    So I commented on another video about working at a wound care center and submitting icd10 and charges for our physicians... You made me realize that i am working as a specialist 😅 it's very basic because the doctors have already assigned the diagnosis, BUT my job is to make sure that the charges match what the procedure codes say.. we used to get daily emails and calls from revenue cycle because they kept getting denials but now that rarely ever happens because I am the only person selecting the icd10 and charges... I guess I am doing something right 🤣. But I should be getting paid more for all my work

    I left nursing school about a year ago and I'm so lost on what to do career-wise. I'm going back to school soon and I'm wondering what program you think would be best: Medical Information Coder/Biller CCC (College Credit Certificate) or Health Information Technology AS (Associates in Science). I would prefer to get my associates in science as it would look good on my resume, but the CCC program is more affordable for me. Also the CCC program is AHIMA PCAP accredited and the AS program is CAHIM accredited and graduates are eligible to apply and take the national certification exam for RHIA and RHIT. I'm not sure what would be best so some guidance would help a ton!

    Hi Victoria. I'm a registered nurse with a background in utilization management and case management. I am definitely an introvert who LOVES analyzing records and isn't a fan of direct patient interaction. I work well with providers and communicate well. Providers love me. Also enjoy advocating for patients, but do not love to interact with them on a regular basis. Looking into coding as a career for my last 10 years of my career before retirement. What are your thoughts on transitioning from nursing to coding? I know the pay is considerably less, but I'm willing to accept that to work autonomously behind the scenes. Please let me know if you think coding would be a good fit for me. Thank you!

Any ideas for me would be appreciated. I would like to work in a clinic like the health department and similar settings. I am going to take an online 4 month coding class at a local community college which prepares me to take that CPC exam. The wages aren't as important to me as the work environment. I will get billing training as well.

    I'm researching about billing and coding because this was a career advertised as a good choice for working from home with children.. So should I not waste my time or money? I'm expecting my 3rd child in september and we need more income but we don't qualify for child care assistance so child care is out of the question I cannot find an option that will cover the costs. I can't find an actual work from home career that will turn any profit and put at least one of my children in daycare. Is this a bad idea too then for what I'm trying to accomplish? Are there any stay at home moms out there that are doing this successfully?

    Hello, I’m so interested in medical coding. Your videos are so helpful and thank you for sharing so much!
    Have a few questions for you , hope it’s ok, maybe a little long winded.
    I’m currently working for a health insurance company in a different department then medical coding and want to apply out once I have my CPT.
    I’ve had A&P & Medical terminology thru the years and enjoy it, would of course need a refresher and I’m trying to learn the medical coding at this point. I’m ADD and could use some guidance what the best course of action would be?
    Do you have a course I can take thru a membership account? Did I hear that correctly? I’ve been watching the videos of yours and I maybe doing something wrong because I can’t find from Beginning (CPT & ICD - 10 - CM 2020) to the end. Would appreciate any assistance you could provide?
    Thanks Casper

    I have a question I hope you can help me with. I am currently working on a BS in Health Information Management. My plan is to get certified after I graduate so I have both on my resume’ . Do you think it will be at all beneficial to have a four year degree if my plan/hope is to be a work at home coder? I am hoping it will help my chances of getting a job especially with out experience but as much as I would like to earn a bachelors degree if it wont help my job opportunities or income potential maybe I shouldn’t spend the money for it? Thank you 😊

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  3 роки тому +11

      I think a bachelors is not necessary for a work from home coding job. Most people just need the coding credential, so a lot of people just get training from a technical school or directly from AAPC. A bachelor's is only needed if you want to get into a manager role or above.

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  3 місяці тому

      Hey there! 🌟 I totally understand your enthusiasm for diving into medical coding, especially with your background. However, it's important to note that fully free learning resources for medical coding are quite limited. This is largely due to copyright fees associated with the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code set. While there are some resources and introductory materials available, the comprehensive study required for proficiency in medical coding typically involves purchasing books, which can cost around $300. Moreover, most employers in the field prefer to hire certified coders. Achieving certification involves membership fees of about $200 and an exam fee of approximately $500. It's an investment in your future career, but it's worth considering these costs as you plan your journey into medical coding. Keep your passion alive, and maybe explore some budget-friendly options or financial aid that could help you get started!

      AAPC doesn't have an "accreditation" they just have approved instructors that will allow you to take time off your apprenticeship by using their curriculum for the CPC program. You would look for them to state they are approved by the AAPC or can call the AAPC and ask.
      AHIMA has certain approved schools for some of their credentials -- mostly in health information. You can verify here: www.cahiim.org/programs/program-directory
