Ordered a refurbished set for 279.. been practicing / working my way up from beginner models to currently a Holystone gps drone.. I have a Mavic and a Phantom 3 standard that I haven't flown yet.. the goggles will be amazing! The clunky phone interface is annoying.. thanks for the quality review!
Justin, beautiful narrative. I've been flying a Phantom 4 for a while now and should be getting my Goggles tomorrow. Your video was very informative. Your dog is adorable!
⚠️ THANK YOU! Honest reviews are not readily found on UA-cam as of late. I am a relative newbie to the whole world of droning and almost every one of my purchases has been due to one of your reviews. Thanks for maintaining integrity in a world in which your mailbox will be filled with toys, both good and bad...with the expectation that they will always receive positive reviews. I am going with the dji RE goggles as I have a Mavic 2 and a M2Zoom which use occusync2. 👍🏻🙂 Btw: Anyone out there with a physical disability or injury should look at the aerial or cinematic drones as a way to escape pain and lack of mobility and gain better dexterity and coordination. The Mavic 2 series is ideal because if you have an issue that temporarily makes you unable to control the drone, generally you can just let go of the sticks and the drone will just hover awaiting your command..
Thanks you answered a question right up front, Drone Compatibly. I feel like when i pay that much for something i don't want to be stuck to using it with just one device.
I have a pair, and if you have tried them, then you too will be amazed. Every one I've let watch through them were amazed as well. Yes they are large, but just like every tech shit, they will shrink. This pair up is my favorite drone setup right now! Not a heart pounder like a race quad. But SMOOOTH like Cadillac lol. Great product DJI
I would suggest to keep your phone connected just in case of any crash and you need the "find my drone" option as well as follow the video saved on your phone.
Awesome video! I just got a pair myself and can’t wait to get up in the air. I’m using these with my Mavic Air for my channel and using them for work shots
HI mate getting my first drone in the next few days (dji) and one thing I really want to experience is the feeling of (slowish) flying even if it is for half an hour or of flight time hopefully these googles will give me some kind of motor paragliding feeling :) bit too old and fragile to do the real thing haha Great video and thanks for the honest review! Cheers
There's no 120fps setting on the DJI Goggles btw. The DJI specs you quote on @RCSchim's comment are wrong. The 3 available resolutions for the DJI Gogs are 720@30p 720@60p & 1080@30p
As a home inspector that needs to look at roofs of varying height and pitch, would you see this setup as a viable option for inspection and for taking photos of the possible issues? We often need to see if shingles are deteriorated or have rips. Also roof tiles are very fragile so walking on them is a NO NO..
Just got a pair... woohoo! I wear glasses, and really love the DJI Goggles. A million times better than using the app. I use them for flying drones, but also for watching movies / games from my pc and laptop. The dual 1080p full width / FOV screens are cleverly composited using polarized optics... so from 100m up you can see a seagull's wing flapping on the ground. At 1.5km out the image is crystal clear with no disconnects.
Awesome review Justin, thanks for putting them side by side with the FatSharks for comparison. I wasn’t sure which set of these I preferred but now I’m leaning toward the DJI Goggles.
I don't think you mentioned that with the goggles and remote only (no phone connected), you're forced to stay in the beginner mode. This was my discovery when I tried my new goggles for a first time today that the flying range was limited by 50 meters around me. To disable this mode, you need to connect your phone, log in in the Go app. Apparently DJI introduced this "feature" recently. Unfortunately, if I still need my phone every time I'm flying, it is a big hassle. My initial excitement fades away. Also, if you're right handed like me, you always be accidentally touching the pad and the keys with you hand if you want to lift the goggles up. Another thing, it is really huge and heavy, not something you'd take with you when hiking or kayaking.
First thing I did with my Phantom 3 Pro was make up a long custom hood that wraps around my face with a foam fit, to block out ALL light. I fitted it with a big pair of strong granny glasses to magnify the iPad mini 2 screen (it has a cutout at the bottom where I can pop my hand through a split foam piece to use the touchscreen). I can't believe anyone would want to fly a DJI drone with a tiny phone in sunlight. I have also flown the Phantom with my Fatshark HD goggles connected by hdmi, but the magnified iPad screen is so much sharper and bigger, I never bother now.
You sold me on the goggles by speaking to me biggest HATE of drone flight... sun on the display. Can't wait to make it easy to line up my shots. Thank you!
