As CEO, CFO & CMO I totally agree with every point presented. I will add an additional point #13 considering now days the first interview is generally online, I will highly recommend to work your videos skills, lighting, background, think like a movie Director how to stage you as the principal star in front of the camera, be aware of how others will see you remember this will be your first impression, have the lighting in front of you never behind you, make sure the room colors are neutral tones, every object in the background is organized. Prepare and make sure internet connection, WiFi, site and computer are functional in a timely fashion before the interview. You might be surprised how many individuals had connectivity issues at the very last moment.
Congrats! I just finished reading the 5 Dysfunction’s of a Team by Patrick L. YOU have your hands full! Cheers to you’re new position. That’s tough managing emotions, roles, outside factors, finance and above all a repeated cycle of team building. How’s it going so far? Have you read that book?
Hi Andrew- First of all, thank you! Having been in IT for 19 years, I found myself on the job market due to a layoff. I quickly accepted a new job with in 2 months, but after orientation, in August 2023, I never went back to the office. The atmosphere felt like a prison without walls, and the only window in the entire office was in the conference room. No thanks. I was unemployed for 5 months. I'm not sure why I decided to search for an answer on UA-cam, but I did, and there were a bunch of videos to prep for the interview questions. Most of them were worthless. For some reason, I landed on your yellow header background video . Specifically, "tell me about yourself' and 'why do you want to work for this company.' You nailed it, and your answers are the best. My interviews went well, and when things were thrown at me and no one was smiling other side of the screen, I followed your tactics to control the room and take charge of the interview, and I did it, oh boy... I got two job offers, and a 3 round of interview on with another company is scheduled on Monday with the leadership team. You're the best! Please listen to Andrew and pay attention. again, thank you!
This video is 5 years old, yet its my go to guide for every executive interview. I count my blessings twice with Sir Andrew!! No words can express my gratitude...
Andy, Thanks again.. I followed all your advice and got yet another executive role. Now am watching your salary negotiation tips on an offer. Thank you
Andy, I negotiated the offer based on value and recruiter was very upset and started ghosting. It's an executive level role I wonder what is my learning here and I kept reaching for update yet no luck
Saw this video a couple months ago when I was prepping for the interview process. Just came back to say I got the job and start next week. Out of all the videos I saw this one is key. Big thanks Andrew
Andrew, my first comment on YT. This video helped me double my salary and jump a few levels to get a senior exec job, and I was competing against candidates who on paper have way more experience and qualifications than me.
Jerry!!!! Yeah baby!!! The only thing I'm concerned about is I read your comment at 5 AM and now I'm not sure how my day can get any better! I hope it's not all down hill from here! All kidding aside brother, thanks for letter me know this. It means the world to me that I could help you. Think of me while you're crushing that job and take in the career development and leadership vids on my channel to make sure you stay on your game! Hope to see you before your next promotion! 🙌 👊
Guys, Andrew is the real deal. Just landed a job that I, on paper, had “no business” landing. I just got out of professional sports and have no work experience. There were hundreds of applicants and all more equipped from a resume standpoint. From the first interview on, I followed his tips, and his book “Interview Intervention.” I got the offer yesterday and I couldn’t be more grateful. Listen to what he’s putting out there. It’s not fluff. ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 Andrew
Thanks, I'm in Management but moving into Executive Management soon. My advice to others is, if the promotion is within the same company, treat every day like it's part of the interview and follow the tips you described. Don't wait until interview day, they'll see right through it.
Friend, I must say that thanks to your advice, I have gone from a assistant level manager in the hospitality business to an executive level position in one leap! These steps seemed out of my comfort zone as I am fantastic in interviews already (I have only been denied 2 position after sitting down for a formal interview). Thank you for your insight as I have made a quantum leap of 3 positions and now have a massive influence on an organization. Thank you!
Andrew, thanks to your videos and guidance I was able to make the jump from manager to director at a new company! Your videos have been of great help! Not only for traditional job interviews but for general career development. I have noticed that no matter what “You are always interviewing” in each professional conversation you have. All the frameworks/techniques you share in you channel have been a game changer!
Andrew, Following your advises led me to sign a job contract for an executive leadership role. I won it against many strong executives. Can't thank you enough for all the support you provided me through your extensive experience and simple way of delivering your ideas. Millions of thanks Andrew!
