I just wanted to thank you a million times over because I was able to hook up my radio from watching your video. This video explains everything step by step with not one unanswered question. Thank you. You saved me money. I will subscribe.
Thank god for this video. The other ones ive watched either show nothing or explain nothing. This is the only video I'm able to find that gives me the info I need and it show me what to do
GREAT INSTRUCTIVE VIDEOS! You're a Natural Instructor...Direct...To the Point...NO BS ! Our Nation's Tech Schools need People like you ! Liked/Subscribed !
Best part about your instructions was just telling us novices that the harness connects to the one from the aftermarket radio lol. I didnt want to take the leap and solder them together if that wasnt where I was sure it went. And you're very clear, good pacing and you got jokes lol "You're a wise guy huh?"
Even with the out-of-focus condition, I learned more from watching this video than I did from the first 7 or 8 I watched posted by others.... thanks a million! What I am still not quite comfortable with is mounting the new radio in the vehicle. The old radio in my '02 Odyssey has two brackets that are each secured to the sides of the radio chassis with screws, rather than sliding into a rectangular bezel. My quest for knowledge continues...
I just installed a after market stereo in a 2011 Dodge Avenger, very challenging I will say, but I found this video and it was very helpful, it was the orange wires that confused me, and as for the stupid antenna..didn't pick up an adapter, didn't realize they were different now i have to remove the radio to install it when ever it comes, thanks for the help, guys like you should be thanked more for taking the time to post these videos
Thanks a lot for putting this video together. You made the directions I have on paper much easier to understand. It's overwhelming at first when you see so many colors. I just need to do one color at a time and get all the tools together first! Thanks again!
You're amazing, I watched 5 bloody installation videos before I came to yours damn it. Five minutes into this vid I got it, it all clicked. I am the most female amateur electrician you will ever find and you made it click for me. Perfect thankyou!
Just came upon this video. Very nice. Sometimes the focus was lost because the camera kept the head unit in focus and not the foreground. But I loved the explanation for the wires and the fact that unmatched wires can be crimped up. Thank you!
Great job! Finally a no nonsense, easily understood approach to harnesses. I now have the confidence to do the job myself rather than pay big money to have it done. Cheers from down under.
great video i was stuck on my installation, coincidentally i was replacing the same radio you were working on ( the stock chevy). look forward to more videos from you.
Never mind, i just connected them as shown and it works!! The wiring on the car factory harness threw me off, but a little common sense and everythinf works. Your video sure helped me out alot. Thanx
I just wired mine myself thanks to your video. If nothing goes wrong within a week, I'll be extremely happy that I didn't pay Best Buy an extra $60 to do it. Just a little tip for anyone who gets Pioneer DEH-150MP, the purple wires on the unit's harness don't look very different. You have to look hard to see the black strip going down one of the wires. At least I had to anyway. Thanks for the video!
Neeever mind! I discovered Metra :) Anyhow, this video is extremely helpful, and soon I'll be installing a Pioneer DEH-150MP with no stress thanks to your explaining of everything.
Thanks man for this tutorial. I am buying an old Toyota Camry and the radio in it is completely shot. I will be able to do this in 1 hour over the weekend. Thanks for being so willing to share.
Thank you for making this video. I appreciate the fact you didn't rush through the installation (like showing off how fast you can install a head unit). What would be the point in a how-to video if you did that? Very down to earth with the side comments. I would have laughed my ass off if you actually answered the phone. Thank you again.
