Candle wax was what we used when I was a kid -- 60 years ago :-) Being a much thicker lubricant, it doesn't wash off even in the laundry, so you can imagine how well it performs in the rain.

5:20 Vaseline is unsuitable. Way too greasy. The product of choice is silicone grease. Applied very sparingly.
But it only helps if the *lower rails from the zipper are not yet worn across the width.*

Instead of vaseline on sticky zipper teeth, get an old candle and rub it on them. It's neater and lubricates just as well.

For bags that have a missing zipper tab, I just use a key ring - no need for thread and paperclip. Using a large safety pin also work, but key ring works great. Have used safety pin for pants and sweaters. Just simply clamp or hammer the needle end section so it won't unpin.

If your flys wont stay up as I have found pn really cheep jeans put a thin bit of super glue on the bit where the metal joins the fabric, give it at least 10-20 minutes to MAKE SURE IT IS DRY! first before you do up the zip. It just gives a bit more friction to stop it sliding down, if it is tight don't worry just keep working it and it will wear off the excess glue.

I don’t really like the safety pin for zipper on jeans or other pants since that can deform, leaving the pointy tip bare and it wouldn’t only mean the zipper be undone but it also leaving a poking hazard. I much prefer the paperclip option, with the superglue and tread reinforcement and if you do need the part that the zipper can be held up, just put a keychain ring (or just any double ring/spring type of ring) around the zipper end and put that ring over the button before closing the button
Absolutely loved the others and learned some very useful tricks so thanks!
