This is my favourite Winglet video, no only for the story but also because it shows also the evolution of his animations, it kinda remind me that TheWinglet wasn't always the master of SFM, he improved in the years, and it's motivating people to use SFM
More like “The Story of Rick May the legendary soldier” Rest In Peace Rick May “You magnificent bastard, you’ll be miss” “You were good son, real good; maybe even the best” “Remember son, Dying is gay” - Soldier
Damn, just as I watched this, that was the first thing that popped up in my head.. rip rick may, he shall rocket jump to heaven and inspire others with his rocket alone.
If only people were more like this story portrays. Honestly sad to think on how rare interactions like that might actually be. Rest in peace, Rick May. We'll do our best to do you proud.
This amazing animation was just a way for Winglet to flex on us with his rocket jumping skills. Also, I love how he included soldiers that he met online into the animation, that's heartwarming.
Seeing this video and reading the comments on how they can make the community better, guys c’mon listen to your selfs this vid brought you good guys here and with most of us here hell might as well go on discord together and make this dream a possibility
Alrighty, I dont know if theres an official discord for tf2 and if there is i havent found it so: heres a new unofficial discord to bring the community together: discord.gg/ppyAvDH
The community is GREATLY AWESOME, they "single handedly" made this game survive for so long But there is still things to work with, like helping new players and to stop the toxicity, although very unlikely, it can calm down a bit
This should and is based on a true story for many. TF2 is the only community that would offer to help someone get better instead of rubbing salt in the wound
I watched this a couple years ago and it always stuck with me, in the back of my mind. It kept me going. I kept telling myself you can do this when things got tuff. It really helped. I don’t know where I was going with this but if your reading this then thanks. Have a great day.
To the Soldier whom I met in a jump map 9 years ago that taught me how to rocket jump, thank you. It was just for a few days but you taught me one of the best movement skills ever in a videogame. I'm sorry for not remembering your name, you're probably deep buried in my Steam friends list.
Let me tell you a little story guys. December 2014 I've met a F2P who had no misc, weapons or something on the panda jump server with the map jump_academy_b3(?) He had huge problems on the wall course and so I did it with him slowly through. He needed on jump 3 10-15 minutes but he didn't gave up at all Fast forward 2 days: We went to the jump_academy_b3 again and did the wall course again. He completed jump 3 less than a minute and already jumped very good at the other obstacles few days later we began the pogo course and gosh he learned quick but still has small problems with the timing. I gifted him my old virtual viewfinder and he loved it. Now he is a player who extinguish players as pyro, uses voice commands, trades and can do the basics of wall- and rocketjumping. And my dear players, happend only in december only with the help of one player. Thank you for reading Tl;dr: I helped a F2P so he has skills like a 3k player EDIT: Wow guys 40 likes?? I just wanted to tell what happend and that other players with over 1k hours, go on a jump server and help new players with your skill. Another thing you can do is to be trainer for a player. (This system isn't that great tough..) The best thing is if you go on a server, see a player that is new and ask him kindly if he wants your help. If so then add him and become friends. Trust me, you will get close friends with him/her as soon you help him/her. But theres one thing: if you want to do it, theres no turning back. You choose to help your student, then do so. If you like the Idea then please join my stamgroup "Free to Teach" steamcommunity.com/groups/free2teach Edit #2: Holy mother of josef! So many of you guys joined the group! I seriously didn't expect that to happen :) Well, thanks to everyone who support us and the players that need help. We have now over *260 players* in it! Thank everyone of you for doing their part and helping the group grow :) Special thanks to The Winglet himself for doing this video that let me create this group, to the jump academy for giving me the idea to not only teach rocketjumping but also competitive, casual, trading and other gameplay things. Also special thanks to my admin "judge dan" for doing his job perfectly and last but not least: special thanks to my first ever student. Edit #5: *spits coffee out* what happend?? this was me back 3 years ago and i still don't have tf2 cuz i use my phone but i play TC2 and rocket jumping is hard but another player taught me how to rocket jump and now I'm great but still learning a lot
If kindness is given to you, never keep it to yourself, spread it to those around you, and who knows. The same kindness you spread might spread back to you.
