    I have 16 different kinds of young fig trees and 134 fruit and nut trees. My dad managed avocado groves for over 25 years in SD County CA. Thank you for putting this info out.

    Hi Charles, I am so glad to have run into you. You have been so informative and down to earth, it almost makes it impossible to understand everything you talk about. I just made 78 years old and was quite distressed because, I moved from Hawaii the Renton, Washington a couple of years ago and was at a loss because the plants up here are of a different world. Like you, when I was about thirteen, I had accomplished my first grafting...which made my Mom the talk of the town. I had grafted six different colored Hibiscus to one bush and when it bloomed in all of the different colors, everyone was amazed. I did not continue because at that time I used toilet tissue and paraffin wax. I had caused a small fire while melting the wax and was told not to do it anymore. But, I do have to thank you for all of the truly valuable information that you have shared. I just bought my first can of IV Organics coating and find it great. I just purchased a Mexican lime tree and a Meyer Lemon and will start playing with these. Thank you and Much Aloha. Eddie Tomihama

      Thank you for the compliment! I will have an update on this grafting project in about 6-8 weeks... So far, it's looking good (the ends of the scion and rootstock tips are still green & healthy, rather than showing any die back from all that cutting into & fitting together). Thank you for saving June 16th Live Steam Date!!! Charles :-)

    Because of my inexperience, I overwatered my avocado tree and it died ( or so I thought) from root rot. Months after I stopped watering it I realized that it was actually alive and had started growing up from the very bottom, since the rest of the tree (graft included) is dried. The new branch is about a foot below the grafting. Do I need to graft it again?
    Thank you!

    I’m enjoying your videos back to back and it’s now 3:40 A.M. on the East coast. I have two Chicago Hardy fig trees in 5 gallon buckets, and a new fig tree that I purchased yesterday from Home Depot. I was wondering if after the roots get strong enough, can the all be transplanted into one large palm tree pot that I got from a local nursery. Is that possible here in Georgia. Four years ago, I tried planting a Brown Turkey fig tree in the ground with no success. The tree eventually died. So I am having success in the buckets that I transplanted the Chicago Hardy fig trees into. They are getting new growth and one is growing figs already.
    If anyone reads this comment, please reply to it. Thank you.

    So, a few years ago I planted a peach tree in the fall. Our strange winter got some freezes and then a surprise warm spot in the middle of December (yay Texas), which tricked the poor young tree into thinking it was Spring. It put out some buds and even a flower or two before the Winter came back and snapped it back into reality. I am sure that little tree got killed under the graft because it didn't grow on the original trunk that was already there. Instead, It grew a new tree next to the old, dead one. It will flower in the Spring and even put on some tiny peaches, BUT they don't get very big and never ripen. Squirrels won't bother them unless all other food sources are gone. At this point, the roots are well established and would be hard to remove. Would chopping the tree back and grafting a couple of other varieties be recommended? I would really like to get some edible fruit off this thing and not care if the squirrels took a few. I also have limited space and think it would be nice to have a few different fruits coming off the one root stock.
    Thank you!

I'm growing my own trees from seeds to practice grafting. I’m in San Diego.

    Gday Charles , iv been watching your videos for quiet sometime and listing to you has taught me some helpful things , i loved learning about air layering which will make my future years of growing fruit tree’s much more interesting! , iv picked up some dwarf fruit trees from a well known store in Australia call “Bunnings” at first I wanted them to be Dwarf trees but now iv changed my mind and I would really love to keep these trees as iv had them for some time now , my question is that if I was to perform a successful air layering process above the grafted dwarf root stock join will my trees go back to being exactly like the original tree size from witch the grafted piece come from?

    Would this method work if I used a sucker from the root stock to the new top growth? Also would zip ties work for retaining the plastic bag on the bandage?

    • @IVOrganic
      @IVOrganic  6 років тому +1

      Hello SEEKER8558
      ,
      Yes. And, Yes. The concern with the zip tie is that it may be more challenging to remove the zip ties to check on the underlying grafts every 2-3 weeks, compared to using sting. I would not recommend using zip ties for that reason. Keep me posted on your grafting successes. Charles :-)

      @IVOrganic  6 років тому +2

      Hello
      Chillingcat
      ,
      There have been no limitations on plants that can benefit from IV Organic Plant Guard. One main function is at the time of transplanting, repotting, planting anything (peas, tomatoes, roses, citrus, pines, oaks, etc) to minimize the stress of going from a crowded nursery life to 'standing' alone in full sun (13 hours spring, 14 hours summer). Use a foliar spray will keep the plant several degrees cooler and reduce the loss of moisture from the plant. Coating the tree trunk and lower branches with reduce the risk of 1, 2 and 3rd degree burns. The next video will be on protecting large trees quickly and effectively with the IV Organic 3-in-1 and WhiteWash products. That should be released in about 1-2 weeks. Stay tuned! Charles :-)

    does grafting work by combining the traits of two plants into one?? like if you graft red currants with crab apple, will it make a red currant tree?

      No, the grafted part will grow the type of fruit it came from. There are some types of ornamental trees that may grow a combination of the flowers, but it seldom happens. I don't know of it ever happening with fruit trees.

    When you talk of winter, I wonder, what that means to someone in hardiness zone 6a. I know the trees don't die, but they really look like it. It seems that there are temperature and sun exposure considerations that might be very different from SoCal, and surely they need to be considered. I am a novice, so if this sounds utterly stupid to you, I apologize.

    Can I graft a plum three to a cherry tree

    I’m on to this grafting! I almost killed my new lime tree, all the leaves are gone 😢due to lack of watering. I’ve been deeply watering it and I have growth at the root stock, so I’m going to let it grow some more and graft the new growth to my lemon tree and then assess the growth of the lime and maybe pull it out? 🤔

    if I plant a hass avocado tree from seed , does it will gives good fruits or not ?

      Not likely.
      They do make good trees to help pollinate a grafted tree, however. You need a type "A" and a type "B" tree to get plentiful fruits.
