I absolutely love this band. I also love Chris' vocals. You have to, HAVE to admire the skill of everyone in this band. Regardless of your labels, of your unkind words. This band speaks very well, what it believes it needs to say. They have a vision and they are making it happen. I admire that, and I love this shit.
The vocals are a complete dichotomy to the aggressive nature of the melody, they don't mesh at all. The vocalist sounds like a fucking pansy, he belongs in an alternative or pop band.

Damn, this is one of the grooviest djenty tunes I've run into. I could listen to this over and over :) One of the only tunes in long time I had to learn by ear on guitar as well.
These guys are way more consistent with their quality of music for me. I have been listening to periphery since the demo take days with jake veredika, and it's just a real hit or miss with them with their albums as a whole. Periphery still have some incredible songs no doubt and I appreciate and enjoy their music.
I completely agree mate. Periphery have some incredible tracks but their albums as a whole are kind of "meh" in my eyes. Such a shame, because their good songs are insanely good!
John browne is grossly underrated as a guitarist As well. He writes some some of the most interesting riffs. They have this crazy mixture of melody and crushing rhythmic ostinatos. I never feel like any of the riffs are half assed or just meant to be filler.
Awesome, excellent creativity here. A mix of technicality and groove, these guys are amazing and deserve much support, a great album of material as well. Thank you.
You guys really brought it in Atlanta this week. Left a bigger fan, everybody was great but drummer caught my attention on this song. Play the ending riff on snare only with 16 notes, it goes accent left and then everything is off beat accent right, I fucking love it. Kudos
Oh man. The intro of this song makes me feel nostalgic for some reason. When I hear the intro I think I am hearing SevenDust for the first time back in 97/98.
Are you people listening to ANY of the guitarwork or are you just spewing garbage because of the new vocalist? If you think this band isn't kicking the shit out of the progressive metal scene, you must have cookies for ears. Go listen to Gnosis, then try to tell me Monuments sounds like other prog bands. smh
You sir, you fucking get it. Browne is a fucking groove-writing machine with a mechanical picking-hand, and IMO, just a genius composer as well. Most of the dislikes on this video are probably from people that listen to it and only hear the vocals and general feel, while the rhythmic intricacies go completely unnoticed.
Except Gnosis is a far better album. After listening to The Amanuensis a shitload of times...Every song sounds the same...which is something I can't really say for Gnosis. I'm not a huge Chris Barretto fan but I had no problem with the vocals. It was really just the song writing. I just think Browne wrote better songs on Gnosis.
Personally i don't care for the singing, just a subjective thing. I got to see them live a few nights ago and unfortunately the singer had a cold and couldn't sing, so he played sax. I can now say that I like him playing sax better. So yeah I will say the singing isn't for me, I mean hes a good singer but just sounds better with sax to me.
For those of you that do know this I apologize for making you read this sentence or two. For those who don't know this, Chris Barretto (Current Monuments Vocalist) WAS in Periphery before Spencer Stotelo became the vocalist. That's why some of their songs sound a little Periphery-like.
I prefer Monuments to Periphery (and I'm a fanboy when it comes to either) but periphery has more good stuff where as monuments has 1 good thing that's better than anything else ever put together.
this guy (Chris) actually wrote all the lyrics for Periphery's first album im pretty sure, but wasnt with them by the time it came to record it. Think poor Spencer had about 3 weeks to learn and record all the tracks.
I had no idea who this band was 2 years ago. I was introduced by JB's playing on an EMG pickups video. I was floored by what he played so much I looked for Monuments. I feel his HISTORICALLY MONSTROUS playing is over shadowed by marginal singing and histrionics. How unfortunate this is. He towers above this band in talent and sheer musicality. if this is his choice then I am with him but I see far brighter horizons elsewhere for this man. More's the pity.

Now that Chris is in the band, it's impossible to ignore them!

this band is surprisingly unpopular. so many metalcore bands are getting millions of views on their videos.... but not them?! dafuq??
Not metalcore. At all.
jozza It's progressive metalcore. Metalcore with actual guitarplaying!
progressive metal*, it has nothing to do with core
This is not metalcore it's progressive metal, and the genre progressive metal as a whole is not mainstream in the first place.
mattce988 idk... i dont really like the clean vocals...
Even though 'In Stasis' is probably their best work yet, this song is still my favorit.

Their Guitar Work is phenomenal.