FYI - the scales were still in 'lb' (iimperial) mode when you weighed the FatShark goggles and battery - so total weight was 0.860lb - not 860g - so their total weight was actually around 390g.
Very helpful review. For some reason I was under the impression that it *could* be configured to receive analog 5.8 GHz video, without any extra hardware. Thanks for clearing this up.
Great Review. I do like the idea that the goggles don't record. The recording is done from drone camera straight to the drone SD Card, no interference. If the goggle recorded you would be dependent on the signal strength for some of the quality of your recording. That is removed this way. Whatcha think? Am not so worried about a backup recording I guess. Anyway, a backup on the goggles would not be of a high quality I feel also.
If DJI GO4 and Litchi are both residents on either the phone or the tablet to control the drone, how can you use a flight mode like waypoints without using a phone or tablet? Thanks for answering my newbie Q.
You "could" use the DJIs for other systems if connected via HDMI (future HD video transmission), or connect analogue video to a HDMI converter (but that gives you latency). You can also connect Dominators to HDMI and see DJI lightbridge (but not occusync)... You cant stream 720p120 on the goggles (or did I miss a new firmware?). Latency is actually higher than advertised... and it increases when you start recording, but it's lower on the goggles vs. the phone. Yep, I also wished that the HDMI was OUT as well (to show Mavic downlink on a TV...) About the recording: that's the reason I still use the phone (since it captures all the flightdata which I can also upload to airdrones and analyse it there... It helps that I use an android phone (these are charged by the remote and dont get emptied so quick - but then again - the remote does :) Solution: powerbank to the remote if you really need long flighttimes... But in the end - I thought you had found more negative points - think you were as stunned by the image quality as I am. greets, Mario
Looking at these to use with fpv.blue, once compatibility is confirmed. But also interested in whether they will work with an analogue>digital converter to use with all my 5.8 fixed wings, not concerned about lag - have you tried this out?
@RCschim: did you measure the latency of the DJI goggles if you use them via HDMI? I am asking as I am using the Connex Prosight HX and I am still looking for a goggle that offers 720p@60fps with good screen size, resolution and low latency.
Will they work with the mavic air 2....I've never seen that button on the drone but I will look again. Also, is there a range limit on them? Thanks for this review.
Great review, great photography and perfect editing. This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and I'm very impressed. After seeing this I'm very comfortable ordering these goggles. Thanks so much.
With or without glasses, I cannot get these to focus. I'm near sighted and they still have never been crisp with my eyesight and reading glasses won't help me. Hoping to find a use for these at some point. Great quality and more comfortable than you would expect due to the size. Thank you for the great review.
Hi, nice review! question. can you use DJI googles and the phone or ipad at the same time? so if i have a problem with conection or something else you can bring back the drone without problems, thanks!
Now you can use the DJI goggles with any fvp quad. You do have to buy an additional ocuSync air unit, ocuSync camera, and antena, but the setup will work.
Glad I came across this one.. I've had drones for 5 years or so and never had an FPV although I have used a racing quad with a runcam attached.. (for recording) Got a Mavic air in the last 2 weeks and so far I love it.. and the phone battery on my S5 (even with a new one) can get drained pretty fast.. especially in near freezing temps... plus my phone if it gets too cold can lockup and shut down which isn't good. As long as these don't "crash" like a phone can they'd be awesome! I could hook up my phone and just keep the brightness to the absolute minimum if needed which would keep the phone battery running for WAY longer than I could possibly fly. I believe I read where you have to at least connect the mavic / or air to the app before take off or you are limited to a certain flight distance.
Lovely review Justin.....well done....down to earth and efficient..im filming the land speed record next weekend with the goggs. and cine cams....I enjoyed your review...I like your style....its grounded and to the point....its what people want.....well done you mate....good channel too....diggin it....best wishes from uk .......a little idea for ya......what ive truly leant from shooting in factories and uncomfortable locations is without the goggles and say just. big iPad monitor is you can never get the true depth of field and a genuine scope of how close you are hovering before and object...if you can do a feed or record you could do a vid showing how the goggles professionally allow you to get a grip on how close you can fly beside an object say for doing an engineering shoot on a tower or building......just a thought ....your work is good ....Al
Once again your taking me to school bro. Thanks. I'm wondering if I can use the goggles other than my iPad Air 2. The reason I was looking at these goggles is that I'm having so much issues with sun and glare when I fly with the tablet.
