2 years after it’s posted, still saving lives! Mine just started working intermittently so I’ll be buying an actuator and changing it when the warm weather gets here.
Thanks! I just replaced the lock on my 2014 F-150 driver side door using these instructions. The dealer wanted $350+ and I got it done for the $80 price of the part! I would not have had any idea how to do it without your video. The only difference was my door has another connection for the keyless keypad. It took me about 1.5 hours, but it could have been much faster if I didn't double and triple check everything. Keep up the great videos!
Doing my drivers side door this weekend on my 2010 STX Supercab. I pray my passenger side doesn't fail in the next 2 days or my truck will be as useful as a glass hammer. Your straightforward video gives me some relief regarding the process. I picked up a Dorman 937-673 Front Left unit for $123+tax Lifetime Warranty. I didn't want to go the eBay/Amazon route for fear of premature failure. They had some cheapies, but on err of caution I was quick to avoid. Tremendous thanks for making the video and to the people that create these step by step guides.
Excellent video, just 1 question. 2012 f150, how do I get access to change a rear door actuator if the door can not be opened at all from inside or outside?
Thank you for this excellent video. Your tremendous detail allowed me to follow along step by step while I changed out the actuator on my 2009 Ford 150 XLT. My driver's side actuator had failed. The only thing that was different for me was that I had to disconnect a rod that connects the actuator to the key hole. Once I figured that out it was just a process of following your video. Saved me a couple hundred dollars by doing it myself. Thanks again.
Thanks for this video. I just replaced the module in my truck I followed each of your steps and went very well. The only thing I did differently was to remove the switch panel.
Great video! I wish I had spent more time on the diagnosis. A broken wire can give similar symptoms to a failing actuator. Mine would work sometimes but not always. There are 4 wires on the actuator electrical connector. One should be positive all the time, one will not show power, and of the other two, one locks and the other unlocks so you would only see power on them for a moment after locking or unlocking. If you're not getting this, you probably have a bad switch or broken wire. My broken wire was about an inch from the connector in the door frame where there's a lot of stress as the door opens and closes. The boot was torn up as well. Just check things out really well before ordering the actuator.
Excellent! Appreciate the instructions! I will say getting the unit out if the door was much harder than expected, as well as getting the new one in, thanks to the limited space Ford gives us! However, I'm back in business now! Good stuff!
thanks for the video. going to check my passenger door to see if the actuator failed first. then, if needed, order that part. i just replaced the broken moonroof parts thanks to another video and that saved me about $2300 and replaced the hub actuators for the 4wd system from yet another video saving me another $800. this is just icing on the cake. much appreciated.
Good video, I used it to replace both the right side actuators about a year ago. Replaced the front drivers side today. It is a bit more difficult and since there is an extra rod to disconnect and reconnect. Also have to unplug the mirror adjustment wiring. Got it done though. Can't imagine how ever figuring it out with a video. Thanks!
Thanks for the demo. The rear door lock on my crew cab just quit working so your video is very timely. Explained great, hope the rear door lock assembly works the same way.
ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO I just changed the rear driver’s side door lock on my 2014 F150 Super Crew, and it keeps showing a warning message that the door is ajar. Is that because it’s an after-market actuator (Dorman), or is there some sort of system reset needed? Also great job on this video. One handed? You are incredible. I used 2 hands and a few curse words and still had issues Tetris-ing it out of the door cavity! I could have used another hand or two!
Thanks for the video. Walked me through the replacement. Wasnt bad except getting the damn thing out and a new one back in. I did one on a Dodge Dakota that I had several years ago and it was the same way with removal/replacement room. Thanks again.
thank you very much for the video. Everything perfect for my Ford F-150 got it done in less than an hour. My wife thanks you as well so now she doesn't have to reach through the window to open the door lol. Only thing I would add to your video is if you close the pink clip when you're trying to remove the devices makes it a little bit easier
Even doing that single handed, you made it look easy! now I understand why mechanics get the $$ - I will just take mine in instead of trying to remember that! Thanks for explaining though, because now I know what is wrong so I can tell them...
Fixed it, thanks to your video. Do you have any videos on the rear door? Mine will not open from the inside or outside and I can't get to the actuator...
I just did this same repair on a 2008 Ford Focus. The door latch assembly looks identical to the Focus one. I had to go with an aftermarket one since I couldn't find a Ford one online. On the Focus, the latch assembly attaches to the door handle reinforcement which I had just replaced on this car about two weeks prior and so that rod that attaches to that pink clip that you opened comes out all together. I just pinched the retainer buttons on the other side of that pink clip so I didn't have to open that clip when replacing the latch assembly. Nice video.
Thanks!! The Border Patrol chopped off the rod for the door lock in the truck I bought from them (to keep the bad guys from unlocking the door), so I gotta replace it. Great video.
Great video. If you take the lower nut off of the window regulator and loosen the top bolt it will give you a little more room by pushing it in from the bottom to get the new door actuator in.
Thank you kind Sir. Great videos. Great shots, we really see what you are talking about. Well explained. With one hand. Waw. That is high level mastery skils. ❤
