Thanks for the video. I watched it a couple times and it took me about 40 mins on my 2015 F150.

IF YOU ARE DOING THE DRIVER DOOR READ THIS. If anyone else is going to attempt this, unclip the window from the two bottom guides and tape it up. Remove the bar that’s the way completely. You can remove the whole assembly and put it back in all in once piece. DO NOT DO WHAT THIS GUY does. While he was was very helpful with some information, what I said above will make it 1000 times easier. I had to have a friend who works in a body shop come show me what to do. You will never reinstall the three inner pieces together on the driver door. There isn’t enough room and you cannot reassemble inside the door. I hope this helps

I wish I would have known this. Does this work the same on the back door that I did? From a comment up above it sounds like it, but perhaps he also did the front door.

@@lberg6689 yes! The window tracks function similarly in the front and rear doors.

Yes, take the glass out , takes 2 minutes and gives you access to door handle nuts. I just did one in 50 minutes...some said took 2-3 hours, even replacing just the lock actuator, have to disassemble latch from track. you don't want to bend the glass track.

I have a 2016 lariat f150 , and for a while now the drivers door lock will not unlock on occasion. It nudges up when you use the remote or drivers side switch . It locks fine, just intermittently does not want to go up all the way ,but just move a few millimeters. I wonder why it’s fine at times but not others . It’s summer here right now so not condensation freezing the mechanism.
I’m debating to spray some lube in around the door lock at the top of the door and see if lubricantion helps ,but I’m thinking the actual solenoid is maybe crapping out . Disappointing to say the least , as I only have 18,000 miles on this truck and it’s still like new

It is possible the motor is starting to fail, so any fix other than a replacement may be temporary; however, I saw a video from a person with the same issue, where you could see the actuator was trying to move, whereas mine was not. That person took the door panel off and found the plastic was rough around the door lock knob. He sanded that with high grit sandpaper to smooth it out. I would make sure to use very high grit sandpaper if you try this. May also have done the same to the hole in the door panel - can't recall but sounds like a good plan. When he put the door panel back on it was working again. Worth the 10-minute fix to try it out. You could try lube. If it works, likely would only be temporary and may make it worse through dust collection if it is a problem as I describe above.

This video is very helpful, but Ford does cover these under extended warranty right now. They actuators are prone to failure due to moisture intrusion. They will replace it for free if it fails from internal corrosion.

I have bought two door ajar switches one for the passenger front and one for the driver side front for my year model truck but when you go to take the latch out they are not removable they are part of the latch so why is it able for me to buy the door ajar switches separately for my year model doesn't make any sense. I too have a 2016 F-150 crew cab. Does that particular model have to have a whole new latch for the switch?

I really appreciate you making this video. Where did you get the new part from? Do you have the part number?

    • @lberg6689

A local Ford dealer had the part. I am traveling but can look for the part number on the invoice when I get home but it will be a few weeks.

For those about to do this REMOVE THE WINDOW!!!
It makes this so much easier you will thank me in the end.
I have no idea how this guy got the actuator in there again with the bar in the way without destroying the new actuator.
With the window out you can move that stupid bar all the way to the other side of the door.
Even then it was a tight squeeze getting that damned actuator with rail in there.

I think from start to finish it took me around 3 hours. I could have done it fast with better lighting and a simple knowledge of what I was looking for. I think I could now do it in an hour.