Thanks for your time and effort making videos. Greatly appreciated. When you come across it in your business, perhaps you can show what you do in a situation similar to what I faced when I bought my 92 Mercedes. The aftermarket radio and amp and subwoofer were removed, actually "ripped out" is more accurate, from the car before I got it. So in my center console is not a nice OEM or even aftermarket connector: just a dozen and a half cut wires of multitude of colors; RCA plugs leading to the trunk, and speaker wires which is unknown where they lead to. So I have no idea where to begin to figure out how to install another stereo system in my car. Perhaps when you come across a rat's nest of wires in a customer's car you can make a video which shows how you figure out which wire goes to which component.
Just followed your great video. I used the single crimp method and no stress plus it was quick and easy. Did it right at my kitchen island while watching TV. Everythingh plugged right in. Odd but there was a separate harness with 2 wires from the back of the Mountaineer(2002)in their own harness. I just discarded the harness and everything is still working. Thanks
Excellent video. I followed your instuctions exactly and had a easy and fun experience trading out a stock 2001 Toyota Tacoma stock Double Din radio for a new Pioneer. Couldn't have been easier thanks to this video.
Excellent. Just what I needed about the basic understanding of this process. Good explanations. Good lighting and sound. Video blurry for closeups, but I still understood what was going on. Thank you for doing this.
Bravo 👏. Thanks for this video! My dad and I are about to tackle this soon on his Jeep and you just saved us a headache with antennae tip. Thank you sir
I was wondering if you can show us how to tune an amp (with a digital multimeter)? I know there's a lot of other videos, but you by far explain everything to the T...much appreciated
i bought a car from this guy, took of the radio to see how the wired were connected turns out that this fool cut the original hardness and attached the new aftermarket hardness... thanks for posting this video i will do things the right way
Dude this is great, literally just taught me how to do this. I have to install a new Kenwood this weekend in my infiniti, and finally get rid of the old crappy bose receiver.
Absolutely Fantastic! You make it so simple. Thank you for your great viv, viv, viv, video! Took all the mystery out of a scary job. My hat is off to you.
Very helpful video. Thanks! I had a problem with the radio always loosing my settings ... sow what I discovered watching this video is that my constant 12V wire was connected to the accessory wire ... tkx
Great video!!! Really helpful...Just one question though. The Pioneer harness has a black ground but the Metra harness doesn't...What do I do with black ground wire??
great thank you although one question How do you connect the ground wire. It does not have a grown screw and it shows attach to a small metal hole... do you add tape
You cant use a resistor that I know of, but you can use an adjutable pulse timer relay to delay the turn on so that way the amp cuts on a second or so after the accessory circuit in the car is energized getting around the issue.
Hey Lessco, thx for all ur help, and for answering my question. However I have another one. When connecting a relay, do I connect both grounds from the radio and after market harness together and then to the relay?
By the way very good video,my problem is the chevy harness comes with 4 sets of speaker wires my 98 tahoe has 6 speakers,is there asolution using the same harness
Awesome thanks, so do I just cap off the wires I won't be using that would have been going to the other speakers then? Which size/colour crimp caps do i need? As I know you can get all different types and I'm confused. Thanks so much for your help :)
Great vid. Took all the fear i had about doing the job my self. Just so happens I have that radio in my 2001 tahoe. question, where would I hook up for my factory subwoofer

