Having the generator outside, makes you vulnerable, because anyone that wants to do you harm, can reach it and control your living situation. Better is to have a backup system that can be stored inside with power reserve (solar power station) that kicks in when the generator stops. The fact that you need to leave your bunker to fill up makes the whole family a target.

Roger needs a solar/battery system -- that gas generator is way too loud and will draw attention from desperate neighbors lurking nearby. Also, sunlight is free!
Roger might want to think about installing a homemade periscope near his dog house escape tunnel. That way, he's not exposing himself to unexpected danger.
@@markchromik1761 All proper off-grid solar power systems have backup parts and redundant batteries and panels. LiFeP04 batteries last an extremely long time. My 300ah Ampere Time is rated at 4000 full charge/discharge cycles to 80% remaining capacity. I got it, panels, inverter, and charge controller for emergency power for a small window air conditioner, especially after hurricanes, plus power for my freezer if its backup batteries can`t keep up in the heat. I can do most of my cooking now too from solar with low wattage devices. Lights are the easy part nowadays. I wish I could figure out how to power my electric water distiller from solar but what I have now has already cost a fortune but I`m glad to have it when the power fails.

that "bunker" is a deathtrap.....you can see all the walls buckling from the weight on the sides. those are meant to stack and hold weight vertically. the walls you tried to add support to only have about 10% of the support they should...
How so? Shipping containers are stacked several high full of shipped goods. For months and years at a time. Maybe soil pressure on side, but I don't think the top?
If all these preppers were to unite into a community which extends past their families, their scores would go much higher. I imagine they've considered this and plan to expand later on as they meet like minded neighbors.
She was not a happy camper. 😅 Honestly, I was worried the kid would fall off the freezer. Seems like installing some simple rails on the sides of the beds would be a good idea, to prevent them from falling off.
I am sure that after a couple of times of falling on the floor, she will learn how to judge how far she can roll in bed. I know I did. I used to roll out of bed and it did not take long to learn where the edge was.@@rachelh5211
Many people have commented about the generator. Fact number one: Your preparedness plans are never finished. There is ALWAYS something to improve, something to upgrade, something to learn and practice. Like life, preparing isn't a sprint, it is a marathon. These situations are a snapshot in time. Who knows, 3 months later, he could have had a basic battery/solar setup in place, relegating the genny to a backup to the backup (i.e. city power > solar power > generator backup)
I'm watching this as we're coming up on 48 hours with no electricity after a storm on March 3, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky. That's just one of the reasons I'm a prepper. I have food, water, obviously electrical power, medicine, and protection. Many people have next to nothing. I couldn't live that way......literally.
Even though bunkers that are constructed from shipping containers may seem a good idea what I’ve learnt the dirt around the construction will collapse under pressure or another problem is the water plate in some areas can cause flooding of a shipping container. Now meat wise your better off freezer drying if you can afford a machine.
Actually, we are ALREADY in WWIII. Most people don't realize it though because this fact is intentionally hidden by the media and the politicians to avoid mass panic. If you take a step back and look at the larger picture with the alliances forming, "mysterious" infrastructure fires, substation attacks, increasing train derailments, it becomes crystal clear the gears are well in motion.
I am specifically laughing at the chick who thought getting goats was more practical for clothing than sheep and who thought we might actually run out if clothes considering how many billions of clothes are thrown out each year here 😂
I agree that these peppers are taking a chance on losing their privacy, safety, and security by going on these documentaries and doing these show and tell. But, in previous episodes, several participants had lost points for security in that they were highly or overly prepared but had neighbors who were not. These peppers were encouraged to teach their neighbors to be just as prepared or to be more prepared so that when tshtf, the neighbors will not come raiding and looting. Following advice, the previous preppers started facilitating classes, seminars, and workshops for neighbors and other community members to attend. I hope it is true that if many more people became Doomsday preppers, we will be safe.
I believe people are beginning to see the reality of our current situation. Yes, there are always threats in the world, but nothing like the combination we are seeing now. Unfortunately, too little too late applies to most of the population.
What good is a bunker if you have to go outside all the time to refill the generator. It would make more sense to stay on the surface so you could see people coming onto the property
That's right,,, Behing under its tactically a disadvantage you could get smoked out or even buried/trap under there. Being above ground gives you the options of easier escape and evade if your position gets located/compromised.
The door opening to the outside is a problem. Should have one opening to the inside so you don’t get trapped by stuff flying around with a tornado or bomb.
" I don't believe there is a limit to what I would do to protect my family, and would have to pray for anybody that didn't have the good judgement to realize that ahead of time". I like the old feller alot. And I respect him to the fullest.. the mad had a conviction about the safety of his family, and acted on it and took it to the fullest extent of his capabilities...
Thank you for sharing,I think this family will survive,if they know it was terrible outside, they will be more relaxed.but it was only temporary they were anxious to get out .God help us all.
I really love his bunker but if he doesn't have one, he should install a solar panel on his roof top that his house can use, and when they go down below he can flick a switch that disconnects from the house and stays connected to the bunker without looking like it's used for a bunker
If the grid goes down, and there is no electricity, as Roger said, where is he going to get gas to run his generator for an extended period of time? He better have a huge gas tank (1000 gal.) that’s full.
Papa did an amazing job getting his family situated for bad times . I suggest is to get 4 in foam for the beds so people will b more comfortable so bodies won't hurt while sleeping so they r better to get things done . Other then that did great :) n maybe later on add sum sort or bath or shower system as well in case it is a longer term. Wish we had the space n money to do this for our big family.
Question for the pros: If you are cooking in the bunker would people on the outside through the fresh air vents smell the food giving up your location? I'm also concerned for them if somebody hears there generators running. Just trying to learn along with others and not trying to be rude.
Valid thoughts/concerns. Depends on food cooked and means to cook food/vent. A gas/diesel, etc generator will generate a moderate noise hence, yes, it can definitely attract unwanted individuals.
With what happened to Texas power grid a few winters ago. He was right to do it what he did! And then the attack on the power grid on the east coast I believe it was North Carolina not too long ago. It just strengthens the need to make sure that you can take care of yourself!

