A positive role model on TV, without stereotyping that everybody has to have a perfect body, surely is a good thing - showing that you certainly should not judge a person from their outward appearance but on whether they can do the job or have a positive effect on the world around them. Self confidence and self esteem for a teenager is everything.
The so-called bully didn't ask her to do that. The person in question merely asked her to set a good example, given the myriad of complications (many of which I know of, but which an average Joe does not know) that obesity can cause.

So no, having weight on you is NOT an influence. It doesn’t influence people to get fatter. Telling people to eat more when they’ve had enough is influencing a bad habit. Simply being fat is not. We ALSO shouldn’t be influencing people to be skinny. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are BOTH mental health issues. There are unhealthy skinny people out there and healthy fat people. Many of the healthy fat people tend to walk a lot, be outside more, and have healthier relationships with those around them. I believe a lot of obese issues actually are social as being made fun of and mocked and criticized has a way bigger influence on health than what you put in your body. Everyone loves her and had her back immediately when this came out. To this day she’s still working. She even went on the Ellen Show. She will always be a legend to us.

What he said is true. I feel for her and understand where she is coming from. I have weight issues too, but I acknowledge that obesity is a disease and that it is curable. It is different from race, gender, and sexual preference in two major ways. There is something wrong with it, and the person who has it can change it. I remember this crap in school.. and this was less than 2 years ago. I’m underweight and I remember being told to eat more. I hate how people think they can judge anyone based on appearances. What he said is true. I feel for her and understand where she is coming from. I have weight issues too, but I acknowledge that obesity is a disease and that it is curable. It is different from race, gender, and sexual preference in two major ways. There is something wrong with it, and the person who has it can change it. Obesity is one of the major killers, and the news lady really should try hard to fix the problem. She can do it.

I LOVE that she was even able to throw a snippet of humor in there with her "thick skin" comment!! I was always super skinny, even teased for being a toothpick...but after years of steroids for a debilitating autoimmune disease, ive gained a lot of weight. It bothers me sometimes but this makes me feel better. Most of us dont just wake up in the morning and "choose" to be overweight! I thought that was pretty much common sense. WOW. That's the most honest wonderful thing I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing from a news segment. Good for you. Man. I'm getting all emotional. But we all need an honest cry once in a while. Why can't people do more building people up and less tearing them down. Bullies are lazy, trashy, bitter, no class people that's all. Why? Because it's easier to tear someone down then to build someone up. I realize this is an old video but I just came across it. The cruel words that that idiot wrote to the beautiful lady enraged me. First of all, young viewers, “girls in-particular”, aren’t influenced by another persons size unless it is first pointed out to them. Second of all, who cares what her size is as long as she does her job well. Again, I’m enraged.
Unfortunately, it is very human to focus on the few criticisms than the many encouragements.

@@perilflower as an Asian, my parents tease me and my brother on weight a lot, but since we already have an established social code, we understand it isn’t deeply critical. It really depends on how the father teaches their children the moral code, because sometimes being overweight is a problem. Just depends how you tell it to your child

What a rude e-mail! Some people does not have any control over how their body look. Healthwise there are a lot of things that can cause you to gain weight. Sometimes you just have to live this motto: "What others think of me is none of my business. They are only revealing their own lack of integrity."
