After the half dozen audio installs I've watched, this was by far the most helpful. Many thanks!
Thanks a lot for putting this video together. You made the directions I have on paper much easier to understand. It's overwhelming at first when you see so many colors. I just need to do one color at a time and get all the tools together first! Thanks again!
I just wanted to thank you a million times over because I was able to hook up my radio from watching your video. This video explains everything step by step with not one unanswered question. Thank you. You saved me money. I will subscribe.
You're amazing, I watched 5 bloody installation videos before I came to yours damn it. Five minutes into this vid I got it, it all clicked. I am the most female amateur electrician you will ever find and you made it click for me. Perfect thankyou!
Even with the out-of-focus condition, I learned more from watching this video than I did from the first 7 or 8 I watched posted by others.... thanks a million! What I am still not quite comfortable with is mounting the new radio in the vehicle. The old radio in my '02 Odyssey has two brackets that are each secured to the sides of the radio chassis with screws, rather than sliding into a rectangular bezel. My quest for knowledge continues...
Great video. Cleared up any doubts I had about installing my new stereo
Great job! Finally a no nonsense, easily understood approach to harnesses. I now have the confidence to do the job myself rather than pay big money to have it done. Cheers from down under.
I just installed a after market stereo in a 2011 Dodge Avenger, very challenging I will say, but I found this video and it was very helpful, it was the orange wires that confused me, and as for the stupid antenna..didn't pick up an adapter, didn't realize they were different now i have to remove the radio to install it when ever it comes, thanks for the help, guys like you should be thanked more for taking the time to post these videos
Best part about your instructions was just telling us novices that the harness connects to the one from the aftermarket radio lol. I didnt want to take the leap and solder them together if that wasnt where I was sure it went. And you're very clear, good pacing and you got jokes lol "You're a wise guy huh?"
Excellent. Just what I needed about the basic understanding of this process. Good explanations. Good lighting and sound. Video blurry for closeups, but I still understood what was going on. Thank you for doing this.
Thank god for this video. The other ones ive watched either show nothing or explain nothing. This is the only video I'm able to find that gives me the info I need and it show me what to do
GREAT INSTRUCTIVE VIDEOS!
You're a Natural Instructor...Direct...To the Point...NO BS !

thanks
Just followed your great video. I used the single crimp method and no stress plus it was quick and easy. Did it right at my kitchen island while watching TV. Everythingh plugged right in. Odd but there was a separate harness with 2 wires from the back of the Mountaineer(2002)in their own harness. I just discarded the harness and everything is still working. Thanks
Just came upon this video. Very nice. Sometimes the focus was lost because the camera kept the head unit in focus and not the foreground. But I loved the explanation for the wires and the fact that unmatched wires can be crimped up. Thank you!
Thank you! The installation took little longer than expected, but for my first time, it was a success!
Never mind, i just connected them as shown and it works!! The wiring on the car factory harness threw me off, but a little common sense and everythinf works. Your video sure helped me out alot. Thanx
great video i was stuck on my installation, coincidentally i was replacing the same radio you were working on ( the stock chevy). look forward to more videos from you.
Such a courteous gentleman with the free information and all ... Many thanks
thank you for the thorough explanation of what each pair of wires did! I was able to track down the reason why my speakers weren't working properly.
Wow! Extremely helpful. I watched your video, then went out and installed my new stereo without any problems!
Bravo 👏. Thanks for this video! My dad and I are about to tackle this soon on his Jeep and you just saved us a headache with antennae tip.
Thank you sir
Excellent. Nice commentary / conversation while you are working.
This literally is the best radio wiring guide I have seen, thank you so much.
Excellent video. I followed your instuctions exactly and had a easy and fun experience trading out a stock 2001 Toyota Tacoma stock Double Din radio for a new Pioneer. Couldn't have been easier thanks to this video.
I just wired mine myself thanks to your video. If nothing goes wrong within a week, I'll be extremely happy that I didn't pay Best Buy an extra $60 to do it. Just a little tip for anyone who gets Pioneer DEH-150MP, the purple wires on the unit's harness don't look very different. You have to look hard to see the black strip going down one of the wires. At least I had to anyway. Thanks for the video!
Neeever mind! I discovered Metra :) Anyhow, this video is extremely helpful, and soon I'll be installing a Pioneer DEH-150MP with no stress thanks to your explaining of everything.
Finally someone on UA-cam that can actually make sense of connecting the harness I was so confused until I watched this vid thanks
Thanks, I like the fact you called out the colored wires and where they go!