So you are the reason I would not able to get any because you bought them up. I replied I had these for over three years The reason you didn't have any is because you did not plan for hard times , now she and her family are canning Raisin chickens And planning for hard times. And I'm thankful that it woke her and her family up.
@@williamjones1212 I hope so apologized for accusing you of that.
After watching this I realized I am way under prepared 😂
You and me both 😯
Coz u r gonna die first😂
How much do you really need though, they are only safe in certain situations. If they need to become mobile then bunkers are useless. One can never be prepared for every problem that arises.
Be prepare for at least 3 days,,,3 meals a day,
Then go from there.
@@vikingored7469 you can buy you some buckets and mylar bags and oxygen absorbers and rice, corn, beans etc and get you 5 or 10 buckets to start and each bucket will provide I forget the exact amount but one will provide 1 person with a month of food
Just watched this in 2023 as we are entering the next depression. In the UK people are choosing between food or heat

what a beautiful family. thank you for sharing
At 4:53 it looks like Roger is more at risk from a collapse of his shipping container given the side wall bulge and pit prop style bracing...
The first family should’ve gotten a higher rating I believe. I love how both these families are coming together!! I believe it’s the way it should be!
I am a prepper but most of the family think it is only for nutcases. The expectation is that only I need to provide anything for them all so that's what I will have to do to keep everyone safe.
In some ways i like the idea of having a bunker, but then i think about what the world will be like in a post bunker world, and im not sure id want to survive long enough, just to be surrounded by chaos.
But if i ever built a bunker, a much nicer bathroom, and sleeping quarters would go a long way to maintain comfort & sanity.
Wow! Roger is awesome! I loved his setup and thought process and attitude.
Roger needs a solar/battery system -- that gas generator is way too loud and will draw attention from desperate neighbors lurking nearby. Also, sunlight is free!
I didn't think about that but you so right
Roger might want to think about installing a homemade periscope near his dog house escape tunnel.
I wish I could figure out how to power my electric water distiller from solar but what I have now has already cost a fortune but I`m glad to have it when the power fails.
even oif all goes there will still be cars with battery's and alienators all have do is re wire it and build u a fan type system find flowing water ......to consistently turn the fan to turn the belt on the alienator it charges the battery
That's what I said. Noise travels far at night.
Sitting duck
respect sir for preparing to look after your family steve
There is always something to learn from each of these.
that "bunker" is a deathtrap.....you can see all the walls buckling from the weight on the sides. those are meant to stack and hold weight vertically. the walls you tried to add support to only have about 10% of the support they should...
How so? Shipping containers are stacked several high full of shipped goods. For months and years at a time.
Maybe soil pressure on side, but I don't think the top?
@@aquagandaShipping containers manage all the weight over them thanks to their corners, not their paper wide metal sheet.
@@aquaganda That's what the issue is.
The weight isn't just being added vertically, it's being pushed on laterally as well.
The first family is so sweet participating in his hobby/delusion. They know it means a lot to him.
If all these preppers were to unite into a community which extends past their families, their scores would go much higher. I imagine they've considered this and plan to expand later on as they meet like minded neighbors.
There arrow skills as a whole family was epic
I slept painfully, and fell on the floor. 😂
Absolutely! I’m sure he thought about it more during practice runs as time went on.
When he entered a bunker under a dog house, it reminded me of watching old Hogans Heroes with my dad and I wanted one
Lol Texas Power Grid actually failed for a week since this aired.
Good thing you are prepping know I know where u live because you just posted a commit on youttube???
It's good to be skilled in all forms of survival skills - regardless - it's just wise training for all people.
The coronavirus was a test and we all saw how people reacted fighting for a toilet paper imagine fighting for food and water
Even though bunkers that are constructed from shipping containers may seem a good idea what I’ve learnt the dirt around the construction will collapse under pressure or another problem is the water plate in some areas can cause flooding of a shipping container. Now meat wise your better off freezer drying if you can afford a machine.
This show needs to be brought back because the world is so close to an actual World War 3.
FJB 😤
One good thing about Covid.... It stopped the ww3 talks that were happening, for a while anyway
We’ve been close to WWIII since the the Cold War.
WW3 been going on for awhile its just that instead of bombs and bullets its fought with info and $$$$
Gotta remember this was made 6 years before the pandemic. I'll bet a lot of folks who laughed at this show then are now preppers themselves.
I hope. I have 2 brothers who think I'm crazy for prepping, they are halfway across the country.
Probably not. Some of them are probably still suckling the teet of government, depending on them for safety, like they did during the plandemic.
Except it happened and the people who didn’t prep or prep had the same experience.
I am specifically laughing at the chick who thought getting goats was more practical for clothing than sheep and who thought we might actually run out if clothes considering how many billions of clothes are thrown out each year here 😂
Agree, along with some of the extreme weather events we've faced since then...ex: Texas winter storm 2021 - aka "Sno-vid"
Quick question… generator is outside… so what happens if someone steals it while they in their bunker?
Or follows the cord.
.
I always suspected Gandalf was a prepper.
That generator would be a beacon to anyone in the area and that whole family would be in a contained area already and easy to isolate
Suddenly preppers don't look so crazy
🎯
no they do
Yeah they still do lol
@@hmartin751 That's gonna age well