The story of every rocket jumping soldier... Even the greatest heroes of rocket jumping were zeroes. And every zero will become hero. You just have to keep trying. Everyone believes in you, hero!
litteraly i had to watch and learn cuz there were no one to help me at all even when i asked im a decent player just by practicing seeing different tactics all tht help goes along way i help people today as best as i can a friend i met i helped him out by he just got tf2 just started trading and to help him i gave him a key
This is a actual masterpiece. It shows how a soldier plays and learns from other people gameplay but can never get better at it. The veterans are who encourage them to keep practising and learning from their mistakes. (Than the cycle continues)
The Jump Academy and other jump community server have really helped me! I've met many awesome people too, who take the time and have the patience to try to teach me the jumps! To all those peeps out there: I don't know if you'll read this, but thank you! Also, i now even find myself teach a newbie or two some jumps
I wish players were like this because once i went to a jump academy, and barely anyone helped cuz it took me a long time to grasp the concepts of some jumps. There were only like 2 helpful people who stuck around for more than ten minutes. I asked my friend for help but they were to interested in other games. So basically i would practice so much everyday that my hand would hurt until i could do jumps i wanted to do. So it's been my personal goal to help as many f2p i find. This might seem a little cliche but honestly, all pros should be like these soldiers and not arrogant players with their noise up all the time.
+Zachary Miller The thing with being on JA as a teacher is the inflow of people wanting to learn. For almost 2 years now JA has had an issue with not enough teachers to help about 25,000 ish players. I myself am a teacher, but a lot of the time when i try to help, I get about 3 or 4 persons asking for help at the same time. So trying to help them all at the same time is hard on concetration. And if you tell them to wait they end up leaving because of how long it can sometimes take even with help to finish 1 jump for 1 player only. ALso, teachers are players just like you and me who have stuff to do like school and jobs, but we teachers are regular people helping out others for free and spending out free time helping, and students don't really understand that concept.
"That was one hell of a Campaign, Son!" When i get older, im gonna teach my kids to never give up on what you wanna do Rest, Rick may, just you rocket jump as much as you like.
Stories like these are the only reason I haven't given up all hope for humanity. I know it may be sad or mean but we all know it's true, people can and will be real jerks. Only those who are truly mature will show kindness for other people that are struggling and help them by showing and being a good example even when no one else will. I love people who are willing to help others when they are struggling and give them encouragement instead of scolding or making fun of them.
I was terrible at rocket jumping. Saw this a week ago. Got excited, and I joined Jump Academy. I'm a very skill full p2p (no brag intended) yet I was shit at rocket jumping. Stuck on one bit of the wall course, until about 10 minutes passed of me just failing. Then a Gibus f2p found me, then watched me for a bit. Then he taught me and didn't give up. I'm not a expert at rocket jumping, but I'm now really good because a Gibus believed in me (sorry if that sounds rude). I never expected a fairly new f2p to be teaching me, an old p2p tf2 player how to do master techniques in rocket jumping. This just goes to show how friendly some people are, and to NEVER judge a book by it's cover. I'm still in training with him, and I've got an upgrade to premium gift for him at the end of the month as a thank you gift. Never doubt a Gibus Soldier.
i still dont understand the mentality of the whole p2p and f2p thing im a f2p and i got really into the pyro and have gotten fairly adept at using him the airblast is a incredibly satisfying tool to learn i hear that alot with many of the other classes.
Damn, this type of shit nearly brings a tear to my eyes. As a UA-camr myself, people always add me on Steam, wanting me to play TF2 with them. 9 times out of 10, they're god awful at it, and are F2Ps. They always get really embarrassed because they think that I dislike them for that, or that they're ruining my videos. Afterwards, I always spend the rest of that day teaching them the ways of every class, and game-modes. Eventually, some of them skyrocketed in terms of skill, all with different playing styles. Through my year long journey of creating TF2 videos, I've helped out around 10 once F2Ps, and now at least 4 of them play competitively. I never thought of giving them a hat, but instead, I gave them a strange variant of the stock primary of their favorite class, most which were Soldiers or Snipers. We sometimes still play TF2Center matches with each other, and a few months ago, someone I helped over a year ago messaged me on Steam, and told me he was in a UGC Highlander team, and that he was very thankful for my teachings. That shit made my day, man. Go help a F2P, make TF2 a better place.
Damn. They're had a luck with you. But,i think you will never teach me how to Rocket Jump. But i know basics of it. So good luck Zozerozos.Have a nice day (days)
My problem is that I don't really suck at rocket jumping but I still need help,I have good items i.e. Strange spec killstreak scattergun and botkillers, both of Wich I bought on the market I still use the stock rocket launcher I have not strange of that if anyone would help me my steam name at the moment is *Still Alive*

This shows how it's supposed to be, the pro's should help the newbs, not mock them, everyone was a noob at some point, nobody is born a pro, it's only fair to share your wisdom and experience I remember in a game, every pro had a tactic how to get really high scores, but nobody told the newbs about it, they kept mocking them, until one day I shared the trick to the whole community and most newbs beat the 'pros' :)
Haki Master That still dosen't make you a pro. You just know how it works, but it takes practice to mater that. Took me a WEEK to learn how to Rocket Jump effectively, and even NOW I still kinda suck (I can rocket jump, just not hit the enemies in the air
I wasn't much pro burn i learn I have skill on being a demo kinght i sometimes people who need helps at demo light i teach them so I make use ful of my skill after that
Like 1 years ago i think at May or June (i not remember), I was so bad at rocket jumping. So I started joined jump academy but I almost give up at Wall Course. And I realized 2 guy teached me how to do it. They never give up teaching me. I really appreaciated that. Now, I can do all course at jump academy. At the same time, I help them who are new at JA. Not try to be a teacher but just make sure that they know how to do rocket jump. Same like in this animation. I don't know how help me but I appreaciated them and thanks.
