Amy suffered with severe facial pain which was diagnosed as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Micro Vascular Decompression (MVD) brain surgery was done for that. It did not help the pain. She also had migraine, fatigue, back pain etc. So she was prescribed several medications - Lamictal, Prozac, Xanax, Emgality, Maxalt and Sumatriptan spray.
Amy had tried everything that she knew of to get relief. She had seen her PCP, neurologist, neurosurgeon, Physical Therapists, 2 ENT specialists etc.
Yet she had constant facial pain which flared up to “lighting strikes” few times a month. She had constant headaches which flared up to migraines few times a month. Amy also had constant back pain which flared up to require bed rest few times a month.
Fatigue and daytime sleepiness were constant and made no difference if she slept a long time. In lab sleep studies determined that she had no sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Amy was also considered the family klutz for losing balance all the time.
Amy went through detailed diagnostic tests including our unique "Raman CCMD Protocol" of Physiologic Neuro Muscular Dental (PNMD) procedure to determine the optimal jaw alignment. She was then fitted with a neuromuscular fixed orthotic for 90 days as a reversible phase 1 treatment. This is both a therapeutic and diagnostic step.
Within the first week her symptoms were improving. Her facial pain, migraines, headaches, fatigue, jaw pain and neck pain improved greatly. The surprise was her balance improving 100%. Within 6 weeks of phase 1, all of her symptoms were significantly improved far exceeding her expectations. Amy remarked that she did not even know that her balance could be improved. It was not even on her radar since she had accepted that she was just a klutz!
The Phase 2 option that Amy chose was Neuromuscular Functional Orthodontics / Orthopedics. While keeping the Fixed orthotic to keep the jaw alignment, braces and removable appliance were used to correct the upper jaw shape. Once that was achieved the fixed orthotic over the lower teeth was removed in stages while the remaining orthotic maintained the alignment. The exposed teeth were brought up along with the gum and bone support to meet the upper teeth. This was repeated until all natural teeth were brought up to meet the upper teeth. In this process, the lower natural teeth meet the upper teeth without the fixed orthotic. The teeth are coming together where they ideally should have been for long term.