I wish I had a Grandfather like that. Good job!!
13:40 yooo his whole family strapped🤣🤣 I don’t want to attempt to get in their bunker
My prepping is based on a good stash of whiskey and cigars. And some beans.
That's right,,,
Behing under its tactically a disadvantage you could get smoked out or even buried/trap under there.
Being above ground gives you the options of easier escape and evade if your position gets located/compromised.
The door opening to the outside is a problem. Should have one opening to the inside so you don’t get trapped by stuff flying around with a tornado or bomb.
I remember this show before the pandemic and threat of nuclear war. I wonder if people are taking things more seriously.
I would rethink the gas generator if you have to leave the bunker to put more gas in it.
How did a house fire translate to prepping for a terrorist attack? 😂
Thank you for sharing,I think this family will survive,if they know it was terrible outside, they will be more relaxed.but it was only temporary they were anxious to get out .God help us all.
I'm to claustrophobic to live like this. I'm old and disabled. If I die above ground, so be it.
I really love his bunker but if he doesn't have one, he should install a solar panel on his roof top that his house can use, and when they go down below he can flick a switch that disconnects from the house and stays connected to the bunker without looking like it's used for a bunker
his container bunker is a death trap. you can see one container already started caving in
respect t that guy. it was really emotional story about his house fire.
Accident waiting to happen. Is he climbing the ladder with his finger on the trigger.
Shipping containers are not designed to take the weight of the surrounding or topping dirt. Looks like one wall is already buckling.
Well I guess he’s going to need to get a new back door because he just gave up his position right?
Yes, prepping for your family is fine, but much better if your neighbors, friends, and you prep together. There is strength in numbers.
Let’s do better guys we can definitely do it better congrats to anyone trying to be prep for anything something is definitely better than do nothing

the grandpa with the bunker is anything but crazy. i wish i had a grandpa like that
If the grid goes down, and there is no electricity, as Roger said, where is he going to get gas to run his generator for an extended period of time? He better have a huge gas tank (1000 gal.) that’s full.
Yeah your right
These people are nuts!!😕
Eta: why am I not surprised this guy has an eye twitch!?!
I agree. Grandpa is borderline insane but at least he isn’t harming anyone…yet.
Bring the show back already
Question for the pros: If you are cooking in the bunker would people on the outside through the fresh air vents smell the food giving up your location? I'm also concerned for them if somebody hears there generators running. Just trying to learn along with others and not trying to be rude.
Without seasoning it won't be much of a smell 😅 I didn't notice any seasoning so
Valid thoughts/concerns. Depends on food cooked and means to cook food/vent. A gas/diesel, etc generator will generate a moderate noise hence, yes, it can definitely attract unwanted individuals.
Add foam pads to sleep on and Games to play other types of lighting .battery operated or solar .
With what happened to Texas power grid a few winters ago. He was right to do it what he did! And then the attack on the power grid on the east coast I believe it was North Carolina not too long ago. It just strengthens the need to make sure that you can take care of yourself!
