Just wondering if anyone here knew that Chris Barretto also plays all the saxophone on Tesseracts Altered State. Just thought that was worth putting out there
After listening countless times I'm still blown away by the vocals. Which is weird, I usually hate clean, high pitched vocals over progressive metal. But dayum what a chorus and what a vocal performance. Sick.
In spite of making this all I breathe I'm sitting soulless in moments unforeseen But I Long to feel the breeze Bound by this disease Scars to take the place of open channels with no stream I've got the answer, do I dare to heed? Amazing song! So happy for Chris doing his thing. Coming from lamps burning (my father's band) to periphery and monumments. He's come such a long way. Supporting 100%
To me, the instrumental version and this sound like 2 completely different songs, and I love it. Like, my favorite Periphery song off the 1st album was Light, but my favorite off the instrumental album was Ow My Feelings. However, I think that I, The Creator and the Indulger instrumental are my 2 favorite Monuments songs regardless. Browne is a fucking groove machine.
Absolutely amazing song writing, my new favourite band. Too bad the production and mixing needs a lot of work - the bass drum sounds like someone slapping a wet fish against a wooden floorboard
Saw them live in Toronto a while back now, and not having any pre-existing knowledge of the band I thought they were bad ass. The vocalist played the sax through a pod of some sort and it was by far the coolest part in the night. Does anyone know of any songs recorded where they mix some elements of sax in it?
I can dig this new vocalist. It's always weird to hear vocals over an instrumental track you've played on repeat for months, but after 2:10-2:45, my faith was restored.
lot of complaints about the mix if you guys havent heard on cd I feel sorry for you as you will realise it is just the youtube mastering that sounds muddy.
Bradders They are all wannabe music experts anyway if they truly believe youtube can emit high quality music. They are the type of guys to listen to slipknot via their handy boxes.
These are also the kinds of people that listen to this on laptop/phone speakers, not realising the points you guys have all made and also not realising that this was mixed/mastered on high quality studio monitors and high quality headphones. If idiots are going to criticise mixes, at least listen to them right before making stupid leaps.
It's true that the album is mixed crappily. Throughout the album, guitars aren't that clear in the mix and sometimes you don't even know what notes John Browne's hitting. Chris' harmonies are buried as well. Not to mention the constant high-end blasting. JB was given less than a week to mix and master the whole thing, according to a comment of his own somewhere on UA-cam.
Fell in love at first sound. Shame on the dislikers. This is absolute quality and talent. From an unbiased perspective this isn't worthy of a dislike. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.
This is really cool. though i was not expecting those harmonies to be so layered, it'll take some time getting used to it because we've heard it so much instrumentally. He did sound like chris cornell a little in the chorus. But i dig it!
We've entered an era where instead of everyone criticizing your playing ability (because they can't) they're slamming your mix instead. Everyone and they're little brothers cousins sister thinks they are a producer/mixer/mastering engineer nowadays. Comedy
Um does the bit at 2:10 remind anyone else of Anup Sastry's solo releases specifically 1:54 in 'Nemesis'? Also that bit at 2:30? Sounds a lot like the bit at around 2:38 in 'Wastelands'...
How cool it is to listen to one of these instrumentally well-founded bands not being ruined (embellished instead) by vocals. This guy should participate in Shokran's new album.
Damn good band. All of them are excellent at their instruments and they have an awesome sound to them. I don't really care for the vocals for the most part. I think I would like them better if they were instrumental but they still are great either way.
Does anyone know the meaning of the lyrics? The first part feels like a monologue from a god or another kind of creator, that seems to be bored and lonely of his existence, but after that the perspective moves from "I" to "us" and suddenly there's an opposing faction of some kind that "we" need to fight/burn. Is there a connection between these narratives that I'm missing?
Vocal move on 1:02 is so senseless. And guys, Monuments I mean, if you read this - do something about your track-mastering (I guess it was done at that stage), because the song sounds kind of ruined. If you do such things by yourself - it's alright, but if it's a work of a hired engineer - find somebody else. I understand that it's too late, but don't ruin your whole album and our listening expirience by releasing your music sounding like this. Great song and big respect to Chris, you guys done amazing song and vocalist fits your band just right.
dat crash ride 8( every single djent band sounds the same and i don't mean it in some flaming type of way. they literally all do the same exact things. sorry folks.
If you're classifying djent as a genre, then yes bands from the same genre will sound similar and have similar ways of playing. But to me, they all are very different in their own way.
I saw monuments at a local bar called Tom cats in Texas when I was just like 14 and used to have a shirt of this album picture😭 bummer I lost it I love how much they have come up
Yes, you heard it off of UA-cam... which has compression. Won't change the sound drastically (well unless you're an audiophile like most musicians) but it will noticeably affect the velocity of sound, low-end resonance, and high-end harmonic content. It compresses both the frequency range and dynamic range of velocity. But even if one doesn't understand WTF I'm talking about, a pleb can still hear the difference. Anyway, mixing and mastering is a tricky thing. Especially if the one doing it favors one sonic character over others. Good example is Metallica's "And Justice For All". Additionally, studio monitors (as used in mixing & mastering) are much more neutral and detailed than probably any of y'all colored computer speakers and headphones (no offense). It'll translate quite a variety depending on the sound system. Other words, no one is going to listen to mixing & mastering tips from someone watching on UA-cam. Unless I'm mistaken and you're a professional music producer or sound engineer with professional studio monitors and room treatment?

