My 'Fingerstyle for the World' guitar course is FINALLY out! I've poured all my knowledge and experience into this course to take your playing to the next level. Check it out at academy.neilchanmusic.com/p/fingerstyle-for-the-world-level-1!
Sir I wanted to request something that is I know very few people are watching you precious videos but never stop making vids for us it really helps us very much Thanks sir...🙏
@@Avoh34 Hey, I've got many videos on ear training, especially using solfege. You can check out the playlist here! ua-cam.com/play/PLb1mYcpVy0l_74V4XtT7AJhb2dchPdvT-.html
I have never paid attention to this because generally I can play any song melody by testing one or two tabs on fret board (This is what I want to get rid of, I want to play exact tab without this kind of testing, I think only practice can solve this problem or you can suggest me some way to overcome this problem). but now I think I should instill this 'SOLFAGE' discipline in me if I really want to be a good musician 🙂🙂🙂 Love from 🇮🇳 INDIA🇮🇳
Yes! At some point the trial and error method should disappear and you can be more confident in knowing how to play the melody before even touching the guitar. Solfege is the way to go :)
Hey Audrey, good to hear from you :) Yes we start with solfege but very often advanced musicians don't recognise how powerful it can be! I have a playlist of lessons focusing on solfege, that you can find here: ua-cam.com/play/PLb1mYcpVy0l_74V4XtT7AJhb2dchPdvT-.html For most of my lessons I incorporate solfege in them one way or another!
It’s an ongoing process, you will need to keep doing it to maintain the skill! I’d say do it daily any in a few months it’ll be more clear. But to get it immediately will take longer
Hey yes, we alter it slightly when we flatten or sharpen notes from the major scale. You should visit my website to download my 'solfege-harmony guide' under the resources tab. You'll have all the information there!
Sir I can play any melody just by hearing.......but I cannot play any chords just by hearing....... which makes it difficult for me to combine chords with melody for fingerstyle.......I have to Google the chords for every songs, which I really don't want to😭........ please if possible provide a video explaining "how to find chord just by hearing".......❤️love from 🇮🇳INDIA🇮🇳
Hey sir, sending blessings to India from Singapore! Yes hearing chord progressions is another skill to be learnt and practised. I will see if I can create a video on that in the future. In the meantime, you should try to listen out for the bass note of each chord. Try to listen and sing it, in any octave. Then find out what that bass note is in solfege. This will give you many clues as to what that chord is!
Hi Imran, they are two completely difference musical styles and cultures. There are endless differences, but one very stark difference is the use and development of harmony in western music. Harmony is a key and integral component of western music, whereas in Indian classical music the concept of harmony is almost non-existent, and because of this melody and rhythm is able to develop to astoundingly intricate and complex levels.
Yes 😊 you need to be able to match the pitch of the notes produced on the guitar. And very importantly your guitar needs to be in tune! But most people will be able to match pitch, not perfectly all the time, but closely enough. Just keep practicing
@@neilchanmusic Sadly whenever i sing i sing completely wrong notes for example when i try to sing C i often sing F or something. Its not that im tone deaf its just... i dont know. but anyway thanks for your comment😊
@@dualityofsoul3841 Do you have anyone who can help you check if you are singing the right notes when practicing? Maybe just a friend, doesn't have to be a musician or teacher, just someone to get a second opinion on whether you are singing the notes on pitch :) that should be helpful at this stage
@@neilchanmusic at the current point im using a tuning app to see what im singing. It might not be the best to use but i can still that im definitely not singing the correct notes but yeah about your question: i dont really friends or anything i could get help from but im thinking of going to sometype of singing lessons soon so hopefully i will get some help there🙂
@@dualityofsoul3841 actually the tuning app is a great idea :) Another thing you can do is to record yourself singing notes you play on guitar or any instrument. Listen back and see if you're sounding on pitch.

I have a question. For example, in the key of a minor..
Is the a minor will be sung as Do? I or La? vi
Hello, Neil, great to see you.
It starts at the very beginning
when you sing you begin with Do Re Mi!
Are you doing a series on this?

Can I play by ear if I just learn pentatonic scale?
You can, but you're limiting yourself by just practicing 5 notes. You should at least start with the 7 note major scale!
is it ti or si from my knowledge it's pronounces as si
Both are acceptable. I prefer Ti as each syllable has it's own unique consonant
I’m a country player an really enjoy your videos, thank you very much
Hey Jack, thanks for letting me know that! Encourages me to keep on making more videos and sharing my music and knowledge :)
