I’ve been binge watching your videos and so much helpful information. I’ve got a chance to job shadow a medical coder and it was a great experience to see what they did daily. Right now I just do scheduling and administration work for a health community center but have learned along the way how to use different systems like epic and nextgen. I Plan to getting a certification but don’t know if I want the dual coding and billing certification or regular CPC or the auditing. I got a lot of exploring to do 😊

I just received my certified coding associate certificate through a community College program I am facing the issue of being turned down for lack of experience but still wanting my foot in the door the plan was to find employment but it is seemingly impossible right now
I graduate in 2 1/2 months and now I'm second guessing my education.
I just started the AAPC CPC Program.
My background is in EMS and was looking to transition into a "less physical" field.
I am actually realizing that my Medical Terminology and A&P are really lacking. Very discouraging.
I've already paid for the course and am definitely concerned that I may have overestimated my preparedness for this venture.
Any advice?

You would be surprised how much med term and A&P you know just from being around it in your job. I come from a Pharmacy background and I was very surprised how many things I was familiar with just because I dealt with medications.
I have 13 years of experience in HCC coding with a pretty stellar resume CPC and CRC but I've been a temp for 2 years now. I can't find a full time permanent position and I don't understand why.
Like I'm about to walk away from a 13 year career because of this. 😭😭😭

I've been working at the bedside for 2 years and I'm realizing it just isn't for me. Looking into coding as a career change. Do you have any knowledge of how difficult it is for an RN to get an entry level coding position?? I also have 4+ years experience as a pharmacy tech and plan on getting my CPC very soon!
Victoria, I love your channel. You mentioned a "medical coding support role" or a "medical coding assistant" roll and I am very intrigued. I just finished a medical coding course and I am a bit overwhelmed with the info. I entered this field "cold turkey" no experience. I find it very interesting and am definitely going to pursue a career. QUESTION: what could be some responsibilities of a "coding support" role or a "coding assistant"? I would like to start with something like that and add responsibilities gradually. What would this type of position be called perhaps on a job site? Thanks for the video.
In one of my jobs we used coding support to review coding edits in the system. So if it hit an edit that maybe needed a modifier added, the coding support person would review and see what modifier needed to be added. They would also look at simple cases that often providers tended to code incorrectly like laceration repairs or lesions.
Some organisations use their support roles to assist with running reports and pulling records.

Position Purpose: Perform all activities related to collections
• Verify insurance eligibility for services provided
• Verify insurance eligibility for all accounts with questionable status or billing addresses
• Perform price negotiations and discounts related to collections
• Identify patient resources pertaining to reimbursement
• Inform patients of financial responsibilities as stated by the insurance company
• Review and audit accounts from aging reports for missing payments
• Collect reimbursement for billed and aged accounts
• Process daily correspondence to successfully appeal third-party carriers
• Document all pertinent communication with patient, physician, insurance company as it may relate to collection procedures
• Submit adjustments to account receivable register
• Correct errors, reimbursements for accounts, and resolve billing issues
Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of medical billing or collections experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Passed CPC in Feb. Applying everywhere and decided to do the first tip in this video in getting a foot in the door and noticed an up tick in communication from employers.
Initially I stumbled on obtaining auth for outpatient procedures. Then I was doing charge entry in a wound care clinic and as well realized that certain codes get approved for certain charges and now I work along side the rev cycle team to review denials.
I have more experience than entry level positions but have not had luck I'm getting hired yet
what the hell did i get my self into when i went to get my certification.... 😭

Do you have to have a CPB to be in billing? would having a CPC-A be enough? I'm trying to think of job options that can get my foot in the door that still practice my new skill set in coding

Hi Victoria, I just found your channel today, you are awesome!! I have a question about charge entry... is that the same as charge capture? I actually have 2 credentials, CPC (2019) and CRC (2020), but so far my experience is school and the AAPC Practicode. I have an interview tomorrow with a manager and supervisor for a charge capture specialist position (100% remote) that I applied for a few weeks ago. I have made it very clear that I have no experience in this particular position or in coding, but I have told myself on the fact that I have been a medical transcriptionist for 21 years, working remotely from home, my credentials and the terminology, anatomy/physiology, HCPCS, CPT, ICD-10 (which were all requirements for the position). Just curious if you think someone in my position would be able to do a charge capture position. :-) Thank you!
