    Gotta shield yourself from the attention and publicity to protect that creative mind. She’s intelligent. She understood that ego is what ruins that creativity and then you end up like countless others after a solid debut album, but crap thereafter. Humility is so important. Shame that the satanic tribe of nomads that are the record executives shamelessly behave in such a destructive, parasitic manner. Shekels, anyone? 😂😂😂

    Kurt Cobain = Overrated Alice In Chains introduced the country to grunge btw. As a freshman in high school, I said that grunge was depressing and dystopic. 3 years later in May ‘95, I said that ‘94 would be considered the last great year in rock and rock was finished going forward. More or less, I was right.

    I said this on one of the posts that got deleted, but I had forgotten Kevin hosted 120 well into 89. Or he occasionally hosted that is. There were a lot of guest hosts in spring 89-Mojo Nixon, The Ramones, Tom Tom Club, Dead Milkmen, as well as a lot of other bands, hosted the show. The Ramones appeared in April of 89, around the time Pet Semetary opened. Best I can tell , Dave took over full time towards late summer of 89. Christmas Day 1989, Trent Reznor co-hosted with Dave, I think that was most peoples intro to NIN. There was no NYE 1989 120 minutes, which was Sunday December 31st 1989. MTV ran their Rockin' NYE Show that night, so no 120 Minutes episode was done for that week. I also said on that other deleted post that just before Christmas of 1989, I came down with a horrible case of the flu, and spent the entire week between Christmas and NYE that year on my ass. I caught a stomach bug or something in the midst of it, and I was in bad shape.I do recall somewhat watching that Christmas episode of 120, but I have zero recollection of NYE 1989. I think I came back into reality around Jan 2nd, 1990 !!

      And you know someone me once, someone who'd worked as a roadie, that those MTV NYE shows were taped usually just after Halloween !!! Which makes sense, but I still found it odd when I was told that.

    I remember watching this episode very clearly. I can recall wondering how "No New Tale to Tell" was in it, having been released late summer of 87,was included in it !!! I guess it still got a lot of airplay over the course of 1988. Midnight Oil, "Beds are burning" came out on top. Man, i got sick of that song over the course of summer 1988. The Swans. They seem to be another one of those bands where people are totally into them, or indifferent about them. I also cant believe they did not include the Cure's "Hot Hot Hot" in the top 20 of 1988. And where was Depeche Mode with "Strangelove"??!!!

  • @treysimmons7707
    @treysimmons7707 9 днів тому

    Several bands over the years have ended up with lucrative careers based on one hit !! This song has to keep these guys swimming in cash due to licensing. Someone pointed out to me a few years ago that Katrina and the Waves must rake in millions a year off licensing on "Walking on Sunshine", and a quick look at the Wiki page for the song notes that is indeed true. I wonder how much A Flock of Seagulls pull in a year off "I Ran". I looked up James just now, I had no idea they had done so well in their home country of the UK. They aren't a bad band, but not much by them has ever grabbed me. You know, if you'd like to know some of the weird things I lay in bed and think about at night, I sometimes wonder if members of any of the bands I've talked about here, and at other places on social media, have ever read what I am saying about them??!!!

      How can you not appreciate "Born of Frustration" or "She's a Star", just to name a couple? Those are equally massive jamz that I dug then and still do. Even here in the States, James was way more than just this particular track.

      They have quite a few good songs. I’ll post a few of you like And so does A flock of seagulls. UK produced great music into the mid-90s. Not simply Radiohead. While Americans were shooting themselves up with heroin and listening to nihilistic grunge, England was still producing inspiring music like Cocteau Twins, MBV, Ride, Blur, etc.

    Nirvana was not that great. Anyways- That Swervedriver LP is fantastic. I saw them blow the doors off a place in Atlanta fall of 1993. That Blur LP was okay, I never owned it,but a friend of mine had it and played it constantly for a while there. Primal Scream should have been way bigger. Achtung Baby gets a lot of shit, and U2 can be tiresome these days, but man what a fantastic LP. Who knew they could out do Joshua Tree. The Pixes are great,I never really explored their entire catalog though. The Red Hot Chili Peppers suck. Always have.

    Nirvana really changed everything. I was a young kid but I remember it well. As an adult who appreciates this era (wishing I was older in the early 90's to appreciate it then! ), I am actually disappointed in a way that Nevermind broke big. I think the UK scene was justttttt about to break here in the States and I would have preferred that! Hard to pick a favorite from the year 1991. Here's my top 3 albums from that year: Primal Scream- Screamadelica My Bloody Valentine- Loveless The Orb- Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld

      As much as I did/do like Nirvana, their dominant emergence def changed things, potentially for the worse...once they broke so big and were followed by a few other bands such as Pearl Jam etc, I think MTV wanted to put Brit music into the corner...got rid of Dave etc to foster & promote more American bands. I did see Nirvana only once, on Oct 4, 1991 at a small club in Chapel Hill, NC just a couple weeks after Nevermind was released...truly a great show where you aren't just waiting for a hit...every song rocks and resonates!

    great band,but they took an odd turn in 1988 into sort of a hip hop infliuenced, sample ridden type of sound, and threw their fan base off, they tried to recover from it with their next LP, but it did not work. These guys often get credit for starting what became the "Manchester" sound, I never saw that myself, they had more of a garage rock or almost a pop punk sound (Way way way ahead of its time). Check out their first 2 lps-Manic Pop Thrill and Babble, 2 great albums. Everything they did after those 2 is just meh.