Monuments without or with vocals is a band that always kill. I must confess this thing was already as awesome as we all know... but the vocals are amazing.
Fuck yeah that was wicked!
Jesus, me Lord is that you?
Oh neat... it's Ola tha Swede
Just wondering if anyone here knew that Chris Barretto also plays all the saxophone on Tesseracts Altered State. Just thought that was worth putting out there
He also wrote the majority of the lyrics on Periphery's first record
Leon Fiore Bello those sax parts on that album are epic. So cool
All of them?
I think he sang for periphery for a hot minute too
Do you mean he is responsible for the best sax solo i will hear in my life?
The vocals just made this track 10 times better
Yeah man, Chris definitely fits with this band.
Big fan of monuments from the beginning, couldn't disagree with you more.
Sadly the vocals add a generic element to the sound.
Brian lammas Curiosity…how?
Brian lammas Maybe just a fan of John? And not the band itself?
Brian lammas HA! so wrong! Barretto is epic!
There are more layers to this song than an ogre!
than an onion!
***** I think that was the joke.
Tim Davis and he was adding to the joke...
Lewis Murphy What a great addition.
***** It's never ogre

i need the ability for play this xD
You can. Play this on 6 :). It's a whole step lower than drop C so just pick up a pack of beefy strings. Not too thick, because it's unnecessary

Song is actually easier then you think
Take it from this guy who's tried learning this on a 6, you need the extra range for the tapping parts.
you don't really. just do it an octave down
Blown away by Chris's vocals!
YES
Anders?
I don't remember the last time I smiled so much listening to a new song release. Fucking phenomenal.
Kyle says hi!
Ive always loved Monuments but i really wasn't into Matt's vocals. Chris's voice is perfect for them!!
Monuments have always been my favourite progressive band out there since Fellsilent.
Progressive? Wut.
Blelleee Yeah, they're modern prog metal, what's so hard to understand?
Blelleee Progressive Metal yo, not "djent"
Mmm ok
Soy Sauce I'm going to try not to make a genre war, but really isn't basically all djent progressive metal with guaranteed chugging thrown in?
I hope my neighbors like this song.
I don't care if the do, they're going to listen to it.
Oh, they will... They're gonna have to!
My roommates like this song but after almost a decade of me blasting it, probably hate it
Haha me too.
They will
I listened to this song on repeat yesterday throughout my entire 6 hour working shift and I'm not ashamed
I hear a little Coheed and Cambria in Chris's vocals around 1:47. Digging it.
In spite of making this all I breathe
I'm sitting soulless in moments unforeseen
But I
Long to feel the breeze
Bound by this disease
Scars to take the place of open channels with no stream
I've got the answer, do I dare to heed?
Believe
All things in effect will surely grow
For now solace is the mission given to the organized
Pick a fucking side
With us or against us
We're moving forward
For now
[Chorus]
This is the end
Of promises made
That were never meant to hurt (Let it go, let it go)
Forget what I said
I just want to watch you burn
For promises made
That were never meant to hurt you (Let it go, let it go)
Forget what I said
I just wanna watch you burn
And if my time just came
Back to me
I wouldn't change a thing
Ablaze, this apparition burns
Your power is your own
Value the human spirit
Condemn yourself
Or choose to live
No more
We will form as one
Ready to fight you
With no surrender
We are ready to believe
All things in effect will surely grow
For now solace is the mission
Given to the organized
Pick your fucking side
With us or against us
We're moving forward
For now
[Chorus]
This is the end
Of promises made
That were never meant to hurt (Let it go, let it go)
Forget what I said
I just want to watch you burn
For promises made
That were never meant to hurt you (Let it go, let it go)
Forget what I said
I just wanna watch you burn
No more
We will form as one
Ready to fight you
With no surrender
We are ready to rise
When I play this on drums, I feel like I reach a higher state of existence...
If you can play this on drums then you have.
thats because you have my friend. music is the medicine
That's what's called changing dimensions
lol cool but can you play it on guitar yet?
Holy shit, Barretto nailed it. So excited for more.
Chris' vocals are tight. Pre-order?
Words cannot express how excited I am for this album.
Best band i've found in awhile
Same. This is just what I neEDED
Amazing song! So happy for Chris doing his thing. Coming from lamps burning (my father's band) to periphery and monumments. He's come such a long way. Supporting 100%
Shot Fired. TesseracT's move. Either way, I have a feeling this is gonna be an album to own on physical.
I always found periphery a bit hit and miss, love some of their songs like Icarus Lives and Jetpacks Was Yes, put lacked the grooves of Monuments
RJ James
You can't say that Icarus Lives lacks groove. Icarus Lives IS groove.
Ow My Feelings was amazing as an instrumental. and yes this is delicious. Its all nomz
ow my feelings is such a fantastic song, very underrated.
Absolutely amazing song writing, my new favourite band. Too bad the production and mixing needs a lot of work - the bass drum sounds like someone slapping a wet fish against a wooden floorboard
I read this analogy in my campus hallway. I now need to repress my urge to flop like the fish, because I am laughing too hard.
+Tame Nectar see them live :) much better
+Tame Nectar see them live :) much better
+Tame Nectar look for the full album on here, sounds much better
the guitars sound like if a tin can was used as an amp.
Sick! Loving the little hat thing in the spaces in the intro riff, really looking forward to the album!
Love it.. Malyan is a fooking legend.
Djent Sevendust. I fucking love it.
This. YES! I just about shit when I read that lol. Mind blown at how amazingly perfectly correct you are.
Djentdust.
***** Sevendjust
Moof Wongduss The vox is black though.....
Moof Wongduss Lol I love Howard!

