0:45 I love how it's stuck into the toilet and immediately after into Jordan's mouth. Great editing there. 😂
The next one in the sequence fits too! Kinda sets the expectation for what one might expect to see in Jordan's mouth, doesn't it? ;)
Part of the DIY Home Colonoscopy kit.
This is the lens which was used in the BBC Series 'Green Planet' by the evergreen David Attenborough. iirc, they created custom rigs and used the lens to provide amazing 'walk throughs' of plants growing. I remember thinking 'way to go Laowa' because they are turning out to be an innovative camera lens company. I have no affiliation with Laowa but I have owned several of their lenses and were I a videographer I'd probably have this on my list to buy.
It wasn’t this, the periprobe lens, it was their probe lens.
@@oblitafier Is you hobby splitting hairs by any chance?
@@enigmabletchley6936 Yes the original Laowa 24mm scope was used extensively on the series not the probe, however the BBC engineering folk created a DIY prism for the Laowa scope . I never saw or used this prism adaptation on the series, so was intrigued to see that Laowa have now bought this out. Having said this, I would' have much preferred a 45' prism, as I find this way more useful than the 90' for conventional camera moves, so hope this also comes out at some point...
This lens really has changed the ad industry
You said it in the end, there really is no other lens like this available that can do what these lenses can do. I'm counting on having access to spaces with this lens that I just can't get to otherwise. Thanks for a pretty darn good introduction. Sold.
Laowa is my favorite lens company already.
So cool, can’t wait to see more amazing and unique things done with this
So many interesting videos were made with the previous version. Can't wait to see the results with the new periscope.
Waiting for the periprobe. At last! Thanks, boyz
Lol, I spat out some coffee on the last line of your intro. Best one yet.
Glad to see more and more innovative Chinese companies come to global market with great tech products. Proud of them.
Love the aquarium shots. Very Stalker-esque. ;-)
I've always wanted to buy a slider kit, every video with this probe lens gets me thinking about it again.
A while back I saw a Laowa representant on twitter asking Peter Mckinnon if he wanted to test a lens even weirder than the probe lens. So I think this is what he was talking about. Oh, and Peter never answered the dude.
Just used this lens in the intro for my video this morning lol what a coincidence
Not bad, that quote was actually understandable: "Handelsschiffe gesichtet, Herr Kaleun"
Grabbed this lens last year December. I think the biggest thing that drives me crazy is that it is so damn sensitive to movement creating micro jitters :( No matter what type of auto slider you have it will always throw out some jitter. The lens runs hot in image color as well and requires a lot of lighting to make things look really good but like with any lens , the more u use it the more you ll figure out how it will look the best
agree very sensitive on most rigs...
Loved "Das Boot" reference...
Didn't the also tease a 0.71 reducer for the probe lens?
"Have fun with probes" is maybe not the out line I'd have used... 😆
Stay indoors together and do a lot of probing * sexy music starts * I see what you did there.
This seems like an incredibly niche tool but also the right tool for that niche
can I use polarise filter / sheet at this lens ?
did you turn off the in body stabilisation? it will mess up with the flip images as i heared.
Damn, guess Chris watched "Das Boot" at some point in his life
Many, many, many times.
@@niccollsvideo I only watched the whole thing a couple of days ago for the first time, but damn is it a good movie...
@@maximilianf.4236
Movie is an edited down version, the TV series is 6 hours in total if I remember.
@@SMGJohn Wasn't the TV series Based on the Movie and the Movie was based on a book?
@@maximilianf.4236
Both are based on the book.
The TV series had a focus on the character development while the directors cut movie focused more on action sequences.
They released a blu ray in 2018 with 30 hours of content with all the movies and the TV series.
They are just cut differently for different TV channels at the time.
Which is more impressive: the probe lens, the periscope attachment, or Chris' fluent German?
Do you know where we can buy the periprobe? I can only find the original probe lens without the new attachment
Hi Travis, check our website. www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-24mm-t14-2x-periprobe/
Handelsschiff gesichtet Herr Kaleun! 😅
It’s all fun until the experience of "crisp, sharp 90 degree corners" of the PeriProbe are realized
Great they improved upon the previous gen. Reaffirms my concept of never buying first gen of anything electronic! Sadly in this case this is surely an improvement but at minimum 50% higher cost . In Canada. Over 3 grand closing in on 4 grand and image quality is mediocre
@2:30 I'm german and I guess that word was supposed to be german because I could make out "Handelsschiffe" (cargo ship) but I have no clue about the rest of the word. Can you give me a hint? Please!