Re-installing an old Blaupunkt Nevada RDM 168 into another car. Everything works as it should with the exception there's no illumination from the face plate at all. I've wired the orange wire to a constant power supply and to the ignition hot lead with no results. Should the face plate illuminate without the orange lead connected? I bought the face plate on eBay and wonder if perhaps it's defective?
Awesome video! I have a question. I have a car who's antenna wire was cut off for some strange reason. I'm going to put in a new car stereo because the old one doesn't had never even turned on. I don't want to go through the hassle of having to change the antenna wire. Would it really matter if I don't plug in my antenna wire? I never use the radio anyways. Please help!
This is great video. I have been pulling my hairs trying to understand this. Although I am not crystal clear, it did make me understand a few things. What guage crimp caps do you use for this purpose? Now this is stupid question. If you have a external amp, is there specific color to connect it? I have 2006 Nissan Sentra with Rockford Fosgate speaker system, so apart from color codes for the speakers, what extra colors I should expect for amp and woofer? Thanks in advance.
Great video, what is the small harness for on the factory radio? I also noticed that on the factory harness there are 3 wires in the lower right side of it and not nothing in the 1858 harness. The colors on them show that they are for the rear speakers,
I have a 1998 volvo c70 that has a power antenna. The HU I just is a sony xav-601bt does the metro wiring harness I bought when all the wires are matched will tjat make mu power antenna work or will have to connect to another wire on the radio for it to work
good instructional , , your electronic theory is correct, older gm cars need a constant 12volt feed to new radio or else once you activate the interior lights and dimmer power is fed to existing dashboard harness and radio cuts out.. Also butt splic crimps make a neater job . then put a heat shrink over that ,
i use crimp caps also cuz its fast and easy plus there cheap!! i'm a audio installer myself its my hobby and something i love doing!!. i love the video.
Great demonstration that's a thumbs up from me. its much simpler than I though. I think your way is the best way anyways. Thanks for this video I enjoyed it.
I got another question. Is the car harness wires suppose to match the stereo harness colors? Because it seems that there is no black solid wire in my 2000 chevy malibu.
the video is great! Couple of questions though, on my Nissan Rogue the original wires are all the same colour so I can't understand which wire for what is. And, I decided to check my GPS radio and connected yellow and key+ wires to + of battery and black and key- to - of battery but nothing happened. Should I conclude I have gotten bad unit or I am missing something...
I have power going to my Pioneer, but no sound at all. It's for a 2005 altima that came stock with a Bose, so, the harness has RCAs. Am I splicing female RCAs for my speakers to fit the males that came with the harness?
Question: I put a alpine cde-121 in my 1995 camaro but my radio only come on if i press the power button manually, instead of it automatically coming on when I turn on my car. I wired all the colors together except the red and the yellow wire, I had to wire those together and then put all four together for my radio to work (I tried to wire just the red and the yellow to their color but it doesn't work at all) and my for everything else to function properly. Also with me manually having....
I'm wondering if you can help me. I'm setting up an after market radio and did all the wiring and plugged it in. I could hear the CD player in the radio turn on and rotate but the receiver doesn't power on or anything. There is power going to it because it will accept and eject CD's. I checked the fuses, and wiring, and it all seems fine. Any guidance would be appreciated!
I have a Pontiac Montana 2001 and would like to keep the original in its place , I bought an AM/FM MP3 player from fry's hoping I can "tap into" the original and mount the new one elsewhere, any suggestions on how to go about doing this ?, the new one only has I believe like 20 watts, so I was hoping to "boost" that using the old one, or at least use the power amp from the old one.
just recently installed my new car stereo, it was more of a plug and play than having to connect all the wires, only thing is every time i turn the engine off the whole thing resets its self. i would have to find the radio station or mp3 i was playing each time. Any pointers or do you need more details?
Great video man very clean and understandable. Question: just replaced my Kenwood with a Pioneer x720bt - in the Kenwood the antenna only came up when in radio mode but with the x720 it stays up in all modes. It is wired the same as the KW. Is there a fix or work around for this? thx in advance.
Any advice on where to connect my ignition wire in my 02 cavalier? I am installing an alpine unit. The car doesn't have a wire in the bundle for it.... Should I tap into a fuse that runs off the ignition (ie: wiper fuse)?
Also I have just purchased a 4x50w stereo and am awaiting delivery for it however I have just realised there are only 2 speakers in the car....is it still going to fit? Am a bit worried i won't be able to wire it up as there are only two leads in the car and I'm guessing it would need 4...hope this makes sense, I'm new to all this lol any help would be appreciated! Thanks
hey im glad you made this video. I just bought a kenwood stereo for my 93 dodge and this helped me a lot with knowing how the wiring works!!! Thanks for this vid, I'm going to subscribe to you for more advice just incase!!!
Great Video taught me alot. One Question though, i have a 2005 pontiac Sunfire and my Metra Wire Harness came with an external RED Ground Wire, Im so lost on what to do with this.. any advice?
I wired my new Metra Harness to the Harness which came with my new radio, and the wires match up, sans 2 orange I don't need. The car wires, have funny colors so I ignored them. The speakers do say Bose, is that an issue? It seems to work lovely, but gets really loud and I think will over drive my speakers if I'm not careful.
I just wanted to thank you a million times over because I was able to hook up my radio from watching your video. This video explains everything step by step with not one unanswered question. Thank you. You saved me money. I will subscribe.

