Really a good band, and yes, a rockabilly sound definitely.
I've not seen this before. Morrissey is really fizzing off the crazy crowd, he's the closest to Elvis I've ever seen. I bet this ranks very high in his tv appearances.

I love how crazy fans go for Moz young and old. Every late show Morrissey's been on fans lose it. The last show i saw Moz on was some Yahoo douche bags show. He poked fun at Moz nobody laughed and Moz blew everyone away with, first of the gang to die❤ Lol cant remember who that was😂

I vividly remember watching this the night it aired. The Morrissey fans took over the show, I couldn't believe Johnny lost control of the audience. At least Bill Cosby played it to perfection.
Maybe should have tuned up for that second song.

That got wicked uncomfortable.
Honestly, I didn't even know Carson was still doing his show in the late 80's. To have Morrissey on the show must have been so odd for Carsons tv audiences to see. For them to see such a good performance of a song for the first time, I don't know if they would have liked it. I think the first song is catchy and good enough to have them like it enough to possibly buy the album. The second song though, I think would have made them change their mind.

The second, "There Is A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends" was an uptempo, guitar arrangement quite different from the album version. HIs fans loved it. Morrrissey had a huge audience in Los Angeles at the time due to a lot of play on KROQ. He then gathered a gigantic following among Mexicans. Morrissey lived in L.A. during that period. So it was not so odd for Carson's producer to book him.

Rarely was Carson flustered on TV. This was a year before Carson finally retired. Like so many of our heroes, time has proven Moz to be a talented person who was also a giant tool. A great performance, though.
