End of album "Isn't this where" beginning of album "I came in." It's an endless loop, like all of their albums.

He is trying himself in the trial. He is hearing all the memories, of all the people who contributed to him building layer and layer of the (mental) wall. When he finally has clarity (sanity) he tries himself for what he has done, and finds himself guilty of building the wall. Also--the final line "isn't this where?" connects to the first line of the album "we came in" --alluding to this being circuitous. (well at least that's my take)

"The Wall" refers to the wall of protection that each and everyone of us create for self protection. Tearing down of the wall refers to Pink being exposed to his peers when that protection is removed. This is one of my "go to" Pink Floyd albums and the fact that the end of the album links back to the beginning is genius.

If you get back to Pulse, you should check out the live of Great Gig again. The ladies take turns, and Sam Brown, the first one, is frikkin' incredible.

The album is in 2 parts, each half being separated by the original the first is the first LP, which describes the "bricks" in the events in the characters (known only as "pink") life. Those being the death of his father (this is more specifically stated in a song that was cut in the final release to shorten the album to 2 LPs called "when the tigers broke free" later released on the album "the final cut"), his overbearing mother, school, world war 2, greed (again, original song cut. It was originally named "what shall we do now?" And was released on the pink floyd collection album), fame, sex, drugs, rock and roll, and last, the leaving of his wife. This is where he finally completes his wall, saying his last goodbyes in "goodbye cruel world" and this ends the first half of the album.
The second half is basically shit hits the fan. His instant reaction after emotionally solating himself from everyone is a cry for help. (Seen in hey you and is there anybody out there) mostly directed towards his wife. Neither her nor anyone else seems to care (nobody home) and once we get to comfortably dumb, he starts to go into basically a full on psychotic break after the drugs from the song. Keep in mind that it is hard to tell at this point what is "really happening" and what is just happening in his head. He becomes a full on facist dictator. Goes through all of that (not going into detail cause youtube will shadowban me). He sort of breaks out of this delusion (STOP!) and puts himself on trial, reflecting on his actions. He finally tears down his mental wall, letting everyone else see his true self again, the album ending on the same background song that plays in the beginning of the album, as well as ending on the quiet words of "isnt this where"
This is where the famous "twist" starts. The album begins with the quiet words of "we came in?" And the melody previously mentioned. Insinuating that the story told is an infinite loop that will never truly end.

I went to Roger Waters The Wall tour 5 times, 3 times in front, 2 times further back to take in the whole spectrum. Standing in front you can feel the energy so strongly and with the wall almost falling on top of you it was just a breathtaking experience. Even though the previous albums have better songs when you break it down, I just love The Wall and have listened to it countless times. The journey it takes you on is just unlike any other album.

You still have Dark Side of the Moon album to do, you should also check out the song 2112 by Rush, as well as the Necromancer. And you could finish off the Black Sabbath Paranoid album, you have already done the first two songs : War Pigs and Paranoid. By the way, the album was originally supposed to be called War Pigs (first track) but the record company decided that was maybe a bit too provocative, so they called the album Paranoid instead.

Roger doing ALL the voices in the trial Lol. As I'm sure it's been explained by now, the trial takes place in his emotionally wrecked brain. Essentially reviewing the bricks that led up to his mental imprisonment and then finally letting himself off the hook for all the bad warped thoughts and deeds that has brought him to this point in life. The verdict/sentence, tear down the wall and set yourself free.
    "Isn't this where...
    ... we came in?
(end and beginning of the album)

Personally one of my top favorite albums. I thank the comment section for all the info on the album. Yes, watch the movie.
On another vein, have you tried any Alice Cooper yet?

Yep you're wrong. Pink is sentenced to be exposed before his peers. Tear down the wall!, says the judge. But the album doesn't end. The first and last words are an audience member watching the story play out.
The story of Pink is a very dark extension of what Waters has written all the way back to the Meddle album and in some instances before. It is amazingly cohesive. Roger Waters is a very driven individual and his career shows it. Contrast that with someone like Syd Barrett who preferred to life in a little fantasy world of paint and pixies. He didn't like the harsh lights of the music business so he walled himself off. As Roger says on The Dark Side of The Moon. There are many things to fret over; time, money, death etc. But we each must meet those challenges and over come them. Don't trade your heroes for ghosts or except a lead roll in a cage or like Pink, make a walled off world where he is the absolute leader. Or as Hamlet says, " I could be bounded in a nutshell and consider myself king of infinite space." For Roger walling oneself off from the hardships of life is its own private hell. Pink in his head (and the whole album plays inside Pink's head over and over) thinks he is the master of his own space but he isn't. His mind takes him to very dark and unpleasant places. In the end his mind tells him he needs to snap out of it. But he has to drive himself to do it otherwise it just plays over and over.

I know the last three songs complete the thematic story of the album, I get that, but I’ve always thought all three were crap and bring the album down. I’ve never enjoyed how this album ends. So as a piece of art, yeah I guess it works, but there was WAY too much Roger in the end and not enough of the other band members. And I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times. I feel like Pink Floyd as a bend literally ends with Run Like Hell, then it was just Roger through the end of the album and into The Final Cut

Roger's dominance started with Animals, which is why David doesn't care too much for that album even though many fans love it. The Wall, except for CN and RLH, is completely Roger's baby. He made a demo of it playing it all the way through (in very rough form of course) and played it to the band. Band relations really went downhill during the recording with Richard Wright even being kicked out of the band only to be hired back as a session musician for the tour. He only properly joined the band again after Roger left.

@@PickupthePieces76 I agree with you guys. Gilmour also wrote the music for Young Lust btw. It amazes me that he even lets David sing on this! He was an arrogant arse!

I agree with previous comments that the end of this album is all about Roger Waters and the rest of the band are virtually absent. If you want to continue your Pink Floyd theme there’s still Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell to look at. Otherwise why not do Radiohead’s OK Computer. Pure genius in my opinion.
