Thanks for sharing this with everyone. I will add that Iodized salt contains additional compounds such as potassium iodide, dextrose, and calcium silicate to prevent clumping and add iodine. These additional compounds can introduce impurities into your plating solution, potentially affecting the plating process and the quality of the plated surface.
That’s interesting I made a nickel sulfate solution and used platinum as an inert anode. It’s a little different but matches my needs. I like this for common applications though!
I'm beginning my plating journey... Which company did you get the power supply from? Just the listing item name from ebay or amazon would be very helpful. Thank You!
Make sure to check out the new Zippo Fanatic 77 Outdoors channel as this old one was hacked. Just search in the youtube search bar and be sure to include the new outdoor part. He's back! Let's help him get the channel rebuilt!
hi love this every time i try to make the solution i have to keep ajusting the vdc and amp and cant get the green sloution the nickel plates are well worn can you adivse
I notice in the video that the current jumps from 0.78 to 1.21 after a cut. Does the electrolyte cause that as it gets more concentrated or did you add more salt?
When you make this solution it doesn't matter what is the cathode or anode, I always use the same size of nickel strips - but it does matter when you start plating with this solution. The salt doesn't do anything, it's just used to make the water electrically more conductive. And wear safety goggles, you don't want the plating solution in your eyes or face!
It make sense the vinegar and salt go together and become very conducive. And I assume is green because they have a little copper from the cathode and anode. I find it very mesmerizing to look at the little hydrogen bubbles. Awesome video!
This might be working 15 volts when making the solution. However, when plating a piece you can only go up to 4.5 volts. Otherwise the piece turns black.
Keeping us in suspense eh? I want to see what happens next d@mmit lol. So once you brew this up is it only good for a time? Or can you use it repeatedly?
Just to let you know, the anode is the negative and the cathode is the positive. obviously it's just a word so it doesn't make anything here different.
According to the encyclopedia Britannica "In a battery or other source of direct current the anode is the negative terminal, but in a passive load it is the positive terminal. "
It makes a difference. The negative wire attaches to the piece you want to plate. Notice the positive plate was drastically reduced the negative plate had buildup. It was burnt nickel. If he would have made the solution using 200 mah and not 1.2 amps, the nickel on both sides would be pretty. However, it would have taken a day or more to make the solution that green.

You will get a better result if the item and the solution is preheated. Even, hot. It expands the metal to allow the plating to absorb
Very helpful! What method do you use to clean the cathode and anode prior to plating?
Nice video simple and straight to the point 5 stars for you dude!!!
how long will the solution last when you start plating without doing this procedure again? Thanks
It never gets old. Only more emerald green.
Waiting for the nickel plating.. keep up the good work
cool! can a guy use a simple auto battery charger at 12v and 2A setting to do this?
The legend nickel plating a zippo

What's the thickness of the nickel plates you used?
Is it still good to use for gun slides?
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
so we can do it ourselves at home.... thanks for the explanation
Best informational video. Thank you
i bought a 30vdc bench supply on amazon still can get the green solution same mix as you are using
Works with copper as well
How about changing the anode and cathod after a while?
This is why I love this channel

Does this work for magnesium? I just tried it and have the solution but it looks clear like zinc does

The salt creates conductivity. Once the nickel is infused, it becomes conductive on its own.
Can I use sulfuric acid instead of the vinegar?
I think that is optimal.
Also, can this be used for brush plating? thanks again.
Great video, going to be doing mine today....

Thanks for sharing 👍 I Liked and Subscribed
What do you use for a power supply
Is sulphuric acid not better?
How ratio for vinegar and salt.
Thank you
good alcohol mix nickel solution and vodka
What size jar did you use on this video (how much solution did it make)
Gotta link to that type of power supply?
If hanging nickel plate in electrolyte on copper wires and the wires contact the liquid, will it ruin the nickel electrolyte?
No. The copper gets nickel plated also.
It make sense the vinegar and salt go together and become very conducive. And I assume is green because they have a little copper from the cathode and anode. I find it very mesmerizing to look at the little hydrogen bubbles. Awesome video!
Huh
Actually, copper makes the solution blue

How many times the solution can be used?
Very interesting video. Is it possible to use a car-battery-charger as a power-supply? It delivers approx. 14 - 15 volts... Best regards, Andreas
Yes it’s okay
Nickel plating everything when I do this
Can the polarity on the anode and cathode be reversed during the process without ill effects on the electrolyte you're making? Thanks
Yes
is it worth it to make when you can buy already done plating nickel bath which cost almost nothing or the same as making it by yourself?
For was quality Bright Nickel Plating Solution you will pay $30 a pint $80 a quart Ii n USA
Great video. How do you filter out the deposits? Thanks.
Anti iron solution meking process plg sir
Very Nice! AND HOW YOU DO THE GOLD?
I have some old Canadian nickels which are supposed to be .999 nickel. Could I use them as a anode?
Yes if they are solid and not plated.
which material use in anode and cathode
They are Nickel.
1000% this guys from canuckistan! :)
awesome stuff
would this recipe work if tin or palladium is used instead?
Did you ever find out? I would also like to know.
First clue was the Windsor Salt Ehhh!
Cool video
Nice video.
Good afternoon
Nice
"Alls" isn't a word. Let me guess, you're front the southern states...
NEED A SPOON!!! ( TEASPOON , TABLESPOON. ) WHICH ONE?????
Chris Griffen

Repeatedly
You should lead plate a zippo
@@ZippoFanatic77 I said lead because it's toxic lol but it would be very interesting to see a zippo made completely out of uranium 238
@@ZippoFanatic77 maybe I will try to do it at some point
If the zippo is stainless or chrome... does not work
How do nickel playting more video
My battery is 200v 100amp battery i think it can handle it lol
Yoyo
