    Phenomenal video. I've got the bug. The midi to LR bug! I have spent the past 3 days watching every video I can find. I ended up purchasing a Xtremist bundle, which includes the controller (the same as yours here) and Phixer software, from Pusher Labs. They send you the controller, already configured and set up to work with LR. They also offer the same controller you have, which is great. The Xtremist is their top of the line now, and they Phixer software is really slick and sofisticated. It even lets you map up to 16 regions on your mouse pad to whatever you want it to do. I cannot wait to get it!! My question is - how can you take the controller (whichever you get) and make it control Final Cut Pro or Photoshop CC?? Thanks and again - awesome video. You captured it perfectly.

      I tried out Pfixer before settling on Midi2LR. It was a solid program, Midi2LR just worked better for me.
      Both Pfixer and Midi2LR rely on programming that is already built into Lightroom itself. That functionality isn't built into FCP or Photoshop, so you can't use a simple midi controller for those programs.
      There are dedicated hardware/software systems that are designed to be used with photoshop and with FCP, but they are quite expensive.

      its free but donating is the least a professional can do. midi2lr and lightroom classic are extremely fast. Pfixer is slow , pretty much zero support and updates. Thats what you pay for. Donate to midi2lr and you will be happy.

    Great video Bryan. I have the same controller and am running Pfixer through Pusher Labs. I also just bought a Loupedeck CT and at first couldn’t get the Xtremist to work with it. Now I can and it’s great, although I find with Pfixer, the Xtremist controller does not reliable get recognized by the system. Have you noticed better reliability using Midi2LR with that controller. I thought you mentioned that in your excellent video?

    Hi Bryan. Thanks for this video! Just wanted to ask - are you still using X-Touch Compact, any updates or extra thoughts on this workflow?

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I am still using this setup. I really didn't get too much further into the configuration than this video showed. The simplicity of what I had setup by this point sufficed. I've maybe added a few more controls, but overall it's been great. I've been very cautious not to update MacOS or Lightroom immediately when updates are available because those updates tend to break 3rd party applications like Midi2LR. It's typically safe to wait a few weeks or months for the bug fixes to the updates to be made before applying anything major. Midi2LR's developer has been fantastic at keeping up with the changes necessary to keep the platform supported. This setup is such a time saver that it's really the primary consideration in my wofkflow. I'd love to swtich to Capture One, because it's a drastically better raw editor than LR is (especially for Fuji's RAF files) but there's no support for midi control in that application.

      @@sanguyne Thanks! (after doing some research on this, I must say that your video is still the best for "X-Touch Compact + Lightroom". And the combination looks really nice! Although new colour grading module in Lightroom made me thinking about Tangent Ripple or something similar)
      Capture One - I found several reports from people using Behringer DAW controllers with it via Bome Midi translator. Although configuration of that software doesn't look even close as user-friendly as Midi2LR of Peltmade's LRControl.

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  3 роки тому +1

      @@dimav83 yeah, using bome really only lets you emulate keystrokes as far as I've seen, which is really good, but not nearly as powerful as the direct integration with Midi2LR. Also, I hadn't looked at any LR releases lately - that new color grading does look amazing. It's similar to C1 and pretty much every other pro grading setup - about time they got it. No idea how Midi2LR would handle that. Easiest way would be one dial/slider to control the 'degrees' and a 2nd dial/slider to control the intensity (distance from center).

    hey brian, thanks for the great video. i've just installed midi2lr to work with my x touch compact, but any time i hit anything on the x touch compact, the lr2midi window just closes and the program needs to be restarted. nothing is sent to lr at all (this same thing happens even if lr isn't open). any ideas?? thanks in advance for any help you could give!!

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  6 років тому

      There's some pre-programming that might need to be done with the Behringer X-Touch Editor app (windows only). This app allows you to dictate what midi commands are sent when from the controller and allows you to set button types, for example, is a button a toggle switch or does it send a note. I'd probably need to know a bit more about your system to be of any specific help.

      i'm not sure yet, but it seems like even when i click save to save my profile, nothing ever appears in the profile folder that i've chosen. not sure why I can't get a blank profile to save yet :Z
      Thanks for your reply, if you have any other insights, i'd love to hear them as i'm eager to get this up and running and not really sure where to turn.
      Thanks so much!!

      I do believe you are correct abut the Editor app, the next problem at the moment is that I can't seem to find the .bin files for the X Touch Compact. The only ones i've been able to locate throw error "these are for mini" at the moment. Do you have any advice where to locate the appropriate files??

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  6 років тому

      BIN files are created by exporting settings. So your board already has the defaults. You can try using these though - these are my settings and they work well with Midi2LR. drive.google.com/open?id=1P3vxFWw9xr-ZbdEU6x04lv3qsIyvFAQY

      Bryan, thanks for this. I'm getting an error that this is for a mini (i'm trying to run a COMPACT). I seem to have it setup somewhat, I have a profile loaded, but nothing from the x touch seems to reach midi2lr....If I clear all rows and then move the buttons/dials, nothing shows up in the midi2lr window at all. ughhhh!!

    Hi Bryan, can MIDI2LR do Modes like Pfixer does? How responsive is MIDI2LR compared to Pfixer?

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  6 років тому +1

      I'm nearly positive that Midi2LR can do modes the same way that pfixer does. I do not use that feature because the xtouch compact board has two layers, similar to modes, that gives me more than enough controllers. At the time that I created this video, pfixer had a noticeable lag compared to midi2lr. That was 18 months ago, so it's quite possible that pfixer has rectified that issue.

    • @scottabergermd
      @scottabergermd 5 років тому

      Bryan Shattuck HI Bryan, great video. I purchased the same X-touch compact from Pusher Labs and am using it with Pfixer to control LR. It works great, but sometimes getting a response from Pusher Labs is next to impossible. There is poor documentation on how to best set up the controller in Pfixer, and it really involves a lot of trial and error to custom program it. My question is: have you figured out how to program in a way to use the option key along with the slider that controls masking in the sharpening feature of LR, that overlays the mask for you to be able to see where the sharpening it occurring and where it is being masked out? And also can you use Layer B for a whole other set of controls in MIdi2LR? I cannot figure out hot Od this in Pfixer software and no one is explaining it.

    do you know if can be use on adobe camera raw

    • @sanguyne
      @sanguyne  7 років тому

      Unfortunately it cannot. What makes this possible is that Adobe actually programmed this compatibility into Lightroom. Midi2LR just takes advantage of the groundwork that was already laid. ACR does not have the same capabilities to interface with controllers.

      It's been a few years since I tried Pfixer, but I recall midi2LR being superior in most ways - including having a reliable connection. I've been using Midi2LR now for several years and have only run into a couple of issues with it. Those issues were a result of MacOS or Adobe making updates to their software that then required Midi2LR to be updated to match. Generally, Midi2LR's developer is quick to make updates when necessary. You can really avoid any incompatibilities by waiting a couple of weeks after MacOS or Lightroom updates are released before installing them. Thanks for watching!