Autotheist Movement III: Deconsecrate
John Doe lol Yes! wrong band but so much yes
I love that moment John Browne uses Magic 0:00 - 4:04
What happened to Chris? He just disappeared off the planet after leaving Monuments. All his social media are abandoned as well.
I was wondering the same.
I think hes still apart of ever forthright
he has ascended
This is...The Indulger. With vocals...
I like it ;)
Chris hasn't disappointed. This is killer. Guitar tones sound different to the original instrumental track, but I cannot wait to pre order this album!
I love how John Browne brings in the SikTh influence at 2:10.

This song sounds perfect on my 5.25" monitors. Mix is tight as hell

Those clean guitars @3:02 sound like angels harps damn

1:20 upper left of screen "Almighty Push!"
I doubt many will get this lol
Shinra tensei!
Dat Naruto joke haha
This is really cool. though i was not expecting those harmonies to be so layered, it'll take some time getting used to it because we've heard it so much instrumentally.
He did sound like chris cornell a little in the chorus. But i dig it!
The intro...damn, that intro...
I cannot understand why people are complaining about the mixing, it sounds fine to me
Perfect.
Finally they have a great singer!
This song is amazing, so glad I stumbled upon it.
Loved Chris since old Periphery, but damn he has improved so much these past few years! Can't wait for this album to drop :D
We've entered an era where instead of everyone criticizing your playing ability (because they can't) they're slamming your mix instead. Everyone and they're little brothers cousins sister thinks they are a producer/mixer/mastering engineer nowadays. Comedy
i mean, the mix isn’t god tier here
@@SpookyStorkRunningWild who cares lol it still slaps and the songwriting is god-tier
Gnosis has pretty much been on repeat for the last year or two for me... this new song has just revealed a whole new potential of awesomeness!
Your new album is a game changer! Superbad ass! Keep up with the next level of rockin!!
This album is fantastic! I'm so glad that they and Dead Letter Circus are supporting Ater the Burial in Europe this fall! Really looking forward to it
Didn't notice until I jammed it on my monitors, but it sounds like Chris is doing the Michael Jackson breathing in the chorus.
Um does the bit at 2:10 remind anyone else of Anup Sastry's solo releases specifically 1:54 in 'Nemesis'? Also that bit at 2:30? Sounds a lot like the bit at around 2:38 in 'Wastelands'...
New fan right here. Couldn't be more pumped for the Monuments/Devin/Animals tour coming up.
How cool it is to listen to one of these instrumentally well-founded bands not being ruined (embellished instead) by vocals.
This guy should participate in Shokran's new album.
Just what I needed to start off my day.
Chris fucking Baretto, ladies and gentlemen!
👍
OH YUP.
in love with the chorus and main riff on this track, outstanding
Just saw these guys last night (didn't know them before the show) and was blown away. Picked up the album and I love it!! \m/
Tyler, the Breather
This song never gets old.
The riffing though! 🤘
They completely blew my mind, EXCELLENT especially for 7 string guitar fans and players. Just Bought it.
Intervals is another good band
Phenomenal singing! The band works fine as instrumental, but I think that Barretto's singing fits in perfectly with the band, it adds alot.
Man, Chris makes Monuments so much better! I'm gonna be playing this album all Summer!
Damn good band. All of them are excellent at their instruments and they have an awesome sound to them. I don't really care for the vocals for the most part. I think I would like them better if they were instrumental but they still are great either way.
nah mate