This video absolutely helped me prepare like never before and after 4 grueling rounds, I got the job. Also watched your video on negotiating salary and was able to get exactly what I wanted! Can’t thank you enough!
Andrew, this is brilliant!! I have been watching you videos and passed the first round with the hiring manager and the team. Now I am going to meet with the executives and your content is still the best. Thank you so much. We are so lucky to have you!
THANK YOU ANDREW!! I have watched many of your videos and all of them are BRILLIANT!! But this one specially helped me to get the job offer I was seeking for. I was in the process for a senior level sales role but my goal was to respond as an executive to executives, and it worked!! I begin next month! Your ebook "Ace Your Job Interview" also helped me building my storytelling!! You are THE BEST!
This is insanely good and helpful. The entire "focus on their future and not your past" is so true. For most of us, the first 30+Y of our work-life involves what we've done, the skills, responsibilities, the competency, not the BENEFIT of those actions. Great points, @andrew
I like how you convey the information . Basically you’re instructing people how to build a pitch of themselves and their capabilities and being well informed on how people can make a buying (in this case hiring situation. ). I am a career professional salesmen and once I’ve been given an interview for a position I’ve always landed the job . This is a great crash course for the talented and accomplished who may just not understand the smaller subtleties in how to win people over and influence them. Being a great interviewer will take you VERY FAR , even when on you might not be the most “qualified” applicant on paper. The truth is , a lot of us are talented and good at what we do but the trouble is so many people don’t know or understand an interview can only be successful with background knowledge you mention, enthusiasm , and directing people to the their own conclusion that YOU’RE the right person. I love that you touch on not just being a good speaker , but being effective . Feeling the interviewers energy , matching it , and listening to what they mean and not just what they ask so you can tell them what they need to know and NOT just what they might like to hear ! It can actually be fun and exhilarating to be weighed and measured and any high performer is glad to take the challenge
Great video, very useful tips. One difference between executive level and non-executive level answers is how you talk about Business context and what you are focusing on. People at senior level have an ability to think at strategic level. So what is the strategic level of thinking? If you are asked to give examples of your strategic approach, you need to provide a longer time horizon and consider the implications and the unintended consequences. Don't focus too much on process or concept details. You will be perceived too technical and not strategic enough. If you address short term results and outcomes then you will be perceived more tactical than strategic. Second important thing is having multifunctional perspective. Make sure your focus and approach involves others and you consider implications of your decisions on other people and other functions. Third important thing is to demonstrate a good understanding of the cause and effect of a problem and show how you can find the root cause. This shows that your reasoning has some depth. Make sure you take your time to prepare examples how you solved real life problems.
this is my fourth time looking at this video past and present because that is how much I love these 12 steps. I want these steps to come naturally without me sounding like a robot. You are the best Andy...love it !!!
Thank you so much Andy ! You have been a great help throughout my job search for last several months. Finally landed into an Executive role in a multinational organization. One thing I must say is that managing our own stress level every second is one of the key factors for a successful interview. Thanks again!
Interesting point about everything being centered on the company rather than the role. I think this is something that people don't often think about, but it's important to be clear about how you're going to contribute to the company's overall vision/mission. Thanks for sharing another great video. Cheers!
Thank you Andy, this is the best video I've seen on this platform for a long time. I recently stepped down from an executive position in a small company to take a mid level position at a large one. What you said in this video is not only helpful for prospective executives prepping for an interview, but for just about anyone with ambitions to get there someday, to start adjusting their attitude and mindset as early as possible. I think such a mindset makes for productivity and results and that'll get you noticed and help you along to your ultimate goal.
I know what you are thinking, going on 4 years ago well if you are watching this in 2022. Advice here helped me a bunch land my job and no this is not an advertisement, take some notes and ace that interview like I did, I have been at my role for almost 4 months and look forward to my Mondays. Accelerate your career!
Andy, these 12 steps to win the job are so great. Executive level interviews are intense. I've seen some last days! Thanks for sharing these senior management job interview tips.
Thank you Andrew. Your tips presented here really helped me in successfully getting an offer for an executive GM role. Thought this feedback will help others in search of great tips toward success in their job interviews for senior executive roles - Andrew’s tips works! Thanks so much again Andrew!