Absolutely Fantastic! You make it so simple. Thank you for your great viv, viv, viv, video! Took all the mystery out of a scary job. My hat is off to you.
Thanks man for this tutorial. I am buying an old Toyota Camry and the radio in it is completely shot. I will be able to do this in 1 hour over the weekend. Thanks for being so willing to share.
there's nothing wrong the way you do your job you don't have to justify it your just trying to help more power to your channel i thank you
I agree with you about the solderless connectors. They work faster, cleaner and better for stereo installation. Great video. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for your clear instructions. I have the harness but was not sure about the antenna adaptor. Saved me lost time.
Thank you for explaining the orange wires and black wire. Cleared up a lot! :)
hey im glad you made this video. I just bought a kenwood stereo for my 93 dodge and this helped me a lot with knowing how the wiring works!!! Thanks for this vid, I'm going to subscribe to you for more advice just incase!!!
you had the easiest video to understand and go step by with thanks really wanted to learn this
this is probably the most detailed and easiest instructional video to follow on here. thank you for posting. very helpfull
youre a hoot and you are absolutely right about crimp caps . you turned me onto using those and they are the best thing since sliced bread. i was using solder and shrink tubes , what a pain in the ass.
Thanks for your time and effort making videos. Greatly appreciated. When you come across it in your business, perhaps you can show what you do in a situation similar to what I faced when I bought my 92 Mercedes. The aftermarket radio and amp and subwoofer were removed, actually "ripped out" is more accurate, from the car before I got it. So in my center console is not a nice OEM or even aftermarket connector: just a dozen and a half cut wires of multitude of colors; RCA plugs leading to the trunk, and speaker wires which is unknown where they lead to. So I have no idea where to begin to figure out how to install another stereo system in my car. Perhaps when you come across a rat's nest of wires in a customer's car you can make a video which shows how you figure out which wire goes to which component.
Good point bro
Most helpful understanding stereo video that I've seen
After a 100 vids yours it's the best great job man
Great video. Simple and to the point. 5-stars!!
I would like to thank you so much this video gave me all the information on how to wire up my new radio
Thanks for the no nonsense Video.... got my harness schematic ready to knock this out and save a few bucks !
Hey man, that was really informative. Thanks!
Thanks. You are the only one that made me understand. Great job.
thanks yourg man, I like how professionally you put it together, and simple explaination your the best
appreciate you taking the time , it was very helpful
Thanks, worked great on my '87 Ford F250 with a Kenmore radio from my Toyota.
Thank you for making this video. I appreciate the fact you didn't rush through the installation (like showing off how fast you can install a head unit). What would be the point in a how-to video if you did that? Very down to earth with the side comments. I would have laughed my ass off if you actually answered the phone. Thank you again.
What size crimp caps are those? I'm going to use those instead of electric tape
Thank You !!! Very Straight Foward and to the point :)
Dude this is great, literally just taught me how to do this. I have to install a new Kenwood this weekend in my infiniti, and finally get rid of the old crappy bose receiver.
These are fantastic videos . Much appreciated.
This video is great and straight to the point. Love the crimp cap comment. 👍
Axxess CHTO-01-amplifier interface harness for cars with premium audio. 2006 dodge magnum rt with Boston acoustics sound system. You seem like the guy that would help us out with a video install. Great video by the way
Clear, succinct instructions. Very helpful. Thanks
Bless brother and very great natural explanination. Hope you have a very bless life
Thanks for this tutorial! installing my own aftermarket stereo on my 2004 ford explorer.
i bought a car from this guy, took of the radio to see how the wired were connected turns out that this fool cut the original hardness and attached the new aftermarket hardness... thanks for posting this video i will do things the right way
Lol I like this channel this guy talk's you straight up if you don't like it then leave !
good instructional , , your electronic theory is correct, older gm cars need a constant 12volt feed to new radio or else once you activate the interior lights and dimmer power is fed to existing dashboard harness and radio cuts out.. Also butt splic crimps make a neater job . then put a heat shrink over that ,
Thank you so much man, did use those crimp caps. It looked beautiful Thankyou once again!
Dude thanks very much for the instruction video, this was helpful, Keep being helpful to society.
Awesome video! Huge help, thanks!!!
Awesome videos! Thanks for info. You saved me so loot at the custom shop
hey, i dont know if youve answered this but i thought id give it a shot. Im wiring up my aftermarket head unit to my aftermarket harness for my car and i noticed that i have an orange wire for the illumination on the car harness but nothing for illumination on the head unit harness. my head unit does provide a dim switch feature as ive read in the manual but i cant see what wire is used for that in the wiring diagram. what should i do with the orange wire? is there anything i CAN do to make it work?
