    I have 0 issues with making art. I get complemented all the time and always hear oh, you are so talented, wow that is amazing. Getting someone to buy what I make? That is the issue. I cannot find that thing to close the circle. Nobody seems to have money for fluff. I am doing blacksmithing now, to try and make more needful things. Maybe then folks will buy?

    SO underrated channel here. Talking about how you have to meet goals in life and have an agenda to success. Or else, you became another artist project or live whatever your parent/teachers/etc wants you to be. And is a sad life whats ahead of you if thats your problem.
    So, have a goal.
    Thanks for the video man, keep going!.

    when i first started i had abysmal pricing. just 20$ for a fully modeled character with 3D rigging. which usually takes me 3 weeks to complete. then i charged only 100$ for multiple 3D backgrounds and animations. i was happy to get that anyway but it was insane pricing in an industry where people charge up to 10,000$ for a model of a trash can.
    i eventually learned more reasonable pricing but doing it that way was awful. some projects lasted 12 months when the money i received for them was gone 12 months ago. so yeah under pricing is not worth it.

      Glad to hear you got yourself out of that! It’s so sad to see that happening so much. How long did it take you to build yourself up to respectable pricing?

      @@TheArtMentor about a year later i experienced a massive burn out from all the poorly paid work. i saw a 3D related video saying that i should stop bending over backwards for clients. it made me reflect and reconsider what i was doing. charging low prices for my absolute best work was nonsensical. i was spending too much effort to achieve technical specs that the client would not even care about in the first place. on top of not actually charging for said effort. my new model is to have pre defined quality tiers and charge separately for each aspect of the work. and DONT do what i am not paid to do. i know you said not to messure your worktime but i personally find it easier to price my work if i know how much time it takes to do something. in terms of technical ability i am overqualified on what my type of clients need which is something i need to keep in check.

      I'm unsure, I actually stopped playing PC games on the daily, a few times a week is it at most; it got switched out by social media (Reddit, Twitter) which I've finally quit recently, and now I'm at the point of following "doing nothing is easier than doing something" as a way to slowly go over to good habit building! (Advice is from Dr. K here on UA-cam)
      I still find myself getting lost, but keeping a calm mind and especially not worrying about losing time, being behind etc. but instead focusing on feeling satisfied and content with every day has helped lots.

    I had a bit of a video addiction. But it was a way for me to exscape a toxic and abusive relationship I was in that I didn't realize at the time was toxic and abusive. This person made me feel ashamed and disgusted in my interests and this included art. The things they made me feel made me stop drawing for close to a decade, even long after I had finally left them. I ended up spending 2 years of my life logged into one character in World of Warcraft... And a lot of the time, I was doing nothing in the game. Thinking back on it, it makes me so mad how much of my life was wasted away that I could had spent getting better at art. Now, I struggle with seeing younger people who are much better than me in art and I have to keep reminding myself that I had stopped drawing for nearly a decade all because of 1 person. Which stunted my growth.

    My main problem fright now us severe art block. It's now to the point I have very little will to want to do art. I don't know what to do. After scribbling for an hour or so I just close the program and go take a nap. Artist Depression is rough. 😢

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  5 місяців тому +1

      Can I offer you some advice that might seem counterintuitive? Art block isn’t your issue, my friend. You have a greater concern in your life that is invading your art experience. Think of art block as a symptom, not a cause. So, have you considered that, along with maybe that you can develop some new habits and better mindsets to support your efforts instead?

    Great video. Many thanks. You surprised me when you said you had a food addiction because you are so thin. As for me, I never got addicted to computer games because I decided to never play them - it worked. Basically you can't miss something that you never experience. It's the same reason I would never take drugs. However, I am so addicted to UA-cam. What I'm trying to do now is play peaceful music on youtube while I work as a way of watering down that addiction. But to have no noise at all while I work is sometimes too hard for me - especially when I do art. Anyway, that's my problem. I wish everyone else the best with their addictions because that feeling of being stuck in an addiction is very depressing.

      Thanks for sharing your own struggles as well! We all have our vices, right? 😅 can I clarify one thing though? I certainly don’t demonize video games, as I thoroughly enjoy them. But rather, you can enjoy something within a healthy dose of it and be disciplined enough to step away and work towards meaningful endeavors. Does that make sense?

    • @mytinyjapanesefarmandother2028
      @mytinyjapanesefarmandother2028 5 місяців тому

      I guess I do somewhat demonize video games - but I also somewhat demonize social media and TV. I think if you can have discipline around such things then that's great. But I think things such as social media and video games are very difficult - at least for me - to have discipline around. And don't even mention showing your artwork on social media and getting addicted to how many likes you get or comparing yourself to others - that one almost made me want to stop doing art lol. @@TheArtMentor

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  5 місяців тому +1

      @mytinyjapanesefarmandother2028 very true, and why discipline is so important isn’t it? You have to make the choice to move towards your goals or away, and sometimes you must either limit or block exposure to harmful influences, don’t you?

      Why is that your primary focus in your art?

  • @Sharperthanu1
    @Sharperthanu1 4 місяці тому

    It's not because I think I'm not worthy.Its because I know there are different types of people in the world with different types of abilities and we have to do what we're good at,as long as it's legal.For instance,I am not good at making UA-cam videos but there are other important things that I'm good at that people who are good at making UA-cam videos can't do.Also you must remember that if Van Gogh were alive today he would not be very good at technology.The same goes for Leonardo da Vinci because technology is not an artistic skill.

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  4 місяці тому

      @@TheArtMentor What I "deserve?" That's ridiculous.

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  4 місяці тому

      Have you ever considered that you may have an issue with comparison and that's impacting your perception of your value? If you don't think you deserve better than what's generally unacceptable within the marketplace, that may be the core issue why. Why do you concern yourself so much with what others are doing instead of what you can do?

    Unless it's for a cooperative effort, such as gaming, 3D conceptual product design, graphic design, UX/Web design and animation, or digital billboards and advertising, most people don't have the money for individual commissions these days... Not when rents are an average of $1500 per month, you're nursing that 15 year old clunker automobile along, and barely getting by otherwise - all while jobs don't pay well, and your position is always on the chopping block in favor of either cheaper labor or AI automation! Art is considered _"fluff"_ these days...
