I've watched this whole game more than once and yes England were very good. But I have seen the All Blacks take much bigger hidings than this and come back and win the game. It is definitely one of their strengths to let the opposition wear themselves out against them. What was odd about this game is that there were 3-4 times during the match where the All Blacks got the ball to start a counter attack and every time I've seen them like that they score but in this game they just looked like they didn't have a plan. Their counter attacks petered out very quickly and then England turned it on again. I'm really not trying to have a crack at either side here but I do think the English were not as good as their press made them out to be after that game, I feel like they got a lot of help from an All Blacks side that was unusually off it's game. With their record of success you can't really blame them for having an off-day every decade or so. I also think what happened to England a week later goes some way to supporting my point of view. Not only could they not sustain the game they had played but they didn't have the firepower up front. The Springboks had an arguably more draining game the week before. Although not as flashy it was an absolute arm wrestle. Wales' game plan was to make it as hard as possible for the Springboks to take even one step forward. And of course there is the point Rassie has stated that because of their depth he could rotate the players more and therefore had a fresher forward pack. It was an exciting game of rugby but I feel like a lot more has been made of the result than what was actually there.
@@anglotim True. I liked how Rassie summed it up. He said that Eddie Jones had 4 years to prepare England to play the All Blacks but only 1 week to get them ready to play against the Boks. Congratulations to the England team. My team got well and truly beaten by a better team on the day. No excuses from NZ fans. The England team played fantastic and thoroughly deserved their victory. Good luck in the final next week.
Something didn't feel right in NZ's game from the start. I felt like the players were nervous, they made so many handling errors and bad passes which I'm sure we can all say is rare coming from the All blacks... I'm looking forward to hearing more about the players' perspective on the game. Also I'm not the best analyst but it seemed to me that the AB had no gameplan a bit like England in against Wales in nations this year. In any case I'm sure the next game between these two giants won't be as one sided but will be as memorable!

@@madhavmittal7332 by a fluke, don't understand why they couldn't play another super over when the scores were tied again. Since when is a game let alone a final decided on most boundaries instead of wickets?
@Darius Beaumont no, I'm saying that England won that game against the all blacks fair and square. Cause I'm sick of people complaining about the ref was getting paid to make England win, well England scored 3 trys and the ref didn't include 2 of them. So don't be a sore loser. Fool
@@theoilandgasresourceportal2132 Yes as an Englishman I think the calls were fine. Rules haven't changed but the attention to detail has. That's the only difference.
@shaun king I was disappointed in the failure to pick up those forward passes late in the game too. It really would have dropped the kiwis heads more and reinforced the fact they had a shocker. However, the game was over by then. Obviously they wanted to redeem a bit of pride.
The tackle on Jordi Barrett is the KEY moment of the match. There are over 20 minutes to play and it is a 1-score game at the time (13-7). NZ panic & try to run out of their own 22; rather than kick to touch, re-form defense and defend a line-out. Instead Eng turn over possession, (eventually) kick 3pts & it’s a 2-score game again! Lesson: NZ panicked too early; (just like v Fra in 2007).
I've watched the highlights about six times now, simply blown away at how good we were. Credit to the Kiwi's for taking it like they have, I guess they couldn't argue as we were that good. Well done to all concerned!
Brilliant! I don't usually watch but this was special. We are all in such a mess at home its a relief to see England achieving something great against the top masters of the game. Fantastic for our morale. Thank you!
Just wanted to point out that if you watch the lead up to the penalty just before the end of the first half for England you will notice that there are 2 or 3 times that an All Black player enters the ruck from the side. I'm a Bok supporter but if England play like this in the final the Boks better take their game up a few notches if they want to stand a chance to win. England really looked amazing in this game. They played a near perfect game of rugby here. Very impressive. New Zealand looked out of sorts in this game, shell shocked I think. Well done England, looking forward to the final.
Joe Matthew Thanks for the appreciative comments for England from a Bok. It may not be that easy for England in the final. I fear a surprise but hope not. Best wishes.
What a match-up! One of Rugby's classic rivalries. I mean even the kits are black and white like cowboys in an old western. I've always had respect for New Zealand, and the dignity they showed in losing here just goes to prove how deserving they are of it. I'm sure they look forwards to the rematch whenever that comes and I'm sure they'll bring their best. I only hope our boys can withhold whatever the Kiwi's throw at us!
Yes , you are right Antoine, the AB's had to lose, because if they had won this RWC it would be bad for rugby, winning RWC twice in succession was enough,.so someone had to beat them for the sake of the game.
England may well have played their most impressive game ever on this day. It was virtually faultless and so much so that NZ were dead on their feet at the end. fascinating and a privilege to watch
Yep, the first semi-final was utterly gripping, the second was a turgid kick fest (and poor kicking too) of anti rugby. It looked like both teams were so scared of losing they were afraid to play. It was truly dire, especially in contrast with the first semi.
What a game, as an Englishman I thought it was one of the best performances ever. There are no easy wins against the All Blacks, Steve Hanson showed great character post match interview.
Errrm... You're not speaking for me here Floyd! While England played one of their best games ever, our forwards just didn't turn up. Embarrassing from them really to not counter-punch and lay the platform for Smith and his backs to do their work...
Awful call by disallowing the second try. The ball fell vertically, just cause the player was in front doesn't mean the body part the ball hit was in front. Next they'll be saying it's forward pass based on where the player is not were the hands that complete the catch are???
@@dpcater I guess that's the thing. Is there no offside in a maul. I saw the loose ball touched by the player behind and then regathered by the player in front. No offside but a CLEAR knock on then. So, whatever
As an England fan I can confirm the call was technically correct. You can't pass the ball forward in the maul. I've never seen a similar call though, so it feels a tad harsh, but it was correct. Shame the officials missed a bunch of NZ forward passes though. Other than that I thought Nigel Owens had a good match and let the game flow.
agree(...more fun than footy..). I'm from northern England but have lived in nz for 40 years and i'd much rather watch a RU game now, since they sped the game up by changing the rules on releasing the ball in a tackle etc. Northern England has no idea, in general, about RU, it's all 80% football- 17% RL- 3% every other sport, haha. Living in nz has taught me to thoroughly understand and appreciate the modern game, though as i say, only 'cos they dragged the game out of the beer-swillin' blood and guts shitfest it used to be. Super tough athletes these guys are nowadays...bout time
The second refused try is an embarassement for the referees and TMO. If you start doing that then you can cancel half the tries in the whole rugby history when it involved a maul.
Kind of felt like the TMO was actively trying to find reasons to deny England tries- the first one was probably about right (70/30) but the second was ridiculous
Eddie Jones : an illustrious career. He took Australia to the 2003 World Cup. In 2007, he was assistant coach for South Africa. In 2019, he took England to the World Cup. Not to forget his time with Japan, who created an upset by beating South Africa in the 2015 World Cup.

