I absolutely love this band. I also love Chris' vocals. You have to, HAVE to admire the skill of everyone in this band. Regardless of your labels, of your unkind words. This band speaks very well, what it believes it needs to say. They have a vision and they are making it happen. I admire that, and I love this shit.

The vocals are a complete dichotomy to the aggressive nature of the melody, they don't mesh at all. The vocalist sounds like a fucking pansy, he belongs in an alternative or pop band.

@@Wth969 actually, I'm a scrupulous, scrawny geek. Clean vocals *can* be done well in metal music, like in Deftones for example, but it's a very small niche. This song is like a bad rollercoaster, it amps up as you approach the crest of the 1st peak, and it just teeters at the top it never delivers the payoff; or like driving a top-fuel dragster at 60mph, such a waste of potential.

    Ways have changed
Guiders of the open wind you make me understand
Again and again you make the same mistakes
I can't ask to make that change
    Their bodies official
    The guardians of the stream
Now, we're sailing across the world
    Provided a place to stay
Whatever the cost that makes us different
    Dare to look away
For better or worse I'm sure
    We'll ride along this wave
Whatever the cost that takes us distant
    Dare to walk that way
    The great ocean
    Takes laughter
    With hollowing
How could we live inside of a ship that's been slowly abandoned
    Taken by the cold?
    We're drifting away
    We're drifting away
    We're sailing away
    We're sailing away
Now, we're sailing across the world
    Provided a place to stay

You sir, you fucking get it. Browne is a fucking groove-writing machine with a mechanical picking-hand, and IMO, just a genius composer as well. Most of the dislikes on this video are probably from people that listen to it and only hear the vocals and general feel, while the rhythmic intricacies go completely unnoticed.

Except Gnosis is a far better album. After listening to The Amanuensis a shitload of times...Every song sounds the same...which is something I can't really say for Gnosis. I'm not a huge Chris Barretto fan but I had no problem with the vocals. It was really just the song writing. I just think Browne wrote better songs on Gnosis.

I prefer Monuments to Periphery (and I'm a fanboy when it comes to either) but periphery has more good stuff where as monuments has 1 good thing that's better than anything else ever put together.

Sponce sounded epic on the first album and alpha/omega, eh on the rest

this guy (Chris) actually wrote all the lyrics for Periphery's first album im pretty sure, but wasnt with them by the time it came to record it. Think poor Spencer had about 3 weeks to learn and record all the tracks.

I'm pretty sure they boosted the instruments in this mix compared to the album version. Sounds good! Nice video too, cheers guys!

How is that? I think they remind me of Tesseract.

Tristan Edwards i agree with you because of the clean vocals, feels more similar on I, the Creator !

Tristan Edwards Yeah, a lot of this reminds me of Sevendust, but with more Tesseract/Periphery guitar work

+muntificator ...Periphery? Really? I can't comment on the Tesseract part, but Periphery? Really?
Two pretty much completely different play styles. I like Monuments' play style MUCH more than Periphery's, but I still like Periphery.