Just came upon this video. Very nice. Sometimes the focus was lost because the camera kept the head unit in focus and not the foreground. But I loved the explanation for the wires and the fact that unmatched wires can be crimped up. Thank you!
Finally someone on UA-cam that can actually make sense of connecting the harness I was so confused until I watched this vid thanks
Great job! Finally a no nonsense, easily understood approach to harnesses. I now have the confidence to do the job myself rather than pay big money to have it done. Cheers from down under.

Thank you! The installation took little longer than expected, but for my first time, it was a success!
this is probably the most detailed and easiest instructional video to follow on here. thank you for posting. very helpfull
thank you for the thorough explanation of what each pair of wires did! I was able to track down the reason why my speakers weren't working properly.
there's nothing wrong the way you do your job you don't have to justify it your just trying to help more power to your channel i thank you

Thank you for your clear instructions. I have the harness but was not sure about the antenna adaptor. Saved me lost time.
you had the easiest video to understand and go step by with thanks really wanted to learn this
Such a courteous gentleman with the free information and all ... Many thanks
i bought a car from this guy, took of the radio to see how the wired were connected turns out that this fool cut the original hardness and attached the new aftermarket hardness... thanks for posting this video i will do things the right way

Thank you for the video.

I would like to thank you so much this video gave me all the information on how to wire up my new radio
I agree with you about the solderless connectors. They work faster, cleaner and better for stereo installation. Great video. Thank you for posting.
great thank you although one question How do you connect the ground wire. It does not have a grown screw and it shows attach to a small metal hole... do you add tape

Awesome thanks, so do I just cap off the wires I won't be using that would have been going to the other speakers then? Which size/colour crimp caps do i need? As I know you can get all different types and I'm confused. Thanks so much for your help :)
Thanks for the no nonsense Video.... got my harness schematic ready to knock this out and save a few bucks !

Most helpful understanding stereo video that I've seen
thanks yourg man, I like how professionally you put it together, and simple explaination your the best

After a 100 vids yours it's the best great job man
Hey man the caps you use is the smartest way after you connect the wires
they are 14-18 gauge size crimp caps
This is great video. I have been pulling my hairs trying to understand this. Although I am not crystal clear, it did make me understand a few things. What guage crimp caps do you use for this purpose?
Now this is stupid question. If you have a external amp, is there specific color to connect it? I have 2006 Nissan Sentra with Rockford Fosgate speaker system, so apart from color codes for the speakers, what extra colors I should expect for amp and woofer?

Thanks. You are the only one that made me understand. Great job.
I didn't know those kind of connectors existed! Thanks for the tip. Just installed my new deck with the 'butt connectors', but like yours better.
good instructional , , your electronic theory is correct, older gm cars need a constant 12volt feed to new radio or else once you activate the interior lights and dimmer power is fed to existing dashboard harness and radio cuts out.. Also butt splic crimps make a neater job . then put a heat shrink over that ,
Yes, get the harness, but a double din is too big to fit, I hope youre good with customizing to make that happen...
i use crimp caps also cuz its fast and easy plus there cheap!! i'm a audio installer myself its my hobby and something i love doing!!.
i love the video.
Thank You !!! Very Straight Foward and to the point :)
Great demonstration that's a thumbs up from me. its much simpler than I though. I think your way is the best way anyways. Thanks for this video I enjoyed it.
this guy talking is funny. it makes sense to me now. and i got a great laugh out of it too. thank you for the explaination.
Where would I connect the illumination wire from Sony XAV601bt..to a 06 Silverado? I saw you did a review on that headunit
On a 2000 chevy malibu, does the black ground wire go connected to chassis or do i just connect it to the harness?
Dude thanks very much for the instruction video, this was helpful, Keep being helpful to society.
I have power going to my Pioneer, but no sound at all. It's for a 2005 altima that came stock with a Bose, so, the harness has RCAs. Am I splicing female RCAs for my speakers to fit the males that came with the harness?
with the orange did he just cap them? didnt splice them to anything? is it getting power from another source?
Is the accessory power the one that turns the unit on after with the key? or does it turn on the amp?
Never used crimp caps before but I like the idea of it and your logic. Gonna try this go around. Thanks!
what car are you working on? the year make and model
Bless brother and very great natural explanination. Hope you have a very bless life

Great vid and the crimp caps are also my favorites twist and crush can't beat it!! Now I just wish it was this simple on my gs400 lol
Did you check you wires to make sure you connected the sound correctly?

hey im glad you made this video. I just bought a kenwood stereo for my 93 dodge and this helped me a lot with knowing how the wiring works!!! Thanks for this vid, I'm going to subscribe to you for more advice just incase!!!
Great Video taught me alot. One Question though, i have a 2005 pontiac Sunfire and my Metra Wire Harness came with an external RED Ground Wire, Im so lost on what to do with this.. any advice?
is this the same general idea for a chrystler the deck im getting does support the dimiing switch so will it still be orange?
I wired my new Metra Harness to the Harness which came with my new radio, and the wires match up, sans 2 orange I don't need. The car wires, have funny colors so I ignored them. The speakers do say Bose, is that an issue? It seems to work lovely, but gets really loud and I think will over drive my speakers if I'm not careful.