Thanking you for fantastic interview pointers. Just had a really successful interview. They were pleased that I asked them such constructive questions, only brought about by watching your videos.
I can join to add number 13!having High frequency energy can impact positively the interview result. I felt this high frequency from you. Many thanks for your amazing educational video! I am going next month to London for looking a new job and will continue to watch your video to improve my self.
Thanks Andrew! I landed my dream job in India. I love you Man. Your teachings have saved my career. Keep guiding and hope you make a video soon on how to adjust in a new office
Thanks for the Information, I'm a V.P. of Engineering and have worked at the same company for 25 years. I have interviewed 100's of people but i still found your videos informative. It's been 25 years since i been on the other side, so i'm looking to re-educate myself. Honestly the last interview i've been in is for an Entry level Engineering job.
Can't even count the number of times I've had to re-watch this video! Always an 'aha!' moment on something you mentioned but completely forgot! Great vid, as usual!
After interviewing an associate for my organization, I've been researching interview techniques across UA-cam. Your content fits a majority of my course load at my local junior college, my training within my organization towards the position of store manager, and other tips and tricks to obtain better associates within the company I am employed by. Subscribed.
Thank you Andrew for organizing the 12 steps that is very relevant. I watched Andrew's content from start to end. It's for the first time I have done this on such content.
More great advice. Thanks Andy!! I highlighted "90% of focus should be on the benefits I achieved and the impact I made" along with "story sequencing". I will be focusing on all 12, with special emphasis on these two.
Very Nicely Said Sir so valuable video I have my virtual round as a Plant Head on Monday will definitely concentrate on all the well said points so that they will offer the job and the best package
Andrew Thank you for all your value you give to several across the world. I have a interview soon which will be my 3rd to discuss my career in detail. I’m trying to figure out if I am a true contender for the role. Any tips on this?
Check out my video on 6 Big Job Search Mistakes You Don't Want to Make, and pay attention to the chapter on, You are leaving doubt in the interview's mind. Good luck!
Hi Andy, this one is so great knowledge. Thanks very much. Would appreciate if you can also publish something similar on middle and senior management as well.
Would you say that Director level is "executive level"? (Director, VP, President, CxO)? Based on a StratPlng background, I would definitely want to talk strategy and positioning to show my grasp of the company and the industry in general.
I love your videos ! What videos would be good to watch for second interviews for an executive level interview ? Also if your up against a person internal that is currently acting in that position
Thank you so much! Here are a few videos you should check out: How Jobseekers Should Interview with Senior Executives, Second Job Interview: 3 Tips to Get Hired, and How to Beat an Internal Candidate in a Job Interview. Good luck!
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. My only suggestion is to include examples in the form of questions or situations for each of your steps.
@andrew Do you have any videos of HOW to interview candidates?! I'm meeting applicants this week and will be the one that's asking the questions....Being a fan of yours I've learned to stay away from the "tell me about yourself" and "Was there ever a time..." questions.....any other tips or links?
Hey Andy! Quick question for ya, does the reverse chronological order for story sequencing still apply for when they say, "tell me about yourself?" or should I start from the beginning and use that to tell them a story about my origins to connect better with my interviewer?
These video's are great. Would love some insight as I've been in several C Suite (one coming up in the next 30 minutes) as I recently received feedback that I didn't cover information that I did. How would I gracefully ask what gaps I may have left off that may be of interest to the interviewer. Also, many of the C-Suite discussions I've been in have been just that... Discussions with few or minimal questions.
Brian, there are several communication tripwires during an interview, but my short answer is to ask this at the end of the interview: ua-cam.com/video/4huUnN9lZOA/v-deo.html
Hi Andrew, THANK YOU for posting a very well informed video for those who are preparing for Director position interview. I do have a question for you and for the rest of your audience on the stages of interviews. What should I expect and how should I approach my answers between an interview with a recruiter and a hiring manager? I imagine not to be so technical with the recruiter according to the job posting vs. with the hiring manager. Thanks Again! Best, Glenn💯
I missed this...live streaming...I really needed...some direction...I am searching job from last 2months....after listening your videos..I get boost up..like ok that's the I was missing out and try to improve in that area....but results are still negative 😑
I love the focus on shift to their future...in hindsight I have focused too much on the past ...excellent on how to apply this to the STAR answer strategy! Thank you!!