@8:17 my favorite part LOL. thanks for taking the time to share!
really good self explanatory video! awesome job
Great video, what is the small harness for on the factory radio? I also noticed that on the factory harness there are 3 wires in the lower right side of it and not nothing in the 1858 harness. The colors on them show that they are for the rear speakers,
nice lessco i really appreciate ur videos bro..
im actually repairing myself for MECP TEST mobile electronics..
learn from ur installations!!!!!!!!!!!
hey! great video, very helpful but i have a little question, my metra wiring harness doesnt have the black wire ( chassis ground) but my aftermarket radio has one so i dont know what do i have to do?? on the instructions it says that when the black wire is not present, ground radio to vehicle chassis. what does it means?
I was wondering if you can show us how to tune an amp (with a digital multimeter)? I know there's a lot of other videos, but you by far explain everything to the T...much appreciated
Great Video taught me alot. One Question though, i have a 2005 pontiac Sunfire and my Metra Wire Harness came with an external RED Ground Wire, Im so lost on what to do with this.. any advice?
This was a big help. Thanks!
Hey thank you for this video which helps a lot. I have a question tho, the 2002 gmc envoy harness adapters is made up of two connectors and I am trying to install a Pioneer FH-X720BT wich has only one connector. I get to just match the colors but the is like 10 extra wires.... does the fact that my car has onstar mean something? I dont use onstar. So should i just leave the extra wires alone or how do i attach them to the car connector? Thanks in advance
Thanks that was a great video very helpful.
Never used crimp caps before but I like the idea of it and your logic. Gonna try this go around. Thanks!
Great video man very clean and understandable. Question: just replaced my Kenwood with a Pioneer x720bt - in the Kenwood the antenna only came up when in radio mode but with the x720 it stays up in all modes. It is wired the same as the KW. Is there a fix or work around for this? thx in advance.
Thank you for this accurate video much appreciate it i am changing out a OEM stereo from a 2011 Chevy Malibu this weekend if i have any questions i will let you know thanks again very informative.
great thank you although one question How do you connect the ground wire. It does not have a grown screw and it shows attach to a small metal hole... do you add tape
I didn't know those kind of connectors existed! Thanks for the tip. Just installed my new deck with the 'butt connectors', but like yours better.
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.
Great demonstration that's a thumbs up from me. its much simpler than I though. I think your way is the best way anyways. Thanks for this video I enjoyed it.
Great vid and the crimp caps are also my favorites twist and crush can't beat it!! Now I just wish it was this simple on my gs400 lol
Hey Lessco, thx for all ur help, and for answering my question. However I have another one. When connecting a relay, do I connect both grounds from the radio and after market harness together and then to the relay?
Very helpful video. Thanks! I had a problem with the radio always loosing my settings ... sow what I discovered watching this video is that my constant 12V wire was connected to the accessory wire ... tkx
Thank you so much this really helped me out and saved me a lot of money.
Nicely done. Thanks for shout us how to do it.
Awesome
This video answered all my questions. I'm no longer ignorant
very good video great explanation!
Soldering + heat shrink tubing is the neatest method in my opinion. Butt connectors can pull apart over time but it would be my second option.
Strip and twist + electrical tape is a sloppy no no....
If you have a shop I can see using caps because you need to get the job out the door. But if you are a DIY doing this at home the best way is take your time and solder and shrink tube the harness. It give you the best job and you don't have all those caps getting in the way when you finally get around putting the stereo in the vehicle. And yes do not use electrical tape, to test your setup ok but using electrical tape in the final install no. Shows you don't really know what you are doing. Caps or solder is always the best way to do electrical wiring.
thanks for the info and great video. It saved me money and very helpful.
i use crimp caps also cuz its fast and easy plus there cheap!! i'm a audio installer myself its my hobby and something i love doing!!.
i love the video.
Great video!!! Really helpful...Just one question though. The Pioneer harness has a black ground but the Metra harness doesn't...What do I do with black ground wire??
this guy talking is funny. it makes sense to me now. and i got a great laugh out of it too. thank you for the explaination.
Thank you, that was very helpful.
Seems simple enough, BUT! i'm having a hell of a time with my DIY install. first off I have a 10 speaker audio system (04 BMW Z4 W/O NAV) and I was going to buy a harness from Crutchfield but they said it only supplies power and ground. what kinda harness do I need then? I cant seem to find one that will work with my Sony MEX-BT3100P to factory speakers and amp. HELP!!
Nice video, very helpful. Have you experience a loud pop when changing channels after installing a new stereo?
great job man, thanks for explaining it!