Great video thanks. You mentioned the head tracking in the review but not during your flight test. It’s something that I’m particularly interested in for me to purchase. Did you use that feature much while flying? How well does the camera track your head movement? Is there much of a delay between moving your head and the camera moving?
BIG QUESTION about Googles. Do they make you sick like VR games? My friend has HTC Vive and just after three minutes I was sick for entire day. My head was spinning like a turbine. So will these googles make the same effect?
Justin, I just got a Mavic Air 2. I went to DJI tech support and chatted with a tech. He told me there are no Goggles available for the mavic Air and they (DJI) do not recommend flying the Mavic Air 2 with any goggle at this time. Im super bummed. Is there any way to pair the old origional DJI Goggle to the new Mavic Air 2 controller... if so, is it stable and compatible? TJ
Awesome review, thanks for makeing me even more sure, that it's the right choice to invest in a pair of these. You said in the video that you were doing another video with the Spark - is it ready yet?
Great Video!! I noticed when you were flying at the beach you had no cable hooked up to the Goggles. Does the signal go over wifi? Keep up the good work!
Great video, I ordered my Mavic with goggles and will be getting them on the 4th, Have you tried the goggle gimble tracking yet and how did it work. I would like to pan with head movement while flying. I fly Rc Heli by waypoint and pan with head movements, it would be great if I could accomplish this with the new setup. Also, can goggles send signal to external phone or monitor?
Hi, do you know if the new digital fpv goggles from dji to be used with the air unit can be or will be (with a firmware update for instance) compatible with dji drones such as the Mavic air ? Thanks in advance
Hey Justin, thanks for another honest review, another great video. I've been a subscriber and fan for sometime now and although I don't own anything you review and probably will not be buying anything soon (retired) but still enjoy and appreciate your work. Just wondering, do these goggles link to the UAV or to the controller? I'm sure that would make a huge difference on the distance they would work. I do own (after saving for some time) a Yuneec Q500+ that I bought a couple of years ago and a few toy grade UAV's, mostly indoor flyers, and would like to see an honest review on the Yuneec. When I bought it there were only a couple quick reviews but enough to convince me to get it. The only down side to having it that it's big and bulky and so becoming disabled shortly after it's arrival I've only flown it a couple of times. I do love the stability of the video it captures and at the time it was the best (in my option) aerial video/photo platform available at the time. But with it's size and my disability wish I could trade it for a Mavic even if I'm no DJI fan. LOL *Dance the Skies*
Nice review, I'm about ready to pull the trigger. Amazon is selling refurbished ones for $299, which is pretty irresistible, especially with being able to return at Kohl's is they don't work for me, and 12-month equal pay at 0% with my Amazon VISA. The planets are aligned!
Thanks for the video. Hey is there a way to use the goggles for viewing only without remapping the controls? I would like to put them on a friend sometimes to just take them for a ride but then I realize my controls have all changed and I cant zoom from the remote for one thing. Of course a friend will not know how to use the goggle controls. I just want to use them as a monitor for someone else and fly using my phone without changing my controls.
Nice Review. I will comment that each eye is not presented with a full view of the "screen". The nose bridge blocks a portion of the screen from each eye. This is barely noticeable if you have good visual acuity in both eyes. If you have poor "reading vision" (even with correction) in one eye there will be part of the screen that will not be readable - this is in contrast to say looking at your computer monitor which both eyes have access to - or to a set of 3D VR goggles that present a complete image to both eyes. Also, the touch screen does not present a "mouse pointer" which would be very helpful for feedback. If I am missing something here, please let me know, thanks!
what sort of information do you see on the goggles by tapping the function button and scrolling on the side. that would be helpful to know. I want to buy a drone but after hearing what you were saying about not being able to see the shots very well with the phone that is my biggest concern. my understanding is you need to be able to fly line of sight for non-commercial use another words recreational user. by having the goggles on I feel that it takes away the line of sight portion of that rule since you don't know if anybody is around you or going to walk in front of you what is your thoughts on that. also do they work for the DJI Maverick air
Dude, how has no one mentioned that you were still on lbs when you weighed your FatSharks? DJI was 2.25lbs and FatShark with battery was still under 1lbs
The weight might not be an issue if it's distributed well. If most of the weight is in that screen in the front, then it's a problem, but if the weight is distributed in the circular part that sits on top of the head, which I believe is since the battery is there (and it would be a smart thing to do), then it's not a big deal.