@Maori Boy they hardly choked, the ref didn't see the ball going forward after it being striped. And how often do the AB do illegal rugby but get away with it

13:40 was a try if you watch closely both the England players had their arm round the ball to start with then both lose control it's just that the guy in front ends up with it it wasn't one dropped it and the other caught it.
peter duran It can’t be a forward pass if no pass is made. You’re allowed to hand the ball on to a player in front of you provided you both have control of it at the same time.
My thought was it was a knock on, because both players had control, both lost control, then the player from behind knocked it forward to the back leg of the player in front who then gathered it. My heart sank when it was disallowed & I was always tense that the All Blacks could get back in it right up to 75 minutes, but thankfully we dominated a lot more than I thought we would. What a game!
Happy it wasn't awarded. It would have provided the kiwis an excuse to whinge they were hard done by the Ref and TMO. Kiwis were now beaten fair and square. No gifted tries, no dodgy penalties, no cards.
I thought the ball clearly dropped from one person and caught by the other, which makes it a pass. I could be wrong but that's what I saw. It was the first time however I have seen it penalised though.

Right at the very end of this titanic battle of giants, two England players helped a New Zealand player to his feet, the respect these two teams have for each other continued right up to the end of the game...fantastic ..other sports could learn from these professional sportsmen on how to play at the highest level and still have total respect....

In any case I'm sure the next game between these two giants won't be as one sided but will be as memorable!
its easy to love the all blacks not just for their all round mastery of rugby, their skill and flair but for how gracious and complimentary they are in defeat. no excuses. just well wishes for the better team on the day. have not seen one negative comment from a new zealand fan and i think i speak for everyone when i say they are a credit to the sport 👍

@@johnnydoak345 that was on reed. Not Jordie barrett.
The tackle on Jordi Barrett is the KEY moment of the match. There are over 20 minutes to play and it is a 1-score game at the time (13-7).
NZ panic & try to run out of their own 22; rather than kick to touch, re-form defense and defend a line-out.

Just wanted to point out that if you watch the lead up to the penalty just before the end of the first half for England you will notice that there are 2 or 3 times that an All Black player enters the ruck from the side. Currently rugby fans here in New Zealand are in awe of English Rugby. Never thought I'd see that Ever!...
You may not pass to a player who is in front of you. If it is not a forward pass then it is obstruction. Either way the call was correct.
But the same guy who ends up holding it, his hand never left the ball.
The player behind touched the ball when it was loose and then regathered by the player in front. Knock on or accidental offside, take your pick

13:40 was a try if you watch closely both the England players had their arm round the ball to start with then both lose control it's just that the guy in front ends up with it it wasn't one dropped it and the other caught it.
But effectively it's a forward pass, I've never seen it given in a maul though
peter duran It can’t be a forward pass if no pass is made.
