- Recently video was released of a French helicopter gunning down a Houthi drone over the Red Sea. Today we not only re-enact this but try to find out which is the best gunship for this type of mission.

I had Dark's emotions removed by a cheap doctor to make his DCS playing more efficient. Seems to have worked?

No Cap, you are not the world's worst helicopter pilot. My son recently got to try an Apache pilot training simulator, nobody told him about the foot pedals so he was mostly using precession and recession to turn.
I think he will grow up to be a great pilot.

Any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing.
Cap's greatest weakness is he is unable to fire a gun of any type without shouting "get some!".
Absolutely lousy on stealth missions.

There comes a point where the incessant need to open the canopy mid flight EVERY mission gets very very old...and stupid. The GET SOME makes me hit MUTE.

You should equip the Mi-24 with its gun pods. Much easier to hit and higher volume of fire. Rounds are smaller and lower velocity but no matter for drones
I was really hoping Cap, when finally getting the Pip to work on the Gazelle, would triumphantly cry, "PIP, PIP HOORAY!"

13:32 those little black things on top of the gun are iron sights. Align front sight between rear sights and train weapon to put drone within the aligned sight picture. Ensure top of front sight aligns with top of rear sights. Adjust for windage and elevation by observing tracers relative to target at target range. Conserve ammo and barrel.

Little birds probably much the same as the Gazelle; higher volume/smaller munitions…
Cobra/Super Cobra might be an interesting one - similar firepower to the Apache; but significantly worse sensors… the chin turret might separate it from the Hind et al.

Love the landings... by expert aviators
In the movie, battleship. An international fleet as a show their partnership, had a joint naval exercise in which they had 3 of their ships move out of formation to scout the objects which had landed not far from the fleet. There were 3 crafts which had very strong offensive capabilities who had a fight with the 3 naval ships. I was thinking what would happen if you replaced the 3 craft with yamato class ships and have them fight the international fleet. The fleet as far as i remember consisted of americans and japanese. But if you changed the japanese to chinese and had the two use their carrier groups to form up the international fleet (with a few british ships). Then have them fight each other.

The drone was shot by the door gunner of a Panther (militarised version of the Dauphin) , so no locking on target with the flir camera or shooting with the help of any kind of sensors.
To be realistic you should only be using helicopters with door gunners, no gunship.

From a purely price-to-performance ratio, the Gazelle is hard to beat. Much easier to justify against cheap drones.

He was strictly using his tracers and he wasn't even coming close most of the time
But the havoc was one chopper only with sensors. Three of them with people that know how would probably be equal to the apache

Interesting.. i did a trial of the Gazelle and i had the exact same issue, no rudder control whatsoever, and collective would mess with the stick..
Never got to fly her.. shame.
Probably a gunship like h225. I should note that their door gun is a variant of the m621 20mm
I may be weird, but I found the AH-64 Apache the hardest helicopter to fly vs the Mi-24 if we are talking pure flying and not weapons employment.
The Apache just feels so squirmy and does it's own thing and you are constantly fighting it, while the Hind is sluggish, but predictable meaning if you have tried MD-11s or 747s in simulators, you can easily deal with it.

Guns-only, I am going to put the money on the Huey with a 7.62 mini-gun. I am at the start of the video. You can carry more rounds plus you're not going to need anything with a lot of penetration... so you carry more rounds for the same weight.

You can just use satellite to search all the existing sam and aircraft then program the drone to fly around it far enough so that it won't be spotted