Thank you for your help. I am actually making traction in my quest to the C suite due to (I think), and silliness to mentor us on your channel. Thank you!
Andrew, I have a final round interview with the corporate controller. I consider this role executive level. The strategies in this video apply the same?
Such a rich tutorial Andy, thank you so much for this content ! I understand now what I need to do when I was told that to prepare for the interview with the GM he needs to understand how I can add value to him ? Thank you again ! Bootcamper Sandy
Your pronunciation is super clear and sharp and very convincing. After watching your video I was able to remember few challenging experience from my previous projects which really requires to be discussed during the interview. I totally forgot them but you shook my mind nicely that now I am feeling more confident. THANK YOU...!!!!!

Right, 16:40 - communication is not just speaking or listening but also speaking Polish during the interview. Rozumiem.
Lol
Andrew LaCivita in all seriousness, this free resource is totally on point. I really appreciate it.
Listed to this and integrated the message. Took it to interview and landed exec role.
Yesssssss 🎉 huge congrats!!!🎉🎈🍾
Awesome @helimax
Can't even count the number of times I've had to re-watch this video! Always an 'aha!' moment on something you mentioned but completely forgot! Great vid, as usual!
:)
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Im very sure that one other should be part of this count. Charisma, it can be built and developed and is crucial in many situations.
After interviewing an associate for my organization, I've been researching interview techniques across UA-cam. Your content fits a majority of my course load at my local junior college, my training within my organization towards the position of store manager, and other tips and tricks to obtain better associates within the company I am employed by. Subscribed.
Wonderful to hear!!!

Connie Cotter and 90% into the future. Think future. Their future. Their transformation. :)

You’re so welcome!
Really great tips. I interview people all the time and I think this was really well said and very interesting.
Thank you!!
Great Video , Simple and Clear. Just one question, if the Interview is over Video, Does one need to dress in Blazer Or Plain formal shirt is fine ?
You’ll usually be safer being a little more dressy but use your judgment based on the company you’re interviewing with!
These are great tips! Very informative. I love love all the updates of everyone who got their job offer after the interviews. 👏
Glad you enjoyed this!!
Great advice - especially appreciated Andy's points about how to keep the interview focused on the future.

Will do my best Sharad!
Would you say that Director level is "executive level"? (Director, VP, President, CxO)? Based on a StratPlng background, I would definitely want to talk strategy and positioning to show my grasp of the company and the industry in general.
I would say that!
In depth, realistic and enlightening.. Thanks for sharing
You’re so welcome!!
Fantastic reminder and there seem to be something I learn every time I review this video... Thanks Andy!
You're welcome Jes!
Good luck!
I am heading for a C-level interview. Prayers and good wishes needed 🙏🏼❤🙇🙂 Thank you for this lecture ❤
Good luck! You got this!
I wrote a gold award winning hiring book called the hiring prophecies. Grab it at amazon.
Hey Andy! Quick question for ya, does the reverse chronological order for story sequencing still apply for when they say, "tell me about yourself?" or should I start from the beginning and use that to tell them a story about my origins to connect better with my interviewer?
I would focus your stories most aligned to what the company needs. You can also ask the interviewer, if there is any area he/she wants to hear about.
Amazing video! This is a great example of how one person's passion and talents can positively affect others! So good!
Glad you liked it Jennifer!
Thanks for sharing Andrew, very interesting and well informed, Well Done!
You’re welcome Deza!!
Fantastic video and very timely!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!!
You're so welcome!
Love the content of your video, this will help me a lot preparing for my executive level interview. thank you
Great to hear it Mike!
Thank you for your help. I am actually making traction in my quest to the C suite due to (I think), and silliness to mentor us on your channel. Thank you!
You’re so welcome Brian!!
Andrew, I have a final round interview with the corporate controller. I consider this role executive level. The strategies in this video apply the same?
They are!! Go get em!
Such a rich tutorial Andy, thank you so much for this content ! I understand now what I need to do when I was told that to prepare for the interview with the GM he needs to understand how I can add value to him ? Thank you again ! Bootcamper Sandy
You’re so welcome Sandy!!