Did you get a response? Because I was also wondering.
I'm afraid not :(
Jordy van Opstal Dang. Oh well.

THIIIISSS ISSSS THHE EEEENNNNNNDDDDDDD
I loved this already, but with vocals it's amazing!
looks like ill have this on repeat till the album drops. vocals make this song so much better
The god damn chorus my fucking god. still 10 years later. This was a moment for sure holy shit
The vocals are really fucking good, but i think a bit too loud in the mix, but then that could just be the speaker im listening to it through
Yeah vocals are insane but just a tiny bit too loud. Also screams are miles better than Matt's
LoganCovers91 oh I agree, i found it hard to get into them originally but this is top notch. I'm very excited for this album :D
Yes!!! Finally an anticipated album that isn't going to be a disappoint.
Can't..stop...listening...
So Excellent Grooves and nice Atmosphere. Good Job.
-tips fedora-
This song is freaking awesome!! Can't wait to get the album!
Didn't like them before, but this one I REALLY like! can't wait to hear more :P

You have cookies for ears.

Is anyone going to comment about 2:04? Chris sounded so fucking demonic.
It seriously doesn't get any better than this. What would I change? Nothing.
If they got Nolly to do the mixing and mastering I would love this band so much more than I already do.
I saw monuments at a local bar called Tom cats in Texas when I was just like 14 and used to have a shirt of this album picture😭 bummer I lost it I love how much they have come up
First time I listened to a monuments song with this vocalist and I am completely blown away he sounds more brutal and has good cleans
Wow, that is some awesome riffing, love the tapping sections
First time hearing instrumental track: yeah this is awesome! First time hearing vocals: OMFG *SPLOOOOOOOSH*
Monuments! Oh how I've missed this band
This song would be SOOOO good if they cleaned up the "muddy" production/mixing. imagine a re-work with clean produuction and no mud in the production.
more mids tighter low end and better mastering would do the trick
Its called UA-cam compression bruh
***** No it's not, I heard the album off of youtube
Unless I'm mistaken and you're a professional music producer or sound engineer with professional studio monitors and room treatment?

off of youtube, meaning not on youtube. on midfield studio monitors
Oceans ate Monuments.
this is easily their best song.
For me this song begin exactly at 1:00 and then i can't stop listen to it
Not only is this an awesome song, but it's an awesome intro to an awesome album.
John, you is my favorite guitarist these days. Can't wait for the album!
Wow!! Amazing work, dudes. Congrats to all Century Media Staff!! Monuments strikes back!!
Excellent work boys
I was the destroyer.
I wove the lands with hatred
And scarred the holy employer,
Vindication of the sacred.
What was held dear I took away,
All souls left to decay.
Something was wrong with me,
But in Hell I would stay.
I became the creator.
I stitched the sky with inspiration,
I was Hell’s surviving traitor,
I was the holy instigation.
I brought forth the night and day,
Guided those who would stray.
Something had changed in me,
And for Heaven I would pray.
the more i listen to this song, the more epic it becomes! starting to really love it
When New Monum, ents album coming out already guys?
Monuments without or with vocals is a band that always kill. I must confess this thing was already as awesome as we all know... but the vocals are amazing.
late 2018. love this song. perfect composition.
I was listening to the instrumental on repeat...thinking lyrics would spoil it....but it meshed pretty well...
Fucking amazing track. Vocals are pretty damn near perfect. Can't wait to hear more!!
WOW I came back to this song expecting just the instrumental, but i forgot Chris Barretto joined the band! This song is sooo much better!
Wow, Chris killed this track!! So fucking good!