Allow me to do this - I meant to write in my previous comment. I understand it will be for VIEWING the video ONLY and that the goggles (movement of head etc) will NOT actually operate the Phantom 3 pro. I can put up with this controlling the Phantom 3 from the handset (controller) while viewing the results via the goggle sand NOT needing to rely on my iPad as at present which is useless in sunny weather. Am I correct in my assumptions.
Thanks again, Jason. I always enjoy your in-depth reviews. One question: Have you done, or could you do a review of the Syma SkyZone SKY-01 V2 FPV AIO Goggles 5.8G 32CH Head Tracing Glasses? Thanks in advance.
Perhaps you could write Syma a well worded request? Remember, "If you don't ask, the answer is always no." If they do say yes, think of me in the giveaway... ;-P
Can these standard Dji goggles work with the iFlight Bumblebee HD CineWhoop PNP BNF FPV Racing Drone that has the DJI Digital FPV System built on board???
Here is a dumb question, but one I cannot find the answer. If you wear glasses, do you use a lens for near or far? I suspect you want reading classes to help see up close (far sighted), correct?
not a dumb question at all. NO, you do not want reading glasses, just as with say the Oculus Rift you need the glasses you normally wear to see far away because your eyes focus at infinity in a headset like this.
Good job with your UA-cam videos. Recently acquired P4P+ and DJI Goggles RE. Don’t intend to Race, primarily for aerial photography for our Real Estate business. Interested in the connection capabilities with the P4P+ and RE Goggles - must it be Wired with USB cable or is there Wireless capability with P4P+. ?? Jim Wilson, Boca Raton, FL, USA.
hi there just wanted to know what the dji goggles would be like flying the drone in sports mode, would the view be just as sharp and high quality ? or would i have to buy the dji racing goggles where it looked like you had the drone in basic slow flight mode, i like to fly fast most times but hate looking at my iphone 7 plus screen and not seeing the video because of the glare, i want to feel like im in the air flying and to see the sights.
Thanks for the quick reply,I like to fly high and fast and fly away from objects it might hit,and in a wide open park area, but I really want the Goggles after seeing your video and thanks for the information 👍🏻
Great video Justin. I really like idea that you don't necessarily have to use your phone with these goggles. One quick question though: When flying my Mavic I like using the map with satellite view, is that not possible without the phone?
Just bought a pair. Purchased them with a Mavic pro used. I’ve been dreaming of this all my life and it’s here! Thanks for the review!

A rare thumbs up for your more truly HONEST reactions ... like the UTTER lack video recordability from within the micro SD slot.
Nice vid man. I still can't quite figure out why DJI made them so big though. Are they rear projection or something /s/

Chad its for watching the card from the drone
The Price is Right, every Thursday at 4
That was worth watching, thanks... so what is the SD slot used for?
@Ryan Corsaut Wow, so you take the SD out of the drone and insert it in the goggles... that's a bit disappointing. Thanks for the response.

+RCSchim DJI specs says 720p @ 60 and 120
Looking at these to use with fpv.blue, once compatibility is confirmed.

Great Video!! I noticed when you were flying at the beach you had no cable hooked up to the Goggles. Does the signal go over wifi? Keep up the good work!
How was your experience with the Spark? I'm interested in this combo.
Great review. One question. Does this give you motion sickness like in the Samsung gear headsets?
I don’t get motion sickness. But some people do maybe?
the last portion of your video at the beach was all on the Pro correct? have you noticed any bad quality video? choppy movements? etc?
Hi, do you know if the new digital fpv goggles from dji to be used with the air unit can be or will be (with a firmware update for instance) compatible with dji drones such as the Mavic air ? Thanks in advance
Perfect review! Thanks for your time, really nicely done!
Hello! are the fat shark compatible with the Mavic 2 pro?
LOL

Great review, thank you! What case are you using to hold the goggles and Mavic?
I'm really asking why there's pretty much no info about DJI LiPo batteries in their products such as the RC controlers for to the drones.
Are these compatible with the dji mini mavic drone?
