, take off the top and bottom slider. Then put the sliders back on and reattach the top stops. Let me know if you have further questions.

Most often the bottom slider is different because it needs to accommodate the pin and box of the zipper. You can try to use the 2nd top slider, but you may find that it'll be too tight when zipping up your garment.
I have a jacket I love with a double like yours but not sure if all metal or something else. Lately, when I stick the end thru both sliders, I can see it come out the bottom slightly... the zipper zips up but if I move certain ways or sit down, the zipper starts separating from the bottom upward. Did I knock off a stop on the bottom or something? It's winter in Buffalo here!
+matermark if you have images of the zipper, I can try to help and see why it's doing that. When the pin goes past the bottom slider, it usually means that one of the bottom teeth are damaged. So it's not aligning the teeth correctly, which leads to the zipper separating. Send me images and I'll see if I can help.
I finally found a solution to my exact problem! Question: Rather than removing the stops at the top (it's more daunting on my jacket), why not pry open a larger gap in the mouth of the slider to remove it, then put the gap back to normal after re-assembling?
While that could work, I'd caution that opening the slider mouth could cause problems down the line. One thing is it will weaken the slider and could cause the slider to not zip the sides together because the slider mouth is not clamped down enough. Another potential issue is that when you open the slider mouth and then go back to clamp it down, it could break the slider completely. Working with the stops is less of a risk and also could be easily repaired by sewing a stop in. Hope that's helpful.

I have a jacket that came with a double zipper like this video, but I'm an idiot and thought it was only supposed to be one zipper so I cut it off. Is there any way to make a double zipper function with only one slider?

This was a great vid. Unfortunately my pin has ripped off which prevents my second zipper from engaging at the bottom. Maybe I can kludge something up as an impromptu “pin” before having to replace the whole zipper. (?)

Hello, love your videos but I can't find the answer to my problem. I am currently working in a very remote location with no access to a new zip, and the zip on my Eastpak backpack has just broken. There is one tooth half way along the zipper which seems to be causing the problem. The slider seems to skip over this section of the zip (about 3 cm worth) and then rejoin together afterwards. The tooth seems a little rough, but is not bent out of shape dramatically. Do you have any suggestions as I need this back for day to day work, and ordering a new one is impossible! Thank you ever so much.
+Kaleena Peck Have an old article of clothing that has a zipper you no longer need? Take the stops from that and use it for the plastic zipper. That's what I would do.
Unfortunately not. The two way separating zipper has a specific pin and box for the bottom slider. You can't change that pin and box to a one way separating.
I got a double sided jacket and I just cannot get the zipper to nudge into the pull. And I don't really need a double zipper. So Can I just get the top pull off and then try to get the lower pull hooked on?

What if my zipper is made of plastic and not metal like your demonstration? I can’t take out the stoppers. They seem to be glued/fused on.

how about for a jacket after zippering sliding up the bottom part of the zipped zipper starting to unzipped to cause opening my jacket. how to fix it

I have a smaller waist and bigger hips and I often search for jackets that have a double zipper so I can let some of the zipper up at the bottom. (Came to this video because I saw a "double zipper" in the description). Thank you for these videos! Loved the jean zip fix!

This was a great vid. Unfortunately my pin has ripped off which prevents my second zipper from engaging at the bottom. Maybe I can kludge something up as an impromptu “pin” before having to replace the whole zipper. (?)

Thank you! My zipper separated from the bottom, there is only one zip piece, but I think this will work! Really expensive dress that I love - happy to be able to fix it without replacing the zip!

Hello, love your videos but I can't find the answer to my problem. I am currently working in a very remote location with no access to a new zip, and the zip on my Eastpak backpack has just broken. There is one tooth half way along the zipper which seems to be causing the problem. The slider seems to skip over this section of the zip (about 3 cm worth) and then rejoin together afterwards. The tooth seems a little rough, but is not bent out of shape dramatically. Do you have any suggestions as I need this back for day to day work, and ordering a new one is impossible! Thank you ever so much.

Can I use this same repair with a plastic zipper? Im afraid to remove the stops, knowing that I will not be able to recrimp them! Please help!
+Kaleena Peck Have an old article of clothing that has a zipper you no longer need? Take the stops from that and use it for the plastic zipper. That's what I would do.
just got a double zipper vest. I dont like the double zipper, can I remove one so it functions like a normal 1 zipper vest?
Unfortunately not. The two way separating zipper has a specific pin and box for the bottom slider. You can't change that pin and box to a one way separating.
I got a double sided jacket and I just cannot get the zipper to nudge into the pull. And I don't really need a double zipper. So Can I just get the top pull off and then try to get the lower pull hooked on?
I meant just get rid of the top slider and just keep the lower one. Hopefully the lower slider will fit on.