man, cant believe this is the video that inspired me to rocket jump... its been 7 long years and this video still holds up to be one of my favorite sfms to ever exist
This tears me up. I recently had a friend who just got into tf2 for the first time, and he comes from a lot of classic shooters like doom (he really liked soldier because of similar gameplay) where rocket jumping was vastly different and i had to explain to him why it's so different in tf2
Happy 10th anniversary for the server I know it's a bit late but this popped on my feed just now and brought back so much nostalgia - thank you random soldiers from an old lobby for helping me out back then when I struggled as soldier main 😄
one of the first sfms i ever watched, the best part is that I actually met someone like this before, they taught me to do rollouts on upward, god I wish I still had them on my friends list.
This happened to me in pokémon when I was younger. I was in a forum and the forum's admin taught the battle section's mod how to play competitive, he taught me, and later I became the mod, and I taught another kid as well. When I stopped playing, I found out that my student became the next mod, I was so proud of our legacy.
I missing my old memories as f2p in 2015, little story When i was first time playing tf2 my first gameplay is in 2fort and im so so confused and be useless for my team, and that time i was playing soldier, i try many times to rocket jump and i fail every singel jump, and map change i move to badwater basin and says: "Wow this map is huge than the previous map i can rocket jump here" And i can rocket jump but i still bad at soldier so i say: "Hm maybe i cant go soldier and move on to different class" But i still cant everytime i play different class i got killed many times so i move to soldier again That time i play in hightower and i say "Wow so many soldiers around this will be great place for soldiers* I try to market garde WITH SHOVEL cause i have no market gardener at that time and fail again and again and i say in chat: "How can i rocket jump?" Then a red soldier (sorry i forgot his name) he say come follow me and then he say: "You cant rocket jump, right?" And i say: "Yes how can i rocket jump?" He say: "I think you make a mistake while rocket jumping" I say: "What do you mean mistakes i do it right i just cant He say: "ok now follow me" And he say again: "Im going to teach you how to rocket jump first And then he train me for SO DAMN LONG and i have so many mistake that i realized and he teach me until i good and even give me a robotic soldiers set and a market gardener tool And now i good at market gardening and be usefull for my teammates and now i play in 2020 i look many player is kicking f2p and salty So that story Edit: wow thanks for 117 likes (:
It’s kinda nice to see this, it reminds me of my first time playing TF2, I was a scout who had no idea what to do but then someone came along and told me how to use my mobility and showed me a few cool places that I could get to that other classes couldn’t, it the community that keeps TF2 going
I cant count how many times I have watched this and it still brings tears to my eyes. It perfectly represents the growth of a tf2 player over time. Someone helps you out at the beginning and then you pass that knowledge/love along. Almost 10 million views. Deserves more:)

Still not 🤣🤣
Let me tell you a little story guys.
December 2014
I've met a F2P who had no misc, weapons or something on the panda jump server with the map jump_academy_b3(?)
He had huge problems on the wall course and so I did it with him slowly through.
He needed on jump 3 10-15 minutes but he didn't gave up at all
Fast forward 2 days: We went to the jump_academy_b3 again and did the wall course again. He completed jump 3 less than a minute and already jumped very good at the other obstacles
few days later we began the pogo course and gosh he learned quick but still has small problems with the timing.
I gifted him my old virtual viewfinder and he loved it. Now he is a player who extinguish players as pyro, uses voice commands, trades and can do the basics of wall- and rocketjumping.
And my dear players, happend only in december only with the help of one player.
Thank you for reading
Tl;dr: I helped a F2P so he has skills like a 3k player
EDIT: Wow guys 40 likes?? I just wanted to tell what happend and that other players with over 1k hours, go on a jump server and help new players with your skill.
Another thing you can do is to be trainer for a player. (This system isn't that great tough..) The best thing is if you go on a server, see a player that is new and ask him kindly if he wants your help. If so then add him and become friends. Trust me, you will get close friends with him/her as soon you help him/her.
But theres one thing: if you want to do it, theres no turning back. You choose to help your student, then do so.
If you like the Idea then please join my stamgroup "Free to Teach" steamcommunity.com/groups/free2teach

What's his Username? I'd love to give him a gift.
this soothe my heart
I like the fact that the soldier who taught him wasn't seen again, similar to how we never really remember who taught us major aspects of TF2