Can you tell me what case you are using for the mavic, and goggles? Thanks in advance.
very helpfull!! sub for sure. thanks for sharing your knowlege i appreciate the content
Dude, how has no one mentioned that you were still on lbs when you weighed your FatSharks? DJI was 2.25lbs and FatShark with battery was still under 1lbs
1018g vs 390g
huge difference. The dji goggles are a brick!
I noticed that too. Still a good review!
The weight might not be an issue if it's distributed well. If most of the weight is in that screen in the front, then it's a problem, but if the weight is distributed in the circular part that sits on top of the head, which I believe is since the battery is there (and it would be a smart thing to do), then it's not a big deal.
I know! I freaked when I saw that and then immediately scrolled down to check out the comments!
Dudes got a fishing pole in the water and a bird in the air... only thing missing is me!!.. Awesome review
Great review I am visually impaired and I think this may make flying a whole lot more fun Thanks
Considering these instead of a tablet to use with my air. The phone text is just too tiny on my phone
@ 6:20 you talk about the sd card not recording, then what is it for? @ 6:50 HDMI port, what would I want to send IN??
Thanks for the thorough review of the DJI goggles. They seem like the willing be an excellent addition to enhance the flying experience.
Just an update to an old video. iPhone 8XR can easily burn through 4 flights running DJI app with plenty of charge left.
Nice vid but can you make a vid with the pre flight set up including the compass calibration with no mobile device?
13:58... Where did you get that Awesome Case to hold the Mavic and Googles ??
lasersbee Yes I need that case for my mavic air and googless....
Do you know if these goggles compatible with the Mavic Pro 3?
Question?? I have these for my mavic pro is it worth upgrading to the RE I only fly the mavic and won't due 5.8 thanks BP
Thanks again, Jason. I always enjoy your in-depth reviews. One question: Have you done, or could you do a review of the Syma SkyZone SKY-01 V2 FPV AIO Goggles 5.8G 32CH Head Tracing Glasses? Thanks in advance.
I would like to if I can get a chance to get those. Sure thing.
Kewl. Thanks again for your quick reply. I'll keep watching for it.
Perhaps you could write Syma a well worded request? Remember, "If you don't ask, the answer is always no." If they do say yes, think of me in the giveaway... ;-P
Very in depth - thanks for sharing!
Can these standard Dji goggles work with the iFlight Bumblebee HD CineWhoop PNP BNF FPV Racing Drone that has the DJI Digital FPV System built on board???
The PC activation was really easy... much faster than using the other connection. If that's biggest drawback, you should hardily recommend it. I do.
Will the racing goggles work for regular high-altitude drones for cinematic photography?
yes
Hey Justin, thanks a lot for this nice review. I'm going to buy me a set of those goggles 😄
?? Jim Wilson, Boca Raton, FL, USA.
are the new ones better? Can those also be used for pc games?
hi there just wanted to know what the dji goggles would be like flying the drone in sports mode, would the view be just as sharp and high quality ? or would i have to buy the dji racing goggles
where it looked like you had the drone in basic slow flight mode,
i like to fly fast most times but hate looking at my iphone 7 plus screen and not seeing the video because of the glare,
i want to feel like im in the air flying and to see the sights.
+neal addison it would be fine In Sport mode. Unless your zipping through low lying trees etc in close proximity you want the race goggles.
Thanks for the quick reply,I like to fly high and fast and fly away from objects it might hit,and in a wide open park area, but I really want the Goggles after seeing your video and thanks for the information 👍🏻
+neal addison yeah you would be totally fine. They are awesome
that smile on the end says enough doesn't it? 1 question about this, can you use the goggles in pair with the phone app so others can watch with you?
+Erik Joosten I think you can
You can even have two goggles!
Thanks for the honest review. We need those as it's a lot of money to invest in all this gear.
I noticed you were not connected via cable? I just ordered mine for use on my DJI AIR. I thought u have to have the cord connected to the radio?
karatohongkongcat they connect with the original Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro Platinum via Occusync. No cable is necessary for those 2.
I want to use these to shoot real estate. Thoughts?
Great video Justin. I really like idea that you don't necessarily have to use your phone with these goggles. One quick question though: When flying my Mavic I like using the map with satellite view, is that not possible without the phone?
as I recall: no map on the goggles
Quick question can these googles be hacked and bring a FPV Analogue signal via the HDMI Imput?
Can we use these goggles with Xiaomi Mi 4K Drone? It's comparable to the DJI Phantom 3.
