It was meant to be a joke; the end of the sentence was "...he had a friend for dinner!" I'm not sure if the media, comedians, commentators, etc are genuinely baffled by this or are purposely pretending they don't get it to ridicule Trump further. I think Trump is jealous that Biden can crack jokes (albeit Biden's are funny, and directly related to Trump's failures and weirdness). The funniest part was that not one person in the crowd laughed! Trump's just continues to prove he's as funny as he is honest as he is successful as he is smart! He ought to stick to talking and boasting about what he is good at; inheriting and defrauding money. He knocks those abilities out of the park!

I'm from Wildwood, lived there 30+ yrs, my family owned a thriving business there for over 40+. They sold it & moved a few yrs back due to the politics & police corruption.
I know damn near everyone down there, and I didn't recognize a soul in that crowd - not a one.
My cousin, who still works/lives there, said all of the locals were on the boards booing at the crowd. She said there were about 7 thousand there - tops. They all came & most left really early.
No one stayed in any motels/hotels, no one went on the boards, no games, rides, etc. No one spent any money, they all were northern imports, all came in & left right away. Really great for the economy, right? BS. So bizarre.

Trump tends to play the “telephone game” with himself, where he keeps getting more abstract from one rally to the next. The Hannibal Lecter thing started out as his illustration of the differences between insane asylums and mental institutions, the inmates of which Trump claims the Mexican government is sending over the border into the U.S.. Trump at some point in his never-ending rally tour decided he had to explain why he said both “insane asylums” and “mental institutions.” Mexico is emptying out neither, so it’s a moot point to begin with. Trump’s concept of an insane asylum is based on the one in Silence of the Lambs. Even with the context, his Lecter comments are still pretty damn weird.

Think I saw some exegesis the first time he mentioned "Hannibal Lector" some months ago. That he thought the actor who played Lector approved of him, cheeto. But more than one actor played Lector, and Hopkins had some words of denial re approving of the orange menace. And now he's just clinging to the idea of anyone who feeds his ego with admiration. But in the dementia soup it's like Dali and PIcasso in a collision.
He talked about Capone, associating his nickname, Scarface linking the name to the Al Pacino film, then linking the pacino film to the contemporary Silence of the lambs, featuring the late, great Hannibal Lecter. It was all there.
