I remember watching this back in 2008 when I was just kinda coming into the gothic scene, I'm now 28 and still in the goth scene and I'm proud and happy to be still in it :) Love it all and this always brings a smile to my face, he doesn't judge anyone like other documentaries do.
I like how thoroughness of this clip. The music was actually appropriate. Depeche Mode, Voltaire, The Cure... Pretty much hit the nail on the head. At least for me. ;)
This is brilliant short film. Immaculately shot and directed. Flawless editing. Good to the production team cover the Goth story in a serious manner. Too many times journalists just take the piss. Some of you (none British viewers) may not know that The Culture Show is a BBC Television programme.
ive been to whitby and it is such a lovely place! i love the people there! if you want to go to goth weekend some people have to book a place in a years advance to be there.!
ahh, good memorise, i went there one year and it was extrodinary, i brought all of my vampire books, as well as movies (but i watched The Lost Boys most of the time), i loved the dancing as well, it was such a fun night, i can't wait to go again (yea works slow for nw so i can't afford it), anyways, cheers my friends, God bless, and remember, there's "no time to cry" =D, you know you know what that is from =D
The good old days of WGW. We did not stat going to 2008 which I think was the start of its decline. So wished I had gone years ago. Now just full of Steampunks and weekend Goths.
Be who you want to be and dress how you want to dress. I know how you feel, I spent 4 years trying to fit in and in the end I thought sod it, I now dress how I want to dress and not how society tells me to. I've had abuse thrown at me and have been attacked but when these people realise that it doesn't matter what they say or do you aren't going to change they'll probably leave you alone.
That was good report - It's nice to see us portrayed postively for once :) BTW I work for Angel Clothing and if you look very closely at the football shirts you'll see our logo there, as we're the new team sponsors!
I love that he was so open mindedcto try it AND the makeover was actually decent so he could really get a feel for the scene without it being fancy dress!
I live in the U.S. and in the Coachella Valley at that, and if I saw the majority of students on campus dressing like cybergoths, romantic goths, punks, and trad goths, I'd probably pass out and probably die and go to heaven for a moment or two. Its times like this I wish I was born in the UK.
wow, what was it like? Now that I'v seen this, if they still have the gothic weekends then maybe me and my friends might plan a wee trip up to Whitby someday. =D
I would say if there was any common thread among goth individuals, it would be pain. The experience and aknowledgement of pain. Or even the acceptance of it.
I agree with his last sentence. Goth is somewhere where anyone who feels left out is automatically welcomed, and really, that's the best definition of goth I've yet heard. It's all about acceptance. The aesthetic and music is part of it and where it began respectively, but acceptance is what it's all about.
Seriously, very far away and a city would be good for you, and out of state if you can. Remember, this is a process that will take several years to complete. The clothing alone will take at least 4 or 5 years, every 2 months go one shade darker, wear silver eyeshadow instead of black, and wait until you get your own place before you decorate your room, then your house can be your gothic domain.
@Gothica059 Thanks :) I find alternative fashion ever so interesting don't you? Especially goth :P May i ask where do you get your clothes? :) Maybe change where i get my clothes from :P
"Most goths grow out of it by 20."
Ha ha! That had me in stitches. Being a "true" goth *begins* at 20.
I'm gonna be 80 and still (shakily) applying eyeliner and black lipstick.
Huge props to the interviewer for actually *trying* it, rather than just judging from afar.
Oh my goth, this guy is so nice refreshing in all that negative gothic documentaries. I nearly cried. Thanks
Some people wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as open-minded as he was. As a goth, I say he deserves props! \m/(-_-)\m/
I just love how positive this was. I really enjoyed it :)

I love how that vampire goth was so shocked after the interviewer turned goth "Blooody hell!" XD!!
I was at the first one. Still here, still gothic... .
I want to go to whitby goth weekend one day 💜
6:21 he sort of looks like Peter Murphy! It's that contour in the cheek bones!
I thought the same thing!
The TV presenter is awesome and his ease after being all gothed-up makes me really happy :)
And not a steampunk in sight....ahh those were the days..........
Long live the Gothic folk x
Long live the Damned 💀💚
Yes I remember this. Pretty good spotlight on Goths. I agree with Nightwalker973, I'm going to be this way for a long time. Spiritus "The Dark Prince"
I was in the band that played right before The Damned. I'm glad this is still here-good memories!
That reporter actually made a very good goth fair play to him having a go .
It should be called Whitby steampunk weekend now, you hardly ever see a Goth.
I'm really happy someone posted this! I didn't think I would be able to see it. I really like his closing comment.

On behalf of goths worldwide, thanks for showing us positively!
This was such a great segment, opening with ‘Melody Lee’. I will always be a goth at heart. 🖤

I love all five pixels of this video 🖤

"I wanted to find out why Goth refuses to die."
We're already dead, baby! Only 2 days to April WGW '08!
