Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY , we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

I like how the guide doesn't seem like a crazy doomsday prepper like you would see on TV. It seems like he just enjoys the process of making the bunkers, building them, giving them a second life, basically a glorified man cave, and the end of the world scenarios is an afterthought.

He lied though, reality is vivos picked up that land for next to nothing (cost per acre out there is vary low, and the bunkers lower it even more). Its kinda a scam because if you read into their "membership" details. Its 35k for membership then 1k a year under a lease with additional 100 month in HOA fee's (for "security" or some shit). If you really want to live in the middle of no where, you can pickup 40 to 60 acre lots all over the country for 35 to 100k. When you buy a house most of that cost is not the house it self, its the land its on and where its located.

I'm sure that there is great satisfaction in knowing that you can live without all of that. I'll bet that the community there in Bunkerville is the best thing about living there. Think of the aggregate skillsets residing in that rather small area. Need an electrician, plumber, doctor, carpenter? They are probably your nearby neighbors.

I'm relatively sure that those buildings were originally designed to not wholly contain an internal blast, rather to keep it from spreading laterally to the next structure. Essentially, the pressure of the blast was intended to shoot upward. Although these structures would offer a greater deal of safety than an average home, they are unlikely to be as strong as suggested in the video. The whole community aspect of the thing is interesting however, and it looks like the target market for such a neighborhood would figure out how to defend themselves from the filthy remnants of humanity that are sure to become roving bands of fallout pirates bent on attacking.

I saw a lot of this back in the late 1950s to mid-1960s, folks going nuts about a nuclear war with Russia. The main problem with these shelters is essentially in two parts: how long are you going to have to stay there, and realistically how much will you actually update your supplies; then there is the issue of how do you actually provide site integrity and safety? First of all stockpiles: how much stuff can you realistically store to protect yourself and your family; how many years are you going to have to live in the shelter, and what will you find when you finally emerge? Then how frequently are you really going to restock the bunker, and how fresh is the food, water, gasoline, etc etc. What we saw back in the day was folks went crazy, built these great shelters, stocked them up with perhaps thousands of dollars of stuff, and then.....waited patiently for the world to go to crap, which never came. So, over time the food expired, the water soured, and the gas no longer burned. Then folks realized that living in a shelter is great, for the time needed to let a tornado pass, but it gets hot and uncomfortable really quick. But the biggest issue is what do you do about your pesky neighbors who watched you build your great shelter, and stock it with food/water/gas and weapons; you only have one entrance - sure you can have several, and even emergency hatches several hundred feet away, but there are clear limits on these. After all, if the bad guys are knocking down your entrance, you probably don't want to pop up out of the ground 30 yards away - giving the bad guys yet another way to get to your goodies. Of course, the other issue is the bad guy just does something as simple as building a fire - in your air exhaust/intake pipe and letting nature take its course. Again, these kinds of shelters are little more than convenient shopping centers where you do not need money. I bet the folks who build these things make a lot of money and you have to wonder if they actually have a shelter for themselves.

I'm sure it's *possible* ... but *feasible* without spending twice what the bunker *and* the re-hab cost, just to maybe have connections to, say, the 3 nearest other bunkers? It'd be *way cool* but I think that's something only the most well-off could pull off! But hey, if you win the lottery, _maybe_ ... 👌 😊

The only issue I have with this community is once you have to seal yourself in the bunker you are still isolated from the rest of the community.
Why not connect them all via underground tunnels and a community center>

$35K for a 75 year old concrete shell with no septic, power or water. I dunno. Unless you know how to put some of this infrastructure in yourself it's probably not as much of a deal as you think.

I'm not a prepper, but I live happily secluded from society. I believe in living in harmony with nature and my existence causing it no harm.
25 years ago, I learned about the thermal efficiency of bermmed 'monolithic concrete domes' and fell in love with the whole concept for off grid. No heating, no A/C, no heavy energy usage, expensive monthly bills, and minimal solar installation costs.
Just add an aquaponic greenhouse for sustainable, organic food, w/o plastics, nor transportation pollution.
BTW, you don't have to 'hide inside your bunker'. I watch the world, including the adventures of Kara and Nate, from wifi.