Handelsschiffe gesichtet, Herr Kaleun! (Kapitänleutnant)
Cargo ships sighted, mr lieutenant captain!
@@davidantweiler4729 Da wäre ich nie drauf gekommen! Danke für die Übersetzung. Sogar mit dem Wissen was es heißen soll ist es schwer zu verstehen.
I would never have figured that out! Thanks for the translation. Even with the knowledge what it`s supposed to mean it is hard to recognice.
@@henrymueller7741 It might be from classic Deutch film "Das Boot" I guess
@@henrymueller7741 from one German guy to the other, it's easy to understand if you've watched Das Boot.😁
@@tommihommi1 Having played some Uboat game (forgot the name) many years ago also helps :-)
At $2299 not all that bad for what you can do even for stills! The only complaint is it is not "Chipped" or no contacts. Back when Rokinon came out with the 14mm f/2.8 the distortion was terrible and Lr was first with a LP but not for a year and not even Rokinon's LP worked, used C1. But not even adding lens info with Lenstagger will a post program identify. Now for stills you can use the little known lens profile/dust removal in Phase One Capture One using a white plastic square plate that lets you adjust things. I use for my old Canon FD lenses to do some distortion correction but very rare. The one thing to add is that effective Macro lenses are the old film lenses at greater than 135mm and you are so far away and have to use focus stacking to get more in focus and/or use tubes that use less of the sensor to get a sorta closer appearing subject and sometimes putting a lens on backwards, yes backwards. Made for full frame even a tube or two could get a closer view. Thanks to all the new enlargement software. Exp. some of the best macro lenses are found on the old darkroom poles talkabout big!
The mirror in the periscope should be replaced with a prism, more specifically the type used in right angle viewfinders with un-reversed image. It would make the lens even more prohibitively expensive to mere mortals, but it would make the lens more user friendly ... and probably improve image quality.
Surely to fix your issue with the frame not being perpendicular to the axis of the probe, you just need to rotate the periscope a little? The right angle of the periscope attachment messes with your mind, so this isn't intuitive!
It wasn't off axis on rotation but actually off axis in line with the shaft. No amount of rotation will.fix that.
@@niccollsvideo If, for example, you clamped the PeriProbe in place perfectly vertically, outdoors, pointing at the horizon, then rotating the camera on the mount would tilt the image on the sensor, tilting the horizon, wouldn't it?
So I'm pretty sure the problem was that your slider rig wasn't flat.
Your fake German is hilarious. :D But the probe is really fancy!
I can save some money and have my wife do my colonoscopy.
But seriously, this pretty cool and very innovative.
That porno music at the ending though!
Which shot did you do first? The toilet or Jordan's mouth?😭
I had to rewind thrice to understand, that you are speaking U-Boot German and not japanese. 😁
And I am a German. 🤪
I also thought he was speaking Japanese 😂
@@ShalphyLee I got "Kaleun" and needed to rewind only once B-)
Actual actual actual actually actual actually?
One ping only.
He really wants a free sample. 😂
2:28 What language is this?
German. Roughly translates to "Merchant ships in sight, Captain."
@@jochenkraus7016 Ich bin Deutscher und habe da kein deutsches Wort herausgehört.
@@timwra Handelsschiffe gesichtet, Herr Kaleun.
Ich mußte einmal zurückspulen. Es hilft, vor vielen Jahren Das Boot gesehen und U-Boot-Computerspiele gespielt zu haben :-)
Life's too short...
Might be a big rental house item, but not for me…
Probably DOA.
Hahah, wait what?
Cool - but man, it's a lot of money!
I could get a brand new Canon R7 with an RF-S 18-150 and an EF adapter cheaper.
and you couldn't do any of the things that you can do with this lens.
I'm sure the porn industry could find a use or two for this.
I appreciate the joke but I had to listen 4 times to understand your german, might need a little refinement 😅
What’s this? A product for actual creatives instead of gearheads like me!? Get out of here! 🤣
Dude in the toilet then his mouth? Someone’s been watching idiocracy to many times.
chris should seriously work on his german pronounciation, i had to skip back 3 times to get what he meant to say
