Paying their fair taxes doesn’t get them access to the seats of power.
Well paying Trump is money passing from one old white guy who inherited their money to another old white guy who inherited their money. Paying taxes would most likely also come back to them in the form of subsidies but there's a small chance it might end up paying for food or healthcare for someone of a different social class or skin colour and that's unacceptable.
It's an investment. Pay $800K now in the hopes of not paying $10 million in taxes later.

Just wanna say I began watching this show religiously after the one time Seth asked how we were doing and stared at the screen for a response. It was a very rough time during the pandemic and i needed that that particular day and time.

It's no more or less disgusting than really poor people wanting to pay less taxes. EVERYBODY wants to pay less. But most of us understand that we live in a society that runs on tax funding. What's necessary is to have a tax structure that puts a greater burden on the rich than on the poor, because the rich have far more than they need, and can afford to carry the masses who are struggling to get by. It's a fair system, in concept. The tricky part is in deciding the size of each person's contribution and getting it in a straight-forward and transparent way.

What I wanna know is how these people get to spend $800,000 at a fundraiser, when Joe average American has a $3300 limit on how much they can contribute to an electoral campaign.
Oh because it was hosted by an individual, the contributions above the limits to the candidate, the party all go to Trump’s PAC- no limits on PAC donations. Basically campaign finance reform is undermined.

They only pay 8% on what they claim as income. They pay essentially nothing when their money is growing and is invested bc there are no capital gains taxes. They take loans against their assets to live off of and don’t incur income taxes on those. It’s even more unfair than the numbers suggest.
